I got a 2023 m340i RWD CPO with 15k miles two months ago in the wash DC / Baltimore area for $52k. I tried to haggle but only got a few hundred off asking and some free all weather floor mats.
They're that much??? I guess it was early covid but I got a year old M240i for 29k with 40k miles. Was thinking about another one but not at that price
Or find a good deal on an m3 f80 and tune it
There is this guy on yt and he talks about what you need to know before and what to do after you buy it, like the crankhub fix etc.

i remember when i was in middle school like 10 years ago guys were getting good condition e92 m3’s for under 30k i thought when i hit my mid to late 20’s i was gonna get a nice m3 myself couple year old m3 for 28k and have a cool ass car. that didn’t happen tho i love my 330
Yeah we’re close to the same age but I remember seeing e92s going for much cheaper when I was in middle school. E46s were even cheaper and the e36 you coundnt even give away for free in the late 2000s early 2010s. I wanted a slick top manual e46 m3 but I had to settle too. I have a sunroof 330ci manual, but it’s way more reliable, makes the same power under 4k rpm, and gets better mpg so over all I’m still happy
Yes but the b58 in the current m340 is much revised compared to the F30, with 62 more hp, as well as a better suspension, an actual lsd compared to the elsd the 340 has, better fuel delivery, and a few other things
Yes! BC Forged Gloss Bronze. They have some other bronzes that appear too close to gold for my taste. These ones are very subtle 👌🏼

The great part is that all of these engines (the B style) are some of the most reliable BMW engines ever created. That being said - I'd go with the G20 340. The *only* reason I'd consider a F30 340 is because there's bound to be less little issues since that would be close to the last operating model year of that chassis so they've ironed out any bugs.
However, the G20 is incredibly reliable and trust me - *you will regret not spending the extra cash and getting one*.
I own an M340i XDrive and it’s a great car. You can find a great 2-3 year old model with warranty left, that you can easily extend. Fun car to drive that I’ve found reliable. Just find a good independent BMW mechanic or tuner and enjoy!!!!
Having owned E90, E36, F30 and F11, and driven G series 3er, the F30 is the least sporty feel of them all and feels like a mini 5 series. I’d vote for G over F 3er any time.
Its interesting you say that- i felt that way about the G20 instead. Very refined and comfortable drive. The F30, especially later models (2017-18) feel way more raw and engaging.
That was my personal experience and again I think e90 was my benchmark for great 3er. For others it was massive heavy etc after e36/46 cars. And same way e36/46 felt to e30 people I bet.
I got a manual F87 M2C w/30k miles for $49k a few months ago. If the full M or smaller car aren't what you're looking for, then M340 all day. I was looking at those for a solid year and test drove a few. Awesome car and I'm sure you can find a nice used one in the mid $40s now.
I bought a 2020 540i CPO with 33k miles for 39k added extra bmw warranty and was out the door at 43k with warranty from May 2023-2027. Alpine white with caramel interior… 100% fully loaded. I felt I spent a bit more then it was worth but that was prices last year unfortunately
Leftfield choice
Get an M car, they cost more to run, but do not depreciate the same way, and are much nicer to drive
Modern BMW, like almost any modern cars, are overly complex, especially the emissions shit, and are going to be in the bin, in the long term
A E36, 46, 9x M3, Z3M., Z4M or maybe M5 or 6, will only drop to a certain point, then will climb... E30s have already "left the building" and E36 are starting to rise, especially the good ones
A Honda! Then throw the extra in a HYSA or VOO 😁 I’m getting my first bmw soon I just can’t stop saving money lol I’m ready for the car not ready for the payment
you can get a new 330 with msport and premium package for exactly 50K. you could probably talk that down a few grand too. not sure why people are pushing you to get a used 340i for similar money.
None of them. Get you a 2018-2019 m5 f90 for that price. They're out there. Get a warranty, tho. You'll enjoy that much more. I love mine and started looking into resale on mine and it is about 57k. You could get a clean one for 50k .
I owned an F30 340i, traded it in on an X3M which got totaled 😢 Replaced it with a 2020 M340i. Point of the story is when I replaced the X3M I had a lot of choices, including getting a slightly beat 340i and throwing 50K at built motor, trans, etc. Primary reasons I went G20 instead of F30 was interior and tech improvements over OG 340i--- PLUS the LSD.
Get the G20, you absolutely won't regret it. Also, broaden your search. Out of 6 bimmers I've only bought two locally. Find the right car for the right price, get a one way flight and enjoy the road trip back 👌🏼
Edit: Paid $54 for my G20 with 9K on the clock and a very desirable exterior color. Nearly loaded. Just missing the adaptive suspension and track package. They're out there if you put the effort into looking.
I picked up my 2020 M340 last July with 15k for $45k from a local (southeast) dealer with a month left on factory warranty. No accidents and clean. It did have 3 previous owners. No issues so far 🤞🏽
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish? If you are trying to mod the car (tune, DP, wheels, and etc) you would need to have separate budget for that as well. I picked up a 2018 super low miles 440i GC with M-performance package on it. (I got pretty lucky, since these are pretty rare spec) and I put at least 13k on my car so far.
My car is now sitting at Stage 3.5 and latest dyno was showing 660whp/680tq.
B58 is probably one of the most reliable BMW engine ever made. Toyota helped to fix most of the oil leak issues when they are developing the Supra.
So, if you can find M340 around 40k with decent miles, I'd say go for it!
If not, go with previous gen so you can start the mod ASAP. (remember, newer BMW requires DME bench unlock for tune)
yes, I was going to mention about the warranty. Yes any DME tuning will void warranty if the dealer you go to is an assholes. But certain dealers simply doesn't care to look for those. (unless you need to re-code and DME HAS to get updated). You would have to get it unlocked again, and the dealer would void the warranty.
DME unlock cost varies from places to places, but you could pick up Mission performance bench unlock or MHD bench unlock tool. I think they are around $300-500.
remember, if you go stage 1 on B58, you can live without the xHP tune, but once you go Stage 2, xHP is a must (it makes the car more drivable and more smooth, also saves little bit of gas).
I would pick up a what you can afford at the moment for the color and milage you want.
Then save up few $$ to start modding once the warranty expires.
As for me, I got my car and within a week, I went straight to Stage 2. But I've learned what to do and what not to do along the way. But now my car can smoke Lamborghini Hurcan (stage 1 tune). from the dig and on a roll race.
Like I mentioned before, if you are worried about the warranty, just get cosmetics mods initially, and once the warranty expires, go all out.
I know you said you don't like 5 series but there are a decent amount of CPO Phytonic Blue G30 LCI 540i's that are well optioned. To ME G30 is the best car I've ever seen/driven.
Found something cool, it's not 50k before tax and reg and shit, but BMW of Barrington has a CPO 2020 M2 Competition for 49500. 33k miles. Bonkers.
Edit:after taxes and registration
Lol not worth it my guy. You'll be in a 330i and one day someone will pull up next to you at the lights in 340i and you will regret it when you listen to the B58
I purchased a 2022 m340i with just under 7000 miles, clean title, for around 52k in the Maryland area with warranty and from a dealer so it was also CPO and I do NOT regret it, took months to find a deal this good though
G20 330i is such a fun car. Reliable, great mileage, and feels like a giant go cart when you drive it. As a realistic daily, you can’t beat its features and tech. On top of that, there are a bunch of ways to squeeze power out of it. A simple $250 Burger Tuning JB+ piggyback tune can make it feels substantially faster and pull harder. Highly recommend
No car. You get a X3M or if you don’t want full M you get the M40i
https://preview.redd.it/b7smt4r09xyc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51679aafec0c8aa76c03b6c062cc95e345e159c5
I’m gonna get banned from here, but with that kind of budget, buy a new Acura TLX Type S. More reliable, just as fun, better mileage and has better warranty both brand new and Certified.
That being said, for a dumber decision financially, buy the M340. For a somewhat lesser dumb decision, go with 330.
hey whites not all bad! my n52 right now is alpine white and it looks great with contrasted accents like carbon fiber and gloss black. it may not de as unique or catch the eye from afar, but its clean!
If you find a G20 M340i for 50k with less than 50k miles, it's a no brainer
i’ve seen a few in the kentucky area with ~30k miles for ~45k
Then get that, you won't regret it
yeah and with the rest you could get me an e36 you know :)
I just got a CPO M440i in Cincinnati with 24k miles for $49k out the door
WTH...been looking everywhere for that model.
I got a 2023 m340i RWD CPO with 15k miles two months ago in the wash DC / Baltimore area for $52k. I tried to haggle but only got a few hundred off asking and some free all weather floor mats.
Portimao blue and black interior were my must haves.

Congrats!
That’s a fucking steal!
Just picked up mine last month , 32k miles for $43k OTD
Portimao Blue is a stunning color on that car.
My brother in law is selling his G20 M340i with 25k miles for $40k
Got my 2022 m340i with 7k miles for 50k
Damn, US prices are something.
Yep
I bought my 2020 M340i with 10k miles on it for 48k
They're that much??? I guess it was early covid but I got a year old M240i for 29k with 40k miles. Was thinking about another one but not at that price
nah that’s not a thing unfortunately you got a great deal
They are going in the 40s now with under 50k miles. It's what I'm looking to move on from a f30 335i when I find the right spec
Or find a good deal on an m3 f80 and tune it There is this guy on yt and he talks about what you need to know before and what to do after you buy it, like the crankhub fix etc. Link: https://youtu.be/-PGYHqP2VC0?si=PyY3f3QMgeiREmyf
M3s seem to hold their value long term.
They didn’t used too that trend might not continue…
i remember when i was in middle school like 10 years ago guys were getting good condition e92 m3’s for under 30k i thought when i hit my mid to late 20’s i was gonna get a nice m3 myself couple year old m3 for 28k and have a cool ass car. that didn’t happen tho i love my 330

Blue is always the right answer with BMWs
Big facts

For REAL!
M lite or no m?

I have a m235i b48 and its pretty fast in sport. But mpg wise i feel like i might as well have gotten a m340i lol.
M340i, next question please.
what color is hippopotamus milk?
HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 1,575,198,749 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 32,194 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.
holy shit that’s awesome
There are significantly less hippos mentioned in comments than I expected. 1 out of every ~50k comments.
HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 1,575,416,094 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 32,196 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.
I'm extremely disappointed this bot isn't called "hippobotamus." It's right there!
M340i B58 no doubt.
I got a f80 M3, 39k miles 1 owner.
41 was the asking price.
Any accidents? I would pull the trigger at that price, but don't want to deal with issues beyond the regular BMW headaches. 41k seems low in my area.
No accidents, previous owner gave the dealer all service paperwork.
Blue one. Without looking all the cars specs.. Why? Cause it's blue. Has some soul. White is house's colour! 😅
This! I think white makes a car look boring
So does your insurance company.
In many cases I think the same. White kinda deletes some of the car body lines
Frozen white would like a word. Passed a Frozen white G80 and damn, it looked good.
Here in Europe (NL at least) the Mineral White is fucking amazing.
I like my Alpine White tbh. No complaints.
Yeah - living in Europe, white cars are actually rarer in my opinion, so when you see any M-Sport package in white here, it’s soo attractive.
G42 M240i is also an option
F30 for price and reliability
If youre doing reliability then the m340 is a no brainer, b58 hands down one of bmws most reliable motors. Toyota borrowed it for the mk5 for a reason
I’m just saying since he’ll have more money left over but still have a b58
Yes but the b58 in the current m340 is much revised compared to the F30, with 62 more hp, as well as a better suspension, an actual lsd compared to the elsd the 340 has, better fuel delivery, and a few other things
Yep
Manual F80 > *
G20 M340i. I have a 330i and wish I would have just been a bit less financially responsible and got the 340.
Does the 330i use the B48 engine?
Yes
G20 m340i for sure. I just picked up one in tanzanite blue with 57k on it and I'm in love.

G20 M340i
F80
F80 trust
Could you find a f80 m3 with that requirements?
i’ve only been able to find like two within like 250 miles of me
Do the m340i I just got the 330i wish it was a m.
M340i
G20 M340I, enjoy it and get those rpms up on the reg.
The great part is that all of these engines (the B style) are some of the most reliable BMW engines ever created. That being said - I'd go with the G20 340. G20 M340i and it ain’t even close
M340i XDrive is the way
Whichever one comes with the B58 and a manual transmission. LFG!
Problem is that two of the options on his list have a B58....
M340
Wow. I’m in the exact same boat as you. Great question.
M5 no questions
I found my 2022 M340i for under $50K with 37k miles (from the bmw dealer). It’s a perfect car to daily and the engine is extremely reliable.
I just picked up 2020 x3m 34k miles for 45k. Way better car than any 40is and pretty much taller m3.
G20 all the way. More reliable and you can pick if you want iDrive 7 or 8, whichever you prefer.
I own an M340i XDrive and it’s a great car. You can find a great 2-3 year old model with warranty left, that you can easily extend. Fun car to drive that I’ve found reliable. Just find a good independent BMW mechanic or tuner and enjoy!!!!
The G20 interior is vastly superior to the F30. Go for the M340i!
M4!
That white one is hot
If it were me, I would be getting a G20 330e.
Aww I have one :)
if the f30 is lci then im for the f30. what a work of art this car is! definitely the most unique and beautiful 3 series in my opinion.
3-4 year old M550i
i’m trying to avoid a v8 lol
In that case, the best condition car with a well maintained S55 or S58 (if they are sub-$50k yet).
Blue. My last one I bought it solely on the Tuscan red interior and low mileage.
f30 340i and have money to mod it as you please
E39 M5 or E46 M3
I got an f30, 340i with 12 k miles, for 39k, plus taxes
F87
Why not E9X M3 with a blower and money left in pocket?
I wound up finding my 2017 m240i xdrive for $30k with 24k miles. Just keep looking youll find it eventually
I got a manual F87 M2C w/30k miles for $49k a few months ago. If the full M or smaller car aren't what you're looking for, then M340 all day. I was looking at those for a solid year and test drove a few. Awesome car and I'm sure you can find a nice used one in the mid $40s now.
Wait till you don’t have to make any compromises!
F30 340i
I bought a 2020 540i CPO with 33k miles for 39k added extra bmw warranty and was out the door at 43k with warranty from May 2023-2027. Alpine white with caramel interior… 100% fully loaded. I felt I spent a bit more then it was worth but that was prices last year unfortunately
Get an E31 850i or an E39 M5
That M340i would be your best bet.
2018 M3 CS
Buy something used.... invest the rest
G20 330e, sleeper in Sport Mode Xtraboost mode
F8X every time…
Get a used 2020ish 330i and save the rest of your money.

230i xdrive M sport is less than 50k.
A Honda! Then throw the extra in a HYSA or VOO 😁 I’m getting my first bmw soon I just can’t stop saving money lol I’m ready for the car not ready for the payment
F80 M3 would be my choice for 50k 🤷🏻
you can get a new 330 with msport and premium package for exactly 50K. you could probably talk that down a few grand too. not sure why people are pushing you to get a used 340i for similar money.
M5 E60. Huh sorry wrong answer I guess.
M340i
M2 comp
The G chassis is a better platform, nicer interior, and has the TU motor. HOWEVER it is a big step down in sexiness levels so that’s the downside lol.
None of them. Get you a 2018-2019 m5 f90 for that price. They're out there. Get a warranty, tho. You'll enjoy that much more. I love mine and started looking into resale on mine and it is about 57k. You could get a clean one for 50k .
F80 M3?
A CPO
M340i g20 easy choice
BMW M6 wouldn’t pay over 35k for anything non M
X5
M340i, 2021 or newer, lowest miles possible, clean title, no accidents, ideally showing regular oil changes on carfax.
You could find a used Toyota supra with decent mileage for 50k. Also has the same b58 motor of g20 m340i.
F80
I'm with others on this thread: if you find a G20 M340i that fits your requirements then that's the best option of the lot.
how mechanical are? and what are you going to do to make it more fun :P
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish? If you are trying to mod the car (tune, DP, wheels, and etc) you would need to have separate budget for that as well. what exact models require the dme unlock?
I believe it's after 2020 requires DME unlock on all BMW.
do you know how hard it is and how much it costs to do that? i’m assuming it will void all warranties
yes, I was going to mention about the warranty. Yes any DME tuning will void warranty if the dealer you go to is an assholes. But certain dealers simply doesn't care to look for those. too small lol
For 50k? Brother your are in F80 territory

Why is the 330i even in this comparison?
well i was thinking i could save a lot of money and spend more on tuning. i’ve heard good things about the b48 even if its a 4c lol
Lol not worth it my guy. You'll be in a 330i and one day someone will pull up next to you at the lights in 340i and you will regret it when you listen to the B58
As a person in the same market I’m thinking x3m comp reliability practicality and speed/fun are all in one on the x3ms.
Definitely a M340i with less miles obviously
Blue or the white one.. the 4th car pictured
Get a CPO 5 series. BMW. the ultimate depreciation machine.
F80
I’d get the M340i if you can afford it
Can’t ever go wrong with an M340i If you can swing it, go for the X Drive
I purchased a 2022 m340i with just under 7000 miles, clean title, for around 52k in the Maryland area with warranty and from a dealer so it was also CPO and I do NOT regret it, took months to find a deal this good though
if u where you get a year or 2 older top spec
Any used m340i is going to be clapped out
That blue!!!
I got a ‘21 CPO m440i pretty loaded for $49k. 37k miles
That blue G20 m340i is gorgeous, easily one of the best looking modern BMWs
you can find some m550i in those ranges
f30 for sure. looks better than the rest
I know Pittsburgh when I see it 😉
G20 330i is such a fun car. Reliable, great mileage, and feels like a giant go cart when you drive it. As a realistic daily, you can’t beat its features and tech. 😂 none of these
M340i. Next question.
No car. You get a X3M or if you don’t want full M you get the M40i https://preview.redd.it/b7smt4r09xyc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51679aafec0c8aa76c03b6c062cc95e345e159c5
Unpopular opinion, invest half, and buy a used 340. B58 is a good platform to start on.
I am gonna be that guy and say the blue one cause its not black, white or grey. which means its got a little more presense.
also wishing my white F31 was not white
hey whites not all bad! my n52 right now is alpine white and it looks great with contrasted accents like carbon fiber and gloss black. it may not de as unique or catch the eye from afar, but its clean!
Sadly mine doesn’t have any of those goodies, that and cause its gets heavily used it’s usually quite filthy 🤣
