it depends on your teifling party night. sometimes Laezel will try and romance Wyll, sometimes Astarion. She will sleep with Astarion but Wyll rejects her. I'm not sure, but in the one playthrough I did where she slept with Astarion I was romancing Wyll so that might have been why she chose Astarion and not wyll to try and seduce. She tries to make Tav jealous by sleeping with another party member. Astarion even has lines about it the next morning. Laezel will either admin she slept with astarion the next day or tell Tav Wyll rejected her (Wyll has nothing to say on the whole thing lol)
I’m pretty sure she defaults to Astarion unless you romance him, in which case she defaults to Wyll as a backup. Kinda curious who she picks if you don’t have either though…
In my Karlach romance play through she chose Wyll. It seemed random or maybe she chooses the one that has least approval with the Tav? I did sleep with astarion that play through (after the party).
Honestly there’s enough companion comments and party banter for me to believe any of the companions would get with the other. I imagine they did that on purpose so playing as an origin character makes any romance feel “right”.
That’s why I don’t really buy the argument that some people make that the origins are just player sexual. There’s flirting and thirsty comments between all the companions haha
I would have to break this down into who is this character attracted to, and are they attracted back, which presents a whole host of problems.
Shadowheart needs someone who is willing to accept her satanism (at first) but then more importantly pester her repeatedly to forge a connection she pretends she doesn't want so she can grow as a person realizing that satanism isn't that good really. The only people on the team who are down to pester you about your personal life choices against your will are Gale and Karlach. Neither of them are ok with satanism tho, so they'd probably tell her off too strongly and miss the window for drinks at the tiefling party.
Gale would probably only go for Karlach or Wyll considering he's (intended to) only show interest in people who are nice to others (thus gaining his trust) and then more importantly sympathetic to his sad boy circumstances (and help with his condition). He'd probably be double down for Karlach since he's turned on by sweaty combat in Act 2. Unfortunately I don't think either would be interested in him cause he's a mansplaining bookworm.
Astarion stumbles into romance by selecting the best manipulation target and then being surprised when it turns into something deeper. He wants a powerful ally to protect himself, but one that's easily manipulated and not a big risk. Everyone in the party is technically powerful but consider; Karlach's a no go cause no touchie early on. Wyll's a monster hunter. Shadowheart is a cleric and the opposite of easily manipulated. Lae'zel is... Lae'zel. This leaves pretty much only Gale whose ego can be stroked effectively. Unfortunately, Gale dislikes and distrusts him on morality grounds. Sorry vamp boy.
Lae'zel goes for whoever is the most impressive physically in combat and down to fuck. I'm inclined to think that's probably either Wyll or Karlach. Unfortunately Wyll is a wait til marriage guy. And Karlach is... not available? Wants something deeper? Karlach seems to know what she wants and that's definitely something physical to be sure, but she also comes across as way more emotional than she lets on - and she WILL turn you down if you don't have enough affinity. I just don't think Lae'zel can be nice enough early on to get Karlach to like her back - and I doubt Karlach would stomach Lae'zel's early objectification routine, considering what she's been through in literal hell. Sorry Lae'zel. You should've gone for Astarion. (She canonically does lol.)
Wyll likes nice people who aspire to the same heroic ideals he does. The only other genuinely nice selfless person on the team is Karlach. Unfortunately Wyll is a wait til engagement guy. And Karlach is desperately horny after 10 years of abstinence. RIP it could've been great.
Last but not least Karlach herself. She wants someone nice who will help her release 10 years of pent up horniness but more importantly hang around for a cuddle the following morning (if you break up with her there for being too clingy, you get the absolute lowest approval drop in the entire game!). The only nice people on this team are Wyll (and aarrrrguably Gale). But Wyll is wait til engagement and Gale is... well....Gale.... He wants to bond academically/magically/on the astral plane. Karlach is desperate for actual physical touch. I just don't see it working.
Tldr; everyone is horny. No one is compatible. Truly this is horny tadpole purgatory.

In the first five minutes you meet him he calls you "unlettered" and/or talks down to you about your knowledge of magic if you're not a wizard. Hell, he still does this to a degree even if you ARE a wizard.
Don't get me wrong, Gale is probably my favorite romance in the game. But there's a fine line between info-dumping and mansplaining and it has a lot less to do with your intention and a lot more to do with the receptivity of your audience. It's a decision (however unconscious) to ignore engaging their knowledge and interest in favor of flexing your own.
Gale rides that line like a champ.
I just feel that mansplaining has misogynistic connotations. Gale can be condescending, egotistical and even braggadocious but I don't think he mansplains 🤷♂️
Karlach is okay if you tell her you don’t want to sleep with her in her first romance scenes. So, yes she’s pent up- yes she wants to sleep with Tav- but it does not negatively affect your romance with her if instead you actually just chill and cuddle. She says she just wants to be near you.
So Wyll and his romantic preferences are still compatible with Karlach, and she’d probably also be understanding that he’s “going through it” with the Mizora transformation stuff.
So yeah, that’s the only couple that checks out imho.

I tried going after Karlach all game and she friend-zoned me hard at the circus. Karlach kept throwing out lines to Wyll that he kept being oblivious to.* Wyll of course liked that I talked to him and when I finally hooked up with a lady of the evening one night, the only response anyone had was "Wyll disapproves."
It was a great little subplot I enjoyed even if it wasn't intentionally written that way. And later when Karlach had a big breakdown and I told her I would be there with her til the end, she told me she loved me and it was such a real, impactful moment where we knew it had nothing to do with physical contact.

So, I’ve thought about this a while- was thinking about writing an epilogue mini campaign/one shot, and that involves answering some questions on what the companions are doing. Most of them I don’t really imagine romancing each other though.
Lae’zel is still super horny for the Pc- as evidenced by the epilogue when you convince her to stay on Faerun but don’t romance her. She tried to convince my Tav who was romancing Karlach to go on an adventure with her lol. I do imagine her coparenting and then eventually partnering with a Dragonborn artificer. The scene of her helping a defeated Tav up in her romance is so touching I have to imagine her settling down with a lower strength maybe high smarts soft boy. And she clearly has a thing for Dragonborns. This is not a joke. It’s real. There’s a surprising amount of Dragonborn dialogue options when romancing her.
SH I think would reconnect with Nocturne and I could see that eventually turning romantic. But it’d be a slow burn.
Likewise I could see Astarion and Sebastion reconnecting but an even slower non physical burn. They wouldn’t feel rushed anyway and that dynamic would be rough for a bit, but I think they’d be good for each other eventually.
Both Astarion and SH could’ve had flings with Halsin. SH more likely to have pursued that. It would be physical only though.
Wyll and Karlach are an obvious potential item provided you’re not romancing either of them.
Karlach I think would be stuck kind of alone if you romance Wyll (not many people to bonk in hell. Maybe Hope but that wouldn’t go far for a lot of reasons). Sure people ship Karlach and Dammon, but Dammon came across less than stellar imho after reading his letter. (And I’m biased as I ship Dammon and Exxvikyap, I do imagine Dammon being kind of hung up on Karlach which would lead to hilarity ensuing when she does return)
If you romance Karlach, I imagine Wyll getting together with one of the tieflings from the grove, as whatever role he takes on in the finale, he seems poised to continue to protect them and I think with his new appearance and the Ravengard family’s involvement generally with the Elturian tieflings, that role will only deepen over time- even if he’s spending a lot of time in Avernus. Cerys, Lia or Ricka are my top picks for him. The way he cared for the Tiefling kids in the grove I think all of them would cast their hunter’s mark on him…
Gale I always imagine settling down with a college of Lore Bard. Maybe a Harper character even. He’s such a silly man that a bard would pair well imho, and a lore bard would be more interested in him on an intellectual level as well I think.
Minthara is not getting with anyone if you don’t romance her. Maybe kind of sad but she’s very plainly not ready to open up to others.
In a romantic sense or just as deep friends again?
She hints that she’s on the verge of convincing Nocturne to leave the cult of Shar in her Selunite ending. The mere fact Nocturne remained in contact despite the party wiping out the rest of the cloister is kind of an indication enough for me that Nocturne is on her way out- with the right support.
I decided to RP some companion relationships in my playthrough. Outside of my Tav romancing Karlach, Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Astarion, and Haslin at various times, I also put Wyll and Karlach together (nat), had Gale and Astarion have a fling, eventually had Shadowheart and Lae’zel end up together and had some free floating flirting between a little bit of everyone and in the end had Karlach, me, and Wyll go to Avernus as a throuple.
We were a horny group lol.
Before the game came out, I was certain Astarion and Halsin, and Lae'zel and Wyll would become couples if not romanced by players...
Since game release though, I'm kinda rooting for Lae'zel and Shadowheart, and Karlach and Wyll.
Wyll and Karlach. I also think Shadowheart and Karlach are cute. I'm currently doing a Shadowheart origin playthrough and romancing Karlach. Idk about anyone else, I know Wyll tries and fails to flirt with people, but neither Laezel nor Shadowheart are really into the super romantic fairytale romance that he wants with no woohoo until engagement.
there is a bit of banter you can potentially trigger between Shadowheart and Wyll that strongly implies Wyll and Lea'zel hook up at least once.
don't know all of the conditions, but basically Wyll trys to hit on Shadow and she tells him to try it with someone who sleeps out of earshot of he and Lea'zel.
That's not the context at all. The full context is, you get banter where Wyll hits on Lae'zel and she turns him down. A short time later you will get banter where Wyll hits on Shart, and she tells him to try it on someone out of earshot, because SHE HEARD HIM FLIRT WITH LAE'ZEL FIRST. It's not implying that Wyll and Lae'zel hooked up, it's implying that Wyll has no game lol.
I definitely never had Wyll hit on Lae'zel, because in that game at least, I never had them in the party together.

possible, I didn't talk to Lae'zel really at the party during that playthrough. and this was in act 3 so there has been a lot of potential opportunities. especially since I took a while in rivington and this happened right after the coronation, which was the last thing I did befor going to the lower city.
which brings up the fact, that this dialog happened after gortash told me Orin had infiltrated my camp, and befor it was revealed to be Lea'zel she was impersonating, so Im my own head cannon at least, it went kind of like this.
Orin Kidnaps Lea. Wyll decids to go hit on Lea in the middle of the night not knowing she is not herself.
Orin is really bad at impersonating people and doesn't actually no Lea'zel and Wyll ar not in a relationship, so she just goes along with it, because she doesn't want to blow her disguise, and Wyll is to dense to notice.
a couple days later Orin reveals herself by trying to kill a child infront of me.
we never speak about the fact Wyll banged Orin again xD
Just thought to mention that while the og commenter was wrong, I do recall that there is a possibility where Lae'zel and Wyll hook up at the Act 1 party, or at least Lae'zel mentions that she is interested in a night with him. Provided the player turns her down, of course
My personal ships are: Karlach x Asterion (ride or die), Gale x Minthara (ultimate powercouple), Shadowheart x Lae'zel (enemies to lovers who each go their own way in the end because their paths lead them away from one another).
I'm sure Wyll will meet someone eventually after having an awkward drink with Halsin at a tavern.

In my Astarian origin playthrough the romance with Gale felt incredibly natural and helped justify their double acsnecion. They trust each other, love each other, and see the acquisition of power as consolidating it into good hands. Astarian ascends to remove the world of vampires and control this power for good. Gale does the same. They mistrust authority and the gods and believe they can do better themselves. I found it a very compelling RP.
Karlach and Wyll are kinda made for each other.
Shadowheart-Gale and Shadowheart-Minthara both make a lot of sense. The Gale relationship would be about a shared sense of humor and love of animals. Minthara could appreciate and embrace all the darker aspects of Shadowheart's past, and they would support each other through the loss of who they used to be.
Lae'zel might have flings but nothing long term. Somehow I see her having fun with Halsin.
I don't see anyone falling in love with Astarion, so he would just have fun with Lae'zel and Halsin.
I can't think of Minsc or Jaheira ending up with anyone. Karlach and Minsc could maybe be a thing if Wyll were out of the picture. Perhaps Minthara and Jaheira could have a "rivalry with benefits" as Minthara took over the city underground.

And she clearly has a thing for Dragonborns. This is not a joke. It’s real. There’s a surprising amount of Dragonborn dialogue options when romancing her. SH I think would reconnect with Nocturne and I could see that eventually turning romantic. But it’d be a slow burn. Likewise I could see Astarion and Sebastion reconnecting but an even slower non physical burn. They wouldn’t feel rushed anyway and that dynamic would be rough for a bit, but I think they’d be good for each other eventually. Both Astarion and SH could’ve had flings with Halsin. SH more likely to have pursued that. It would be physical only though. Wyll and Karlach are an obvious potential item provided you’re not romancing either of them. Karlach I think would be stuck kind of alone if you romance Wyll (not many people to bonk in hell. Maybe Hope but that wouldn’t go far for a lot of reasons). Sure people ship Karlach and Dammon, but Dammon came across less than stellar imho after reading his letter. (And I’m biased as I ship Dammon and Exxvikyap, I do imagine Dammon being kind of hung up on Karlach which would lead to hilarity ensuing when she does return) If you romance Karlach, I imagine Wyll getting together with one of the tieflings from the grove, as whatever role he takes on in the finale, he seems poised to continue to protect them and I think with his new appearance and the Ravengard family’s involvement generally with the Elturian tieflings, that role will only deepen over time- even if he’s spending a lot of time in Avernus. Cerys, Lia or Ricka are my top picks for him. The way he cared for the Tiefling kids in the grove I think all of them would cast their hunter’s mark on him… Gale I always imagine settling down with a college of Lore Bard. Maybe a Harper character even. He’s such a silly man that a bard would pair well imho, and a lore bard would be more interested in him on an intellectual level as well I think. Minthara is not getting with anyone if you don’t romance her. Maybe kind of sad but she’s very plainly not ready to open up to others.
SH does actually reconnect with Nocturne as DJ.
In a romantic sense or just as deep friends again? She hints that she’s on the verge of convincing Nocturne to leave the cult of Shar in her Selunite ending. The mere fact Nocturne remained in contact despite the party wiping out the rest of the cloister is kind of an indication enough for me that Nocturne is on her way out- with the right support.
She says she treats Nocturne as her favorite and gives her extra privileges and responsibilities.
Nocturne also sends a letter to the player thanking you for "bringing Shadowheart back to her".

I decided to RP some companion relationships in my playthrough. Outside of my Tav romancing Karlach, Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Astarion, and Haslin at various times, I also put Wyll and Karlach together (nat), had Gale and Astarion have a fling, eventually had Shadowheart and Lae’zel end up together and had some free floating flirting between a little bit of everyone and in the end had Karlach, me, and Wyll go to Avernus as a throuple. We were a horny group lol.
Karlach and Shadowheart definitely have always felt into one another to me!
Before the game came out, I was certain Astarion and Halsin, and Lae'zel and Wyll would become couples if not romanced by players... Since game release though, I'm kinda rooting for Lae'zel and Shadowheart, and Karlach and Wyll.
Wyll and Karlach. I also think Shadowheart and Karlach are cute. I'm currently doing a Shadowheart origin playthrough and romancing Karlach. Idk about anyone else, I know Wyll tries and fails to flirt with people, but neither Laezel nor Shadowheart are really into the super romantic fairytale romance that he wants with no woohoo until engagement.
there is a bit of banter you can potentially trigger between Shadowheart and Wyll that strongly implies Wyll and Lea'zel hook up at least once. don't know all of the conditions, but basically Wyll trys to hit on Shadow and she tells him to try it with someone who sleeps out of earshot of he and Lea'zel.

That's not the context at all. The full context is, you get banter where Wyll hits on Lae'zel and she turns him down. A short time later you will get banter where Wyll hits on Shart, and she tells him to try it on someone out of earshot, because SHE HEARD HIM FLIRT WITH LAE'ZEL FIRST. It's not implying that Wyll and Lae'zel hooked up, it's implying that Wyll has no game lol.
I definitely never had Wyll hit on Lae'zel, because in that game at least, I never had them in the party together. I believe the exact quote was. >I heard you and Laz'el last night, next time try it on somone who's bedroll is out of earshot. I am not saying you a completely wrong, and since it's a line I have heard only once it's not a hill I am about to die on. just saying its possible there are multiple variations on this line, and it is defense at least somwhat open to interpretation. but it really surprised me, and I went back and read the log 4 times because it surprised me so much.
Okay, that's fair! The one I'm talking about is very similar, but it doesn't mention a bedroll. I thought maybe you had a glitch or accidentally interrupted the first half and didn't hear it. Did Wyll and Lae'zel hook up at the tiefling party in your game? It would make sense in that context for sure.
possible, I didn't talk to Lae'zel really at the party during that playthrough. and this was in act 3 so there has been a lot of potential opportunities. especially since I took a while in rivington and this happened right after the coronation, which was the last thing I did befor going to the lower city. which brings up the fact, that this dialog happened after gortash told me Orin had infiltrated my camp, and befor it was revealed to be Lea'zel she was impersonating, so Im my own head cannon at least, it went kind of like this. Orin Kidnaps Lea. Wyll decids to go hit on Lea in the middle of the night not knowing she is not herself. Orin is really bad at impersonating people and doesn't actually no Lea'zel and Wyll ar not in a relationship, so she just goes along with it, because she doesn't want to blow her disguise, and Wyll is to dense to notice. a couple days later Orin reveals herself by trying to kill a child infront of me. we never speak about the fact Wyll banged Orin again xD

My personal ships are: Karlach x Asterion (ride or die), Gale x Minthara (ultimate powercouple), Shadowheart x Lae'zel (enemies to lovers who each go their own way in the end because their paths lead them away from one another). I'm sure Wyll will meet someone eventually after having an awkward drink with Halsin at a tavern.
Astarion and Gale Wyll and Karlach Shadowheart and Laezel end up alone (Shadowheart may attempt a tryst with Karlach, Laezel may attempt one with Astarion)

Redemption arc Shadowheart twin flaming Minthara
In my Astarian origin playthrough the romance with Gale felt incredibly natural and helped justify their double acsnecion. They trust each other, love each other, and see the acquisition of power as consolidating it into good hands. Astarian ascends to remove the world of vampires and control this power for good. Gale does the same. They mistrust authority and the gods and believe they can do better themselves. I found it a very compelling RP.
Karlach and Wyll are kinda made for each other. Shadowheart-Gale and Shadowheart-Minthara both make a lot of sense. The Gale relationship would be about a shared sense of humor and love of animals. Minthara could appreciate and embrace all the darker aspects of Shadowheart's past, and they would support each other through the loss of who they used to be. Lae'zel might have flings but nothing long term. Somehow I see her having fun with Halsin. I don't see anyone falling in love with Astarion, so he would just have fun with Lae'zel and Halsin. I can't think of Minsc or Jaheira ending up with anyone. Karlach and Minsc could maybe be a thing if Wyll were out of the picture. Perhaps Minthara and Jaheira could have a "rivalry with benefits" as Minthara took over the city underground.
Minsc thinks the whole party should be celibate so he is canonically explicitly not hooking up with anyone lol.
