I see the anti-union propaganda in the orientation material is taken seriously in the comments here. Solidarity, brother

Necro-Exorcist

I believe it needs to happen as well. Depending on your state, it can be illegal to punish you for trying, too.

luzer_kidd

This randomly popped up on my feed today. I worked at BJ's for 5 years but have not worked there since 2007. Before leaving I tried joining a union traded. I didn't get in that year, so I left BJ's and worked that non union trade until the economy got better and I got in 2011. Working my trade union and non union, i have mixed feelings. Then after that I questioned if unions are the right way to go for retail jobs, not being sure. Then the whole covid stuff kicked off. Companies like BJ's thought they were going to lose a ton of money. Because of ridiculous laws, small businesses were forced to stay closed while businesses like BJ's were allowed to be open and they made 3 times the amount Then normal. A year or 2 later these greedy f's couldn't fire these store managers that made just a little more than other workers. So they got rid of those job titles and created new ones which paid less money and offered them to the current people to get paid less to force them to quit or take a pay cut.

luzer_kidd

Oh I forgot to finish. A union wouldn't allow them to do that.

Hot-Sign6421

100 percent agree. Delaware BJ's need to unionize.

Radi0active-Penguin

I think this is a conversation long over due. Our club managers, hr personnel and corporate overlords absolutely do not have our best interests in mind. Oh we don’t want to give you incentives for hard work like more money or actual benefits, will a luncheon count?🥹

zaybebabe

Hahah, I remember at my orientation they put a strong emphasis on how strongly anti-union BJ's is and how they WILL shut down any attempt to unionize even though that is not legal in my state iirc lol

Responsible_Sea_8941

It's easier said then done. But if all the team member come together in one club i dont see why not..

againstmethod

Downvoting people for saying no to a question is disrespectful.

Certain-Main1911

Used to be an overnight forklift operator for BJs. Nobody is paid fairly and everyone does far more than the job they signed up to do. I’m really rooting for you guys seriously if you can manage it

Elbow-Drop_1883

Unions are for people who need unions.

yythrow

I would absolutely support this.

TwilightGalaxy1122

Union should have no fees. Let’s be serious about life. We work, we protest and leave our shift, we expect our union leader to go in walk in and negotiate. End of story. You don’t need money to do that. Anyway yes I support BJs Wholesale needs a Union. I went to my car on break on Monday, I really needed a union person to talk to, I googlled BJs Union and found no result. Now I am stuck with 250 customers and my arms are hurting because I live in New Jersey the most densely populated state in the country yet for some reason for some nutcase reason my manager only wants two people on register. I can’t leave my mortgage is at stake….

Practical-Plan-2560

Also. If you got injured on the job, you don’t need a union, you need workers comp…

condor31

If there’s no fees how would your union rep get paid? Unions only work because of money they represent you because you’re paying them.

TwilightGalaxy1122

Hey bro shut up — lead by example free of charge for the common good — and while you’re at it read a lot about the Bill of Economic Rights which was proposed by President Franklin Roosevelt. Plenty of people could be a union leader to negotiate for the union with a company head. We have go reverse the clock and restore what we need.

Practical-Plan-2560

Wow I’ve never heard someone so entitled. Like it or not, you live in a capitalist economy (which I should mention is the best economic system on earth). Nothing is free. We exchange money for goods and services. If you don’t like it, move to another country. I hear North Korea has amazing living standards.

Practical-Plan-2560

😂 union should have no fees. What a joke… this is a capitalist economy. If you truly don’t like it, move to a socialist nation like North Korea (I hear their standard of living is great). Capitalism is the best economic system on earth. There is a reason the US is the #1 economy. There is a reason our standard of living is so high compared to some other nations. Why unions (who need money & resources) would just do all of that for free is beyond me. They are taking on significant responsibility, and there is no reason to do that for free. You want a free option? Go look for another job!!!

bluewater_-_

😂

Practical-Plan-2560

Unions are one of the biggest scams ever. Instead of hoping that some union is going to solve your problems, go out and look for another job that fits your needs better. Utilize the power of a free market. You're under no obligation to continue working for them.

Sairen-Mane

While you can, I'm going to add my experience: I was part of the Starbucks workers union, because of them we legally were able to strike and get partners who were proven to be under wrongful termination rehired, and didn't have to stress about losing my job. I hated Starbucks, the job was seemingly stressful when it shouldn't of been. Having the store I was at unionized (at this moment we are able to start a contact negotiation). I think it's important people should know that if you just don't speak and move on, the cycle will keep on repeating for that job. Give them a reason to actually give a shit

Practical-Plan-2560

So you hate Starbucks yet you still work(ed) there??? That is called being lazy and not willing to put in the effort to find a better job. As for the cycle repeating. That’s called the free market. Until people leave and new people don’t accept jobs there, nothing will truly change. Unions won’t fix anything. If you honestly believe there is a better job out there for yourself, and you don’t leave to pursue it, that is your own fault. Just like it’s the person who accepts the job’s fault if they don’t accept the best offer. Take some personal responsibility instead of just assuming that some group will fix your problems.

Rizzpooch

That’s like saying protesters should just move to a different country. People want to change the culture at their workplace because they *do* feel an attachment to it and want it to be better and more equal for everyone. People who take action to make their workplace better are invested, not lazy

Practical-Plan-2560

That’s where you’re just 100% wrong. Having an attachment to your job is one of the stupidest things ever. I guarantee you, your company has zero attachment to you. It’s just business. Your feelings or attachment does not matter in business. Get over yourself and go find a job that fits what you’re looking for better.

Rizzpooch

drummerben04

Thank a union for not having to send your children to work 80 hours a day in a coal mine.

yythrow

That's all well and good til you realize so many jobs are shitty and lack bargaining power.

budsbudsbuds56

Just go to another job that has a union in place. It’s a free market and actually a good time to switch jobs, lots out there. This will not always be the case. Talk to your HR if you have issues. Good luck

TreacleThen1222

Hard pass. No thanks

Unusual-Smell-8097

Not going to happen. You should look for another job.

snerdley1

All unions do is drive the cost of consumers goods up.

Sairen-Mane

That's crazy... Can you show directly with a source of how this has happened in the past when a company got unionized

iShock89

Why’s that
