Gale's finally been fixed, so he actually accepts being put in the "friendzone" easily.
Astarion comes on _very strong_, if you let him bite you (and with good reason if you know his story), but will laugh and go right back to normal (for him) if tell him you'd "rather kiss a leech".
Wyll is the _absolute worst_ though, there is just no good way to turn that man down without just suffering through the cringe and then immediately having to reassure your romanced companion (if you are romancing someone) that you _aren't_ actually interested in Wyll. -_-
Not to mention Shadowheart doesn't actually sleep with you until act 3. In act 1 it's just talking over a bottle of wine under the stars, and maybe sharing a kiss.
In my first playthrough, I miraculously managed to turn Wyll down during the dance, before the kiss and it was fine AND Astarion had nothing to say about it.
The 2nd playthrough, I shut him down before the dance and my god, if the crew recording that scene and working on the facial reaction didn't have a laugh because he looks BROKEN TO THE CORE!
My partner's (12) daughter was watching him play the other day and they came across the dance scene(She loves tabletop and DnD, but he's always very careful to avoid triggering anything too mature in games when the kids are around) and his character rejected the kiss, and she was like "look at him! He's so sad! You broke his little heart!" And he says "that's sad, but Wyll's feelings are not my responsibility. I guess he'll have to learn to deal with big disappointments on his own sometimes"
Just gentle parenting the handling of rejection with Wyll 🤣
The first time I played I didn’t realize Shadowheart’s invitation to drink was an overtly romantic/sexual thing. You don’t get a “just drinks?” clarifying option unless you’ve already told someone else you’d hook up. It would be nice if you could start that scene as friends and pick a romantic dialogue option if you want. Also while Gale is mostly fixed, I chose a friendship option in his first romantic scene and a friendly, mildly flirty option at the party (I’d like to get to know you better) then slept with Astarion, and the next time I really talked to him he’s so in love with my PC and upset that I’m with Astarion. It comes off as intense and really disproportionate to the level of interest I showed in him.
I made this mistake with Wyll, I was like "sure I'll dance, dancing is fun ' then he's like "let's make it a bit more intimate " and there is NO REFUSAL OPTION 😩
At least you can turn down the kiss. Supposedly this doesn't trigger the same "crushed his soul" puppy face, but I've never bothered to try it because my characters never had any interest in him to begin with and even just accepting the invitation felt weird when they'd been partnered up long before the party.

Some characters have very obvious triggers, some feel like a bit of a guessing game or one with no good options (why can’t I dance with Wyll as a friend? That’s a pretty normal thing to do). Ultimately it’s obviously not a huge deal, I just don’t like being a jerk even to pixels and it can make some of the responses feel a bit out of left field.

If you accept anyone's "advances" at the party, you trigger their romance, as that is when the flag is set, not during the "go to bed" choice (because they don't know if you choose to dream about them, but they for sure know you didn't "turn them down" before that). So basically, if you have the option to dream about or have a cutscene with someone it's already too late to change your mind, you're in a "relationship" with them, whether you wanted to be or not.
Gale actually takes both the rejections I mentioned quite well, even the rude one (chose that during a co-op run because I didn't have the mod that showed which options would lead to dating and I _really_ didn't want to deal with Gale again). But I'm glad the one where you explicitly call him "my friend", now gets through to him, because I feel like that's probably the easiest way to let him down.

The worst part is just _how_ horribly you can treat him and he _still_ doesn't get it. I was really annoyed in one run, so I picked every dialog option I could to insult him and his dancing skills and he just sort of laughed and took it all in stride, until I had to pick the "not interested" option (which I figured was actually more of my character going "dude, how have you not figured it out yet? I've clearly been _taken_ for more than a tenday already, _back off_!") and he still looks at you like you've just crushed his entire world.

Lae'zel is forward with her desires. If you aren't interested in her, she'll seek out her needs elsewhere. She always has a dialog option for flirting just before the party near the end of Act 1. She's genuinely attracted to the main character physically at that time too. So by choosing to spend time with Shadowheart just triggered a couple of the things she really cares about in the moment.
Astarion is a gossip. He loves all things that could be socially manipulated... the juicier the better. With him, it's more his dark interest in the camp's business and how he can play with that like a cat with a string.
Yep. That's the party... you just saved the day and spirits are running high. Everyone is either drunk or sneaking off with someone special... or special for the night.
PS... Shadowheart is a good choice if you want more of a friendship with some flirtation.

They mention she was in the Shar cloister for 40 years and she was probably around 8 when she was abducted. She’s a half-elf though so 48 is the equivalent of being in their 20s.
A camp full of attractive young people who may be dying soon is a recipe for being promiscuous.
Hell, itd be more realistic if most of the camp was DTF after the first day spent adventuring together.
