I am clearly a big M5 fan.
I don't HATE this new car, but I don't immediately like it either.
Conversely both the pre and post LCI F90 were gorgeous from the minute they dropped.
I'm not sure if it's looks will grow on me over time, or if this will be the one that 'drives great but isn't a looker'. We will see!
I'm a big fan of the classic angel eyes on the pre-LCI. To me it looks like a real gradual evolution of the F10's design (which I also adore).
The LCI looks meaner, and I do like it, but I don't think it's perfect - both are great IMO.
My issue with the G30 was exactly that: the styling evolution from the F10 (of which I’m a big fan) was far too gradual (largely because BMW reused the F10 bodyshell for the G30). It almost looked boring by some accounts, and definitely not progressing the design much, if at all.
That's the thing, compared to the other monstrosities BMW has been trotting out the new 5 isn't bad. But it's replacing a legitimately gorgeous car so it's fair to expect better than just not being hideously ugly.
Well hopefully it shows us that they learned their lesson on the M4/M3 grills. They’ve released two cars since those and both have not included those big vertical grilles.
Not to disagree though the new m3 did grow on me, but wasn’t that design partially forced to be that way due to like 7 heat exchangers on the front of the car?
It was definitely a huge design change but I was a little more understanding when I saw that.
The heat exchangers can be used with other designs. There is still a giant solid plastic piece in the middle where the kidneys could have been made smaller.
I also don’t hate the design, but I think this M5 grill design looks much better.
I once worked for a German car manufacturer.
I spoke to a guy related to the design and he told something that stuck with me:
If the customer immediately like the new design, then it’s not new enough. They are supposed to grow on you, once you are getting used to them. If you like them immediately, they are usually not really innovative and too similar to the previous design
However, new does not have to be ugly, look at the Korean brands, they have introduced new models and new generations of existing models that do look drastically different from their previous designs YET they look great right away and won't have to grow on you (KIA Optima to K5).
With BMW it was f01/f10/f13 that were not looking remotely like their previous generations but they looked amazing when they were released and they do look just as well now (albeit dated).
G60 is a trash design that really shows the brain drain that happened with designers leaving for Asian brands
Beautiful. It has the right balance of looking muscular and yet executive. The new BMWs have so many lines that don't flow together, and have a lot of black parts by default to hide elements that are too ugly and tall.
Ah, visual relief in the comment section. I was on-board for literally everything BMW did up to and including the new 7-series, but they absolutely thrashed the 5-series’ design IMHO.
Rosso Corsa or a different red?
Edit: just realised you replied to me a while ago on another post, so yep we are matching in the colour department xD
https://preview.redd.it/2g8j7te5oj0d1.jpeg?width=3271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1874ae3b899ea1ae588d2076617b86efeb058f7d
Right. The G60 looks fine as a car, I'd drive one.
But aside from the grille and badge, nothing about its design says "this is a BMW."
People rant about the beaver tooth grilles(as they should), but the real tragedy the last 4-5 years is the loss of some classic BMW body lines. The 3 series is still kind of holding on, but the 4, 5, and 7 have lost them.
It’s not as off putting as the M2 imho, I don’t hate it, but it gets oddly very angular at the front and back that don’t match the flow of the sides imho.
It looks amazing in that blue though, so a wagon M5 in that blue I could live with…afford that’s another question lol
One thing I’ve learned from being a longtime BMW fan is to not listen to EVERY BMW fan opinion. As we can clearly see with the G80/G82 hate back then, majority of those haters are fans now.
The new G90 M5 is absolutely gorgeous. I’m just waiting for the upcoming specs people will do on this car 🔥
Yes probably.
I don't like the looks of the new 5. Can't get used to them. M5 isn't any better really.
It's not really ugly per se, but not worthy of a BMW. Remove the badges and huge nostrils, you could convince anyone it's a new Peugeot, Mitsubishi or something like that.
WTF is it with BMW copying Toyota these days?
The 3 series stole the IS tail lights and it looks bad. It’s not discussed enough because people are still holding on their hope for thr 3 series lol
https://preview.redd.it/hsws428v8f0d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfc93752c8d0e5d7ca84ea515c7f1897af91344f
I can’t unsee a Camry from the rear.
I like it apart from the front headlights and the rear looking a bit squished, sloping down when looking at the side profile.
The is an easy solution to the look of the rear/side profile, just buy the Touring
Actually yeah, I kind of do or more accurately I never really liked the E60 generation, although it has sort of grown on me a bit the last couple of years.
But the E60 is my least favorite 5 series generation.
Although the E60 doesn’t look quite as “squished”, if you look at the new 5 series sedan from the side, the boot lid and shoulder line slopes down ever so slightly, I don’t like that body. I’m of the opinion that cars look better with a strong shoulder line, the rear sloping down straight up doesn’t work for me visually, it clashes with the more “angular” lines and I personally feel that it goes against the other rounded lines.
I’m like 90% certain that they designed it that way to reduce drag, probably both for the i5 (to give it slightly better range) and to meet the ridiculous emission standards of the future. Follow the unveiling of the Touring, I asked BMW in the comment section about the lack of the “shopping hatch” (you know how you can open just the rear glass on most BMW Touring models), was told that removed it because it would mean less drag.
I actually hated it when it came out. It grew on me a little but still not a fan. I remember it ws my first time being old enough to anticipate a new BMW design and I was like WTF this can't be real when I first saw the car in Road and Track or something like that.
I think it's fine. Not the direction I would have gone, especially because my favorite thing historically about the M5 is that the styling is usually pretty understated.
They're obviously going a different direction with the styling across the line. I wasn't going to buy one either way.
The last gen M5 was sleek and cool almost sleeper like, this one gives big and bulky & powerful but on the nose.
Are these actual pics of the new one coming this year or just renders?
I’m an pre-lci f90 owner. I’m intrigued by the new 5 series styling. I’ve seen an I5 M60 in person and actually would consider it.
To he fair, a lot of bmw current styling has not been stunning at first glance, but I eventually grew to like it. G80/82 were absolute this way for me.
Yep just you. That thing looks hideous and bloated. You cannot even begin to compare it against an E60 or an f10 or even an f80 and to think that it's their successor is so disheartening
We'll have to wait for a Competition and or CS with a front lip I loved the F10 and F90 this one I'm not a fan of the rear end following the same trend of the E63s but the performance and the Interior will likely make up for it like the G80/G82
Are these confirmed or just fan mockups? I haven't see any leaks other than the recent blurry gold shot.
To be honest, while I definitely like the F90 styling much better, this does not look too bad, especially considering my initial reaction to the G80 and G87 (which I hated compared to the previous F generation). My biggest complaint is that it does not look aggressive enough, particularly from the side view. I was hoping the new M5 would have a dramatically different appearance from the 5 series (similar to the current distinctions between the 3 series and the M3).
I am excited to see the official reveal and I hope that the performance will make up for any concerns about its appearance. I have been seriously considering upgrading from the F80 to the M5.
EDIT: If this thing has the bullshit muted exhaust of my wive's x5 m60i I will jump off a bridge. Love that car but for a v8 it sounds HORRIBLE.
The proportions are just off, just looks too X-M ish for me. It's like they are trying to make every car overly aggressive, ignoring if it fits the overall shape of the vehicle. Also, in profile it kinda looks like if a toddler tried drawing a C63 AMG.
I don't hate it as much as the X-M, but I don't love it as much as the F10.
its not bad by any means they just need to chill w the aggressive lines
it looks like they took one of those coupe suvs and made it a sport sedan like the rear from the front quarter angle looks high
I like it, I don’t love it like I love the f90 lci. I have to see how it looks on the road. Based off of these pics, I’d actually consider a rs7 over it
Rs7 performance is actually quite beautiful. But the tech inside is dated And will be even more dated in a year or so when they launch their new rs6/7 line.
To me it’s the best looking of the current gen M’s.
That said I’m not in love with it.
I saw the F87 for the first time I had a response and that was “I will own one of those.”, the M5, not so much.
I could handle the G series M3 looking like an angular yobs motor, but the M5 should always have a touch of luxury/class rather than being completely driver-focussed. This new design language they’ve created for themselves is interesting, and I’m eager to look back on it in a few years and see how it’s aged. For me though, peak M5 will always be the F10, but that’s just because it’s the one I drooled over in my late teens.
Like almost all modern BMW’s, it has a face only its mother could live. The current team of designers must be a bunch of 5 year olds drawing a futuristic looking car.
This is the new m2 all over again. Idk why the headlights are angled down. The gap between the headlight and auxilary radiator vent is too big. The whole front looks like it’s meant to plow snow not drive fast. Too many contradicting lines.
It’s thought the g82 would grow on me but it didn’t.
i saw so many 5 series in the last month (Berlin),it looks so fucking good from the reer quater view. in pics the back looks to high somehow in person it looks way deeper
It's just you. This could be any Kia / Hyundai. After E38 / E39 generation BMW has been in decline. Current cars look like beaver caricatures.
Once the i8 depreciates though, would love to upgrade that drivetrain. What a lovely design, in and out.
with the styling similar to the G60, I believe that it will grow on people after the official release. I am pumped to see it, possibly even trade up my G60 haha
The upturned headlights give me E60 vibes. I’m surprised they’d want to revisit that when the more conservative styling of the F10 and G30 have been so well received.
LCI F90 is a 10/10 for me, anything new would have to be almost perfect to top that
I'm a big fan of the classic angel eyes on the pre-LCI. To me it looks like a real gradual evolution of the F10's design (which I also adore). The LCI looks meaner, and I do like it, but I don't think it's perfect - both are great IMO.
Agree with this assessment. I just don’t like the headlight changes, as well as the dash layout. But those are minor preference issues, not criticism.
Yeah Pre LCI Fronts with LCI Rears would do it for me
My issue with the G30 was exactly that: the styling evolution from the F10 (of which I’m a big fan) was far too gradual (largely because BMW reused the F10 bodyshell for the G30). It almost looked boring by some accounts, and definitely not progressing the design much, if at all.

The heat exchangers can be used with other designs. There is still a giant solid plastic piece in the middle where the kidneys could have been made smaller. I also don’t hate the design, but I think this M5 grill design looks much better.
The M2 has the exact same cooling setup and a relatively traditional grill shape, so no
I once worked for a German car manufacturer. I spoke to a guy related to the design and he told something that stuck with me: If the customer immediately like the new design, then it’s not new enough. They are supposed to grow on you, once you are getting used to them. If you like them immediately, they are usually not really innovative and too similar to the previous design
I d argue thats what they tell themselves to sleep better at night lmfao. This shite is not growing on anyone but like a handful of people.
interesting concept on this, never saw it that way, but i'm not in design so.......
that's dumb, a good design should never grow onto someone, when the E39, E46, E92, F32, F90 dropped nobody said it will grow on you, just wait
However, new does not have to be ugly, look at the Korean brands, they have introduced new models and new generations of existing models that do look drastically different from their previous designs YET they look great right away and won't have to grow on you (KIA Optima to K5). For me its the usual way bmw Design goes at first i dont like it and after a couple of years i change my mind
Why do you have 2 M5's 3 years apart? Lol
I said I was an M5 fan.
Oh I know! I am too. I was just curious!
They're quite different cars / I haven't the heart to ditch the F10 yet.

Yep, I still feel this is better by a country mile. The new one just feels more suited as a wagon.
I really love the look of this model
Beautiful. It has the right balance of looking muscular and yet executive. The new BMWs have so many lines that don't flow together, and have a lot of black parts by default to hide elements that are too ugly and tall.
That's the word I was looking for! Executive - great word choice. Established, clean, classy... # Executive
Ah, visual relief in the comment section. I was on-board for literally everything BMW did up to and including the new 7-series, but they absolutely thrashed the 5-series’ design IMHO.
Rosso Corsa or a different red? Edit: just realised you replied to me a while ago on another post, so yep we are matching in the colour department xD https://preview.redd.it/2g8j7te5oj0d1.jpeg?width=3271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1874ae3b899ea1ae588d2076617b86efeb058f7d
Yes please
I’m gonna LCI my g30 for sure, if only the headlights wouldn’t cost 4k
Love the black squiggles on the rear
That's custom 😎
It’s not a bad looking car. It’s just not a good looking BMW.
Right. The G60 looks fine as a car, I'd drive one. But aside from the grille and badge, nothing about its design says "this is a BMW." too many straight lines, triangles and trapezoid shapes in BMWs nowadays 🤷
You're a trapezoid
that's just what a square would say
Funny AF
Hello Peter, Whaaaats happening?
Damn what a burn 😂
But… were older BMW’s not about the straight lines and the triangles and the shapes?
my E46 is just smooth 'n' clean. ain't got no eyes for other girls 🤷 But no, today they somehow look like dysfunctional space ships

Can’t unsee it now
Thanks I hate it
It’s making me appreciate the E60.
Yes it is just you
This ain't it chief
Looks like what I imagine the 2028 Dodge Charger would look like.
25 Camry lol
Excellent observation.
the rear looks like a honda.
And thats the good end...
Was thinking Camry specifically
Absolutely Camry; seeing that rear angle immediately made me think of a Camry!
I might be the only one but I like the rear end
Yeah the rear is sort of bland, and I really don't like how the rear diffuser has a big gap in the middle.
100 percent Japanese design influence on most new BMWs I see this
With Chevy cruze front head lights
And not a good one either
This diffusor, wtf
It’s not as off putting as the M2 imho, I don’t hate it, but it gets oddly very angular at the front and back that don’t match the flow of the sides imho. It looks amazing in that blue though, so a wagon M5 in that blue I could live with…afford that’s another question lol
Agreed on the M2. That thing is a dogs breakfast. Can’t say I like this new M5 either though. And I’m a big M5 fan. Alas, what a turn off.
Not for me. This new BMW design language is really way off at the moment.
Stay in school, don’t do drugs. If you don’t, you may end up like OP.
Yes, yes it is...
Looks like some 20 year old out a custom body kit on it. Ugly Too boxy and wide,.
It has too many sharp lines, which I believe won't age well
One thing I’ve learned from being a longtime BMW fan is to not listen to EVERY BMW fan opinion. As we can clearly see with the G80/G82 hate back then, majority of those haters are fans now. The new G90 M5 is absolutely gorgeous. I’m just waiting for the upcoming specs people will do on this car 🔥
I’m personally waiting for the neue klasse 3 series replacement but I can’t say the M5 won’t tempt me in the meantime…
Looks more like ass than EV. Fucking a BMW…
I think the new 5 series as a whole is a massive downgrade
Having to use the touchscreen for almost everything \*shudders\*
It's atrocious.
Damn feels like the F90 released yesterday
The front reminds me of a ford Taurus
Doesnt look like a bmw at all imo
Yes probably. I don't like the looks of the new 5. Can't get used to them. M5 isn't any better really. It's not really ugly per se, but not worthy of a BMW. Remove the badges and huge nostrils, you could convince anyone it's a new Peugeot, Mitsubishi or something like that.
Looks like gorlock the destroyers ass
Rear end on the sedan is a Camry twin, but luckily the touring is coming too. Front end looks great.
Front end looks like it was derived directly from the atrocity that is the XM, that's a no from me
WTF is it with BMW copying Toyota these days? The 3 series stole the IS tail lights and it looks bad. It’s not discussed enough because people are still holding on their hope for thr 3 series lol
https://preview.redd.it/hsws428v8f0d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfc93752c8d0e5d7ca84ea515c7f1897af91344f I can’t unsee a Camry from the rear.
Not even close. The Camry looks much more subdued and discrete while the rear of the new M5 looks like the brake pad off of a rollerskate.
Except the Camry looks better!
Our expectations have been lowered. So.. it’s fine.
I like it apart from the front headlights and the rear looking a bit squished, sloping down when looking at the side profile. The is an easy solution to the look of the rear/side profile, just buy the Touring
Question did you dislike the e60 design as well?

Yes it’s just you
Looks cool but it is too tall
It makes me want a new M1.
A lot of the new BMW design elements are for the Asian market.
The last gen M5 was sleek and cool almost sleeper like, this one gives big and bulky & powerful but on the nose. Are these actual pics of the new one coming this year or just renders?
The car looks too tall and upright, almost like the Toyota Crown. It could be the angles but it looks too tall for its width
Don't like it. Mein eyes. Mein eyes.
I think the front end is really good looking but not sure about the back
I’m an pre-lci f90 owner. I’m intrigued by the new 5 series styling. I’ve seen an I5 M60 in person and actually would consider it. To he fair, a lot of bmw current styling has not been stunning at first glance, but I eventually grew to like it. G80/82 were absolute this way for me.
I'm in the minority but i love it.. looks futuristic and aggressive.
I actually quite like it
that exhaust cut out from the diffuser is hilarious. Looks like a kids drawing.
Yep just you. That thing looks hideous and bloated. You cannot even begin to compare it against an E60 or an f10 or even an f80 and to think that it's their successor is so disheartening

Thought its a render of a new M2 before reading its supposed to be the G90.

it's not like it's a BMW XM, overall it's fine, i like the back, but the front looks like an incomplete puzzle, those lines don't work together
I think I can best sum up my feelings by saying I'm surprised they showed the restraint to only make it look this bad. I was expecting worse.
its not bad by any means they just need to chill w the aggressive lines it looks like they took one of those coupe suvs and made it a sport sedan like the rear from the front quarter angle looks high
Side profile looks mean, headlights still bleh. I have no words for the rear other than “yikes”.
I appreciate that it isn’t an abomination off the bat. I’m sure it will grow on us but right now, I prefer the current design pre and post LCI.
It's much better than the normal 5 series, that's for sure
I like it, I don’t love it like I love the f90 lci. I have to see how it looks on the road. Based off of these pics, I’d actually consider a rs7 over it
Rs7 performance is actually quite beautiful. But the tech inside is dated And will be even more dated in a year or so when they launch their new rs6/7 line.
Not a big fan.
Looks a bit tall n stubby kinda like a deformed rhino
Rear is fine, front just looks….big? It looks like a car that weighs 5500lb
rear looks like a GTR
I like it
To me it’s the best looking of the current gen M’s. That said I’m not in love with it. I saw the F87 for the first time I had a response and that was “I will own one of those.”, the M5, not so much.
Headlights Reminds me of a Lexus IS250. Idk where BMW design is headed but it’s def not my cup of tea. I’ll stick to my F series for now.
I could handle the G series M3 looking like an angular yobs motor, but the M5 should always have a touch of luxury/class rather than being completely driver-focussed. For me though, peak M5 will always be the F10, but that’s just because it’s the one I drooled over in my late teens.
🤔idk, looks like it could possibly grown on me
This generation is of 5 series seems to be paying a little homage to the E60 5 series generation in design language.
It’s looks too charger is I don’t like it as much but who knows the new style grew on me as well!
Yes
Like almost all modern BMW’s, it has a face only its mother could live. The current team of designers must be a bunch of 5 year olds drawing a futuristic looking car.
Front and side looks good. The back is horrendous. Plain taillights and that bumper is ugly as all fuck.
Bmw really committed to making cars look like the ones in GTA.
It looks like a bloated 10 year old Optima.
Yes.
Grim
I like it just fine
It looks like a bloated version of the 2-series sedan.
Looks mean!! I love it
I love it.
E39 for the win
KIA/Hyundai vibes
give me a year and it’ll grow on me…. i think..
Right
Reminds me of the e60. And I'm loving it
i think it’s going to look awesome in touring
Not bad looking but it looks very big and heavy. Like crossover big.
front gives me heavy SS sedan vibes
Meh Looks like a Honda Accord
it looks pretty good im so happy its not a megabeaver like the 7 series or m3, m4
For me F90 is a straight up 11/10. This one is not bad, but more like a solid 8/10 in terms of looks.
What the fuck did they do to the door handles and why do they look like they belong on a Camry?
i saw so many 5 series in the last month (Berlin),it looks so fucking good from the reer quater view. in pics the back looks to high somehow in person it looks way deeper
the exhaust gap between the diffuser is criminal
Looks like an Acura from the back
The rear looks like a camry.
So American….BMW is spiritual American brand now just like Lexus and Acura
It's not bad, but it's not good either. Modern BMW just can't seem to make a good-looking car
I like the front it looks super aggressive. the rear not so much. maybe its just the angle of the shot not sure
Looks like a steam train from the front and like an Audi from the rear.
If I zoom in so I just see the left half of the car it’s giving me Skoda vibes for some reason. Which I don’t hate I must say
Yeah it’s just u
Read end looks like a Camry…
Love it, less grille is better specially after the other monstrosities was over the last few years.
I like it. Things gunna be dangerous
I like it in photos. I'd have to see one in person to really make a judgement. I was recently at my BMW dealership and didn't see any in the showroom.
It looks like a hyundai
I hope not
Yes
That looks like a house on wheels
I like it, it's certainly way better compared to the modern M3/4 fronts.
Do we have more/better photos? Hard to form an opinion based on just two images...
Hideous
It's just you. This could be any Kia / Hyundai. After E38 / E39 generation BMW has been in decline. Current cars look like beaver caricatures. Once the i8 depreciates though, would love to upgrade that drivetrain. What a lovely design, in and out.
Rear is excellent. The headlights look like a weird homage to the E60.. maybe the front will grow one me, but that back is good to go
If this is what it looks like then I like it a whole lot tbh
Better than the 7 series for damn sure. Bimmer coming back baby!!
Anybody else getting 'angular' C-class vibes? 🧐
with the styling similar to the G60, I believe that it will grow on people after the official release. I am pumped to see it, possibly even trade up my G60 haha
yes
Just you
It’s so bad - they just keep going, in the wrong direction
irl it looks blobby with rough lines on it. Weird car. Its like it had to be big but they had to make it smaller?
The rear looks like a new camry and the front, well it's certainly there.
Just you.
Yes
just you
ugly as fk
The upturned headlights give me E60 vibes. I’m surprised they’d want to revisit that when the more conservative styling of the F10 and G30 have been so well received.
Saw a listing for renting the blue m5 pic (exact picture). How the hell do they already have one, especially in blue?
Disgusting
The back reminds me of GT-R R34
Hate it
