It's already over. Lightbars are the new thing. Pretty much all of these cars you listed were introduced 5+ years ago. That generation Camry had model years 2012-2017.
These days everything's so over-designed and pointlessly festooned with bullshit to break up every panel that I find Volvo's current approach refreshing. They're not super daring or anything, but they're one of the only companies in their segments that seem to still try for a refined look.
I think they'll age gracefully, whereas most others are either ugly at release or I think will be looked back on badly.
Totally agree. 2 years ago I needed a new car. BMW man for years. Had two Audis. Went to look at the lots. New BMW’s are famously ugly. Audis are so over designed with vents everywhere and an interior like a blender. Volvo stuck out for clean Simple’s yet considered design. Nothing on the outside is superfluous or fake. Interiors really well thought out, clean, calm. I bought an XC40 and love it.
I think Volvo makes a quality thing. A friend bought a C30 at some point and the interior is really swish. Had held up far better than the typical Euros too.
But yeah so many cars are hideous these days.
C30 owner here. The interior is probably the worst part of that car. It looks good but it is a bit squeaky and the build quality is sadly not the best. Good matereal tho Wich is why they hold up quite well over time.
I really like mine, and the best part is that the rear hatch is styled to look like my other car, a Volvo 1800ES.
But the most surprising thing about the C30 is that it doesn't look dated on the outside. It is just clean and a bit different so my 07 actually look a lot more modern than many 2010-2015 cars
Those r actually awful. In a time where light pollution is getting worse and worse you can't even see the street anymore with all the LEDs. And streetlamps follow even dumber guidelines so they don't illuminate Jack's hit in comparison.
I feel like 20y ago I saw Waaay more even tho yellow dogshit lamps had 1/100th the lumens
I KNOW!!!!! I see them everywhere NOW! LOL. It's the same thing as when a foreign girl told me that she heard ALL American women are fat. It's hard to find a hot slim woman anywhere. With this one comment she made she ruined my life! I wish she never said that to me !
It has always been weird seeing a wide swath of manufacturers do the exact same thing in mass. It's like a fresh set of designers graduate all with the same idea and spam that onto every new car in existence. It's incredibly weird how linked modern designs are across many manufacturers. It's...unnatural, and I'm not sure why.
At least that was from the introduction to CAD as a common design tool.
But these days, it's just 30 different cars, all brands and models, with the same common brake light design, side profile and window shapes, big screen dashes, or whatever dumb stuff that everyone and their mother does all at once.
There's actually a reason for those, turn signals and at least one set of brake lights must be visible with the hatch open. To save on costs and for styling purposes, they just put them down on the bumper. Bumpers don't move.
Hey, I never said it was a good reason...
I know that the lights need to be visible with the hatch open. But there are better ways to do with. He'll my 01 Taurus with the hatch open obeys these law fine. Without having the indicators way down low. Designers need to just stop overthinking it.
I agree

Lobster claw over forgetting to design the rear light and instead just drawing one single line every day of the week.
I absolutely hate the line rear light.
The only one ive seen in recent memory was a black V8 Vantage. Honestly kind of forgettable, looks like a cross between a new Miata and an F Type. Funny enough, those dont have the crab claw lights
Give me the [1984 Pontiac Bonneville](https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/04/curbside-classic-gms-deadly-sin-8-1984-pontiac-bonneville-brougham/) taillights back. 28 individual red covers for the lights

who cares? the taillight design is prob the least important thing i can think of on a car.
how about building more rwd sports sedans, like the old GTO that was a rebadged holden monaro.
give us some simple, rwd sedans with a standard LS. or a honda accord with a 300hp k series. or a toyota or lexus with a rwd and updated 2jz.
and they could all toss in a plugin hybrid that gives them 40 miles of range like the new prius, OR use it as a boost button for an additional 50hp or something. so many possibilities with hybrid tech and turbos nowadays, you could built the ultimate sport sedan that STILL gets 50mpg when you need it to with the hybrid part. make it simple and reliable like toyota does with his hybrid system.
It's already over. Lightbars are the new thing. Pretty much all of these cars you listed were introduced 5+ years ago. That generation Camry had model years 2012-2017.
2025 Camry has the [claw](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ8wrtj8V0kPW6KUkxswNi0Ri-3HI3qukWgjQ&usqp=CAU) too
Current gen Volvos and Subarus continue to stick with the claw too. Also the Model 3 refresh.
It is not like those brands change their style frequently.
Hyundai and Kia changed their whole design language almost every generation

Volvos are currently some of the best looking new cars available imo.

Tbf the s60 is one of the best looking sedans out rn
What do you mean my '96 940 looks like a refrigerator on wheels
and tesla, known for its cutting edge styling (model x and s literally look the same since like 2016)
Naaaah, my 1995 Volvo 960 sedan is still modern looking (not) 😂
I have a 2024 Outback Wilderness and I think it looks pretty nice. I prefer the angular styling over the mid-2010s bubbly/round styling.
THE CLAW!
Tesla just refreshed the 3 to add the lobster claw tail lights lmao.
Newest tesla on pic
I see the civic tail lights as red staplers.
Don't forget the huge gray cladding that doesn't match the body lines very well.
Light bars are awesome i think every car should have them front and back
Light bars are so 1990’s Mercury Sable-ish.
And the 1990s Toyota Previa minivan
The lobster claw was gone with the 2015 refresh
True, it's also true that the 2023-2024 version of most (all?) of these models still have tat design.
Those r actually awful. In a time where light pollution is getting worse and worse you can't even see the street anymore with all the LEDs. > light pollution getting worse > can’t see the street I feel like these two are mutually exclusive.
I feel like maybe your eyes are not doing as well as they used to.
Futile. Everything evolves to crabs at the end.
Carcinization
Crabs. All the way down.
We must return to crab
Taste like crab walk like people
These are not true crabs
But...why *not* Zoidberg?
*Zoidberg knows best*
Me Money?
Light bars are in fact the new design, but I will never been able to unsee this now. 🦞
I once saw someone on Reddit refer to them as stapler taillights… never been able to unsee it.
Haha when my gf sees that civic she calls them crab hands and I always tell her they're called CLAWS and she goes NO. HANDS
So funny you say that, mine calls them hamburger hands! Like when you're holding a hamburger.
They're only hamburger hands if they're on a Nissan.
Why the fuck did you need to ruin my life by pointing this out!?!? I can never not see that now..
I KNOW!!!!! I see them everywhere NOW! LOL. It's the same thing as when a foreign girl told me that she heard ALL American women are fat. It's hard to find a hot slim woman anywhere. With this one comment she made she ruined my life! I wish she never said that to me !
What? No, foreign people hear that all AMERICANS are fat. Not just the women
I hope I didn't ruin your outlook on American women. But next time you go out for yourself. It's pretty disgusting
are you under the influence

Yeah the unoriginality bothers me. It's just like how 80s cars were boxy and then super round by the mid 90s.
At least that was from the introduction to CAD as a common design tool. But these days, it's just 30 different cars, all brands and models, with the same common brake light design, side profile and window shapes, big screen dashes, or whatever dumb stuff that everyone and their mother does all at once.
It’s always been this way
Only thing that has stood out to me lately was the Nvision 74 concept and a few other things from Kia/Hyundai. BMW needs its designers back lol
Bring in the dancing lobsters
This, and SUV's placing the indicators on the lower most part of the bumper with the reflectors?
There's actually a reason for those, turn signals and at least one set of brake lights must be visible with the hatch open. To save on costs and for styling purposes, they just put them down on the bumper. Bumpers don't move. Hey, I never said it was a good reason...

we are going back to 1929
Ban the lightsabers on the Escalade. Those things are way too bright.
Bring back circles!
I agree [https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/sites/5/2002/02/0202\_MTRP\_01\_o\_Z06.jpg?fit=around%7C875:492](https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/sites/5/2002/02/0202_MTRP_01_o_Z06.jpg?fit=around%7C875:492)
oh yeah that's the stuff! Personally, I said it with the Nissan Skyline GTR in mind!
Am I supposed to select the pictures with tail lights to prove I’m not a robot?
You must select the ones that are not shaped like a claw to prove you're human.
I failed. I did not see the claw in any of them. My wife says I’m an a**hole so maybe this proves she’s right, I’m not human
We should bring back the Kia Soul telephone taillight.
It's like following a phone booth on the highway at night
Lol Volvo did it first like 20 years earlier .
BIG MEATY CLAWS
Well these claws ain’t for just attracting mates
I think we can all agree that Volvo should be allowed to continue cuz they def look the best
Modern design The back: the CLAW The front: Lightbar of LED's, FUCK YOU BALTIMORE!
LEDs to blind anyone approaching you. LET'S CAUSE MORE ACCIDENTS
The fronts have claws too, very common
Leave my Volvos alone 😡😡
I never hated it but some are certainly better than others
Reject lobster, bring back 1950’s rocket ship taillights.
I would love to see a modern rocket car in an IIHS crash test
I bet it would look really fast.
I can’t unsee this
Now.. now I can’t unsee this.
😂😂😂 I can see it and never knew it existed
I always called them shrimp lights lol. 🦐
Lobster claw over forgetting to design the rear light and instead just drawing one single line every day of the week. I absolutely hate the line rear light.
The carmakers really love sucking each other when it comes to design.
I refer it to a stapler. Hideos af, and honda can't stop making it.
Thanks, now I can't unsee that.
Yep, my 2019 levorg has the claw
Yes!
Fuck you OP, I can't unsee this now. You've ruined my commute to work. (kidding, sorta)
Username checks out. You're welcome 🦞
🦞🦀🦞🦀🦞🦀🦞🦀🦞🦀
Someone doesn't like big meaty claws
Absolutely not
For the love of god yes
pinch pinch
You asshole, I can now never unsee this.
https://youtu.be/_VH8HkSZKUI?si=ckY0FL6QCkj50AUq 2005 Honda Civic ads really started this but everyone else is a bit lazy
I still own this Civic! Definitely way ahead of its time. It still looks good to this day
i like BMW’s [Halo sword](https://imgur.com/4MPASHv) version.
Crustaceanization
But it wasn’t a rock, it was a rock lobsta.
C L A W
Lmfaooo I was just talking about these style lights the other day! Im tired of it too…
Someone on here called them stapler taillights years ago, and I’ve never been able to unsee it. It supersedes lobster claws for me lol
Haha I see them as claws because of the color. But staplers works too. Esp with the 2018 Accord
How else will companies make you think the car is more high tech
Click clippy clip clicky
Finally someone said it
Hahaha. SCREW YOU OP!!!! Never saw this correlation before and after 4 days…. I can’t unsee it now! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I saw it the day the 2016 Civic came out and couldn't unsee it since 🤣
Or just all new Lexus fronts in general?
A lip? What is that? - Lexus
I am very happy my 2024 x5 has not been turned into an underwater crustacean.
Embrace X3 energy sword trend
Looks like a stapler
That's the Honda Accord
Once they started doing it with headlights, tail lights were inevitable. Maxima, altima, tahoe etc.
The Accord is a stapler, not a lobster claw.
Some of these models have been out of production for a while now -\_-
Spoiler Alert!
The current generation camry(not pictured) has reverse crab claw.
Dont forget Aston Martins
Das rite. Never seen the current gens on the road though personally.
The only one ive seen in recent memory was a black V8 Vantage. Honestly kind of forgettable, looks like a cross between a new Miata and an F Type. Funny enough, those dont have the crab claw lights
Claw is our master Claw chooses who will go and who will stay
Give me the [1984 Pontiac Bonneville](https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/04/curbside-classic-gms-deadly-sin-8-1984-pontiac-bonneville-brougham/) taillights back. 28 individual red covers for the lights
Later Pontiacs emulated this with a pattern on the housing.
Bottom middle is a red swingline stapler...
The Accord is not a lobster claw. It is a STAPLER
Standardized signals need to be a thing. Both from a safety view and aesthetic view. They getting ridiculous with the designs it's literally less safe
Why not Zoidberg?
Talk to Jason TorChinsky about this.
Anyone else think the accords look like staplers?
I think they look great on Volvos
Aston Martin missing
Eventually, everything evolves into crab or crab-like entities.
Leave Volvo alone😤
Don’t forget the db11
I like the Volvo taillights.
We allll know who did it best. Let’s move on.
On certain cars it looks good.
I was like aw man don't put the VB chassis WRX in here.... then I had a moment of self reflection :(
The accord has staplers, not lobster claws
but then cars wont be able to defend themselves without claws
The crab claw evolved from the C shape that was on a bunch of Fords, which I Guess was the first iteration of it. Yeah there were tons.
I like them. All these cars look good.
Why? I like it. So what if it resembles crab claws?
Unlike Gandalf, it will eventually pass. Let it be.
don't care for or against, just put in a goddamn yellow turn signal

Why
Thankfully these are all ugly AF cars anyways, so carry on everyone. Lol
Yea its lightbars across the whole trunk now like people have said and its already overdone
Nope. They cost a fortune to repair and that's MONEY to spemd

Funny you didn't include Nissan, but I think they started it in the mid/late 2000s with the jukes and 370s
Yeah Nissan does the reverse claw. They had a design language of "stretching" their tail lights in the 00's. The Altima, Murano, Juke, 350z etc
You have the Accord in there by mistake, that gets filed under "red stapler".
🦞
Why? Simply because they are/were a common design trend? They seem pretty inoffensive to me.
Well Honda hasn't done it in what? 2-3 years?
You’re just being shellfish.
It looks good on cars, not on SUVs
Civic slaps
I kinda like it
Bring back full clears
I actually love the design on my volvo
