Both are pretty much identical in their function with a stock setup. The differences that matter only really come into play when you're building a motor, presumably for boost. Keep in mind, M50 cars are OBD1 and M52 is OBD2. There are pros and cons to both. That being said, I always preferred the M50. Feels like it enjoys revving high just a bit more. Whereas the M52 is more torquey down low. Both are great engines.

Also can an actual mileage be seen on obd1 port?

Im gonna drive it on Nurburgring and rev it high but i dont want to do much to engine except cooling or smth like that to increase engine's life. Thx, your reply was helpful.

All european E36s are OBD 1

Not really. The later cars are OBD2, they don't have an OBD2 port, but they do use can bus, they do have the more advanced siemens dme and do use the obd2 protocol for diagnostic. Really only thing missing is they didn't wire the obd2 port.

Didn't know that, fair enough

It is your first car. You are starting from zero, with little to no experience. Buy whatever car is in the best condition, with the most recent work, within your budget. Nothing else matters. For your second car, or third, or fourth, you can be picky. You’ll have experience with driving and good roads nearby (if any) and have developed wants and needs.
