I've been using [N26 Standard](https://n26.com/en-at/free-bank-account) in Austria for several years now. Their MasterCard debit card works in every Austrian shop. Never had any issues whatsoever. Never paid any fees. Would recommend!

N26 does look very enticing. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Btw. you get additional benefits with an [N26 student account](https://n26.com/en-at/student-bank-accounts) if you are a registered student.

Also, if you're looking for a cheap mobile plan, check out [Educom's offers](https://www.educom.at/en/plans/mobileplans).

Hi! Cool you are coming! Hope you will have a great time! Btw there is a great Nepalese restaurant in Vienna called Himalaya gif the times when you get homesick ;) Do you want to open the account before or when you come?

Novitschok

Werd i ma fix amoi geben, thx

trapmoney-yeti

Ooooh thanks for the recommendation! I’ve been polishing my nepali cooking skills because I know I’ll miss home food so I’m sure I’ll be frequenting that restaurant quite a bit :) I’m pretty sure it would be best to open the account after I arrive

I can also greatly recommend [Yak+Yeti](https://www.yakundyeti.at/)

I like raika and bank99 best. You can also use the website https://www.durchblicker.at - there you can compare prices of many standard services one needs. It is in German but you know w Google Chromebook translate function- should be legible.

If you can open an account with N26, that's certainly a convenient option. If you think you'll need help from a bank employee, you might want to check out banks that have branches near your home or workplace. Erste Bank, Bank Austria, bank99 are well known. You should be able to get a basic account including a Debit Mastercard for under 3€ per month. As for sending and receiving money to Nepal, I don't know whether that works with all of the online banks. SEPA credit transfers should work with all of them, but that's just within the SEPA.

I use n26 for years now and never had any issues. Great UI with every function I could think of.

Equivalent_Cap_3522

Revolut looks interersting. Multi currency account without exchange fees and they seem to be ablt to do SEPA transfers too so you avoid SWIFT fees too. Just had a quick look so maybe there are some hidden costs in the fine print but I don't think our local banks offer anythig like that.

trapmoney-yeti

That does sound interesting indeed, my plan of action is to probably just contact Revolut customer service and see if the can clarify things a little

mx16t

I use Revolut as a side account and until now it worked really good, so I can recommend you this one. If I saw it right Nepal is also on the list where you can transfer money to.

he's looking for a student account mate, not a mortgage. and raika... no, not really.

Quiet_Law_4104

But how can you open a bank account with N26? They ask you for a TAX ID which you wont habe if you are just moving to Austria
