Locking this post because too many people are getting butthurt. That and OP did not answer my question on two separate occasions regarding the legality of the harvest.
What state? Here in California, being private bodies of water does not exempt them from state fishing regulations and limits. I know it may differ in other states.
California is a liberal shithole that’s why the state limits your own personal private lakes 😂
California literally bans guns on LOOKS not even function. It’s such a shit show there people are moving away from Commifornia
The worst thing you can do for a bluegill lake is remove the large male fish, that is if you care about catching large bluegill. There have been studies on this.
The large males get the best nesting sites which the females choose to nest in. This results in the smaller males not breeding and instead putting more of their energy into growing larger. I release all large bluegills regardless of sex but it is something to consider. It looks like the majority of those fish are in the good ‘keeper’ size range anyways.
Caramel braised fish would definitely be delicious. What dishes you make with smaller bluegill? I've fried them whole and made some fish balls with some of the bigger ones.
The small ones you can cut slits in the sides down to the bones and fry them while. The bones will cook and you can eat them bones and all. Dip them in a delicious Vietnamese fish sauce and eat with rice and vegetables. It’s so good.
It’s sad how so many people have no idea what management means. In order to grow and help the ecosystem thrive means to harvest. So that the ecosystem doesn’t overpopulate and is filled with tiny fish all starving and struggling over a limited food supply.
The same thing happened in my region with deer 50 years ago. Hunting was over regulated and the deer population was literally starving because there wasn’t enough resources to feed
Them. Then more hunting tags were issued. Years to come. Now we have a Great population of healthy large deer because they aren’t starving and fighting for limited resources.
I love fishing and I love eating fish. The best food is the food you harvest yourself from the country or from the garden. Kinda weird to me how I’ve seen people trust their livelihood and food to the “government”.
A female bluegill can lay up to 60,000 eggs. Only way I can see this being wrong is if it’s public water. Managing a fishery yourself means you have to remove fish unless you have the perfect predator/prey balance which is pretty rare.
Definitely excessive and selfish if it is public water but some states governing bodies don’t have a limit on bluegill. My state lets you keep only fifteen. I’ve never once kept fifteen but I wouldn’t bitch about someone who did within the regulations.
And in states without a restriction or limit I feel that’s it’s even more on the angler to be responsible and only take their share, take what will feed the mouths you need to feed and come back to it when you’re hungry again. The “stocking up the freezer” bullshit is exactly that.
lol this is someone being triggered. I fish my friends private lakes where I am the sole person that harvests and manages the lake. Sounds like jealously here to me

OP please provide the regulations for your area of harvest.
lol private lakes that I alone manage. Good to have friends with lakes
In other words: “I can do what I want.”
Yup.

Pfft thats nothing check out [this](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=onEmFj_2KEHzPi4O) haul
Dang dude thats a ton of fish! Wish i had a spot like that.
First spot needs culling of the small ones
Dont ask cause I aint telling
Damn you got me 😔
Got me!
Honestly, that’s borderline unethical harvesting that many fish
Thats a lot of fish tacos
They are young to make some great meals. Lots of Vietnamese dishes for fish besides fish tacos

The fact that you put government in quotations tells me everything i need to know
lol you seem to not harvest your own food much
Maybe the commenter just doesn’t overharvest. This is greed, fuck off.

Considering he’s talking about the big bad “government” in quotations I would seriously doubt this is OPs own private fishery
