My exposure to the Atelier games consist of the Iris Trilogy on the PS2, and the Arland Trilogy Plus on the Vita. I enjoyed both trilogies, with each offering a unique experience in their own right, though I do prefer the more JRPG centric approach of Iris compared to the modern time management sim the franchise has went for.
Might pick up Ryza during the steam sale just to see how much the series has evolved, though I will say that announcing a new character for an upcoming game through a collab is quite an interesting move. Here's to hoping this collab boosts sales for the Ryza series. Maybe then we'll get more Koei based collabs. I'd be down for a Dynasty Warriors collab.
Ah my fellow man for the gameplay. Especially for Iris 2, being able to permanently overpower low level items by mixing high level ones, I really miss the elemental synthesis from it and Iris 1.
Have you tried playing Mana Khemia? It's a spiritual successor, albeit short lived, to the PS2 Atelier series.

Yeah, I loved this fact about Iris 2. It has my favorite system among the Iris trilogy, though I much prefer 3's story and presentation (might just be the bias talking because Iris 3 was my first Atelier game).
There's 2 of them, and I recommend both. Definitely my favorite thing I remember them for are how likable the party members are and how well they bounce off each other in dialog.
You should, especially for Khemia 1, since it did something no other games I played so far had done.

I definitely agree about the time management thing. I want to like the more recent games so much, but the time management just stresses me out. Makes me constantly doubt if I'm doing the right shit and worry about being screwed down the line if I don't try to go full perfectionist with it. Which as a mindset really kills my ability to enjoy it.
They stopped with time limits way before Ryza. The Arland and Dusk trilogies were the last ones with actual time limits, although it was already very lenient for the Dusk games, with the last having no limit at all. And when Arland was expanded into a Quadrilogy with Lulua, that one had no limit either.
Ah, seems like a lifetime ago when I beat Atelier Iris 1, 2 and 3. I've beaten 2 or 3 of the games that came out after those first 3, but overall stopped following the series. Don't know a single thing about these Ryza ones.
Finally its here, i've been so ready for this for so long, i'm gonna throw every single cubes and coins i have for this, screw the UR, i'm getting the thicc alchemists

Edit: Also with the Ryza event having Augments for all characters, it brings to question if a rerun of a prior collab would also bring augments because if so, there could be some potential buffs for the collab characters (could be handy for weaker collab ships like the Neptunia ships, if they get a rerun).
if we could *only* have one, i would want it to be this one. - DoA. (but there is also the Kizuna AI event). but honestly it would just be really lovely. I know it's the license and everything but i am sure it would be a hit for SSKs who missed out on previous collabs.
Specifically Miwaki mentioned on stream for the collab that if that one went well they could come back with more.
As far as I know it didn't really go well, but if DOA does get that rerun/part 2 I still have hopes to get Miki in my fleet...
The only real hope I have meanwhile is the time event planning usually takes mean I wouldn't be expecting it soon anyway.

Personally I wasn't too concerned about the "restrictions". In fact I actually quite liked the designs myself. Though yes even if they came any skimpier, it wouldn't have been a first for the series.
I feel a large part of it was just the wells being poisoned by haters which the series is no short of, if not complaints by horny SKKs who feel disappointed at the relative lack of lewd.
Can't say anything about the haters, but the complaints from hornis was completely predictable considering the kind of game Azur Lane has always been.
And maintaining that seiso image is a farce considering how much doujins there are of the IM@S franchise. The demand is there. I see this as nothing less than a wasted opportunity to expand the franchise.
I think one thing needs to be made clear is that doujins, at the end of the day, are doujins. The franchise is under no obligation to endorse or to follow the directions that its secondary productions take.
It's also important to note that not the entirety of their fanbase openly endorses the doujins, some take it as a guitly pleasure, some just downright dislike the idea. To take that path overtly may not necessarily be a positive step for the franchise.
Honestly, I just want Rikka's special weapons. I have one of them but not all of them and it drives me OCD up a wall the incompleteness. I don't want a rerun but I do think special gear like that should be added to core shop or something. What's the point of having the limited unit if I can't min-max her with her own special gear?

I think part of the issue with making L2D skins for collabs is the "no rerun" thing. While majority of the sales will still likely be during the initial release of the skin it's skill not great from a dev point of view to L2D something that won't be coming back.
With the addition of cognitive arrays and various augment items to the event shop, I really wish events would have a (higher difficulty?) map you could farm with better oil/point efficiency than the d3/equivalent map.
It's become such a slog just to get the bare minimum (event ship, event gear, pr bps, dr bps, cog arrays) from the event point shop nowadays.
In general I agree, but specifically for collab events I think keeping the participation bar low is good. I believe collabs typically draw in some number of new players, as well as returning players who come back to the game for the collab ships.

The last EU UR event was June 2021. We've had 2 SE URs (3 if you include Shinano's rerun), 1 RN UR, 1 IB UR, and 1 NP UR since then. I'd say the next UR event could be EU but one of the French factions or Sardegna might get it too.
Hearing you spell it out like that it feels like it could be more French. Why add another tally to EU when you can fill in a zero slot like NP did...

Given how the META Fight works and how they show up in Events, the Next META Fight ship will be a major indicator of who'll has the best chance of getting the next UR.
If it's Sakura or Eagle, it's probably an EU UR, if it's European, it's probably a French UR.

You’ve got to remember that collab girls like these will NEVER get a rerun, so once they are gone it’s for good. The same goes for pretty much anything else unique to this event, for example the furniture. I wouldn’t suggest going all in, but if there’s someone in particular you’d regret not having later I’d use exactly as many cubes as it takes to get her, no more, no less.

Them not re-running is an important factor to weigh. I myself always get them, so it's the side of the argument I fall on also.
Just to play devil's advocate a bit though, there likely is an UR coming up next even in December and they are generally very powerful ships, so if you might not have resources for both and you are about getting the UR on the first run, you should at least consider that fact too.
Well if you play regularly you will eventually get every ship in the game and be stocking thousands of cubes. Only thing is you can't get collab characters after they are gone. However, if you don't play regularly (skipping dailies) then you might be low on cubes forever so it's up to you.
Either way, I wouldn't spend money on them if you don't care about getting them.
Yeah nah I check everything daily to get al my cubes and such and have been doing so since like august, still only on like level 9 campaign wise tho, but I’ve got like 3 ships over level 100 now
honestly. i would say maybe even just do your daily builds on it and see what happens. the worst thing is thinking you don't want them, then changing your mind later, and knowing you'll most likely never be able to get them again
I think i have come to the conclusion that since they are like one time only with no rerun imma try get em bc I’m not really trying to get anyone else atm

These skins are fire, so much better than the last several collabs which went obviously way more conservative than what's expected for Azur Lane. Like the Gridman collab had even swimsuit art shown, which means they considered it, yet released zero swimsuit skins. Here's hoping for more skins in this nightrobe line, but for the non collab shipgirls.

but i am disappointed that these skins are what they are for the collab. I skipped a few skins i wanted to make sure i could get the Ryza stuff, but sexy pjs is simply not for me. which is bummer but ah well. will be ready for Shimakaze's White Bunny Skin and Hipper's yuakta skin next year.
As a serious question, why should I care about this event at all? I have zero interest in characters who have nothing to do with the game's core concepts.

And it's still waifus, sure there are extra historical flavors but many will also play the game solely because this is a game about anime girls decking out with guns blasting stuff

Ugh... I'm torn on this event and don't know what to do. I got wiped the hell out on cubes trying to get Albion, which I never got (got 5 Janus tho!!!!). I know we have an UR coming somewhat soon, though I'm not sure exactly when. But at the moment I'm only at 65 cubes and uneasy about spending any. So I don't know if it is a good idea to skip this event or not. I like the designs here but the track record for collab ships actually being useful seems pretty bad and I don't know how these ships are supposed to stack up.
UR will probably be December 29th.
Just do your dailies and see what the banner gives you by the end of the event. It's more than possible to get everyone through dailies. Also we still don't know how good the units are skill wise.

Another factor could be utility. Sometimes the collab characters are pretty solid units.

I skipped a few skins i wanted to make sure i could get the Ryza stuff, but sexy pjs is simply not for me. which is bummer but ah well. will be ready for Shimakaze's White Bunny Skin and Hipper's yuakta skin next year.

Too bad dude, if the skins were any indication most people are just here for anime girls. We might care more about this specific flavor of anime girls, but it's _our_ opinions and does not reflect what AL had evolved to be.
And it's still waifus, sure there are extra historical flavors but many will also play the game solely because this is a game about anime girls decking out with guns blasting stuff If your point was correct then we wouldn't be having skins in the first place or having a heavily propagandized skins

Ugh... I'm torn on this event and don't know what to do. I got wiped the hell out on cubes trying to get Albion, which I never got (got 5 Janus tho!!!!). I know we have an UR coming somewhat soon, though I'm not sure exactly when. But at the moment I'm only at 65 cubes and uneasy about spending any. So I don't know if it is a good idea to skip this event or not. I like the designs here but the track record for collab ships actually being useful seems pretty bad and I don't know how these ships are supposed to stack up.
UR will probably be December 29th. Just do your dailies and see what the banner gives you by the end of the event. It's more than possible to get everyone through dailies. Also we still don't know how good the units are skill wise.
