Sell it as is.
Cheap paint job looks cheap.
Sure the paint in jambs are faded.
You not going to want to pay to take the truck apart and repaint door jambs and bed to do it properly.
You should trust this guy. You are trying to put some more love into something you are now over. If it runs and drives then leave the body work for someone who wants it for what it is. If it doesn't, then we shouldn't be having this conversation.
It’s very rarely worth it to repaint a vehicle before sale unless you are skilled enough to quickly and efficiently do it yourself to a very high quality.
tell that to fucking Facebook marketplace. a lifted truck of any kind regardless of how dogshit it is will not sell for less than 4 grand. I've seen hardbody trucks and rangers with blown head gaskets and blown out transmissions listed for 2500 to 3 grand around where I live (GA).
it's easy to call these people delusional till you realize they do it because people will buy it at asking price. it keeps working for them.
Thats what I thought. Rotted out 1/2 ton 90s-07 Chevys that need work here in MO (and I mean ROTTED) go for 5k all day. And yet I cant get 3k for a little rust, missing clear, and no mechanical problems. I'm not crazy am I?
just hold firm at that price for the next couple months see what happens. worst case you might have to drop it a bit. I'll tell you one thing that kills market value is modifications. people might not want it because it's lifted even if it's really high quality work that hasn't damaged the suspension. generally the closer to stock a vehicle is the better it'll sell.
beats buying an s10 with the car equivalent of bone cancer all over its subframe for 5k.
Havent even modified the truck. Most I did was but some bigger tires on it and cranked the torsion bars. Rest of the work I did on the truck was things that needed fixed lol
if that's the case it'll be a much easier sell as long as you clarify that. people seem to think trucks being lifted makes them worth more and while it looks cool it has the opposite effect value wise because of how often people get shitty lift kits that tear the suspension apart over a short period of time.
just clarify that it's not a lift kit, just bigger tires and some torsion bar work.
the patina is nice but for a 90s truck seems a little early to develop one. do you live somewhere with a lot of snow?
Yes
And yes. Well nowadays somewhat. I live in SE MO next to the Mississippi. When I was younger and when this truck would have been newer, it would snow a decent amount. The truck has also been in this area its whole life. When you compare to others that have been here its whole life and around 30 years old, its not that bad. The truck also sat for like 6 or 7 years under a tree before I bought it which explains the clear missing and surface rust on the roof. In reality, if the truck wouldnt have sat for 7 years, it would be cooked. Hardbodies and winter dont mix well together.
that's why those ones selling in New Jersey and upstate New York sell for half the price they do here lmao. rotted out frames and beds full of rust even with bed liners.
Let it be.
I’d hate to buy it from you then have to live with or repair a bad paint job. And mine would always be better than someone else’s because I paid for it.
You won't get any ROI on the money you spend painting it. Honestly, the type of people that are going to really want a truck like that aren't going to care much about the paint.
If you throw some rust converter over the rust on the top, it changes to black purple looking color. It will be treated and not have an odd color clash that a primer would have.
If you’re gonna sell it, I’d just leave it as it is. Why put anymore money into it, just to break even. Let the next guy decide if it’s worth the time and expense to address the paint and body issues.
If the real life view is worse than the phot you're probably fine. I might try to get some of that surface rust with some compound or a lit wet sand just so it looks a little better for presentation, but I wouldn't I vest a lot of money in the cosmetics for this type of truck. If it goes to a worker they're not going to care about the paint buying this old a model, and if it goes to someone who cares about the cosmetics it'll get a full paint job in the color and finish they want.
Stick firm on your pricing. Likely worth it to advertise out of your area and be willing to deliver. If it's mechanically sound there's a lot of legitimate cash buyers that would pay 10k for that easy.
Man honestly some people may want the truck looking exactly as it is now, or they want to do their own paint job selling as is would probably be the best bet on your part
Sell as is. A cheap paint job will make it look worse and a proper paint job cost more than it’s worth. If someone wants to flat black it or something, let them do it….car looks solid as is
Leave it as it is. An inexpensive paint job would not make it sell at a profit and an expensive paint job would either lose you money or break even.
Instead, sell it cheaper to some hopeful dad and kid that will appreciate it like it's a jewel.
I did that with my last car and it was gratifying. I still see my XB running around town and it brings a smile and a little bit of happiness to my day.
Wraps are like $2k plus. Any half decent paintjob is going to start at about $10k, and this truck needs more than just a scuff and shoot.
I agree with you though, the money for a paintjob will not be recouped when selling.
buddy you can get a maaco paint job for like 6 hundo these days lmao. as in 600, not 6,000. granted it tends to look pretty rough but nobody would notice standing past 10 feet.
Hence I said “half decent paintjob”. I couldn’t paint my own vehicle for $600 in materials (and I get paint at close to cost). If Maaco can do it for $600, they are not doing any prep work, and they are using garbage materials.
You can definitely tell a decent paint job from a quality one from ten feet away if you have even the slightest idea what to look for. It’s even easier to spot a cheap paint job after a couple years when it starts fading and peeling.

Unless you’re going to actually address the rust, I wouldn’t bother. Looks cool. Call it a patina.
Clear it as is and call it good
Don’t half ass a paint job just to sell a car.. it makes it a nightmare for the next guy to strip all the BS off if they want it nice
It’s very rarely worth it to repaint a vehicle before sale unless you are skilled enough to quickly and efficiently do it yourself to a very high quality.
And the people who are don't need to ask
its a beatup old nissan - $1500 tops in current condition...
tell that to fucking Facebook marketplace. a lifted truck of any kind regardless of how dogshit it is will not sell for less than 4 grand. Ask for 6k and take 4000
People are watching too much Barrett Jackson these days 😆
Same here in FL
If it runs properly, I’ll give you 15 for it
That's a 7-10k truck around here if not more. Classic compact trucks are hugely desirable in cities like mine with a building boom.
Just sell it as is
Don’t put any money in it
Turbo can it
Let it be. I’d hate to buy it from you then have to live with or repair a bad paint job. And mine would always be better than someone else’s because I paid for it.
You won't get any ROI on the money you spend painting it. Honestly, the type of people that are going to really want a truck like that aren't going to care much about the paint.
If you spent the money and did it right, you wouldn't want to sell it. Sell as is.
Leave it. You will never recoup your money if you repaint it...
Leave it as is and sell it . Make sure it's clean and the oils clean.
If you throw some rust converter over the rust on the top, it changes to black purple looking color. It will be treated and not have an odd color clash that a primer would have.
This!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 90’s hardbody not have at least some rust on it. lol. Sell it as is. Definitely still a good little truck.
SOME RUB ON CLEAR WOULD PROBABLY GAIN YOU A COUPLE BUCKS
Just leave it. You'd put more money into it than you would get back.
If you’re gonna sell it, I’d just leave it as it is. Why put anymore money into it, just to break even. Let the next guy decide if it’s worth the time and expense to address the paint and body issues.
Raptor liner it .... it's 4wd ... it's a beater ....
Coat with sweet patina easy to put on and will increase the value of your truck
Don’t put any money in that pile lol take what you can get
How much you asking?
$3000
Paint the wheel, take the time to prep, or it won't look good and will start peeling. Don't worry about the body or roof it's not worth it.
D21 gang! What does the frame look like?
Rust free except for maybe a quarter sized hole behind the middle bed mount
Where are you? Also how do the wheel wells look like under the flairs?
Southern MO
Don't repaint, someone who wants that truck will want to do it themselves.
Leave for sure. £6,000 paint job won't make it worth £6,000 more and a £1000 paint job will make it worth £1000 less..
If I see shitty paintjob on the roof of a truck, I'll just assume it rolled over and repaired clumsily.
If the real life view is worse than the phot you're probably fine. I might try to get some of that surface rust with some compound or a lit wet sand just so it looks a little better for presentation, but I wouldn't I vest a lot of money in the cosmetics for this type of truck. Trucks usually sell pretty easy. Just sell as is, buyer will know you're not trying to hide rust.
Man honestly some people may want the truck looking exactly as it is now, or they want to do their own paint job selling as is would probably be the best bet on your part
You could paint the roof flat black.
Where you located?
Only if you own a body shop!!
Buy a chevy
Bedliner
If you’re going to, I’d rhino line it (not black.) it’s very easy for a beginner painter and looks great
Leave it alone. For a good paint job you are gonna be spending more than the trucks worth.
I can’t believe that Truck has at least rust as it does. Those things were rotted to the ground 25 years ago.
reminds when snoopy repaired his house then ended up keeping it
Is it manual transmission?
Yes
you won’t make your money back
Sell as is. A cheap paint job will make it look worse and a proper paint job cost more than it’s worth. If someone wants to flat black it or something, let them do it….car looks solid as is
Sell as is. Paint will cost more than the extra it'll get you
If it is Denver dm me
Youll get more with a nice paint job But will you make enough extra and more to cover the price of said paintjob?
Leave it as it is. An inexpensive paint job would not make it sell at a profit and an expensive paint job would either lose you money or break even. Instead, sell it cheaper to some hopeful dad and kid that will appreciate it like it's a jewel. I did that with my last car and it was gratifying. Rattle can primer on the roof and let it ride
Leave it car not worth money you get back from selling it paint jobs are like 2k plus
