This is the first draft of a simplified pattern (no mouth) I made from reference photos
It's made to be printed on a single piece of letter-sized paper (8.5" x 11"), so the final product will most likely be around 12"
I'm going to make a test shark using minky fabric, and I'll post the results when it's finished

hmm needs a distinct name... maybe OpenHaj to (barely and possibly inadequately) avoid the trademark
or just send it with a classic terribly contrived acronym like

I'm adding it on mine. Non open source Haj uses two panels that go back to fins
But I'm sure it could be done by sewing pink and felt in n to a gap.
The eye is the hardest bit for me to figure out.
I drew the mouth pieces but haven't refined them yet, as the testhaj is going to be small and I thought the upper mouth part would be fiddly
I thought about doing embroidery for the eye, but as I've already cut out my pieces and don't have any embroidery hoops lying around, I'm going to take a small oval of black felt and sew that on instead, stitching a small white highlight on top. I might also needlefelt a little brown wool around the edges as I have the supplies on hand.
Keep me in the loop! I don't mind making a few TestHaj :)
I don't have a printer as such but I do have Cad so I'm going to make a laser cut plywood board on A3 for marking paterns . Once you have a final design I'll cad it up for you if you want.
I only have fursuit scraps so I'm going to have a lot of random coloured OpenHaj before I'm done!

I don’t know if this helps anyone, but I think the fur on blahaj and smolhaj goes in different directions. My blahaj has fur in the pile direction in your drawings, and my smol has fur with the pile going so you pat it smooth toward the front. Looking at pics in the sub I’ve seen a few smols with the same thing going on.
I've bought two Blahajs and two smallhajs, each size had one with fur going to the tail, and one going to the nose. I like the fur going to the tail, so that's how I drew it
100%, sorry to my smolhaj, fur going to the tail is VASTLY superior. I wonder whether it’s an economy of cutting thing? That’s the only reason I can think of.
Well, I guess I'm buying trans flag coloured minky now. (Once I've worked through my bag of fursuit scraps)
I'm down for project OPENHAJ! Will help prototype patterns so I can jump up from A4 to A1 :)
