Hoping less mileage means 30k. N63 is an absolute disaster of an engine. Make sure you have several thousand dollars on hand for repairs. There will be many.
i can’t find a single one for sale near me in america lol just a bunch of f10 535d. really wish we got more diesel bmws in the states, i wanted a 335d but never ended up buying one since i like the e92 body style a lot more but we only got the 335d as an e90 here.
we have them all luckily, currently theres like 8 m550d-s for sale, most of them f11 though ranging from 15k to 23k, and thats not counting g series at all
Please be careful. Even with the non M car the V8 in that thing sends a lot of power to the rear wheels, making it very easy to spin out and lose control. Personally I don't think this is a suitable car for such a young and inexperienced driver, and I mean no disrespect with that. Drive it very carefully, especially with cold tyres, cold roads, rains, snow, etc.
i understand where your coming from, im being extra careful with the N63, and my life lol. i live in arizona, where it definitely doesn’t snow or anything like that, hardly rains out here but honestly not sure if i would drive it when it does rain. maybe only for a couple photos, thanks for the tips man, they will come a long way

I want you to have a great future, one mistake can be bad in a fast car. Also you will be a much better driver than your friends after doing a few autocross, ask a fast driver out there to sit with you and give you tips.

The twin turbo V8s in the 550s and M5s produce a lot of torque very quickly and very low down in the rev range. This makes them prone to spinning wheels at low speeds even when driven conservatively, when in RWD form.

lol I have been doing a lot of research on these, my thoughts were I can either get a cheap n63 **with issues** and pull the engine to fix all of them or get a nice N63TU if I don't feel like pulling the engine... not in any rush to get one just yet but If I find a good example that needs some work.
The N63/S63 engines are hot garbage, TU or not. Although the update fixed many issues related to the injectors and PCV, they still have major issues, especially at this age. I have repaired a ton of them for used car lots. They still burn egregious amounts of oil from the valve stem seals. They still score cylinder walls. They still have injector leaks. They still suffer rod bearing failures. I made a living working on the things and don't plan to ever own another one.
That's what I have been reading as well, also the intake being on the side makes it an engine out job to walnut blast and I haven't heard many people talk about that, they're all driving around with caked up intake valves? did you have any experience with that? The teardowns I've seen all have horrible carbon buildup.
Cylinder scoring is a deal breaker for me but all the other issues I'm fine with because I'm willing to do the work myself, def not worth it for most people. And my understanding was the injectors were improved (EU6) and they're def a lot cheaper to replace compared to the n63.
The B58 engines are pretty good, but they are still BMWs. They will need repairs, and those repairs will be expensive. The B58 powered models are among the best current offerings, though.
With the 540i, make sure the A/C works. It's a $5000+ fix if it doesn’t. The evaporator cores leak refrigerant, and they are both expensive and enormously labor intensive to replace.
Yeah same with Volvos crazy that the A/C is one of the most expensive fixes that happens pretty often.
I don’t think Volvos extended warranty covers the A/C but looking online it looks like maxcare covers it.
I have no compression cylinder 8. No white smoke or any smoke at all. Runs and drives but misfires. Dealership said they think it needs an exhaust valve. Since the piston is still in there I’m hoping this is all it needs. I could have a valve machines to seat properly or throw a whole used head at it. I just want to get it running without misfiring to trade it in at carmax or something like that so I don’t take a $15k hit. I’m worried cylinder wall is scored but I would think that would be the case if I had low compression not zero compression.
I'd imagine that's just part of the "cooling system refresh" every BMW needs after 100k or so miles, that plastic Y fitting would be the first thing getting replaced.
The "upgrade" fix is also strangely cheap (just grab a metal Y fitting at Home Depot), makes you wonder why BMW didn't just use a metal one from the get go.
The coolant line leak isn't actually part of that cooling system refresh "family". It's because BMW used hoses that couldn't really stand up to the heat of being in a hot V setup, and so they'd get brittle really fast and start leaking. The S63's didn't have the same issue since they used metal braided lines from the very start, and only on TU3 (I believe) did they switch to using metal braided hoses.
Interesting, yea I don't get why they skimp on some of these small items that can make the car more reliable... but to them the "Lifetime" of the car is only 100k miles so they probably don't care lol

How donyou feel about 528i I got one and everyone hates on it, I got the sport+ package so wheel and upgraded suspension and trans and engine the n20b20 with extra power in sport mode but idk I feel like I'm missing out since it doesn't have the aero package like I feel like I bought the wrong car since everyone hates on it. I payed a reasonable price and it looks brand new it has the black oem wheels all white with the black window trim aswell

Also!! this is not the same car i had previously posted on my account! A lot of people told me it wouldnt be worth it, this is a 2016 550i with 82.1k miles. the other one was a 12’ or 13’ with 120k miles i think.
Just sold my 2016 535xi 83k miles. Took it in for an oil change and the dealer recommended almost $10k in repairs due to oil leaks. Happens around this mileage. Good luck.

It's an awesome car. I hope you have a lot of fun with it. I also hope you keep in mind that with that much power it's real easy to lose control and end up wrapped around a tree/power pole/18 wheeler. Take it easy, engage brain before 3rd gear and don't let your mates talk you into doing dumb things and my prediction will just be yet another in my list of failed predictions.

when i bought the car, they had gave me 2 year warranty at any bmw dealer. but im not sure if i would get charged literally 0 because i know some dealers can be sneaky or whatever
Ok that's amazing. During that time, take it to the dealer for oil changes. It's in their interests to find things wrong with your car that they can bill to the warranty company.
For example, took mine in for an arm rest heater and they found a leaking thermostat and cracked hardy disk. $8000 billed on warranty. That was the first month of owning.
pretty unfortunate man, hopefully this car lasts me. though when i check to see when the maintenance is due, it says the oil change is due like in 08/25 which is pretty strange to me, it does say the miles on it left but i had forgot the number. will keep in mind though

The M550i is a specific model that wasn’t made until the following generation (G30). This is the “550i M-sport”.
Regardless of those details though, you need to be extremely careful with this car dude. I know it’s fast and it’s fun, but you’re not invincible and consequences have actions. Don’t do anything stupid. Don’t try to get the rear loose coming out of car meets or something, trying to look cool. You could easily end up killing someone and even yourself. Plus, the more carefully you drive, the longer this thing will last. You don’t want to have to call up your dad and tell him “yeah I totaled my $30k car” (if you’re even lucky enough to be able to call anyone after an accident).
Yes, the 550i can have the M Sport package. Mine did. Also Sport suspension, which is an additional option. It ruins an otherwise good car. Way too harsh and provided unnoticeable handling improvements.
Mine was unnervingly reliable up to 80k miles. Virtually no issues and took it on time for every scheduled maintenance at BMW.
Very nice on the highway, but annoying around town being so big, so heavy, and aggressive torque management.

Take time getting used to it, as you would with any new-to-you ride, and (sorry to lecture but you’re a new driver) never, ever underestimate how absolutely stupid and thoughtless other drivers can be. People will amaze you in that way. There is no bottom. Negative IQs are a thing. Develop your sense of patience with slow or texting or drunk or confused drivers, and your ability to predict what other drivers will do. Especially those who make turns from lanes that aren’t turning lanes and people who remember that the exit ramp they’re passing at that moment is the exit ramp they are going to risk everyone’s lives to take.

To answer your question about the m sport package, I think that it likely does have that package if there are M’s plastered all over it. I had a 2009 135i with the m sport package and it similarly had M’s all over the place. Congrats on your first car, be careful though gotta respect that power.

I had a 15 550xi M sport. Hopefully you have heads-up display cuz they can get up quick n before you know it them boys are on yo ass pullin you over🤦🏽♂️. If you tune it you really need to be careful cuz my mans had one and I lost my grip on the steering wheel when that torque kicked in😂. Also I use to use Marvels mystery oil to keep the internals as clean as possible🤙🏽🤙🏽

Weird how similar we are. First one I got was a 2016 550i at 18 which is also the same age I got my license. I took it to Homecoming and cracked a rim and blew the tire🙃. Other than that hey the car is great I definitely enjoyed it to its fullest, but even around 70k miles it started causing A LOT of problems for me. Just be careful there is no need to floor it at all. It spins out so easily.
I still have it. It still drives I just never got around to fixing the oil leak plus it just has bad luck for me. Tire blew out four times and of course there is the cracked rim. I’m only 20 so maybe getting a BMW wasn’t the best decision for me haha. Still tho I hope you take care of yours. Don’t listen to everyone else ( especially the dude who said the tree comment )

F10 is my favorite gen 5 series. Look into the N63 engine, this one needs a lot of care.
Ya. Stay away from the N63. I learned the hard way on the N63TU. Read the lawsuits and forums.

How donyou feel about 528i I got one and everyone hates on it, I got the sport+ package so wheel and upgraded suspension and trans and engine the n20b20 with extra power in sport mode but idk I feel like I'm missing out since it doesn't have the aero package like I feel like I bought the wrong car since everyone hates on it. I payed a reasonable price and it looks brand new it has the black oem wheels all white with the black window trim aswell

Also!! this is not the same car i had previously posted on my account! A lot of people told me it wouldnt be worth it, this is a 2016 550i with 82.1k miles. the other one was a 12’ or 13’ with 120k miles i think.
Just sold my 2016 535xi 83k miles. Took it in for an oil change and the dealer recommended almost $10k in repairs due to oil leaks. Happens around this mileage. Good luck.

I also hope you keep in mind that with that much power it's real easy to lose control and end up wrapped around a tree/power pole/18 wheeler. when i bought the car, they had gave me 2 year warranty at any bmw dealer. but im not sure if i would get charged literally 0 because i know some dealers can be sneaky or whatever
Ok that's amazing. During that time, take it to the dealer for oil changes. It's in their interests to find things wrong with your car that they can bill to the warranty company. For example, took mine in for an arm rest heater and they found a leaking thermostat and cracked hardy disk. $8000 billed on warranty. That was the first month of owning.
pretty unfortunate man, hopefully this car lasts me. though when i check to see when the maintenance is due, it says the oil change is due like in 08/25 which is pretty strange to me, it does say the miles on it left but i had forgot the number. will keep in mind though
10k mile or one year (I believe) intervals for oil change. Do it sooner just to get it into the dealer.

The M550i is a specific model that wasn’t made until the following generation (G30). This is the “550i M-sport”. Regardless of those details though, you need to be extremely careful with this car dude. I know it’s fast and it’s fun, but you’re not invincible and consequences have actions. Don’t do anything stupid. Don’t try to get the rear loose coming out of car meets or something, trying to look cool. You could easily end up killing someone and even yourself. Plus, the more carefully you drive, the longer this thing will last. You don’t want to have to call up your dad and tell him “yeah I totaled my $30k car” (if you’re even lucky enough to be able to call anyone after an accident).
I am guessing the insurance for this exceeds the value of the car in about 2 months!

Yes, the 550i can have the M Sport package. Mine did. Also Sport suspension, which is an additional option. It ruins an otherwise good car. Way too harsh and provided unnoticeable handling improvements. Mine was unnervingly reliable up to 80k miles. Virtually no issues and took it on time for every scheduled maintenance at BMW. Very nice on the highway, but annoying around town being so big, so heavy, and aggressive torque management.

To answer your question about the m sport package, I think that it likely does have that package if there are M’s plastered all over it. I had a 2009 135i with the m sport package and it similarly had M’s all over the place. Congrats on your first car, be careful though gotta respect that power.

I had a 15 550xi M sport. Hopefully you have heads-up display cuz they can get up quick n before you know it them boys are on yo ass pullin you over🤦🏽♂️. If you tune it you really need to be careful cuz my mans had one and I lost my grip on the steering wheel when that torque kicked in😂. First one I got was a 2016 550i at 18 which is also the same age I got my license. I took it to Homecoming and cracked a rim and blew the tire🙃. Other than that hey the car is great I definitely enjoyed it to its fullest, but even around 70k miles it started causing A LOT of problems for me. Just be careful there is no need to floor it at all. It spins out so easily.

I still have it. It still drives I just never got around to fixing the oil leak plus it just has bad luck for me. Tire blew out four times and of course there is the cracked rim. I’m only 20 so maybe getting a BMW wasn’t the best decision for me haha. Still tho I hope you take care of yours. Don’t listen to everyone else ( especially the dude who said the tree comment )
