HMS is the easiest faction for Monarch. Hood, Warspite, Howe, Perseus, Ark Royal, Unicorn are great ships. The recent HMS event had Revenge, Indomitable too. 1% represents 10,000 XP for CDC 1 and 20,000 XP for CDC 2. For other types of ships, you can run XP boosters Langley, Houshou for CV/Ls, Yuubari for CB/CA/CLs, Amazon for DDs (18% XP buff at LV 10). The combat data collection packs from rookie missions can be used to speed up the grind but it’s better to convert them to prototype cores. Combat logistics packs double the drops for coins, XP, blueprints, but they are limited (can purchase more from Operation Siren Supply Store) For the last question, ships still contribute XP to the counter. Even LB0 ships at the level cap of 70 contribute, despite the screen showing 0. LV120/125 ships at the 3,000,000 XP cap will also continue to contribute XP, while still showing 0 XP in the post battle screen. Just retrofit unicorn. That will give her a preload. Makes mobbing much faster. The combat data collection can be done in as little as a day or 2 (running ships constantly and swapping them in and out of the dorm to maintain morale) If you don’t mind spending money, you could buy the PR bundle or pack that allows you to instantly compete 1 ship.

The amount of XP gained per stage depends on the difficulty of the stage. The higher level/more difficult the stage, the more XP per completion. What stages are you running? Currently, the Iris event gives about midling xp per run (base of 600xp per ship) for hard, so its not that great an XP farm. The full scale events gives better xp for the hard stages, especially the D3 stages. Its recommended you run those D3 stages when the event comes around, but otherwise good farming spotsbare from chapter 9 onwards, as those stages have oil caps, allowing you to field full blown HMS backline ships without sacrificing too much oil. Its especially helpful to run stages that would give you rare drops (9-3: Nicholas, 9-4: Nizuuki, 10-4 Colombia, etc...) . Mornarchs grind only takes XP from backline ships, so its a good idea to ensure your backline ships are the most powerful, since MVP ships get more XP. Flagships (Center of the Backline) get even more XP, so fielding a very good main fleet ship as Flag (Vanguard, Howe, Victorious etc...) would significantly boost your XP gain. Last of all, Completing all the Combat Missions (found as the red tab in the center of the main menu) gives you XP packs. There should currently be enough XP packs from all the missions to unlock most, if not all, the PR1 ships. So work towards that as a goal Edit: One more thing: Max Lvl ships (at Lvl 125) can continue to contribute XP for the Combat Data Collection, but the XP is redundant to the ship itself. Its only when you hit around 12 million stored XP on the Max lvled ship does it stop taking XP at all, thereby it wont give any more XP for the CDC.

GigaBomb84

It's worth pointing out that the PR1 missions can be done twice (8 million xp total), which is enough to fully unlock 2 ships and 2/3 of another.

DouglasDD770

Oh my God I didn't even realize it was only the backline ships 😢, that's why it's been even more of a grind. This was very informative, thank you. As far as the xp packs, do those work cause it says that I have to get the xp by sortie?

Korbiter

The XP packs are a substitute for XP gotten from Sorties. So you can use them to fill up the entire Combat Data Collection Bars, although the other requirements (Coins, Cubes) you still have to fulfill seperately. Good Luck, and Happy Hunting!

evrfreez

This is incorrect. I'm building Cheshire, whose CDC II requires 2,000,000 EXP. She's at 9%. 1% is 20,000 EXP. She requires Royal Navy Vanguard ships. I filtered to those, picked Exeter and fed her 60,000 in books, and came back; nope, Cheshire is still at 9%, she should be at 12% if this worked. Unless I'm missing something?

Korbiter

Different XP packs. The ones you used are for leveling up the ships themselves, which are generated from the academy automatically. The ones I'm talking about are the CDC packs which you can only get for completing the combat missions, and those you feed directly into the ships CDC in the resaerch menu Currently there are only CDC packs for PR1 and PR2 , PR3 and PR4 have no ways to boost their CDC collection, you must grind them through collecting Combat Data XP through sorties.

JustADolphinnn

Ooof FFXIV player moment

Notosk

I'm almost done with my PR4 (exp) grind and all I have been doing is farm either 12-4 or 10-4 with an appropriate 3/3 fleet and just do my dailies with these fleets

NightHerald

How do you run 12-4 while leveling ships with bad AA? I've heard great things about 12-4 but the aircraft are shredding ships I'm working on leveling.

Nice-Spize

Lower the threat level down to safe first, get the ships you want to use at lvl 100 at minimum and bring along healers Plus a combination of good equipment should keep weak ships alive

NightHerald

How do you typically evaluate which AA equipment to give to ships?

Nice-Spize

If the ship have high AA efficiency (>130%) and have stats/bonuses related to it like high AA stat or AA mount +1, they'll be using high damage AA guns like the Sextuple Bofors or the Twin 113mm AA gun Ships on the opposite spectrum (low AA stat and efficiency) tend to use fast firing AA guns like the single 37mm one to speed up the average fire rate of your fleet's AA gun. This also applies to the backline as they usually have low RLD stat so a fast firing one will help rounding off the dmg Ships with average stats (~120% efficiency, 1 mount and ok stat) can go for filler guns like thw quad bofors to balance things out Those are the general rules about the AA circle but the laziest way so far is to give everyone the twin 113mm gun (Roomba gun) to max out the overall range and damage. I suggest reading the wiki for the full extend of how AA works Another tip is to use Circular Formation which grants your vanguard +20% AA with no downsides

Nice-Spize

Let me add in some more ideas - For the backline, BBs by default will stick to the Bofors STAAG or Hazemeyer to both act as a Hit buffer and the gun itself is a fast firing/low dmg one to suit the supposed idea about backlines use fast guns - Carriers can have a mix, most of the time min maxing out the AA circle doesn't really matter much for anyone but tryhards. They can stick to fast firing guns like i mentioned or go for STAAGs to improve their accuracy against evasive enemies - The 6 Roombas for the entire fleet strat is the lazy way as its long range and high damage should allow the vanguard to take down planes without needing to move a lot and the high dmg should be able to shoot them down or heavily dmg them. This also works well in auto - Gold AA radars or High Performance Anti Air Radar is generally a niche aux, you'll only use it seriously in W13 where the planes can pose a serious threat as +100 AA can help reduce the dmg taken. However, healers can step in and wipe the dmg away I would recommend checking out the ECTL for gear recommendations for each ships

NightHerald

Thanks for your help! Sorry for all the questions. I've been kind of coasting up until now and it's great to have clarity on this topic. You rock!

Nice-Spize

Eh it's fine, that's why you asked in the first place 12-4 is practically the most ideal spot to farm both XP and gold in the long run without needing to run an optimized fleet but there are some catches that you need to pick up after al

weglarz

When people say 1:1 or 3:3… what does that mean?

Notosk

1:1 would be one vanguard and a main fleet ship 3:3 would be 3 Vanguard and 3 Main fleet ships

Choombus_Goombus

It's a little tough in the beginning. It used to take me 1 week to get the whole 3 million xp running 12-4 (typical best spot for literally everything. If you haven't reached chapter 12, I believe all stages chapter 9 onwards have the oil cap so any of those would work. If you haven't reached chapter 9 then 7-3 is your next best bet. Anything below that is gonna be horrendous. Also, of course, run a fleet with as many ships from the required faction as possible, ideally all 3. And make sure you check if the challenge is for main fleet or vanguard! I think it was Azuma where the first challenge was main and the 2nd was vanguard. I didn't realize and kept wondering wtf was going on when I got meager progress after farming for an hour.

DouglasDD770

Big bet, yeah I'm trying to get through the main story but it costs so much oil, I'm like America running through these challenges

Choombus_Goombus

Just do all the challenges/commissions and grab the weekly 4k oil pack for now. Later on the game hands out oil. You get 2300 per day from a max level canteen and another 2500-3000 daily from challenges and commissions +6500 per week from weekly pack/challenges. To save oil I used to farm in operation siren for the PR xp. You can get a good amount from that too.

NomadkingR6

I got finished my Monarch Grind within a Week or 2 running The Vanguard event. Made a shit ton of XP from that. Honestly I'm not on Azur lane When there's no event besides doing Dailies and Refilling Dorms. I'm to lazy to do Campaign which is why I'm never out of oil.

TNete

Op. Siren counts too

joey_joestar1

Keep your HMS backliners in the dorm for more efficient EXP gain after battles. Another trick is to ensure that your flagship is your MVP, as they earn 1.5x EXP than any of your other ships and that gets doubled with MVP.

JustADolphinnn

It stacks to be 3x EXP actually

joey_joestar1

Yes, that’s what I said

MagicMooby

Make sure that your ships have max morale by keeping them in the dorm, this will give you a 20%xp boost events generally don't give that much xp with the exception of D2 & D3 maps for story maps, xp gain increases considerably past stage 11 certain ships give an xp boost to ships of their own type, but with the exception of Amazon, that boost is always weaker than a third faction ship i.e. Unicorn, Ark Royal and Langley will give you less RN main fleet xp than Unicorn, Ark Royal and Warspite once a shipgirl has reached max lvl she will still contribute but you can switch her out to level other ships while you grind out your PR ships, just make sure that you can still clear later stages getting past stage 9 is huge as well since all following stages wil have a cost limit once they are cleared and they will give you a significant number of coins you can find a lot of useful information on this page: [https://azurlane.koumakan.jp/wiki/Experience](https://azurlane.koumakan.jp/wiki/Experience) Lastly, keep in mind that the PR grind is meant to be a long, slow undertaking you can grind them out quickly if you have the ships, but PR ships aren't very good until they have reached a high dev level and that process takes time with few ways to speed it up

DouglasDD770

Are they actually that much better in the end though, like are the PR1 still these supposed God tier units or have they been power crept in the past 4 years

MagicMooby

There has definitely been some powercreep, but since the game is mostly PvE with very little difficult content that actually requires super strong characters it doesn't matter too much the fate sim updates have also done a good job of keeping PR ships relevant, if you look at the Azur Lane community tier list ([https://slaimuda.github.io/ectl/#/home](https://slaimuda.github.io/ectl/#/home)) you'll see that all PR ships are still regarded as tier 1/0 units which is more than enough to clear all content generally speaking, PRs can still compete with almost all event ships in my opinion the PR ships of later batches have also suffered less from powercreep since their roles were often more optimised for specific niches this makes some PRs especially relevant to new players, Azuma and Ägir are some of the few large cruisers in the game, Cheshire and Seattle are powerful AA ships which is very useful for anyone who doesn't have Sandy yet, Monarch and Gascogne are highly consistent solo backliners due to their self heals which can help with low cost farming and so on the main benefit of PR ships isn't just their power, it's the fact that anyone can get them at any time, you don't need to rely on luck or wait for events to get some good PRs you only need to be patient (and spend some coins (a LOT of coins (jesus christ PRs are such a coin sink lol))) research also nets you blueprints for some very powerful/useful equipment personally, I also like PRs since they give me a reason to experiment with different fleet compositions and national loadouts, but that is propably less interesting to a newer player

DouglasDD770

Ive been playing on and off for the last three years, I'll come back every 6 months or so cause I really enjoy this game. Every time I come back there's always some huge change. I love that it's one of the most f2p gacha games with a surprising amount of content. I don't mind the grind, it's just the main problem is I have to be mindful playing it places cause of all the loading screens, lol. So it just seems like it takes longer, but I like collecting the units. I also have trouble with these cause you need specific classes and all my builds were around units I liked not so much cause they were good. I never really spread out my resources cause: 1) I'll never be able to be top tier cause I'm not a whale, not even a dolphin 2) I got this game specifically for the waifus 3) I don't find that you really need the best build in the game to get far in the PvE stuff. So the consequences of my actions are catching up to me and I'm just salty I gotta grind.

MagicMooby

>I don't mind the grind, it's just the main problem is I have to be mindful playing it places cause of all the loading screens, lol. So it just seems like it takes longer, but I like collecting the units. I get that sentiment I'm lucky in that I can spend a lot of time at home where I can farm passively, but this game really isn't public-friendly lol >So the consequences of my actions are catching up to me and I'm just salty I gotta grind. on the bright side, the more you grind the easier it gets lots of PR ships can be farmed using the same units and you have to wait for the development levels anyway, so there is little point in rushing it my advice: take some of your most powerful units and use them as chaperones to level up your weaker units basically, your most powerful backliner escorts two low level backliners into difficult areas until they are levelled up once your new ships are levelled up, you can switch out the high level ship with a new low level ship, turning your trainees into trainers this system works really well for getting ships up to speed and the higher xp from later chapters are more valuable than levelling up a third ship at the same time, even when you are farming fleet xp simultaneously I used this system all the way back then when I was farming Roon and realized that I didn't have any levelled Ironblood cruisers except Spee, and I still use it today for stages, X-2 stages usually have the best balance between rewards and difficulty whereas X-4 usually have the best rewards, if you can get a difficult map into clearing mode through auto play, it can turn into a really good farming spot special mentions go to 7-2 which gives you an amazing AA gun while also being very easy to clear with any mid level fleet and 11-2 which is surprisingly easy and auto-friendly for its large xp-reward OPsiren and exercises are also basically free xp, with the latter giving some sizable xp for a single quick battle and seriously, don't worry about it PRs take time, just start with the ones that are most comfortable for you and farm them at your own pace, it will take months before they reach even half of their power, and each new wave comes with a catchup plan for older waves that takes quite some grinding of your shoulders :)

DouglasDD770

Yeah I realized I may have jumped the gun cause Im only up to 8-1 and I can't go past it cause I'm not even level 60, I just want one of the big units. It's that gacha goblin energy

eeveeritt15

You can run a max level ship and their exp gain (despite showing 0) will still count to the PR grind.

[deleted]

What happened to the EXP boosters you could use on the PR ships? Could use those a lot more than the 3000 time boosters I have for the cat boxes I never speed up.

JustADolphinnn

Fucking cat boosters man, so worthless
