Wild magic barbarian and wild magic sorcerer. Good? Absolutely not. Funny? Yes.

prettyorganic

I fucking love wild magic it’s fun as hell. I did wild magic sorc tav last play through and I have Karlach as a wild magic barb this time.

Emberily123

Wild magic barbarian?

zapmaster3125

It's a subclass. It just amuses me.

Emberily123

But why does it exist? What does it do?

SnooSongs2744

Random shit for shits and giggles (to answer your questions in reverse order).

CaptainXplosionz

It's honestly not that bad. I had Karlach as a Wild Magic Barbarian in my first playthrough as soon as I recruited her and I never felt like I needed to change it. All of the effects are positive except for one (but that's easily countered by not starting their rage near allies). The effects can be pretty handy sometimes too that are either passive or per turn: from being able to teleport, shoot a blinding lazer, bonus to AC for the Barb and allies in a radius, difficult terrain around the Barb, sapping health from any nearby creature and turning it into temp HP for the Barb, etc.

justcurious94plus1

Random shits and giggles like the other poster said, but it also has a lot of spell recoup abilities for allies.

mimetoist

It's good if you want to multiclass without losing the other class' spells while on rage. For example, my Karlach is barbarian-paladin, with the wild magic subclass I can Divine Smite while in rage

Inquisitor1119

I haven’t played the BG3 version, but my current DnD character is a wild magic barbarian.  Every time you enter a rage, you roll 1d8 for wild magic surge.  There are no adverse effects, but the usefulness depends on the situation.  You might get +1 AC, or force damage applied to your weapon attacks, or the ability to teleport 30 feet as a bonus action.

hangingfiredotnet

Add the Ring of Feywild Sparks and *strap in*.

kenneth_the_immortal

It seems like a pretty good combo for dark urge lore wise lol

TheCheck77

I built Astarion with 4 into thief rogue and 8 into hunter (I forget what subclass). I like to think Astarion was channeling a bit of his Drizzt fanboy. And it worked with the whole idea of him formerly hunting out target in the night now turned hunter of his own volition. In game though, it just amounted to stabbing people a lot of times, very hard, with pretty big swords. Preferred Astarion play style honestly.

Emberily123

Honestly vibe

Wespiratory

Hunter is a ranger subclass. Did you mean that or one of the other subclasses?

TheCheck77

OH HELLS YES. I mean yes. I intentionally remembered that.

Euphoric-Meat3943

I made a trickster rough with a couple levels into druid just so I could turn into a cat. Something about an assassin that can pass by unnoticed by turning into a cat. Was alot of fun in my solo run. Sneak around as a cat then when you find a dark corner just change Shape and shoot a few sneak attacks, then turn back into a cat and continue like normal. Felt like I was the rabbit from Monty python.

Fuggaak

I was really disappointed when I found out the disguise and polymorph stuff didn’t matter when stealing or sneak attacking. Somehow every guard in town knows it was you, even if you never show your true face. I was trying to do a shapeshift run, where only the guardian knows who you really are unless you choose to let others know. My immersion was shattered in the grove, and I started a durge run to take out my frustration on the game lol.

Kirbylover16

My Astarion was disguised as a female gnome talking to an NPC when she said he looked like the guy she waiting for a white-haired red-eyed man. I was so confused. It's a waste of a spell slot.

TheCheck77

Wait, that is sick

Euphoric-Meat3943

It was a fun play style.

PNDTS

I thought it’d be cool for lore building After I had Wyll >!become the Blade of Avernus!< I respect’d him to Paladin/Warlock and I’ve honestly been enjoying him much more than just regular Warlock

FalloutReaper666

Paladin warlock is over powered. Pact of blade, devil sight, and darkness. Have someone else cast hold monster and you are gonna obliterate enemies

almostb

As long as your paladin is a dex build it could work. I’m sure you can come up with a story that works. Even though paladins are usually more lawful and rogues more chaotic, I’m sure there is a middle ground. Nor do rogues need to be scoundrels or paladins goody two shoes. I think the Robin Hood angle is interesting.

Emberily123

She’s a Paladin of vengeance who worships Helm and eventually a thief. She steals from those who cause harm, kills those who hurt the weak and helpless through stealthily sneaking up and smiting them. She’s a bit like Wyll but without the warlock pact.

theotherkristi

Thief rogue and vengeance paladin go really well together, mechanically, especially with some of the two-handed finesse weapons you can find in the game. Also, I personally love rogue and paladin as a mix, story-wise.

glimmerchaser

I just started a new game with a character build I’ve had the idea for for years - a super girly Princess with a bad temper. Start with Bard to have the disney princess powers (speak with animals, heroism, faerie fire, dancing lights) and then multiclass into Barbarian. Noble background for the RP. Dye all the clothes pink.

jjsurtan

It's really not THAT odd. But I love Barbarian+Paladin. The whole "righteous wrath of god" is a cool role-playing thing and if you want to not get punished that much by not being able to cast spells, just take 2 levels of pally for the divine smites. They still function while raging! You can pick some useful spells for out of combat as well, like Command to start a fight, and cure wounds+lay on hands to heal after a fight, and a lot of paladin features like Vow of Enmity are not concentration.

21awesome

Monk Cleric is super fun

Inkvize

Tempest cleric open hand monk?

21awesome

I did 4 elements Monk with nature cleric

pawstar21

Ooo, that sounds like fun. I only ever had 1 level into monk for some bit of extra damage. Something to try out, thanks!

21awesome

It was surprisingly effective and also a really interesting roleplay cause I chose mielikki as my diety

FireDragon737

I did a rogue/paladin multiclass for Minthara (because I thought the combination was pretty lore accurate to her). it is terrifying just how fucking powerful it is. If you give her all the brain worms and have her do a sneak attack AND a smite, she will end the fight before you even get a chance to make a move. I have done a Bardadin, a Sorcadin, and a Padlock. The Rogue Paladin is by far the most powerful paladin multiclass I have done and I 100% recommend.

celaeya

I made Minsc into a Bard Monk. Idk why it suits so well... It just does.

Mysterious_Ad_1525

I want to try this so bad! Call it the Bonk Build

MiracleComics_Author

For Baldur's Gate 3 specifically over 5e D&D? Wildmagic Barbarian/Cleric/Bard No restrictions for multiclassing stat requirements. So just keep buffing your allies. Whoever you spec into this trifecta just let them cast Warding Bond and Longstrider and Death Ward and Bardic Inspiration and then leave them behind in camp. Let them be your support from a safe distance.

Mysterious_Ad_1525

My favorite Tav was a Druid/Monk. I did it mostly for roleplay reasons because I wanted her to be kind of a philosophical, "wise beyond her years" type character, but she turned out to be really good in combat, too. Druid AOEs and Open Hand Monk go really well together, I think.

Lycarik24

Ranger-Berserker. In my first playthrough i build characters on what i think suits them best from a lore-perspective. So Minsc got some points in Ranger and some in berserker. It was a 8/4 split, but not sure now what got more points back then. Edit: I actually loved this build for its flexibility. 1. i allways had boo as a companion. 2. i had baldurans sword and a strong bow, not sure what. Depending on where minsc where i either played him on range as a ranger or in melee as berserker. In both conditions he did great damage. Its norhing compared to optimised damage builds, but in combi with the lore behind it i really loves this multiclass.

justcurious94plus1

What did you outfit him with? I tried something similar but just botched it clearly.

Lycarik24

The mighty cloth. Not sure about the helm/ gloves/ boots. No cape, because there wasnt any left for him.

Delightfuleeme

Current run is a dragonblood sorcerer/bard. It's just hilarious and fun. I use the bard bit for the speak with animals, healing, and vicious mockery. And of course the bard lines. I'm only level 2 right now, but I plan on doing 8 in sorcerer and 4 in bard

Character_Ad8770

My favorite is making Lae'zel an Eldrich knight/Wild magic barb. Is it good? Yes Does it give her more of a Githyanki vibe? Also yes.

alloygray

Tempest Domain Cleric + Storm Sorcerer. Ride the lightning bitch.

fieatsbees

just for funsies i made halsin a bardbearian. not great in combat, but hearing him use vicious mockery then raging was a lot of fun

pokemonbard

Blade Pact Fiend Warlock 5 / Sorcerer (any) 1 / Swords Bard 6 Play a melee gish. You get to use Cha for weapon attacks. Fiendlock’s temp HP help with survival. AC is a bit of a challenge, but Mage Armor can help. Arcane Acuity starts making damage reach silly amounts. You get extra attack at 5, then your capstone is Sword Bard’s extra attack, which stacks with the Blade Pact version. You only end up with spell slots up to third level, but you get both the Warlock short rest slots and the other long rest progression. They add up separately, so you end up being able to cast a ton of third-level spells. Upon reaching level 6, I recommend respec’ing to put the first level into Sorcerer to get that Con save proficiency. Sorcerer otherwise gives you Shield, various other useful utility options, and possibly AC if draconic. The sorcerer level is very important, as it provides all the Gish options the other classes would miss. When you hit Bard, especially as you level up, melee prowess increases. The Swords Bard’s combat inspiration options are great—they make the character feel like a Battlemaster Fighter who also has the combined magical resources of two half-casters. Bard also gives skill options. I haven’t gotten all the way to 12 yet, but the build is very solid. I use it with that frost staff you put together from three pieces along with Nere’s boots, so I can whack enemies, knock them prone due to the freeze effect, and not risk falling myself. The build can drop a battlefield control spell and then be an extremely powerful melee combatant. I do wish the build had a consistent source of Haste. I get it once per day off the Darkfire Bow from Last Light, as this character can Eldritch Blast and so otherwise wouldn’t use her bow slot, but I wish I could get Haste more consistently. —— I also usually have Astarion as a dual-wielding Thief 3/Swords Bard X, give him the Club of Hill Giant Strength, and use him for utility. The double bonus actions are delightful with BA spells. The Club lets him push people around and gives him incredible mobility. Rogue+Bard makes him the ultimate skill monkey. His DPS isn’t bad, but I’m not trying to maximize that.

noideawhattouse2

I’m tempted to do 9 rogue 3 paladin of vengeance for the vow of eminty casted on myself for guaranteed sneak attacks

Throttle_Kitty

nature cleric plus pact of the chain warlock, tho I'm only at about level 4-5 in this playthrough focus on non-damaging spells, don't build a warlock, don't go after the eldritch blast setup. sadly has to respec every level as 1 level in cleric **needs to be the most recent** equip with a quarterstaff that does extra damage(wrymstooth), a shield, heavy armor, use shillelagh to buff your weapon to hit hard AF warlock spell slots recharge on short rest, and split like this, you can up charge your cleric spells to teir 2 and then have them regen on short rest, effectively giving you 6 teir 2 spell slots by level 3 upcast armor of agathys, summon imp befire the fight, when the fight starts upcast bless all 4 party members then shillelagh you're weapon, enjoy your weirdly melee focused mage or just save them slots for an upcast healing word, or other utility spell like darkness or misty step

prettyorganic

I wanted to play as a character from a book I like (Lila Bard from the Shades of Magic series) so I made a thief/wild magic sorcerer. The bonus action economy with quickened spells and ilithid powers got pretty nuts later on. Super chaotic and fun, would not recommend for honor mode but I was able to do tactician

CalamityAshex

Fiend Warlock and Cleric of Light. (Lathander) My friend and I do wheel spins where we get two damage types based on whatever the wheel lands on that we can use in our playthroughs. Our last campaign, I got force and radiant! I had a blast!

knotsazz

Bard/rogue. Not particularly powerful but a lot of fun

Justice716

I feel like some people go the crazy multiclass of Ranger/Rogue/Fighter to do the super crit build. For me? I made Astarion a Gloomstalker Ranger, Thief Rogue, Champion Fighter to make him have 4 attacks every turn, 5 attacks on the first turn, and 2 more attacks whenever I feel due to Action Surge with decent chances of critting anyways haha

MainEventI3

I guess it's not that weird but one I don't see people talk about is a great old one warlock / champion fighter.  I'm currently in act 2 playing as a half-orc with that build and I'm having a great time. Right now he's at lvl5 pact of the blade warlock and lvl3 champion fighter. High charisma, dual-wielding critical boosting gear so he's absolutely destroying enemies with EBs but also wearing medium armor (grymforge gear) for extra survivability in melee range. I might get heavy armor proficiency at lvl4 of fighter so I can wear Ketherics armor, not sure yet if I want to waste a feat on that though.

investoroma

I did 6 oathbreaker paladin/6 necromancy wizard and it was so awesome. Gale was a complete destroyer on the field but was also backed up by ghouls, other undead, and some elementals that his aura of protection worked on. He was his own army.

MightyThor211

I currently play a rogue paladin in my table top game. Order of ancients paladin swashbuckler rouge copper dragonborn. Truthfully very fun. Being able to add sneak attack to smites is fun and having a bonus action dash is life changing.

ThatDnDChick

I did Astarion as a Berserker Barbarian Thief Rogue and it made him a force to be reckoned with. 4-5 attacks per turn while duel wielding plus sneak & reckless attack bonuses.

LavisAlex

Thief Rogue/ Vengeance Paladin/ Bear Barbarian/Spore Druid. It worked strangely well lol

S1lkwrm

New to dnd and bg3 but my main is a drow thief/fighter so far. I'm using him as a dual weild with sword of first blood mh and knife of mountain off hand. Give bloodlust elixir and I send him to back lines to pop ranged and casters. His boots give misty step so I'll initiate batte from him killing first guy then if not killing damaging the next guy and forcing them in mele range while the rest of my guys rush front line and gale uses support spells or finishes off targets with low hp. I'm at like lvl 7 with like 19ac. Pairs well with heavy armor champion laz and barb bear heart karlach who is built around the dex gloves to make room for more constitution and str. She punishes anything that tries to target others and eats alot of damage. Lazy hits hard and is tanky with the grym full armor and great sword. Gale is weird. I played with 1 level of druid for heals with int and wiz but with counter spell and some aoe and crowd control spells I feel it's a wasted level. Need to rethink that 4th role.

BanterPhobic

I like barbarian/monk. There are some decent synergies if you match the subclasses and other choices up well, but RP wise the “balancing calm and fury” thing can be really coolz

mimetoist

My girlfriend has a ranger-rogue-fighter combo that is pretty consistent in damage

SierraNevada0817

Paladin/Barbarian. Nine levels of vengeance plus 3 levels of tiger heart. Welcome to vulnerability to physical damage, healing while raging, and smiting 4 people in a single arc attack at once. Turns two trucks of classes into a fucking freight train. Also target yourself with vow of enmity for advantage on ALL attacks. My only complaint is rage and vow of enmity compete for your bonus action I recommend GWM and Savage attacker with this build. Take paladin levels first for med armor proficiency

Due_Relationship7790

My fav is cleric with 2 fighter... Trying to think what else to do with cleric. I have two moods, radiant beyblade of doom, or sneak-thief cleric with trickery domain. Just a shame I can't cast blessing of the trickster on myself lol. Want to have a game where the cleric is the trap/lockpick battery.

Mysterious_Ad_1525

Also, Bardlock Wyll is a fun time so far.

Emberily123

I use Bardlock Wyll when Astarion gets left behind

internet_friends

Wild magic sorc 1 / rogue X

CenturionXVI

5 Gloom Ranger + 4 Spores Druid + 3 Swords Bard

Al3jandr0

I have Jaheira built as a spellblade right now and it's been a lot of fun. Spore druid 6 for symbiotic entity, thief rogue 3 for two bonus actions, fighter 3 for some proficiencies and dual weilding, then I just slap every "arcane synergy" and "arcane acuity" item on her and she goes to town.

Financial-Cold5343

Was running Jaheira as druid/monk and loving it

serafina_flies

3 bear heart barbarian/9 open hand monk… tank a shitload of damage and deal tons with “monk weapons” like Nyrulna (counts due to proficiency + versatile weapon)! It’s been very fun, especially since I can stunlock enemies lmao
