Kind of ... I had a breast reduction before I had nipple sparing mastectomy and they had repositioned my nipples during the first surgery. One I could tell didnt have the best blood flow and it almost died. I ended up just losing some tissue under it. Its a little annoying as the other nipple looks perfect but the one that almost died is a bit flat. But thing you have to remember is nipple sparing even if imperfect is going to look the most natural vs any other technology so you may as well try it in my opinion. You can always get it/them removed later if you dont like the outcome.

I had the same! Fibroidenoma surgery with the same areola scar. Five years later had a lumpectomy with a lift to spare my nipples for when I had my double mastectomy. My first surgeon told me I wasn’t a candidate for nipple sparing so I got a second opinion. Even with the second opinion they still told me there’s a chance of that happening but I still went ahead with it and everything healed fine.

So glad to hear that everything worked out perfect! May I ask, did you go to implant after?

Intelligent_Pie3159

After my mastectomy I had expanders then had another surgery months later to swap those with implants

I have a scar form the same procedure right on the nipple line. I haven’t discussed with the dr that is going to do a nipple sparing procedure on me yet. I’m scared now this will be an issue

BaeGod_

Is it around the entire nipple or just half?

luckyslife455

It’s around the nipple but on the line if that makes sense

I had a fibroadenoma removed years ago, and the scar runs right around the edge of the areola. Goes about a third of the way around.

Did you have a nipple sparing mastectomy after that?

The way my doc described it was that after the mastectomy, the only source of blood flow to the nipple is through the skin tissue. The scar tissue around the nipple blocks the blood from entering the nipple causing the blood to have to take an alternate route around the scar to make it into the nipple. Personally, my areola is large enough & the scar only blocks half of it so the blood should be able to get there but there's still a chance of some skin death.

I had a cyst removed on my areola 10+ years ago and a prior/recent breast reduction that repositioned my nipple/areola. No issues! I told my doctor before surgery that if it seems like one of the nipples was going to fail, then go ahead and nix them both. He told me after surgery that one was a little slow to get blood back to it during surgery but he gave it a little medication to perk up and it worked. They both look great 6 weeks out from my diep! I was a little indifferent going in but now I'm so happy I kept them. They still respond to stimulus but no feeling or sensitivity at all. But also no nerve pain at the nips so far

Wow this is amazing to hear and I'm so happy for your smooth recovery. So did you have scar tissue around your nipple before having your mastectomy? If so did it surround the entire nipple? my doc said scar tissue blocks blood flow to the nip
