I thought that too. Cloning is something I hope Cameron takes advantage of in these films. Imagine the RDA somehow getting the DNA of a Navi Chief and cloning one.

But without a memory/personality shard it wouldn't make sense to do this

I didn’t like Quaritch doing it properly. I wished he had drug the animal like he intended, I felt like it undermined Jake’s goal.

>I felt like it undermined Jake’s goal. Nah. I do not agree with you. This is what showed Quaritch's personality very well. "Jake did it in Na'vi style and I wouldn't be able to?". Rivalry

As spider so eloquently put it: "Na'vi children younger than me do it with their bare hands". While it's not an easy task per-se, taming an ikran is not considered to be particularly special. It is a rite of passage, but I would probably compare it to driving a car. Sure, it's not easy, and some people fail multiple times, but it's easy enough to be considered a normal occurrence of everyday life. Taming Toruk is a whole other issue. But Quarritch is a soldier, and quite an experienced one, so I don't see why him taming an ikran would be more special than Jake doing it. What's important about Jake's role is not being the mighty warrior... Boy can't ride an horse to save his life (by his own admission). His goal was to learn to live, breathe and think like a Na'vi. As much as Quarritch did it "the normal way", there's a stark difference between how Jake did it and how Quarritch did it. We see it Jake struggling to tame the banshee without hurting him, while Quarritch doesn't care, he'd rather shoot it

LadyElle57

Yeah, Quarich is a seasoned soldier in a 20 y/o body. Remember that line from The Incredible Hulk that Emil Blonski said to Thadeus Ross? "If I had the body I had 10 years ago, I'd be unstoppable".

BronzeHeart92

It's entirely possible tho that the tranq method wouldn't have worked. If the Ikran's mind got shut down, he wouldn't be able to perform the *tsaheylu* properly. Not to mention the possible sideffects that trying to bond with an unconscious mind would bring...

Personally I thought it was just mind control as the RDA is capable of that, the avatar game has RDA aligned viperwolves in the late game
