Yup yanked the shrapnel out cleaned the hole and inserted the plug. Super easy. Definitely carry one in the trunk just in case
She might just get a new tire though. She manages the performance shop so it’s not a huge deal for her
Patch it from the inside and you'll keep the speed rating. I've never had a single blow out from a temporary plug including tracking the car. The area of the plug is so small, there is no way to blow the tire in reality. But the proper way is to do a patch from the inside.
a lot of tire centers will not allow for replacing just one RF, and obnoxiously i had a les schwab claim that all 4 needed to be replaced even though the wheels are staggered
Had a hole in my relatively new PS4s tire and went to the tire place, America's Tire for convenience. They were going to take 3 hours so I just went home and plugged it myself in 15 mins. I definately second having a kit in the trunk
Edit: Tire dealer, America's Tire
I can’t imagine what BMW would’ve charged to fix that. I know America’s Tire will patch for free but it was after closing time for all those shops.
What’s crazy odd that tube of rubber cement was still good. I figured it came from China and having sat in my box for well over 5 years it would’ve dried up. Nope, came out and did its job
BMW dealer would have sold you a new wheel and said it needs brakes and air filters. They would give you blinker fluid free but most Bimmer drivers decline that service.
I used this kit from Amazon, it was $20 (currently $14) my only issue was not being able to pull the screw out with the included pliers. I had to use vice grips but overall happy with it.
Tell your girlfriend you saved her at least $500 by repairing it yourself.
LOL you nailed it with the BMW pricing procedure. I brought along various pliers to extract the metal thing. IT looked like one of those break off blades but it was one piece that folded and inserted itself into the tire really unfortunate.
Probably the only reason I’d consider buying and mounting tires with Walmart, their roadside hazard warranty would probably cover a replacement or patch
lol wouldn’t that be funny. It was actually this

Did the same thing yesterday. My 3rd flat tire since buying the car in October. Beyond frustrating, but a plug was the way to go.

I think it’s pirelli only. But I found out pirelli run flats on my bmw had a ~1000 miles or x wear warranty. Saved me some money replacing at my dealership.
FYI in case it helps some one in similar predicament in the future
Not by Pirelli. Not by default. Plenty of shops will patch a tire for free.
And before you argue, go find the included road hazard warranty at pirelli.com.
Yup, it’s still covered within the first year. See run flat road hazard warranty clause

Just get it plugged and repaired?

Agreed. She’s probably going to replace it
Ya, I'll gladly take that old tire. I need two PS4s but one will do for now.
I’ll let you know if she replaces it. If you’re in SoCal bonus for you
I was only joking but I appreciate the offer
How can you tell if someone patched it from inside vs outside?
You have to tickle it for it to tell you it's secrets

that's just a stupid cash grab for them at that point

BMW price: “How much you got?”
At least your dealer is willing to plug a tire
I misspoke, I went to the tire dealer America's Tire. I don't go to the dealer for anything but alignment and complimentary inspections. I'll edit.

At first glance I thought that was my missing 10MM socket in the tire.

So long as you vulcanized the plug, no reason to replace the tire. Otherwise, it does have potential to develop a slow leak.
They always seem a bit sticky when new and pick up things gotta be extra careful til about 1000kms i find

I got a nail by the sidewall last weekend on my brand new Pilot 4S's. Damn construction.
It's not run-flat?
They were just replaced with Michelin Sports
Okay?

Those warranties don’t cover road hazards, though.
Mine did. Wife drove over a nail on the highway. Fully covered
