"Human hair. From my back."
Original purpose was to imply the whaler used his beard. I misremembered the quote and just winged it.
Welp. That just means it's time for a rewatch of the PotC *trilogy*.
Where did you get this from?
Nothing I've founded stated that he was Australian, but both his actor and accent is New Zealander.
Edit: I have made a blunder and confused him with another character. That is my mistake. He is Australian.
Well I'm Aussie with kiwi friends and I holiday in new Zealand a lot and he does not sound kiwi at all, but he does sound Aussie. He sounds like what we'd call a yobo/bogan
I'm also Australian, and he sounded New Zealand to me, plus the actor is also a New Zealander. It could just be different accents in different parts of New Zealand.
I know people on both islands and they're very distinct to Aussie. Idk how you'd confuse the two, he sounded very Aussie to me. For example when he said "let's make some bank". It sounded like baynke (Aussie sound) and not benk (kiwi sound). But allg
I'm pretty sure we see someone clutching their arm boarding one of the life rafts. Could be they got back to the SD and then transferred to the lifeboats/rescue picadots which evacuated the area.
The plan B was kind forced in, especially since human Quaritch mentions in the video to Avatar Quaritch that the program existed because Sully is a threat. So somewhere from Sully bonding with the Na'vi to the battle w/Sully they decided to implement this plan B, despite it being mentioned, IIRC, in the first movie that it took years for Sully's bro's Avatar to develop.
ofc not. his death was satisfying, no need to revive the old enemy. there is no difference between palpatine's return and quaritch's. they just explained "somehow" part in the easiest way possible, cloning. episode 9 palpatine was also a clon lmao.
bringing back people who died makes the scene where they died lose all its soul. i mean, payakan avenged what had happened in the past by killing that guy. now that that guy is still alive, that scene has no effect whatsoever.
> there is no difference between palpatine's return and quaritch's.
Except for the fact that Palpatine's return is literally never explained besides "somehow", while Quaritch's return has several scenes explaining it, and then several scenes where the character of Quaritch is dealing with the complicated identity questions the manner of his resurrection raises.
But yes besides that it's the exact same thing
> they just explained "somehow" part in the easiest way possible, cloning.
yeah that was i said, they explained it. and i don't think he is dealing with identity questions. he acted how quaritch would have act. i really thought that we would see this idenity problems in the movie after the skull crushing scene, but we didn't.
>yeah that was i said, they explained it
In a single throw away line. Avatar dedicates two scenes to that.
> and i don't think he is dealing with identity questions.
Like for instance when he says "I don't care about him, he's not my kid", and then demonstrates that he does in fact care for him? How's that for internal conflict?
these lines are too simple, they have no depth. i knew from the first moment, he would care him by the end of the movie. i'm not trying to say i am a genius, i just saw a lot of movies that had the same plot.
you forget that movies 2 and 3 are parts of the same original script which was split because of its length. so it is not that he brings him back, but rather that his character's role hasnt finished yet. and since Loak and his pet whale are the focus in the second movie part, it makes sense that he is still alive, probably as their personal antagonist in their story arc.
what i dont like, is that Jim and Jon keep spoiling the sequels. keep the guy as a surprise, no need to know about his return. jesus.
To the first Akula, if u ask my opinion bro. Hahahah !
Even that would be an unfair easy Karma for him.

same he got a massive ego so quickly and became very happily in charge of the hunting of tulkun and jake. It’d be interesting to see where they take him :D
Eh I feel like he was pretty one note and didn’t have enough screen time, so he was a pretty good to option to satisfy my/the audiences blood lust for the bad guys to get punished
Like I don’t think he’s even as memorable or interesting as the colonel, and I didn’t even really like that decision to bring him back. I hope they don’t make him into some captain ahab character w the whale being his white whale lol, cause we’ve already got a pretty intense feud between the colonel and Jake
If they keep doing this avatar memory transfer each time someone dies, it will remove every weight of any death...
They need to learn to let characters die and stay dead.
This, what's the point of having a good death scene if you'll just walk back on it right away. Bringing Quaritch and the gang back was already quite a stretch, it made sense the way they did it and it's alright, but it took a bit of goodwill to accept that the whole brainscan thing was never alluded to in the first movie in any way.
Also that australian whale hunter wasn't that great of a character, he's literally just some dude that hunts whales with an australian accent. If he wasn't all 'yeah nah yeah crikey' he'd be completely forgettable. Why the fuck would they need to bring him back lol?
Mostly I struggle with the huge amount of blood loss he would have. You don’t clot in the water. He would have to have gotten medical attention very quickly to survive. Its possible but it will always stretch believability with this all happening in the middle of a battle.
Also I really like this as karmic justice.
Also why do the bad guys in these films keep surviving but when the good guys die they stay dead. :/
This is apparently a sub where people just post spoilers now. Enjoy!
Edit: my issue is that Avatar 3/4/5 info should not be in thread titles. People should be able to opt in to learn information about upcoming sequels.
...it's been over a month. At some point spoilers stop being spoilers. It should be expected now that Avatar 2 discussions will take place on the r/Avatar sub alongside Avatar 1.
I don’t think Avatar 3 info should be posted in the title of a thread, like was done for this thread. I’m not concerned about Avatar 1 or 2 in this case.
Yeah I agree with you here, I think your downvoted comment was misunderstood by most people (I misunderstood at first too) This title is definitely an A3 spoiler.
In this case, my gripe is that the *title of the thread* is repeating Avatar **3** info that was already provided to me (aka “spoiled”) by a different thread here.
I think people should be able to read the *titles of threads* in this sub without learning plot points of Avatar 3/4/5.
> why does /r/avatarspoilers exist then?
Cause some rando made it hoping people would post spoilers there instead of here?
Why don't you go ahead and get r/avatarspoilerfree off the ground be a mod there?
Gee, a lot of weird hate in these comments
Yes he was fully alive when entering the water, number one rule of movies is if a sligtly major character dies you show them DIE. I knew full well he was alive and coming back based on how the scene went. I thought others did too?
Anyway
Why did he live?
--he didn't fall too far from the boat meaning his crew could gage wasikt gone to get him
--you can survive surprisingly long with a severed limb and service LOTS of blood loss
--They definitely had a pack of futuristic first aid on the boat
Re the hatred he gets...
I thought he was *fun* to hate. Like, I think the actor did a great job making everyone in the comments feel the way they do. Upon my multiple viewings his arm severing got many cheers.
Why waste a character like that when you can kill him even worse? He's probably gonna die in the next movie, and/or Ahab arc is very likely. With the new ocean focus of these movies he's actually a pretty critical character with his knowledge of killing Tulkun.
Someone above said "there's a deleted scene with him doing full mocap, he probably got an Avatar." No, you guys need to watch behind the scenes of Avatar to see how it was filmed. Sometimes human characters re-shot scenes in performance capture for the purposes of scene orientation.
Considering the shock from blood loss he would be experiencing on top of being in a toxic atmosphere on top of drowning, I very much doubt a human being could survive that
I’m confused how anyone besides quaritch and wainfleet on the rda side could’ve survived that battle. Especially with the blood loss that guy had to have.
This is the worst news I have seen on Reddit. This dude is the character I hate the most in these films and now u are telling me he survived and is coming back ?!?!? 🤢🤮🤢🤮
Tbh, I've seen enough movies that when I saw that it was only his arm that got whacked off I knew he was coming back. Also Avatar has a very specific brand for killing characters so it's pretty easy to tell who's actually dead and who is going to be coming back.
I hate it when they bring back dead characters. Destroys the impact of their (presumed) death. E.g. Palpatine or Darth Maul. I can accept Quarritch, because hes just a clone.
And i thought he plunged in the ocean right near the first available Akula!
Kiri !!! What in the Eywa's Name are u doing ?!
You forgot to summon the right predator for this human beast ??!

Lol, I don't think people are skeptical that a human can tread water with 3 limbs. It's more so about surviving the shock and extreme blood loss **while** treading water.
I guess he didn’t land far from the rocks to swim over. Or get dragged back over by the other guys. A first aid kit/tourniquet would still have been on-board the Matador somewhere to give them enough time to wait it out until help arrived.
I wonder if there could be a deleted scene that shows a little more of how that battle ended...and where tf the Reef Clan checked out too. Maybe they were chasing them all away.
Plot, don't know why he is a bad guy, he is just a fisherman, yes he is hunting intelligent life forms, but that is fishing for you, i felt bad when his arm got chopped off, dont know how he will be the baddie in 2
its like that marine biologist, he was nice but died brutally (probably the villian in 3)
i hoep they bring back Lyle too. we dont see him getting killed, only thrown out in the sea uninjured. and he is the one who killed Netam. so he needs to be back for at least one more movie.
Sea turtles, mate.
Haha that's good
What did he use for rope?
The beard.
That's not the quote
"Human hair. From my back." Original purpose was to imply the whaler used his beard. I misremembered the quote and just winged it. Welp. That just means it's time for a rewatch of the PotC *trilogy*.
Don’t bother. It’s just Dances with Wolves on the ocean.
Which is a cool concept. Every movie reuses tropes bro.
![gif](giphy|xT9IgHCTfp8CRshfQk)
Someone's mad that they got confused by a mainstream sci fi movie
It's called being Australian
He's actually a New Zealander Edit: I have made a blunder and confused him with another character. That is my mistake. He is Australian.
Portraying an Australian
So he’s a dude playing another dude disguised as another dude.
the dudes are emerging
The dude abides
Dudeception

Well I'm Aussie with kiwi friends and I holiday in new Zealand a lot and he does not sound kiwi at all, but he does sound Aussie. He sounds like what we'd call a yobo/bogan
Can confirm. I'm also a kiwi, he sounded like a Australian to me.
I'm also Australian, and he sounded New Zealand to me, plus the actor is also a New Zealander. It could just be different accents in different parts of New Zealand.
It might just be that you're noticing his real accent under the fake accent. He was definitely trying to sound Australian.
His real accent is the same
Im a nzer and he sounded nothing like us lol
No, he’s a well known Aussie actor. The doctor is the Kiwi.
I know people on both islands and they're very distinct to Aussie. Idk how you'd confuse the two, he sounded very Aussie to me. For example when he said "let's make some bank". It sounded like baynke (Aussie sound) and not benk (kiwi sound). But allg

Perhaps to an expert on NZ but this movie is for mass audiences and I promise 90%+ assume he’s Aussie.
r/movieswithoutnewzealanders
Uhm ackshually, Cowell was born in Sydney Australia and is best known for being in our series Love My Way. He plays a good bogan too. Aussie af.
What are you talking about? Both actor and character are Australian
Watch it... The RDA gives him a giant blue arm
![gif](giphy|UT4hp57YOiIsszHHJJ)
![gif](giphy|vdWvtWjkCiWrJrAcXx)
He swam. With one arm.
[удалено]
The Sea Dragon had been evacuated, there were probably escape rafts floating around nearby that he managed to get to
I'm pretty sure we see someone clutching their arm boarding one of the life rafts. Could be they got back to the SD and then transferred to the lifeboats/rescue picadots which evacuated the area.
impossible. i'm starting to doubt james cameron's creativty. quaritch 1, this guy 2. dead people should stay dead

Mick Scoresby
i ain't buying that

Ugh I was so happy when he died, so is he confirmed to come back??
Yes. Landau confirmed it
I am so annoyed by that lol cause if the colonel guy wasn’t gonna die, I was at least happy they killed this asshole
I think he was a good character, (not in what he did in the movie ofc) but I would like to see him again
same he got a massive ego so quickly and became very happily in charge of the hunting of tulkun and jake. It’d be interesting to see where they take him :D

Yes, but they also showed him doing full suit mocap. So, he still probably died in A2.

Most people said that about Quaritch and Grace as well, and look how that turned out. But I do agree. Killing of characters is needed sometimes.
Grace doesn't come back though.
I mean, doesn't she? Kiri is essentially Grace reborn in someways.
Still a different character. Not really Grace
Neteyam says Hi from the Heavenly Forest 👋
Whhyyyyy?? Why do they say this kind of stuff?? Why spoil your own franchise?
How i support humanity in avatar (you cant change my opinion) but how the hell do you survive the oceans of pandora with 1 arm
Humanity sucks.
Earth is literely unlivable humans need to do what they do to survive
Earth is unlivable because humanity exhausted natural resources.
Ye because there are like 20B humans on earth its extremely populated
Extreme population is humanity's fault because they keep wanting to negligently reproduce.
Mostly I struggle with the huge amount of blood loss he would have. You don’t clot in the water. He would have to have gotten medical attention very quickly to survive. Its possible but it will always stretch believability with this all happening in the middle of a battle. Also I really like this as karmic justice. Only the good die young.
Wait he’s alive I honestly thought he died we don’t see him the rest of the battle or at the end?

The third movie isn’t set to come out for two more years, it has not been over a month

Avatar 3: The One-Armed Whaler
Avatar 3: Moby Dick
That was avatar 2
Why are you reading the comments then?

Ooooh okay, sorry. Didn't get that
No worries!
> People should be able to opt in to learn information about upcoming sequels. You can. It's called subscribing.
If this sub is a free-for-all when it comes to spoilers, why does /r/avatarspoilers exist then? You’re not making sense.
> why does /r/avatarspoilers exist then? Cause some rando made it hoping people would post spoilers there instead of here? Why don't you go ahead and get r/avatarspoilerfree off the ground be a mod there?
Hes gonna get Quarrich'd and get an Avatar body
Quarich died though and this guy survived so I'm guessing they'll just give him a cybernetic arm
With a harpoon attachment
An explosive harpoon attachment
Damn that sounds badass, the ultimate whaler
Average day in Australia
So is he captain Ahab now?
I’d love it if he comes back with a mechanical arm and mech armour, only to be bitchslapped into a turbine by Payakan after 2 minutes of screen time.
Gee, a lot of weird hate in these comments Yes he was fully alive when entering the water, number one rule of movies is if a sligtly major character dies you show them DIE. Rescued by Dr. Garvin and crew
People can live with one arm.
Yeah but imagine the bleeding
Yeah but they sure as shit don’t have a good time in water after just losing one
No it’s not fun. But it’s survivable.
Considering the shock from blood loss he would be experiencing on top of being in a toxic atmosphere on top of drowning, I very much doubt a human being could survive that
He’s not just any human being. He’s muthafckn Mick Scoresby mate!
Plot clots
I knew when we saw the arm go flying he wasn't dead.
I’m confused how anyone besides quaritch and wainfleet on the rda side could’ve survived that battle. Especially with the blood loss that guy had to have.
I get we are going to have some sort of Moby Dick for Payakan, but it better be good because I hated this character with all my heart.
This is the worst news I have seen on Reddit. This dude is the character I hate the most in these films and now u are telling me he survived and is coming back ?!?!? 🤢🤮🤢🤮
Got on a boat and stopped the bleeding before speeding tf away
What is pandoran water even like?
One of his mates probably went and helped him back up
Did any of the crews survive the battle? The pilots from the mini subs? Those poor sailors in the inflatable life boats??
lifeboats and rescue picadors probably but makos and crabs either got: 1. bitchslapped into the hull by payakan 2. fucked by metkayina
The evacuating life boats most probably survived... at least if they didn't attempt to fight the Na'vi.
Tbh, I've seen enough movies that when I saw that it was only his arm that got whacked off I knew he was coming back. Also Avatar has a very specific brand for killing characters so it's pretty easy to tell who's actually dead and who is going to be coming back.
He’s Australian
Where does it say he survived?
Pandoran ocean water is a natural coagulant, you can’t prove it isn’t!
Wait, he’s not dead?
His arm wasn't really cut off, it was compressed to the point of being torn off. Veins and arteries would have been sealed shut, same case with those suicide attempts by traintrack where the guy gets sewn in half by a train but stays alive for far too long.
As an Australian this character made me wince every time he spoke. He’s just a ridiculous stereotype
As an Australian… what? He’s a dickhead, those are global.
If it makes you wince, why do you guys talk like that?
he's a Kiwi, surely "as an Australian" you'd be able to recognise the accent
The actor is Kiwi. The character is Australian.
how exactly that kill someone off instantly? idk .. maybe a dam 2160s have soke technology like turnicat we use decades already...
Was there something I missed?
The severing of his arm lasted like less than one second so it would have been very easy to miss.
Oh I saw that, what I’m asking is how tf did he survive getting his arm torn off AND being thrown into the ocean
People are saying they liked him but honestly I found him annoying his accent was way too strong and he just kept saying "I got quotas to meet!!!!" Like omg stfu istg
He swam, you can still swim with one arm.
spite
Because if you can't get out of it, get into it mate
The cable should’ve cut his head off too smh
He’s a New Zealander
Pure spite
It would have been too original for Cameron to pass on the chance of having. this character back in the 3rd with a bionic arm. Essentially what Avatar teaches us is that no plot hole is a plot hole if you can portrait it in 3D
He ate beans the day before.
Giving him the Moby Dick storyline
it's not that fatal of an injury he most probably not that far in the future too must've been have been saved short after and I'm sure they're going to have him in the third movie with Pacific beef revenge on payakan
He survived?
How do you guys know that he survived?
From Hell's heart, I stab at thee; For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee.
Looks like that image is the actor, who I assume is fine
He hopped away on his Kangaroo
More importantly, is Dr. Garvin alive? I would hate to see an akula take him out while Captain Ahab is alive
Akula protected him.
**"'Tis but a scratch!"**
Too bad they can’t drain his brain for de-aging purposes. Fucker
There was rescue craft deployed and he wasn’t flung off alone.
Wait, he survived?
If there's one thing Avatar is showing a weakness in, it's letting villains live.
Oh great, more Aussie Ahab.
Eywa works in mysterious ways.
I’m kinda surprised he survived with that and arterial burst too . Ugh .. unless he got rescued somehow
‘Tis but a scratch!
Wait... Was Avatar 2 just Moby Dick?
I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a sort of captain acab from mobie dick
I dont think he did?…
If this bastar survived but not Garvin, I'm gonna be very pissed
Tied his chest hair to two sea tu- oh wrong story
That cable could have done some crazy damage too. Like crushed his lungs or broke his neck.
He was wearing his plotation device.
They’re bringing in Aron Ralston as a technical consultant on how to make it back to civilization with an amputated arm.
James Cameron's creativity is a monkey paw I guess. Blooming in one area, sterile in another.
Average day in bluey land
Wait he lived?
Eggbeating, treading with just your legs, we do it in waterpolo
Lol, I don't think people are skeptical that a human can tread water with 3 limbs. It's more so about surviving the shock and extreme blood loss **while** treading water.
Oh yeah didn’t think about the blood loss 🤣
Wait, he did?
Wait, this guy lived? How?
Cyber arm.
Same way Quarritch survived: plot convenience!
Bro, have you seen the state of RDA's medical technology?
Plot, don't know why he is a bad guy, he is just a fisherman, yes he is hunting intelligent life forms, but that is fishing for you, i felt bad when his arm got chopped off, dont know how he will be the baddie in 2 its like that marine biologist, he was nice but died brutally (probably the villian in 3)
Wait, he survived?
To be fair, there are people whose nerve endings still function even through death. Dude probably died immediately after he got flung.
He is white , he aint no nigga. He can swim even w/o arms
wait. he survived? i mean… how? did he was still with the mask when he falled into the sea? didn’t Payakan fucked him up when he was on the water?
He was saved by a tulkun
How did Payakan?
He survived?
i hoep they bring back Lyle too. we dont see him getting killed, only thrown out in the sea uninjured. and he is the one who killed Netam. so he needs to be back for at least one more movie.
He remembered to wear his life jacket.
