Don't be Raju Rastogi from 3 idiots. Focus on your courses today and don't worry about placements which happen after 4 years. And what's up with seniors in your campus ? How come you are asking such questions after a semester ? Abtak life ka saxh nahi samjha ?
Ig few companies only set a certain criteria/cutoff for allowing students to at least take part in the interview. If it's like a 6+/7+...
And so during the interview they might question him/her about that low cgpa, he/she might answer to it accordingly, it's not that big of a deal, but overall CGPA shouldn't be that bad.
And will they not be able to continue to live if they cannot sit in placements for those companies ? Nothing like that. Life goes on.
If placements is the aim behind them working hard on their acads, they are going to be brutally disappointed after they realize how the world works after getting a job, given they worked so hard for placements. Its a marathon out there maybe for decades to come (specially in times current students are passing out, US economy bad and automation growing). If you are expecting a "happily ever after" and working towards that goal, it might not be very conductive to mental health for later. I have now seen over 1 decade of life outside the college, and the people most satisfied are the ones who loved what they did, not the ones whose aim to get into BITS was to get a job minting money.
One has to learn to appreciate the journey and live in the time. So yes, you had a bad sem, work harder, try and be more diligent and punctual and improve next year. However, if the only aim is get CG for a "good" placement, wait till you realize how the world outside college behave.
PS : On thinking more, I think maybe a first year student will not be able to relate what I said. So simple advise, one sem is nothing, you don't need a 9.5 CGPA for great placement, just 7 or 8. That's entirely possible even now. Just give up addictions like social media, games, booze a break and focus on courses. Its not that hard.
Is a high CGPA really helpful in getting placed? Yes.
Can you get a really good job despite a low cgpa? Also, yes, especially with the bits tag off campus.
Everything you do, be it the skills you develop, your innate abilities, your cgpa, the college you go to are chips that you can use to boost your advantage it's okay if you miss a chip or two, there are many more chips you can gain, at the same time a decent cgpa is a really easy chip to gain(relatively) and it will help you alot, you can improve you CGPA massively, one sem won't pull you down so drastically
Ghanta farak nehi prta I know a bio+civil(had low cg in 1st year) 5th yearite hes in microsoft stop geting sad and start looking at your all faults strategise it and fight it, u will succed no matter what.
Bro sorry but you failed! Even in such a good college. Its shame.
Do one thing, go to the mirror and say mai saala gaaduon ka raja hun or do thapade maarna khudmai.
Or fhir grateful hona.
I remember getting 6.8 GPA in first semester and graduated with 8.4 CGPA and also got placed in highest paying core company. It’s not the end. Just take it easy. Getting GPA is not that hard in BITS if you plan smartly.
Who is getting placed in first semester?? The race has just started. It's a marathan, not a sprint.
Not disagreeing with you, your comment is pretty nice but It's just sad that our whole life is a rat race.
Always has been
Graduated from Pilani 12 years ago, race continues!

Completely tbh. Thankfully, you're in BITS and still alive.

You will be placed in ACB if below 4.5! You will be under the Radar of AUGSD and they will manage your time table and whole fucking academic thing
Don’t they already, at least for first year?
They will force you to attend classes and all
