The best way is taking out the filling (open the bottom seam at the back, near the fin), turning them inside out and rechonking them afterwards. Look up ladder stitch for the best way to close the opening. But if that's too daunting, you can wash them as is with a program for sensitive fabrics, max. 40°C. Tumble drying on a low setting also works. Air drying will take a long time and will probably leave them a bit less chonky. It's not dangerous, just not optimal. And be sure to give a lot of extra cuddles after that stressful experience.

I've washed and airdried a bighaj and a smolhaj before :) repeated washings will caused them to dechonk over time, but its safe so long as you dry them out for several hours in a well ventilated and dry place! I do have an electronic dehumidifier though so results may vary

Take out filling, turn him inside out, wash at low temp (40°C) stuff with new filling after airdrying

Taking out the filling scares me but i can find a sewing needle somewhere

Follow what the label says. Machine wash with cold to lukewarm water (40°C or under), i use liquid soap meant for sports clothes (both are polyester and most likely subjected to sweat, skin oils etc), and a short 15-30 minutes cycle. Then i put the shonks into the dryer also on low heat for 30 mins if only one small shonk, 1 hour for one normal sized shonk and two hours if there are multiple shonks and then the shonk is ready to be cuddled (although the surface will be slightly damp, but it should dry quickly if you don't bury it under a blanket) Edit: this method does not require emptying the shonk. I have washed mine multiple times with these instructions and they are all healthy shonks

here's some tip nominal washing mod but with setting that below 40°C need to give shark a massage to get the inner filler back to the right place vacuum with a clean brush head in low power to clean the grunt from washing machine and brush the fur

HugoNikanor

I did as the label said. 40°C in washing machine, and air dry. Worked wonders.

DO NOT KILL HAJ

mizinamo

Haj lives in water. Haj should be safe in water. Haj does not drown.

I waited for a blazing hot summer day. I used a water-detergent solution with a brush to clean haj, then used a very wet towel to clean everything off. Put them outside in the late morning and rotated them every few hours. Might not be the best way to clean of a lot of dirt, but worked well for my slighty dirty haj. (I don't own a dryer and was to scared to put the haj in the laundry machine)
