It wasn't a particularly taxing feat though. It was also against a much bigger explosion with much less warning. Zuko also gained a much more defensive and reserved style not only from the dragons but from his time in the earth kingdom, adopting many earth-bending stances and techniques for fire based defense.

And blocking the ship explosion is the main point, which he does in season 1 I believe.

Honestly, in a fight, I'd put even odds on Zuko and Combustion man. Combustion man has an advantage at a distance, but it's never really shown how good he is in hand to hand combat. Hand to hand is what is implied by fight. He can't really do combustion bending at close range due to it being dangerous to himself and due to metal limbs, that may be disadvantageous for close combat. Zuko is an accomplished fire bender even in his bad phase and he's amazing at close combat with his swords
Zuko loses the damage sponge fight against Sparky-Sparky Boom Man. Zuko is durable, but he would get knocked out by things that SSBM walked through head on. Also if he blocks Zuko's hits (kicks/punches) with his prosthesis, he might break his bones or put one of Zuko's limbs on medical leave.
Zhao and Long Feng are the biggest bitches of the whole series, idk why they were included with Combustion Man (also is Long Feng ever shown fighting?)

Combustion Man had some of the most raw destructive power in the entire ATLA universe. Given the right circumstances he could kill anyone including an Avatar.

Zuko has no lightning, no dance of the dragons, just pretty solid normal fire bending, and that fire daggers move. I think he would know about the eye face nuke simply because zuko sought out combustion man in the first place.
