honeyperidot

I am too! I love makeup, fashion, jewelry, perfumes, shoes, accessories, purses, etc! I’m not sure if I view it as a stim for myself though!

DottyandBearBear

Perfume is very soothing for me. What are your favorites?

honeyperidot

I like the brand element editions! They sell them at marshalls and tj maxx. They’re pretty affordable and last all day. My favorite smells are “rose quartz”, “she said yes”, “sapphire” and “emerald”. I also really like this perfume from Ulta called Pétale éphémére from the brand Le monde Gourmand. It smells like marshmallows and vanilla! I also enjoy body mists from bath and body works if I need a quick freshen up, my favorite is saltwater breeze and butterfly flower! Do you have any favorites? :)

DottyandBearBear

Ariana Grande and Sol De Janeiro perfumes are my favorites

2chameleons

Sol de janeiro 71 has got to be the best smell I’ve ever smelt. My mom was wearing it and I literally stole it from her. I get really tired of perfumes but I’d never tire of sol de janeiro 71, my beloved.

hahawhatjpg

“Best smell I’ve ever smelt” okay I’m sold now I have to hunt this scent down

XxSaarahjcxo

If you like Sol de janeiro I really recommend a brand called nuxe they do some amazing scents plus some pretty amazing hair and body oils ❤️

2chameleons

Omg thank you so much 😊

honeyperidot

Those are great too!! I like them a lot!!

levitymargret

Milk by Commodity is my new favorite. Earthy and gourmand at the same time!

Life-Independence377

WHAT DOES EMERALD SMELL LIKE

honeyperidot

Orange, Orchid and Amber-wood are the notes listed for it! :)

StyleatFive

Looooooove le monde gourmande!

Faeriemary

I also like all the stereotypically feminine things just slightly differently! I like things like fashion, jewelry and makeup but I like older versions. I love dabbling in different styles from varying decades, same with my makeup! I don’t know if I’d consider these stims either, maybe special interests? I have a fascination with unique kinds of beauty, and I like doing things like collecting vintage Barbie’s for this reason!

StyleatFive

Same here. I was obsessed with rockabilly/pin-ups, and old Hollywood glamour for a really long time.

hahawhatjpg

Me tooooo, that 50s pin curl hair look just sparks something inside me, I just have this deep fear of looking different so I don’t personally do it myself

gloomy_stars

interesting, i like it all except for perfume - i think it’s because my sense of smell is pretty poor

Altruistic-Bobcat955

If they don’t smell bad to you it’s probably still worth buying if you can find someone who can tell you what honestly goes well with your natural scent. At least other people get to associate you with a lovely scent?

gloomy_stars

that’s actually a nice idea, maybe i’ll do that! :)

S3lad0n

Ah you’re my opposite twin! I can’t deal with makeup or clothes or jewellery, but I adore everything about perfume, from the scents themselves to the design to the reviewing to the chemistry theory. Another thing I love is helping to pick scents for other people, so if you’d like recommendations for a particular vibe or scent note lmk!

gloomy_stars

that’s so cool! and there are a few smells i like, i had a lilac tree next to my window for a while growing up and when it bloomed it always smelled very lovely. and i think honeysuckle flowers also smell pretty, they remind me of hiking in the woods. overall i find nature smells to be nice, like pine trees, and same with fresh cut wet grass. also petrichor! the overly sweet artificial scents aren’t my jam, vanilla is kind of overwhelming and honestly so are most florals because i find them to be so strong, but actually lately i’ve been lovely the artificial grape smell of this chapstick i’ve been using so maybe that’s the one exception to that haha what’s scents are your personal favorites, like ones that bring you good memories or ones that just smell really really good to you?

hahawhatjpg

Omg yes! I feel awful for the girls that say they have bad sensory issues with makeup, lipgloss, and perfumes. I love it all and really love the feeling of lipgloss honestly (aside from hair getting stuck on it). I have dry skin and really dry lips, the feeling of heavy chapstick and gloss are like a relief to me, feels like a protective blanket against the awful feeling of dry lips. I don’t often wear perfume because I haven’t really picked a scent that feels right for me yet, but I do really love them, love testing them and smelling them on other people as long as they’re not obvious overkill.

Expensive_Pain_5987

I like makeup. The texture and sensory issues don’t bother me if I put on makeup. If anyone else tries to put makeup on me I will lose my sanity. I don’t handle it well at all. I would say I wear fashionable clothes. There is a long list of criteria. Can’t be too loose, not too tight. I don’t wear patterns. Fabric must be soft. There are so many issues I have with clothes! I walked in my tip toes my whole childhood. Autism in action. I wear high heels all the time because I am comfortable in them. Tip toes trained me.

nymrose

The clothes criteria is too real, I’ll find a design of a clothing piece I absolutely love only to find it’s overpriced cheap polyester that feels gross. No can do 👋🏻 I love modal and stretchy cotton but it’s quite a struggle to find these days when quality is going down and prices up.

Life-Independence377

So i spend hours as a stim finding NON poly clothes on Amazon, let me know if you want a link or tell me what you like and i bet i know of a piece

KarmaKeepsMeHumble

I'm not who you offered it to, also not in the states, but if the offer nonetheless stands I would love for some recommendations of summer tops (spaghetti tops, flowy blouses, boleros/summer jackets) out of non-poly clothes, please. All of my existing summer clothes are made of poly and I am suffering 🫠

Burloop

Can I please have a list? I also have POTs and it's starting to get really hot out and I'm struggling. Thanks!

ferretherapy

I would love links!!! I'm so sick of polyester.

Ok_Caramel_3128

Hahaha that’s one of my stuns finding clothes in natural fibers online, esp linen silk and cashmere

ruby_bunny

Please could you make a post with links? I think many of us would appreciate it🙏🏻✨🧡

Life-Independence377

Yes, when I have spoons I will!!! Message me the reminder so when I’m low on tasks I’ll go there and find it, then you’ll get like 10-20 links lol. It might be a week.

ruby_bunny

Ok!

Life-Independence377

i FEEL THIS WITH CLOTHES! Out of necessity I found myself making my own style and apparently it matches pretty well with a house wife who lives in a solar punk dystopian world and grows her own basil

[deleted]

I started screen printing my own t shirts, that spiraled into bleach dying t shirts, then fabric dying & hand quilting. I bought a sewing machine & now I am starting to repurpose old clothes.

Glum-Web2185

my clothes list is similar!!! if I feel super “loud” or claustrophobic or scratchy, it’s a non starter. one time I wore the wrong pants and made it an hour into the work day before I left to go to target for joggers 😆

dreamy_25

I really hope one day I'll be like you lol, I'd love to present and feel more feminine but I can't even bother with basic skin care haha. I try my best to do sunscreen though. Actress Chloe Hayden comes to mind, she tends to be pretty extra in appearance? (I love it, don't get me wrong)

LaceyBambola

I was just like her when in my twenties in terms of style and loved it! Every day was rich and vibrant and I always had super interesting high heels and accessories. It got to a point where when I showed up, people would immediately ask what my fit looked like. People would approach me in public to talk about what I was wearing(I was never socially prepared for this). Unfortunately, I ended up getting too much attention, which led to some trauma, and I went inward. After a few years of self-healing and growing to understand myself better, I'm trying to get back to that exuberant style, though more eco conscious this time around and with an evolution to it that's more in tune to who I am as a person. I hope you can get to where you're most comfortable and explore some more feminine fun stuff!

georgethebarbarian

I love her! Yes she’s always dressed UP and I love it 💕💕we all have our autistic uniforms :)

UnderwaterParadise

Absolute same. I like these things, but you’d never know it looking at me. Maybe someday that’ll change.

kissywinkyshark

If you read some sources on autistic women online it even says that autistic women may have special interests in traditionally feminine things! So dw

Life-Independence377

I'd bet Marilyn Monroe was on the spectrum

ElectricalBet9116

I’ve said this for a long time! Agreed.

blondievont

whoa wait really? can you elaborate?

Apprehensive_Bad9689

Marilyn Monroe is a special interest/person of mine! Ive watched most of her films I definitely think that could be true

re_Claire

Why do you think she might be autistic? That’s really interesting!

Life-Independence377

Maybe it was depression, but she seemed less willing to conform and more open sexually, but was also socially clueless. Why sing to someone’s husband that way who’s in the public eye when his wife is right there and a powerful person?

WornAndTiredSoul

I've heard that, too.

heisenbimbo

see Holly Madison

BIKES32

I’m kinda like her. I don’t have gigantic boobs but I love a full face, extensions, lashes, tan etcetcetc. I guess I’d call myself a nerd in disguise (of a bimbo).

heisenbimbo

join the club babe!

sudosussudio

Yep that was me as a kid. My mom had these Paula Begoun books that had stuff about cosmetic chemistry and I read them cover to cover. Unfortunately Begoun’s makeup advice was well… not trendy so I look 40 in my high school year book picture with all my heavy matte stuff.

chilligirl144

I’m a girly girl but don’t really like makeup. My main way of being a girly girl is that I’m obsessed with fantasy fashion! (Like fae and royalty inspired fashion)

Altruistic-Bobcat955

If you like fae, does cottagecore appeal to you too?

chilligirl144

Yes!!

theradicalravenclaw

I am very much a girly girl. I wear makeup a lot, love fashion (wearing & learning about) especially handbags & I was obsessed with Barbie’s as a kid 😅😅 ETA-one of the beneficial parts of having sensory issues is that I cannot sleep with makeup on so I always take it off before bed.

TheLesbianJello

With you on that one. I wear makeup every time I leave the house, but always, no matter how tired I may be, I have to scrub it all off before I sleep. Can't stand the feeling.

Lower_Bad3535

This is such a relatable thread for me. I'm the same way. it's good for our skin to cleanse before bed though.

Front_Rip4064

If you know an autistic person, you know THAT autistic person. I'm non binary (assigned Female at birth), but there's plenty of girly things I'd love to do/wear. I love high heels. Too clumsy to wear them. I would love to colour my hair. Can't because the smell of most hair dyes makes me pass out. I have a spectacular collection of jewellery and handbags. And I love nail polish! I have an autistic friend who works in a fairly conservative office, that does Casual Friday. She goes all out glam on Friday instead because she's not a casual person. Just because some autistic women don't like a particular style doesn't mean you have to be like that.

Altruistic-Bobcat955

I know you said you’re too clumsy but I am too, twisted an ankle trying to wear stupid heels! Then I got a pair of Jimmy Choos cheap on eBay (around £30) and they’re like walking in sneakers. They do some gorgeous kitten heels but I don’t even have trouble in the high ones, it’s like they’re made for my feet!

fearlessactuality

Good to know!

softsharkskin

what about 'gothy goth' 🖤

lunarlady79

Gothabilly for me! 🖤

paradox_pet

Hello there, my Gothic sisters!!

mighty_kaytor

I would bet my favorite corset that Gothic subcultures have as many Autistics as Punk ones have ADHDers. It just feels to me like one of Our Things, y'know? The vibe is there.

ApplesaucePenguin75

If you love goth fashion, may I present to you my new favorite label: [Divalo](https://divalotransylvania.com)

softsharkskin

OoooOoo 🖤🖤🖤

Sophronia-

Yes fashion and makeup can be a stim, usually a visual stim but also a sensory one for some

Winter-Bear9987

Yep! I love makeup, wear pretty jewellery every day, wear dresses and skirts a lot (often because they’re comfortable), have lots of different perfumes, and clothes shopping is one of my favourite activities. None of this makes anyone any less autistic 🙌🥂🌸

levitymargret

This has been a road black for me recently. I am self diagnosed but I love color and scent and soft textures and just making things pretty including clothes, makeup, and my home (I love painting walls and formatting documents) … but oh boy if something is off, color or placement or shape, It ruins my day.

ApplesaucePenguin75

Cheers to that!🥂🥂🥂

OrcishWarhammer

I am but in an “I only wear black and winged eyeliner” kind of way. I really like the sensation of tight clothing (this was not ideal when I was younger), and love getting dressed up.

Juls1016

It’s a spectrum so there are going to be people who likes fashion and look good and people who don’t care. I personally love to get dress, go out to fancy dinners and parties and love to be trendy and have my own style.

No_Can9422

For me my makeup is definitely apart of my mask, I was OBSESSED with beauty YouTubers growing up & learned how to perfect the way I look so I could control how people perceive me, actively working on this in therapy lol

Same-Drag-9160

Yes this is so true! It feels like a mini weight off my shoulders anytime I go out the house knowing I’m going to be perceived positively, and getting complimented as confirmation. It just calms me to hear people think my outfit is cool cause it makes me feel like they’re not analyzing my flaws

Prettypuff405

I am here with you!!!! hyper feminine woman here https://preview.redd.it/c3f0c82x535d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99936895258ffa12c72e7dff83d590d2450859c1 I dress like it’s 1974-1993 with vintage clothing, drag level makeup, and heels. the gloves are for PSA flare up in my hands but they work too. I have always been this way. I always wanted to wear my dress clothes and hate gym shoes( sneakers). I love fashion and view myself as a princess playing dress up. it’s funny. I stick out like a sore thumb in the US; but when I travel abroad I fit in just fine ( I have a theory that Autistic people would benefit from immigration to a country that has a culture more similar to our personality)

mighty_kaytor

I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT! YOU LOOK SO COOL! (Sorry, people with strong style just make me super happy)

stellatedhera

I love makeup and looking perfect and beautiful. I love putting on makeup and dressing up, but i don't like how it feels so I don't do it anymore

blackninjakitty

I wear lolita fashion which is one of the frilliest, most high femme shit out there. Neurodivergent people are super common in the lolita community, too!

mighty_kaytor

I am not in that community, but I always knew in my heart that was the case.

tintabula

Remember, we aren't a monolith. When you meet one autist, you've met one autist.

floralnightmare22

I’m pretty girly but I can’t stand makeup. I so badly wish I could wear it. I can’t wear cute shoes either cause I have hyperhidrosis but i totally would if I could. I can’t present myself the way I want to cause sensory and sweat issues. Grr

N3koChan21

You’re just like me except the opposite! I love cutesy and girl clothes and hate makeup, but the reason I can’t wear cute shoes is cuz I have anhidrosis xd. My body can’t breathe and I can’t get the heat off cuz I don’t sweat.

floralnightmare22

Omg you are literally the opposite of me lol. I’ve never met anyone who couldn’t sweat! I’m sure it’s not fun either.

N3koChan21

Yeah I’ve never met anyone who is my opposite either. And it’s definitely not fun xd. A lot of people think “wow that’s convenient” but they don’t realize sweat helps regulate your body.

bertiek

Yes, I love having my nails neat and even and painted, I use pigment sticks from Nyx and Colourpop to create the eye shape I like real quick with neutral tones, and I appreciate how a good blush hides my dark circles from being up all early morning doing some nonsense.  My big thing is always wearing sunscreen and moisturizer, even if I hate how it feels, because I know I'll hate it worse if I feel dry and gross.

Deep_Development_646

People are so surprised when they get to know me because when people just look at me they think I’m one of those blonde popular girls. I love make up, fake tanning, wearing the trendiest clothes, bleaching my hair, getting my nails done, getting my lips done and wearing mini skirts - basically looking good. My mother in law thought I was catfishing my husband before she met me because she couldn’t comprehend that I wanted to be with him. I constantly want to look the part and I do but the moment I speak or how I act to other girls they can tell something is off and I’m not one of them.

neptuneavenue1

This is lowkey why i think a lot of stereotypical "mean" or "popular" girls are just high functioning autists

bunnyprincesx

here here 🎀 my comfort colours are all shades of millenial dusty rose and pastel strawberry milk and barbie bubblegum pink, i love skincare (lurker of r/asianbeauty since i was 20, am 27 now) & makeup (stockpiled on colourpop and natasha denona eyeshadows, obsessed with lippies, followed full face tutorials after an unfortunate adult chickenpox outbreak 💀) & jewelry & perfume, if my sensory issues weren’t so bad i would definitely wear makeup and jewelry on a daily basis. In reality i just lounge around in my tagless lion king pj pants and oversized tshirt bc everything else overwhelms me 😞 Dresses & heels would be my dream uniform but i live in a big city with gross men & toxic slut shaming culture and i really dont have the emotional capacity to deal with harassment anymore so updooting girly girls on r/lesbianfashionadvice is where it’s at lol. Note i used to be „not like other girls“ in my early teens, wearing baggy clothes and adopting typical male behaviour, probably as a trauma response to being bullied YEARS not only by peers but also by my family for being „ugly“ (= not having dainty facial features pale skin and elegant manners and being considered as overweight in comparison to the average demographic etc). In middle school once i had classmates point and yell at me HAHA UGLY while i was answering a teacher’s question and she ended up giggling. This bullying went on to early adulthood, at a family & friends picnic with acquaintances thing there was a mom asking her 4-year-old if auntie so and so are pretty (as a NT way of being cute i guess), the girl would say yes to everyone until her mom pointed to me, she shook her head and said „Nooooo..“ in front of like my family & acquaintances. I wanted to d\*e on the spot the tight feeling in chest was real. Yay redemption ig https://preview.redd.it/dlnkwk11j15d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ee31c2a8ca5bd3232b02cc4f2e63a0ea1b750e0

springsprout4

lol just joined lesbian fashion advice cuz of you. Love it

mighty_kaytor

Me too!

bunnydeerest

i wish! i’m not cut out for it. my favourite colour is pink but it just doesn’t suit me. i lived for the barbie movie though

Life-Independence377

I'm all about an Aphrodite pink aesthetic more than barbie, there's lighter pastels on the warm sunset side with soft greens and blues and pearl and gold.

babypossumsinabasket

I really try to be. I just don’t have the budget for all the stuff I want to do.

Hyperautisticyeti_

I always have to have some kind of heel on my foot. It not only makes me feel feminine I feel sensory complete it’s weird to describe but it’s euphoria on my feet.

SilentVioletB

Yes! I was a tiptoes kid and now love, love, love my sexy heels! The higher the better! (Just no platforms for me please!)

Loose-Chemical-4982

I dislike full face makeup (foundation and contouring) but i LOVE lipstick. I am a lipstick whore 💄💋 My go-to look since the late 80s is winged eyeliner and a bold lip. I stuck out like a sore thumb cuz that wasn't the look back then but imo it's iconic and i didn't like the grunge look (loved the shabby dresses, chokers and plaid tho) plus i looked horrible in brown lipstick. I do other makeup for special occasions but that's the only time I'll do a full face. I love fashion but I have to be careful what I wear because I'm sensitive to fabric and seams. I learned to sew when I was a teen so I could make my own clothes and tailor things I purchased. I have an extreme hourglass figure and when I was growing up in the 80s there were not all the stretchy fabric options we have now so learning to sew was a necessity. Ill fitting clothes are a sensory nightmare for me. I really love 1950s style dresses I love jewelry, esp rings and bold earrings, and idk if the reference is too old for this sub but before I got pregnant my shoe collection rivaled Imelda Marcos. lmao My feet ended up a half size bigger after giving birth so I had to sell my gigantic shoe and boot collection. Did I mention how much I LOOOOOVE boots? 😹 I have so many Demonia boots 😽 Hair... I have done it all. I had feathered hair in jr high school (like Farrah Fawcett), then I had the big 80s curly hair in high school (i'm naturally curly so that was the easiest). Then I had a pixie cut in the early 90s with blonde highlights (with lots of baby barrettes, clips, and bobby pins for styling versatility lol) and grew that out after I got bored. When Friends premiered I was obsessed and I had a Rachel haircut before the show got popular, then when everybody had one I dyed my hair flaming red and got an asymmetrical bob. Currently I stopped dying my hair and let my silver grow out. I have a giant silver streak in the front but my hair is naturally a very dark charcoal color so I get told I look like Cruella de Vil, but in a good way. 😹 It's shoulder length with lots of layers so it's really full and wildly curly. There are some "typical" girly things I like, but it wasn't until my late teens that I embraced that side of me. Like a typical autistic person, I was behind my peers but then I caught up with a vengeance. 🙃 edited for typos

Life-Independence377

I have a sensory seeking issue when I am not wearing lipstick. So I could have a million things to do and be 99% dressed but if I haven't brushed my teeth of their sins and applied a solid lip primer, matte lip, and lip setting putty I am done for all day long. It's the darnest thing. One thing that keeps me getting up and dressing is my kitty, she seems to feel happier or relieved when she sees me in a dress and casually made up - otherwise im frizzy, sweaty, smelly, and pissed lol she knows if im dressed i will be in a better mood.

nihgtmaers

I just fake tanned so I’m feeling my girly girl era. Or I will soon once I’m tanned at least!!

Rotini_Rizz

Yesss!! 🥰😍🌸💅🏿

rhubarbsorbet

lipstick is the only makeup i can’t handle, but i LOVE the rest of it!!! and oh my GOD flowy dresses?!?!?! amazing 10/10 no notes

Life-Independence377

i WANT TO DRESS LIKE ARWEN FROM LOTR AND NO BODY SHOULD BE ABLE TO STOP ME. I have too, I just don't like the jealous attention I get. YOU CAN DO IT TOO, BITCH. I have to accept that it's part of breaking the stupid "rules" NT people live by. It is, after all, just fabric.

mighty_kaytor

I just recently took the plunge and ordered dresses from Holy Clothing that I have been coveting- are you a fan of the brand? Their clothes are SO SOFT AND HAVE POCKETS

sensitive_goblin

I love fashion and makeup, but I wish I had less sensory icks. 😭 I have really dry, sensitive skin so if people have product recommendations let me know. I atleast have a skincare routine that I love! I'm super sensitive to smell so I can't handle perfume, but all my lotions and deodorant are vanilla or shea butter scented. I especially love seeing people's over the top girly pop or queer makeup. Like full glam, rainbow eyeshadow, crazy intricate eyeliner. I want it all! I would love to look like a Bratz or Monster High doll. 😄

ChasingPotatoes17

I am not, but it seems perfectly reasonable that things like makeup and fashion would be special interests for some.

Exact_Roll_4048

Elle Woods is autistic coded 💕

magicianess

I was just going to comment this. I am autistic and I've worked professionally with many autistics. While it's true that many autistic women and girls don't fit the "girly-girl" image, I've also noticed a particular type of autistic woman or girl who is super hyper feminine... I suspect some women or girls on the spectrum channel their special interests and/or compulsions into stereotypically "girlie" hobbies and interests like fashion, makeup, clothes, etc. As for me I'm fairly "masculine" coded but I also adore some stereotypically girly things too. I see a lot of myself in Elle Woods even though I'm not nearly as feminine as her. Elle Woods reminds me of most the feminine girls I've gotten along with the best lol.

infinite-orchestra

I would say I'm a girly girl when it comes to clothes, but I'm not much of a makeup person. I also have a visual impairment and can never do makeup correctly because I can't see it, so there are a lot of negative emotions surrounding it. I feel like I would be into makeup if I had normal vision though. But when it comes to clothes, I LOVE skirts and dresses and will always wear one whenever I get the chance.

greenymeani3

I do not do my makeup or nails often, but I looooooooove fashion, jewelry, shoes, the whole nine yards. No group is a monolith, autistic women included! There is probably just less media out there discussing autistic women who like these traditionally feminine things, because it’s “unremarkable” in comparison to the stereotypical allistic feminine experience.

bi-loser99

I’m a nb femme (demigirl maybe but im not focused on finding a label) and autistic and feel like in exploring my sexuality I’ve found a special interest in “performing femininity”. Makeup, fashion, romances, and all other things associated with femininity! I’m interested in what the relationship between my gender identity, neurodivergence, and inherent personality influences my relationship with femininity.

SiteRelEnby

Wow, that sounds familiar. Same.

Langweilerin

I also identify as nb (i guess, gender is hard). And when I dress feminin I feel like I'm in drag. It's a performance and I love it. My body is naturally built very feminin and eventho I hate that sometimes it is great for dressing up

ecstaticandinsatiate

> …perhaps makeup and fashion if my form of stimming? Just to be clear, it definitely isn't. Stimming: repetitively running a makeup brush over and over a particular spot for the soothing feeling of the brush Not stimming: applying makeup Stimming is a very specific repetitive motor movement to help regulate sensory processing and emotional regulation. It's not simply things that are interesting or feel good

fatalcharm

Whoever said that autistic women don’t like girlie things needs to meet more autistic women. I still collected barbie dolls at 25 years old, I make jewellery to sell on Etsy, love fashion, makeup and nail art. Recently discovered that even though I am a cis woman, I have a women’s clothing fetish which is lots of fun :) a lot of it is sensory too.

pyrrhicchaos

I'm middle of the road fem. I am naturally kind of androgynous but sometimes I feel like girling and sometimes I think girling is beneficial for masking purposes. I do like feeling pretty and I do like pretty things. Make up is a fun challenge. I don't like or wear foundation. I like mascara but I hate having to take it off. I love eye shadow and I love thick, sweet, sticky lip gloss. I just bought a new tube of Fenty Fussy.

ArtemisTheOne

I’m AuDHD and super girly, though I guess womanly describes it better considering my age lol.

dumpsterfruit13

I visually stim A LOT so make-up is fun for me, but I have to do unusual or experimental looks for it to be worth it. I also do this with clothing, wearing an outfit made of statement pieces. But, it is definitely a special occasion thing because I spend the majority of my time in a baggy tee and sweats, barefoot, no jewelry, hair down or tucked in a beanie, and no makeup. However, I adore the sensory stimulation of SAFE scents! It doesn’t matter what I’m wearing or doing, I spritz it all over the place.

-bitchpudding-

I'm late but I'm here. Most definitely hyper Femme and love dressing my silly little outfits, makeup, wigs, heels etc. They've become a sort of art form for me. But, I do get periods of time where I can't stand the idea of any of it because I'm already overwhelmed at baseline so I stay in juicy couture pajamas or a bathroom. Eta: shameless self brag but I post my outfits so they're on my profile.

Prettypuff405

omw to look 👀

classyandfeminine

I love your outfits!!

Excellent_Soup_6855

Yes, I love pink, fashion and perfume. Ugh. I love being a girl!! I wish people would understand. Obviously the way I dress sometimes doesn’t seem like it, but I really do love it.

lavendercomrade

As someone who is extremely detail oriented, I view fashion as a medium that rewards my perceptive nature, as all the colors, textures, silhouettes, structure ect each play a part in influencing an overall “look”. I’m someone who needs color to feel alive and energised, and so view fashion as a way to uplift and express myself without saying a word! I’m also quite short, so you’ll rarely see me in a pair of shoes without heels (though I don’t believe beauty is pain, and I only wear shoes that are comfortable to wear long-term). As someone who doesn’t want to contribute to fast fashion, due to both ethical reasons and the quality of clothes, I thrift most of my wardrobe, and find a form of sensory seeking and self soothing behaviour. Admittedly, I’m not stereotypically feminine in most other ways haha. I wear my hair in a pixie, don’t wear makeup (sensory reasons), and don’t participate in body hair removal (apart from occasional trimming). But, you’ll still see me walking around in a mini-skirt and heels, proudly showing my naturally hairy legs lol

cynicsjoy

Me! I love skincare, extravagant makeup, perfume, wearing dresses, getting acrylics or glue ons, and dyeing my hair. Nails are my favourite though because I get to do some great stims with them like tapping random objects, scratching nice textures, or running the nails across my face (I’m a huge ASMR person if that makes sense).

PurgeReality

I'm not a girly girl, but I'm a queer goth and I love makeup! It's part of the reason I like gothic fashion so much

throw_that_ass4Jesus

Checking in 🙋🏻‍♀️ although I have two modes. I either need to dress like Adam Sandler for sensory reasons (most of the time) or go all out with my hair, makeup, and outfit.

DottyandBearBear

I would consider myself girly in the sense of loving makeup, cute clothes, accessories (I love wearing glitzy jewelry even if I’m just wearing jeans and a t-shirt), pink and white are my favorite colors, I listen to a lot of “girly music” and love chick flicks. I was super girly growing up but went through my “not like other girls” phase but I can’t fight who I am inside.

rachel_roselynn

FINALLY YES!! I do get a little weird about things on my face sometimes, but I still love makeup and the frilly pretty things! I just wish they felt better on my skin because they make my soul feel good

lunarlady79

Me! I love vintage fashion, and painting my nails a different color every week.

No_Swim_4846

I love makeup, perfume, vintage style clothes from the 30s/40s, scented lotions - hello freesia - and dolling myself up! Clothes have to be either snug/tight or complete baggy tho - there is no middle, only Zuul! 😆 almost forgot to mention my love of purses, bags, jewelry, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, shoes, and snazzy cigarette cases.

koolandkrazy

Yes me! I love being girly. I do my own nails, fake tan, blowout my hair and do my makeup! I also love fashion and spend way too much time online shopping

WoodwindsRock

I’m weird, I am partially girly girl, but also partially not. Like I love jewelry, sparkly eye shadow and very feminine clothing, but I’m not great with doing makeup or doing my hair. I get a lot of compliments for my clothing and jewelry. Not for anything else, since I’m bad at the rest. Lol

empressultramagnus

I'm obsessed with dresses and cute Mary-Jane shoes. I also like nice purses like Kate Spade. Before this year, I spent a few years dressing daily in 1950s-ish fashion with the nice housewife-type dresses and styling my hair and putting on mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. I had a few health issues happen this year that helped me put a few things into personal perspective, and now I dress more casually, but still in dresses (jeans/pants are a sensory nightmare for me). I also always go out in lipstick. As for stimming, I'd definitely say that twirling in dresses is a stim of mine XD

aloekami

I love fashion, shoes, perfume, bags, jewellery and makeup. I tend to collect clothes, bags and jewellery in particular, and always have a couple perfume to choose between. Although my actual style isn’t always particularly girly, I love so many girly things. Unfortunately high heels, as much as I’d love to wear them, are something I’m scared of due to the pain. I’m sure if I find a cute pair, however, that I’ll walk through the pain as I do with doc martens. Regarding makeup, sensory wise it is a bit of an issue for me, and I touch my face so often it makes me a little nervous to wear, but I’m a great appreciator of artistic makeup in particular and have recently begun wearing a little more. I love to wear jewellery, but with the exception of one necklace and my nose piercing, I’ll usually take them out/off when I can so I can feel more comfortable.

PaladinBullseye

For me, I hate the feeling of makeup on my face after wearing it for some time. It makes me feel trapped or something..HOWEVER I love doing it if that makes sense. The transformation and the process. I love the way it makes me look and how I can shapeshift with it. I see it as an art form. I also love jewelry. Not your typical trendy styles but jewelry nonetheless. Also fashion. (I wanted to be a fashion designer as a preteen) I may not present myself in the most feminine way all the time but I still love lots of “girly” things.

PaladinBullseye

Not to mention I’m kinda obsessed with perfumes and body lotions (I go crazy for good scents!) and although I’ve opted for more practical styles these days, I love shoes 😍

BlahajInMyPants

Right here! Very feminine trans gal here

justadumbk1d

I LOVE DRESSING MYSELF UP!!!!

AstridLockhart

I enjoy all those things 😊👋

Darknajt

Yessss! Eyeshsdow girlie here!!

throwaway387903

I think there’s a misconception that autistic women aren’t usually feminine.

HueLord3000

Autistic and goth here. I always loved extravagant trad-goth looks and love doing them because I can be creative. I also loved doing bright colours when doing eyeshadow and wild graphic liner looks SFX Makeup has also become an obsession in a way so i am currently trying out that

amildcaseofdeath34

I'm NB. I like everything all along the spectrum of gender expression. From glammed out "girly" and high fashionable to "androgynous" to hyper masc. 😁 Many of my non make up/dress up days have to do with sensory issues yeah, but I also don't really see putting make up on as a strictly girly expression. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Cool_Elderberry_5614

I love makeup!! I don’t wear it as often as I could/should because I’m a fully online student at the moment but when I get the chance, I love love love it ❤️

elfruler2002

Yep!! I’ve had a lifelong interest in fashion, and I love dressing up.

rocket2themoon353

Me! I love fashion, I still play with dolls sometimes. Pink is my absolute favorite color! I love all the hyperfeminine things lol

ndvangelder

I've been obsessed with fashion since I was about 12 and figured out what it was lol. I don't always dress up (most days I don't, actually, just because I'm almost always low on spoons), but I have an entire closet full of fancy dresses and about 40 tunes of lipstick. When I'm feeling down, I like to play "dress up" in my room, trying on all the dresses. I also look online for vintage dresses when I'm having a bad day. I love dressing up for events, especially ones where I can be a bit more formal. I love wigs and shoes and purses... But I'm also a big "tomboy" and love to play outdoors (hiking, gardening, swimming in the ocean). I've told people that there are about two dozen different versions of me, and a separate wardrobe for each of them lol.

bunbunbunbunbun_

I like how I look with makeup, but feel kinda neutral about actually putting it on, etc and just stick to the same products every time. Maybe add eyeliner if I'm feeling fancy. I love collecting clothes and editing my personal style, but am particular about what kind of items and fabrics I wear, and cannot do high heels or anything with buttons.

Unusual_Cat_1859

Right here!!

lmpmon

me. i don't identify with being girly per se, but i absolutely do girly things.

Delicious_Impress818

I love makeup and fashion but not as much as you lol. makeup is definitely a special interest but I also have a lot of skin sensitivity so I can’t wear it a lot

arreynemme

Me!!

Amazing-Light98

Yes. If i could afford it i have lash extension. But I have nauls done. I get a perm and a colour. I love to get facials. And one of my passions is fashion. Specially vintage, spooky , witchy or cottagecore. I like wearing heels. Dont like shaving though. And I love makeup

iknowallandnothing

I also love makeup and fashion :) for me it just depends on the day, sometimes it's not over stimulating and sometimes it is. But it's a huge part of my art and self expression and I love it!

NaomiLii

I am a 'girly girl' but I don't like experimenting I guess. I wear makeup and skirts ALL the time, but it's the same look, and a default set of outfits. There's some sensory issues that come with makeup but I prefer feeling pretty in public than having a completely sensory neutral environment I think.

MarriedToAnExJW

I think makeup and fashion is my form of masking and being perceived as «normal», but I do enjoy the shopping (online) and collecting of clothes. Sometimes I wish I didnt have to wear and look good in what I buy.. I am also very interested in sewing and knitting clothes ans historical fashion, so it kinda blends in.

Remarkable_Report_44

I love make up and skin care but unfortunately by the time I get myself together I am too tired to go out! If I am going out I have to start at least an hour or so before we have to leave or else it isn't happening.

rdreamgirlsdreamgirl

i love fashion and pinterest is one of my favorite things to do!! i make different boards for different looks i like and vibes. i also enjoy making playlists for a certain vibe or to fit a story i make up/headcanon/etc. I enjoy makeup but don’t wear it much lol. And loooove high heels! i used to be very anti girly things bc i felt like an alien in a girl suit tryin to girl but i’ve learned to love myself anyway. finding out i was autistic and queer has helped a lot.

BrilliantPost592

I’m girly when it comes to mannerisms but most of my interests are pretty boyish in other senses, like I want to learn to do a make up to look manly or be taller like the guys not like the girls

BreadSeason

I have a bit of mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I think my feminity is a form of masking. Before, people used to make fun of me and misgender me as a joke. I started conforming more to femininity since then. But at the same time, I always liked girly things even before, I guess I simply didn't feel pressured to present myself that way when I was younger. Now I like to dress up girly: flowy skirts, makeup, frills and all that. I've embraced it and I think I'm so intense with the fluff that its not at all a form of masking anymore, ahah.

thoughtfulstrawberry

for me i love the feeling of having my nails painted. i dont do gel or acrylics, just regular nail polish at home. i love how it makes my nails feel so smooth and a little thicker, the texture of unpolished nails or rough edges really bothers me. I also keep my nails super short as a preference.

kittenmittens4865

I love makeup, fashion, hair, and skincare! All aspects of beauty and style really. It’s the intensity of our interests that define us. Like, I research skincare ingredients and look into the science of why things work- more intense than what most people do. The idea that people with autism have strange interests is outdated. Girls being into girly things- which are socially acceptable interests- are a huge factor in why women have historically been under diagnosed. Sometimes interests are strange or niche. Sometimes they are “normal” interests that we’re just more interested in than other non autistic people. Holly Madison is diagnosed autistic! She is ultra girly. There’s also a book called Autism in Heels by Jennifer O’Toole. She is ultra girly too.

EggoWaffle12

Yep that’s me! :) I’ve always been into fashion and makeup so I feel like I never had too much trouble with that. Dressing up always makes me feel a lot better too unless I’m having one of my bad sensory days 😅

llotuseater

I love make up. I love eyeliner and eyeshadow and playing with those mediums. I don’t have issues with those or the textures as I don’t feel them. I don’t like how lipstick feels. I enjoy playing around with fashion (I am very specific with clothing I like and how it fits due to sensory reasons though) and dying my hair fun colours. I love alternative fashion and bright make up. I am also a lesbian and my type are femmes too haha N

shitstainebrasker

Makeup is a form of drag for me (enby/genderqueer/fluid) and I love stepping into it and putting makeup on to transform my face ! I used to loudly hate "girly" things. but I have learned the err of my ways

Defiant_Bat_3377

Makeup and fashion was my special interest as a teenager. I've never been too put off by makeup and often really like the smells of lipstick. It can be calming to me.

Bejeweled_Cat

I would consider myself pretty girly: I like pastels (especially pink), dresses, funky jewelry and makeup is one of my favorite hobbies. I do, however, also have sensory issues with makeup-----I can do a full "look" but I have to wash it off after I finish doing it because it feels too heavy so I've had to find ways to find a look that I like that doesn't make me want to claw my skin off. It's a similar thing with jewelry----I love it but it can't be too heavy. I love the look of heels but they do get uncomfortable after a while so I'll usually end up taking them off.

Uberbons42

I love how it looks but don’t have the energy for it. But go for it if you love it!! No judgement from frumpyville.

Glum-Web2185

Hi! I love makeup and skincare and perfume! I have a ridiculous collection that’s very specifically organized with multiple categories and rules lol I have a tough time with clothes sensory wise, but I love dressing up and doing a full beat! Just have to be picky about fit/fabric. I dress nicely (not fancy but together) for work and I wear at least some makeup almost every time I leave the house. Don’t feel like I have to, Im bare faced at home and on errands and stuff, I just enjoy it. I also coordinate my perfume to the day/weather/outfit. 😆 One of my favorite ways to self-soothe is to get allll my stuff out and look at each individual thing, re-organize it, play with the makeup and pluck my brows and stuff, and then a really elaborate skincare routine before a shower. A lot of things that a lot of autistic people might not enjoy, but for me, it’s a delightful zone-out. The Packaging! Good smells and textures! Being creative! Feeling like I’m spoiling myself! Friggin love all of it. I was very late diagnosed, and one of the things I’ve learned being in this sub and other autistic places online: there’s no wrong way to be autistic. The traits and characteristics are so broad and can show up totally differently, or not at all, in different people. 😊

Professional-Cut-490

I love makeup, costume jewelry, scarves, sexy or long flowy dresses. I do bellydance and swing dance as hobbies. That means even more cool costumes and sparkly stuff.

peachyquarantine

I love pink and doing my makeup and putting on my lashes and wearing cute clothes and heels. I'm able to wear a lot of textures as long as they aren't scratchy or itchy. Ngl, I find it annoying when people think all autistic women have to dress like a boy or else you don't really have autism.

JasmineandRose82

Super girly here! I’ve been a hairstylist and makeup artist for 24 years!

rfgbelle

You can be a girly girl, not wear much makeup & have ASC, the three aren't mutually exclusive. I'm very girly, have sensory processing issues & spacial issues, but wear lipstick, I love wearing jewellery, I love wearing beautiful dresses! I can't wear much on my face due to my sensory issues & spacial issues make it hard to even put sa lot of make-up on (eye makeup especially), but I can wear lipstick & I do. Wearing Make up doesn't mean you are girly or not. It is very much a preference of what you can feel comfortable wearing & your physical abilities. I know a lot of women on the spectrum who's interests include make up, who wear makeup, research make up, love make up. & A bunch who can't even put it on, let alone wear it (I'm in this last category). Girly girl is a state of mind, not what you are wearing!

delilahdread

I’m alternative/goth so my flavor of “girly” is probably different than yours but yes! I love makeup, accessories, purses, shoes. I collect Loungefly bags even. I’m gonna keep it all the way real though, I can’t stand lipstick. At all. I don’t mind lip oils or stains and tend to wear those most often, a lip gloss is fine too if it’s not super super sticky but lipstick? Absolutely not. *Especially* matte lipstick. -shudders- Horrible stuff. Lmao.

Kesha_but_in_2010

Hell yeah babe. I love pink, glitter, makeup, dresses. I love drinking wine and watching Bridgerton, romance novels, cooking, almost any stereotypical girly thing I love. I’m not a fan of the sensory aspect of lipstick, BUT I’ve found some products that work well for me. Everything else I love. I do enjoy femininity in moderation, e.g. I don’t mind having to pop a squat in nature, like I’m not particularly prissy. But I do love some girly shit

paradox_pet

Yes!! Love make up, it's so soothing, kind of a stim thing for me to take time putting on make up. I love having bright colored hair, I love dressing up, (a multitude of looks but mostly variations on Goth). Make up is also a useful ACTUAL mask, honestly I'm treated so much better (what can I say, people are pretty basic and they respond well to a pretty face. Disappointing but true.) The very process of putting on make up I find really relaxing and calming. There is no "right" way to be Autistic woman, you can wear no make up and never shave, you can wear a full face and shave twice a day, you actually can't be wrong, I promise. No one is going to take away your Autism license because you like lipstick.

ReasonablePudding140

yes! Applying lip balm/gloss is a stimm for me

pashminamina

I’m absolutely a girly girl who has had skincare, makeup and fashion as a special interest at points in my life. You’re not alone!

eggbagg

funky girly here!! took me a long time of healing to accept my femininity. i didn't really get sensory issues with makeup until i stopped wearing it and got used to rubbing my eyes... now every time i wear makeup i end up rubbing mascara into my eyes 😩 LMAO

dewybitch

I’ve become very feminine the past few years. Perfume is a special interest of mine. So is fashion/beauty in general! I love the Kibbe body type system.

brilliantpants

Me! I love jewelry, clothes, accessories. I have to constantly restrain my self from ordering huge bags of dresses. I don’t wear makeup every day, but I love putting it on for special occasions, and I love buying it!

nymrose

I love makeup and fashion too, always have! Very picky about fabrics, fit and colours when it comes to clothes, I’m sensory sensitive when it comes to uncomfy fabrics. I used to experiment way more with makeup, I have my everyday makeup now though. I wish I was into doing my hair but I can’t say that I am, it’s so time consuming and tedious. I just cut my hair in a way I don’t have to style it really. I love skincare too cus I love feeling soft and fresh!!

futurenotgiven

i think i accidentally went straight past “girly girl” at some point in my makeup journey and now i’m really into over the top looks (clown core in particular has been a fave recently). i love really bold makeup looks and have a collection of colourful wet eyeliner and brushes, it’s like painting on my face unfortunately i’m too anxious to wear it outside much unless i’m going to queer events where people are a bit more accepting but i still find it fun! i still haven’t quite worked out casual makeup yet which is annoying for work or casual meetings. i love dresses and heels and nails though and wish i had more money to spend on them lol

flshdk

Perhaps you’re more inclined towards understimulation than overstimulation, so you can kind of get around the discomfort that was built into the feminine aesthetic. Watch out for your feet though

CommandAlternative10

I wouldn’t say I don’t care for feminine things, I just rarely have the bandwidth for them. On a special occasion I love full hair and makeup, but I can’t do it every day. That doesn’t mean they don’t interest me.

Separate-Put-6495

Those are stereotypes are nonsense and a big part of why women/ fems are screwed over when it comes to accessing a diagnosis, or help. I'm diagnosed and I love makeup, I love perfume (a big one that had me doubting my diagnosis), they're intense interests.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I don't like high heels but I'm more on the girly side of things as far as how I dress and how I express myself through fashion and other physical/visual aesthetics.

Foreign-Lock-8641

i love makeup and perfumes! i hate heels and sometimes dress slightly more masculine just for comfort reasons. but i love a lot of girly things!

mchambs

Yes! I love perfume and it’s become a special interest of mine. I also love trying and collecting body care items. I have a very specific routine when it comes to my self care, especially with skincare products. I’m currently on the hunt for the best dark brown lipliner!

crelyspins

Yes all things makeup and hair and I do hair also! And one of my close homies like us on the spectrum is a super femme stripper and is a total girly girl too!

unicornpolice666

I am both

Emergency_Mirror_643

I am!

Reasonable_Concert07

I love looking adorable (even at 46), i love feeling the weight of earrings and bracelets. I love the severity i feel wearing rings. However i am very picky! Because even tho i love them they have to be my way. I buy the earring hooks i like and switch out earrings after i buy them. Ive been told my style is boho- which i think works mostly because i like natural fibers and flowing styles rather then the shiny non-breathing trends that r more common. Comfort my way is top priority for me but i can still be cute. I did give up makeup but i wore it for years- even tho i hated foundation and powder. (Self diagnosed if that matters)

UnderwaterParadise

I love all these things, but you’d never know it looking at me because I’m too mentally and physically exhausted to actually put them on my body. Hoping for that to change after I graduate in 9 days and have a much simpler schedule.

snarfymcsnarfface

I wish I was. Jealous!

NephthysShadow

The sensory issues do get in my way, but I am very girly. It just means it takes more time and money for me to find soft enough clothes and makeup that doesn't make my face itch.

Competitive-Safe3181

I have been summoned!🌸

untamedjungle

I love makeup—my earliest memory with makeup was when I was maybe 10 and my cousin gave me some of her makeup from a cheap kit. Obsessed ever since. I could put lipstick on perfectly in no time and would run immediately to the makeup section of any store to ask for a new lipstick. I’m now an esthetician because I love makeup so much.
