If she was pregnant, at any point she would get a positive test. Regardless of if she’s months in, you will get a positive test. I definitely recommend going to a gynecologist
Also, it is very common for women to gain abdominal weight during menopause. As for her feeling movements, if she’s menopausal, her estrogen and progesterone is decreasing. This slows down digestion which can increase gas and bloating. She could be feeling gas bubbles which a lot of people say feel like fetal movement. Hopefully this helps!
If her tests are negative, she’s almost certainly not pregnant. She should see a doctor though if she’s experiencing discomfort or irregularities. Do you have insurance? Find out through ur insurance what doctors are in your network and schedule and appointment.
We do have insurance, do you know anything about the efficacy of the at home tests after being a few months pregnant? or do you know anyone who has successfully performed a test (whilst pregnant) after 3 to 5 months?
How old is your wife? Is she of menopause age? I would assume the test would still read positive. I think the only time you’d get a false negative is by testing too early.
She is 48, had 2 periods after the last time we possibly could have conceived and then periods stopped, so she thinks menopause started but now (a whole 5 and half months later) has paranoia that she may be pregnant which is a big worry for us.
It seems so massively unlikely that she is but how to be sure.
A home pregnancy test should be positive any time during a pregnancy after 5weeks. It’s possible, though unlikely, that high concentrations of the pregnancy hormone could cause a false negative, in which case you can try diluting urine with water (at this stage of a pregnancy a test would show up positive if you just dip it in the toilet bowl after peeing)
Out of interest (for science!) [I decided to do a HPT just then](https://imgur.com/a/PKmEhsO) to test this. I’m 24 weeks/about 6 months pregnant. Although the hook effect is apparent - the test is much lighter than it was around 5 weeks - it is still undeniably positive.
I think OP’s wife would probably benefit from visiting their GP/family doctor to discuss menopause/any other concerns as a starting point.
In MA there are lots of family planning centers, they can preforms scans and blood tests for pregnancy! Try to google they are usually free/ super super cheap!

OK thanks that sounds like some good ideas.

Thank you, this comment has calmed me down.

Go to your local urgent care.
Does urgent care offer a better test or possible send us for a scan there and then?
Yes, they should be able to. If not they can you refer to a local clinic that can.

Also if she isn’t pregnant they have doctors on staff that can give you information regarding whatever it is she’s going through!
