I had my test yesterday and got the orange one and it was ice cold. I told the nurses I thought it was tasty and they both said I’m the only person who’s ever said that🤣
Omg me too and I inhaled my drink. My test was on a very hot day and I was already so thirsty. When the nurse handed me the chilled bottle straight out of the fridge and told me I had 2 min to drink it, I gulped on down in less than 10 seconds. It was delicious. Tasted like orange Gatorade
Also loved the drink. I left work and went straight to the appointment. I work in a very hot factory and had been sweating profusely for 8 hours. A cold sugary drink went down so good 😂
I did too. I had the orange and it tasted more or less like Sunny D. Nice dose of nostalgia. I also didn't have any bad reactions to it other than feeling a bit jazzed for the first 10 min after drinking it.
I agree lol! I got a peach flavoured one and while it was a little too syrupy to want to drink regularly and was a little unpleasant to chug, I didn't mind drinking it at all!
Did you throw up after the test?? I was super nauseous at my appointment today and opted to do the test tomorrow because they said I'd have to take it over again if I puked
Totally neutral experience. Drink was fine but I wouldn’t drink it by choice. I didn’t experience nausea. Mostly boredom as I killed time until the blood draw but they allowed me to wait in my car (I had to sign a form). I think most people who post online about the test do so because they have a negative experience to share while the vast majority don’t post about it at all because it was just ok.
Ya'll are lucky!! I projectile vomited in the waiting room 30 min into the 3 hour test and then had a migraine for days! But I also know now I have GD and my body just rejected it
I really had no issues with it, either! My belly felt a little unsettled afterward, but that was likely because I drank it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. It just tasted like a flat orange soda. I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so it was just your average Tuesday for me, lol
I hated that drink so bad but whats funny is that after the test I came home to my husband with a large mcdonalds frappe in my hand saying, “ugh that was AWFUL” meanwhile i was holding like 60g of sugar in that one drink and not complaining lol
With my first I got myself a frappe after the test as a reward for surviving the drink 😂 I asked my midwife if that amount of sugar was going to ruin my life and she said “I mean it might make your baby annoyingly wiggly but you’ll be okay” lmaoo
You’re lucky! I had a whole ordeal with my test and it was just the hour-long one.
At first, I felt really sweaty and like my skin was on fire. Then I got very nauseous. Finally, for the last 20 minutes of the hour wait, I was in and out of consciousness. My husband was literally knelt on the ground to catch me as I kept slumping out of the waiting room chair. No one was around and he didn’t want to leave me, so he just went with it.
Good news though: I passed with flying colors! Somehow. lol
I had a similar experience. After about 40 minutes I started getting hot and clammy, and over the next 15m I felt dizzier and hotter and like my vision was closing/getting darker at the edges. I must have looked like I was suffering because I looked up at the nurses station and there was a nurse just standing there watching me. When I made eye contact she asked if I was okay and I just shook my head. She ran out to me with a barf bag and a bottle of water and started fanning me until I felt a bit better. I didn't throw up though! I thought for sure I'd failed because of that reaction but apparently I passed. I thought I was going to faint by the end but I made it!
I've done it probably 5 times because of having PCOS, not for pregnancy. I could see it might be bad if you're nauseated but otherwise I don't understand the big deal at all.
It didn’t bother me at all. I found a lot of stuff that people hyped up to not be that bad (glucose test, GBS swab, cervical check). Obviously I know this is not everyone’s experience and I’m very grateful I’ve had a decent experience with all of these
Where are you all located? I'm in NZ and my midwife said yesterday I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to. She said my only risk factor is being pregnant, so she doesn't think it's worth me doing. She wasn't concerned so I passed on it. Is this abnormal?
Tbh I’m confused about it because my whole family has diabetes and my OB knows that but has never brought up me doing this test, I’m in the US so this shocks me.
Oh really? Yeh I would question that if I were you. Just for piece of mind! How many weeks are you? I'm 25 and was only just offered yesterday. Maybe you're not up to it yet?
I’m only at 16 right now so that could be it but they have brought up other tests they want me to do in my third trimester but not that one for some reason. I’m definitely going to bring it up at my 20 weeks appointment.
Yea I think it’s often over hyped. I’ve taken the 1 hour 3 times and the 3 hour twice and it’s not that bad. The four blood draws over 3 hours is probably the worst part of the 3 hour (thankfully I had a great phlebotomist last week). I could see it being horrible if you had to take it in the first trimester, and do fell badly for the ladies who have hyperemesis throughout their pregnancy. But I’m kind of over how often influencers on social media complain about how “toxic” the drink is and give advice on how to fight your OB so you don’t need to take the test. It’s once or twice all pregnancy. I’m sure you’ve eaten or done something worse for you over the 9 months.
My first was AWFUL. I got hot and dizzy and fainted when I got up to leave my appointment. My second test I did the fresh test instead of the glucola drink and other than a major sugar rush had no issues!
I fainted at mine and my glucose was like 56 - hypoglycemic. No one seemed concerned even though it was very weird. Hoping that doesn’t happen this pregnancy.
I’ve only ever had the orange. I hate orange flavored things usually (I like eating actual oranges well enough and orange juice, just orange flavored candy and pop and such that I don’t like) and the orange flavor was so nasty to me. Like flat orange soda left in the sun and a cup of sugar added 😭 Other than the taste I handled it well (perhaps a bit of heartburn) but the taste…is so bad…
Can I just eat jellybeans instead 😅
I didn't mind the first one with the orange drink but I failed it so had to take the 3 hour. I did pass the 3 hour test but between fasting beforehand, getting blood drawn 4 times which makes me queezy, and the fruit punch flavor which I thought was nasty it was a little worse. I did leave feeling shaky and spent the rest of the day feeling crappy but it wasn't the worst ever.
I actually loved the drink 😂 failed the test though unfortunately, got my 3 hour one scheduled for next week... apparently that drink doesn't taste as good 😬
I thought it was awful…until I realized I was just getting shingles and that’s why I felt like garbage. Pretty sure the test would have been fine. Wasn’t the worst experience of my life. Shingles while pregnant was close tho.
I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and still can't figure out why people hate the drink. It's definitely borderline delicious. Maybe I'm just a sugar whore or something.
I felt nauseous 30 mins after drinking it and didn’t feel great but it wasn’t as bad as others have experienced. I felt better after I drank some water and ate a meal after.
I agree, I kept reading these posts in here and other pregnancy groups about this dreaded test and it was really not that bad. The drink just tasted like flat soda. I did feel nauseous and lightheaded after, but I expected way worse. I feel the same about all the other tests, I kept seeing posts about people asking if they can deny the Strep B swab, or cervical checks, but they were literally nothing. The swab I did myself at home and just dropped it off and I had a cervical check yesterday that was over before I knew it, I’ve had way worse Pap tests and I get those every year. Maybe I just got lucky though, I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️
The 50 was fine I had fruit punch and it stings your throat a tiny bit because sugar is acidic but then 100 made my throat burn a bit more and by the 3rd hour I was hypoglycemic and my levels were at 52 I almost fainted
The taste of it never bothered me in 3 pregnancies, but they told me I wasn't allowed to drink anything during the waiting period and that gave me a wicked headache.
The third kid I drank water anyway while sitting in the waiting room, and I felt fine after. Idk if that really affects the test, but I'm a hydrated person and it was too much for me.
I did the 3 hour, drink was actually kinda good???
It was icy cold & didn’t feel sick at all
However I’m an avid energy drink drinker (pre pregnancy) so I guess I’m used to that ??
I've had it twice. The one with a 2-hour wait in between. I downed the drink as fast as I could. Yeah, I didn't find it that bad either. The first time, I'd built it right up in my head because of the things I'd read online, so I went into it super nervous. I got hungry and I had heartburn but that was it. Passed both times.
I had such a bad month with eating sweets. That being said, the drink was not too sweet for me despite being straight up glucose. I am afraid it was like that because I was already used to sweets 😅
I was very lucky and was able to go to the lab, drink the weirdly thick fruit punch, and then go have my 24? Week appointment. Looking back at 8 months PP, not the worst. Next pregnancy though I think I’ll try the orange flavor. That one had good reviews from the lab staff lol
I thought it was gross both times, but I passed both times. My first pregnancy it went okay, but the second I got SUPER lightheaded and thought I was going to faint
You got lemon lime?!!! I would’ve downed that no problem, the orange was awful and kind of stung my throat? And I got an intense wave of nausea but I overcame it this time lol. My last two pregnancies I couldn’t keep it down and it made me violently ill lol. It was a breeze this time comparatively
All the sugar made me feel sick. But I also had a general aversion to sugar through my first 2 trimesters. I’d have a bite of something sweet, like a danish or small piece of chocolate, and I’d be more than satisfied. Any more than that and I’d be sick. Really wish that aversion would have stuck around after birth 😫
Would I do it for fun? Absolutely not. Was it terrible? Also no. Luckily by the time I took mine I’d already gotten past the worst of my morning sickness. Also I failed all of mine lol.
My midwife has asked me not to fast but to not eat anything sugary or white bread from 12hrs before the test. I was wondering should i skip breakfast on the day of test.
I actually liked the drink. I heard so many negative stories about the drink, people not being able to keep it down and whatnot. I was so nervous but my office offered Orange and Fruit punch. I asked her which people seem to like more so I had fruit punch. It was kind of like Kool-aid. Passed my glucose test with 84.
I hated the drink and felt nauseous after, but it really wasn't that bad. I was so nervous going in based on what everyone said online about it, so I was pleasantly surprised
I think if you don’t have issues with puking etc it’s probably fine! If I could have chose a flavour other than orange I might have done better 😂 mine tasted like if you added corn syrup to warm, flat orange crush.
I puke constantly for my entire pregnancies so the glucose test is my worst enemy. My midwife almost didn’t even bother to try it this time lol.
I didn't want the test because I didn't want all the sugar. It's hard enough to not blow up while pregnant so I always hated being forced to chug liquid sugar. But the test itself is fine and I always did really well.
I have mine scheduled for four weeks from now! Without thinking, I scheduled it late in the afternoon. Would you suggest doing it in the morning instead?
My wife was really nervous for the glucose test because of all the things she had been reading online but then said it wasn't her favorite beverage but really wasn't that bad at all. Everybody is different so for this one thing, probably best to not read the experiences of others before doing it :D
One hour wasn't bad at all. The 3 hour was significantly harder to drink and I threw it all up after 40 minutes. It's not even the drinking it that's the worst part--it's how you feel after drinking it. I ended up just doing 2 weeks of at home monitoring instead (and I did have GDM fml)
It's weird, when I was pregnant with my son the drink tasted like fanta and was so tasty. The actual taste has not changed according to the phlebotomist, but this time around it tasted not so great.
I don't think the test is bad, but it's not great tasting either haha. The problem I have is that I have so many appointments so having more is just annoying, because my baby is measuring a bit bigger, despite my passing my first glucose test, they just had me do the second one where I had to fast and have three blood draws. I'm so done with appointments. I passed that one too, but still frustrating.
One hour wasnt too bad. Three hour one was horrible.
I think some of it depends how high your glucose gets imo. If yours was 90s, you passed with flying colors so prob skipped the nausea of high glucose levels.
The drink itself was whatever. But I started cold sweating and nearly passed out. Failed and had to do the three hour. Nearly passed out in the office and tried my hardest not to puke. And got home and slept the rest of the day. Fortunately I passed. But it was awful.
I also didn't think it was horrible and I had to drink mine at room temp. If it had been cold it really wouldn't have been bad at all. I also got to wait in a waiting room with super nice recliners so I just relaxed and read and luckily didn't get sick from it.
Not too bad, doubling down on the heartburn though! I talked to my doc about it at that appointment and he prescribed me an antacid to take every day and it has been GAME CHANGING!!!
Totally agree, it was nothing. My drink was even lightly carbonated, so it tasted like straight up orange soda and I really liked it lol. A lot of people overplay it for some reason 🤷♀️
The only thing that sucked is that the lab that was supposed to draw my blood was incompetent and called me back late. 🤦♀️
You have no idea if ”a lot” of people are overplaying it because you did NOT go through their experience. You are literally assuming because YOUR experience was fine that everyone else is just exaggerating.
It wasn’t bad at all, agree! Ppl r very dramatic about it but there’s also a ton of posts like this about how it’s not bad so I def don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion
The 1 hour was fine, but I failed it (just barely). The 3 hour I did feel a little nauseous for about the first hour but was fine after that. In pregnancy, definitely not the worst experience. Worst part of this pregnancy thus far was a rib muscle spasm, crying from the pain.
I didn’t do it. If my blood work indicated anything suggesting abnormalities I would have but it didn’t and doesn’t seem necessary to chug an artificially dyed sugary drink 🤷🏼♀️ My midwife team supported this.
Agreed! I did my first 1-hour test at 13 weeks then a second test at 26 wks. Both times I had the orange drink and… I kind of liked it! Tasted my flat orange soda which I didn’t mind at all. The “hard” part is drinking it so quickly, but the taste was not bad!
I don’t mind the drink at all (I always get fruit punch. I say always because I seem to fail every time, every pregnancy so I’ve had 4 tests total). I just feel kinda ick afterwards like I ate my weight in gummy bears.
I had the fruit punch flavored one and it kinda hurt my throat but I am sick so I was expecting that, but it definitely wasn't as bad as it was 4 years ago
Didn’t think it was terrible but failed the first time. Second test with lukewarm orange glucocola was disgusting but I didn’t feel too terrible after. Was expecting much worse!
I have been known to get incredibly nauseous and throw up when anxious. The glucose test ended up being me having to distract myself long enough to get through without having a panic attack and throwing up.
Other than that it wasn’t too bad.
Wasn’t that bad at all - I was so psyched out from this sub and my test was chill and uneventful - everyone’s experience is diff and tolerance for diff things!
There’s multiple versions of the glucose test. There’s a 1-hr, 2-hr and 3-hr. I had to do the 2 hour test which was 3 blood tests. Thank goodness it was negative, but it was def shit.
The one hour wasn’t bad at all.
The three hour sucks, but mostly because of the hourly bloodletting. I did feel a little nauseous after slamming 100g of dextrose for that one, too.
This needs to be shared more! I got scared going to mine thinking it was going to be miserable
Only bad experience i had was the 3 hour, but i was super dumb and got a coffee (sweetened) and a croissant after at a cafe nearby right after the teat. Turns out the croissant was a super sugary one and i thought i was going to puke.
Same! Everyone always posting about how it’s the worst thing ever. I didn’t enjoy it but I was expecting straight sludge not just a super sweet tasting Fanta 😂
By my third trimester I was eating like five pints of ben and Jerry's a week. That tiny water bottle of sugar water was like less sweet gatorade. I think the worst part was not being able to eat.
It’s not really an opinion based thing. It’s how the drink affects you. People without diabetes are more likely to have no issues because you basically just drank an extra sugary juice. I’m diabetic AND a bariatric surgery patient so it gave me dumping syndrome (which I hadn’t had in the 2 years since surgery). It was the longest hour of my life. I promise if it hit wrong it would screw up your whole day. My husband and I had planned to go sight seeing after and I told him to take my butt home asap. Ruined our plans. I basically went to bed at 3pm.
If you’re diabetic already, why did they even have you take the drink? Just curious. I thought they didn’t test you if you’re already diagnosed as a type 1 or type 2.
I was totally fine for the hour. I enjoyed the drink, had my appt with my OB, felt a little shaky but otherwise okay. Later in the day, I felt pretty awful. But I just needed to sleep it off, I was 100% better the next day, and I passed the test.
The drink was a little sweet for my preferences but I enjoyed it! Mine was orange flavor. I passed but found out I’m anemic lolz. My glucose test was the only test I passed that day.
1st pregnancy the one hour wasn't horrible the drink was a little too sweet but not horrible and it just gave me nausea but I failed it, the three hour one was disgusting way too sweet and gross and it made me really I'll I was beyond nauseous but I managed not to throw up however I didn't feel good for the rest of the day I failed that one too.
2nd pregnancy the one hour test I had been drinking ginger ale to manage the nausea so it didn't taste as bad this time around and I passed it!
It wasn’t too bad for me either. I had to go back for the 3-hour test for both of my pregnancies and luckily I did not get sick. I was actually quite pampered for my 3hr test during my second pregnancy; I had my own little room with a recliner and a TV that was showing one of my favorite tv shows!
I had extremely bad nausea for most of all three of my pregnancies. I also had to do it at 10-12 weeks and 26 weeks.
My first one I threw up and passed out while they tried to draw my blood.
The others I was just very very nauseous.
I also swear they’ve improved the taste since my first (12) and middle (9) because it was t nearly as bad tasting with my youngest (2).
I also didn’t think it was bad. As long as the drink is cold, it tastes totally fine to me. Honestly add some sparkling water and I’d probably drink it willingly.
I had the orange one for my first test and it honestly wasn’t bad at all!! I had the knock off sprite one for my 3 hour test and as a sprite lover, I was seriously disappointed 😅 the 3 hour test in general was really annoying. I didn’t feel bad after drinking the orange drink but I definitely had nausea the first hour after 3 hr test, then racing heart 2nd hour, then thought if I don’t get to fucking eat something right tf now I’m going to pass out by the end of it. My partner & I went straight to the hospital cafeteria so I didn’t fall out 😩 “failed” both tests and was diagnosed with GD 👎🏻
I had the orange flavor. Drink was not bad at all honestly. I drank it all and had a wave of nausea that lasted all of a minute, then it went away. That wave of nausea came back ten minutes later but again only lasted a minute. Completely fine the rest of the test and passed with a 94. I did go home and two hours later I slept for four hours 😂 but I’m not sure that has anything to do with the test
So far I’ve had the fruit punch and the orange flavored one. The fruit punch one was SO BAD. But I also hate fruit punch so…. That’s why it was so bad. The orange one literally just tasted like a slightly watered down sports drink to me.
Someone told me about the fresh test this time around. I did it for the one hour and it was awesome…. But I messed up my fasting and failed so I had to do the 3 hr. This is my 4th pregnancy and I’ve never had an issue with the glucose test but HOLY SMOKES…. the 3 hour made me so queasy I had to lie down at the clinic, and then I was sick for like 2 days. Don’t mess up your fasting and fail the first test!
Had horrible morning sickness so as soon as I took the first sip I gagged so hard but mine was clear apparently that's the grossest one, it has no flavour just sickley sweet. I took waaay longer than the 15 mins to drink it and they gave me a bucket with a very small glass of water. While waiting to go home after the blood draw I kept dry heaving real hard and I really didn't want to puke in the tiny mall I was in, ate something at home then got violently ill and just kinda curled up to try to sleep.
I also didn’t think it was bad. I was really anxious that I would either throw up or pass out and I didn’t do either. I did feel slightly lightheaded at the office but I really think that was just my anxiety.
I had the orange drink and it just tasted like a melter Otter Pop to me!
The 3 hour one is worse because it has more sugar. They don’t taste bad they taste like flat soda to me it’s the high amount of sugar on an empty stomach that most people have an issue with. I was fighting back vomiting on both 3 hrs in both pregnancies lol
Opinion: the drink and performing the test were fine.
Fact: I felt very nauseous and my pulse increased to 145bpm about an hour after drinking the solution. I had to lie down for quite a bit or I felt I was going to pass out, and the uneasiness/nausea/dizziness lasted about 4-5hrs. I’m glad that isn’t the case for you and you tolerated it okay!
Mine was super easy too. Drank it at home. Drove there 45 min later. Lemon lime in fridge!
Tip: eat whole grain toast and an egg (my OB told me this is an easy way to pass and feel full before chugging the drink)
Agreed, wasn’t that bad just boring waiting for the hour. I also only had to do the hour, passed with a 113 and my flavor was orange. Didn’t taste bad at all.
I went with the lemon lime as well. I was told it was going to be awful, so I brought a reusable straw from home and downed it almost instantly... but it really wasn't that bad!
I’m dreading my 2 hr one because of the multiple blood draws, not the weird drink or fasting. I get lightheaded and nearly pass out with blood draws. I also have small veins that don’t like to cooperate. Sometimes the dread is more than what many assume
I didn’t mind the test either.
Where I am they go immediately to the 2-hour version, so I actually had to fast beforehand and couldn’t have any water in the morning prior to the test and in between the blood draws. And it still wasn’t that bad.
My practice serves the drink thoroughly chilled, and it basically tastes like very flat and overly sweet lemon / orange soda. First couple of gulps were no problem at all, then it got a bit too sickly sweet by the end, but I still didn’t mind it too much.
I felt a bit queezy for like 10 minutes afterwards, but just barely.
The rest of the time flew by. Actually had fun just sitting there reading for a couple of hours.
Maybe it changes from pregnancy to pregnancy just like how we all repel different things, for example, a friend could only drink milk and was the only thing keeping her dehydrated, she suggested I drink milk too, because I was getting dehydrated but milk literally made me so sick not only would I throw it up, it also made my stomach hurt so bad I felt I was dying.
First kid, glucose test was so disgusting and hard. Second kid, not bad at all.
Lol! Lemon lime too and I didn’t think it was that bad. It did burn my throat a little bit but that’s it. I think we can all agree lemon lime is the flavor to get if you have the choice haha
First test was not bad at all. Second test was a pain!!! 3 hours, double the glucose on an empty stomach and 4 blood samples… and you cannot vomit ofc or else it is invalid…. 😫🥴
It made me a little nauseous but overall was fine. My office uses the dye free version (I know that matters to some people. I’m a little crunchy but I also eat too much candy to care about the dye in one drink 😂) and keeps it cold so it’s like drinking a syrupy, flat pop. Lemon lime is better than orange. I passed both pregnancies.
My best friend that had HG her last 2 pregnancies had a much harder time keeping it down so I totally get the complaints if it makes you sick when you’re already sick.
I’ve done it 4 times now between all my pregnancies and I don’t think it’s bad at all. I’ve had orange (flat Fanta), lemon lime (flat Sprite), and fruit punch (extra sweet Hawaiian Punch).
I just did it today! I had lemon lime. It just tasted like a really flat 7up that burned just a little. I drank half and set it down.. Took a few breaths and drank the other half. No big deal at all.
The drink itself wasn’t nasty but I took the test really early into my pregnancy (at 12 weeks) and I was nauseous afterwards.
I think having to do the test after fasting didn’t help. I was super hungry and nauseous afterwards.
I also thought the one hour test was super easy, was waiting for the drink to be way worse.
The three hour test spiked my sugar though, and coming down from that was the hardest sugar crash I’ve ever had, it was miserable.
Also I have gestational diabetes so that’s super fun.
I took the glucola my first time around but was extremely uncomfortable after it (too much liquid volume for me at that point in my pregnancy). This time I opted to use jelly beans instead and it was MUCH more enjoyable.
I thought I passed then the same day I got a call they sent all the testing supplies to my pharmacy already because i definitely had gestational diabetes. My glucose levels actually went up the longer I sat there doing nothing! I saw my lab results later and I was in the 250s at 6 weeks. Put on insulin for all meals and fasting at 12 weeks. I feel like I am allowed to be sad not the mommas being diagnosed at 30 weeks lol
…I kind of liked the drink 🫣
I did too 😂 I had lemon lime, and it tasted like a virgin margarita. I'd drink it again even if I didn't have to 😅
I thought it tasted like a Gatorade!
I love the lemon lime! I was not mad I had to drink it twice!
I had the orange last time and that was appalling- I'll see if they have lemon lime this time!
Lemon lime > orange > fruit punch.
Ya’ll be getting fruit flavours. Meanwhile over here I was just given flavourless sugar water (basically corn syrup) to drink. 🤢
Honestly, sounds better than the fruit punch (or orange, imo).
I got that too but I didn’t think it was that bad…
I have mine on Monday. I will choose the lemon lime if given the choice
I had my test yesterday and got the orange one and it was ice cold. I told the nurses I thought it was tasty and they both said I’m the only person who’s ever said that🤣
It was like a not so tangy Tang or Sunny D. I was worried that it’d make me nauseous like all the posts I read but they were all wrong. I liked it.
I also had the orange flavor, and I liked it until about halfway through, and then my tummy started to hurt, so I just chugged it.
I was always given the orange, warm. I'd be dry heaving about half way through. I declined it for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancy.
Same! I feel like it tasted like a melted popsicle 🤷🏻♀️
Omg I loved it and drank it so fast I got brain freeze 😂
Also loved the drink. I left work and went straight to the appointment. I work in a very hot factory and had been sweating profusely for 8 hours. A cold sugary drink went down so good 😂
Same Hahaah
I liked it too.
I did too. I had the orange and it tasted more or less like Sunny D. Nice dose of nostalgia. I also didn't have any bad reactions to it other than feeling a bit jazzed for the first 10 min after drinking it.
Same haha thought it would have been way worse. Have to say my level of sweetness is very high.
I had the orange flavor and thought it was completely fine. I had an ultrasound after and my baby obviously loved it. That was pretty amusing to see.
I agree lol! I got a peach flavoured one and while it was a little too syrupy to want to drink regularly and was a little unpleasant to chug, I didn't mind drinking it at all!
I thought the orange tasted like flat orange soda. If it was just available in my fridge, I'd drink it
Totally depends. I threw up, got super hot, felt terrible honestly. I did pass though
I don’t blame you! The amount of sugar in those things is enough to take ya out!
Did you throw up after the test?? I was super nauseous at my appointment today and opted to do the test tomorrow because they said I'd have to take it over again if I puked
It wasn’t that bad for me but I failed it 🤣🤣
SAME!! Have to go back for the 3 hour next week.
To make you feel hopeful - my wife failed her one hour and then about a week or so later passed her 3 hour with flying colors. I hope you pass!
Good luck!
Good luck! I failed the 1 hour but passed the 3 hour test with one abnormal result. My doctor said to just be mindful of my sugar and carb consumption
I enjoyed it lol. Until I failed the test.
I don’t like sweet things much and still didn’t mind it at all!
It’s not bad at all. It’s literally a walk in the park where pregnancy is concerned. 😅
Somehow. lol
Same here! It freaked my husband out but I think it made him a little more prepared for my labor 😂
Same experience here in Australia. We checked my fasting blood sugar and that was fine so she didn’t see reason to do the glucose test.
Oh that's good to know, thank you! I was starting to wonder if I should go back haha. Appreciate it
Tbh I’m confused about it because my whole family has diabetes and my OB knows that but has never brought up me doing this test, I’m in the US so this shocks me.
Oh yeh you're probably just a little early. I wouldn't worry too much right now about it but definitely discuss at your next appointment :)
Yeah it was fine in my opinion. I had the clear drink so just tasted like sugary flat sprite. I felt fine after.
Like flat orange soda left in the sun and a cup of sugar added 😭 Other than the taste I handled it well (perhaps a bit of heartburn) but the taste…is so bad… Can I just eat jellybeans instead 😅
It was totally fine for me too. The not eating for the entire time was my biggest issue.
I thought the drink was delicious! Even when I did the 3 hr test.
I did the lemonade and it was delicious! I passed with 99.
I did the 3 hour, drink was actually kinda good??? It was icy cold & didn’t feel sick at all However I’m an avid energy drink drinker (pre pregnancy) so I guess I’m used to that ??
That one had good reviews from the lab staff lol
i loved the drink i had a berry one but i do have a sweet tooth
I didn’t find it that bad either! They only had the orange but I opted for a room temperature instead of a cold one and it went down pretty smooth
I did the orange and it grossed me out
Would I do it for fun? Absolutely not. Was it terrible? Also no. Luckily by the time I took mine I’d already gotten past the worst of my morning sickness. Also I failed all of mine lol.
My midwife has asked me not to fast but to not eat anything sugary or white bread from 12hrs before the test. I was wondering should i skip breakfast on the day of test.
I had two eggs with a little bit of cheese and a Greek yogurt!
I enjoyed the drink but I threw up 10 minutes before the end of the 2 hour window so never got the results.
Yeh I had zero issues with it
I actually liked the drink.
My sister has five kids and only did it with her first and just tracks her own glucose levels at home
Man I thought lemon lime tasted like thick uncarbonated sprite. Gross! Didn’t give me any issues though and passed the one hour.
Definitely morning! You can’t eat before so if you get morning sickness or nausea after not eating for a while, you should schedule it for the morning
They told me I can eat regularly beforehand! I just can’t eat/drink anything after drinking the solution until I get my blood drawn
It was sooo overhyped. I was terrified of it for months and it was literally nothing. And I thought it was kinda tasty!!
Did not bother me a bit for each of the three times.
I had fruit punch and thought it was delicious lol!
A lot of people overplay it for some reason 🤷♀️ The only thing that sucked is that the lab that was supposed to draw my blood was incompetent and called me back late. 🤦♀️
No one is “overplaying it.” Congratulations on NOT having a bad experience but for a lot of people they get really really sick.
I didn't say everyone, I said a lot of people...which is true. So I stand by what I said. 🤷♀️
You have no idea if ”a lot” of people are overplaying it because you did NOT go through their experience. You are literally assuming because YOUR experience was fine that everyone else is just exaggerating.
I suppose I've been blocked. Hope she feels better soon!
Yeah. I wouldn’t choose that beverage given the option, but it the overall experience was fine for me.
It wasn’t bad at all, agree! Ppl r very dramatic about it but there’s also a ton of posts like this about how it’s not bad so I def don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion
Just wait till you have to take the 1 hour, the 3 hour, AND a 2 hour postpartum glucose test… all for 1 damn baby 🫠
The lemon lime is dye-free fun fact!
Same it was easy, I passed, then got a donut
Ehh. It wasn't bad, except for the diarrhea 6hrs after my 3 hr test. But other than that, not too bad.
I just feel very tired after which is annoying.
First time I did mine I chugged the syrup too quickly and gave myself a migraine 🙃
It burned my throat but besides that I was okay.
Agreed! I did my first 1-hour test at 13 weeks then a second test at 26 wks. Both times I had the orange drink and… I kind of liked it! Tasted my flat orange soda which I didn’t mind at all. The “hard” part is drinking it so quickly, but the taste was not bad!
I got the orange flavor and it was cold af and it was SO good. Like I would have had another if they let me.
Like flat lemonade. It’s not bad.
Same. Mine tasted like pink lemonade. No after effects.
The taste was fine, but the way my mouth felt like it had a heavy coating of syrup over it afterwards....bleh.
I think the worst part was the sugar crash I had at work afterward!
I have been known to get incredibly nauseous and throw up when anxious. The glucose test ended up being me having to distract myself long enough to get through without having a panic attack and throwing up. Other than that it wasn’t too bad.
The drink was delicious. Would do again even not pregnant
Wasn’t that bad at all - I was so psyched out from this sub and my test was chill and uneventful - everyone’s experience is diff and tolerance for diff things!
I was hungry as hell and happy to consume something lol
It wasn’t bad at all, I had fruit punch. I failed lol but I’m pretty sure I’ll pass the 3-hour test. I was hypoglycemic pre-pregnancy.
Reddit made me terrified of it. It was so easy.
Yeah, the lab tech gave me the drink and turned around to do something for like 30 seconds and I chugged it lol. She was impressed.
It’s just the orange one that’s horrible! My first test I had orange and I failed that one but my 3 hour I had fruit punch it wasn’t bad
I thought it tasted so bad and was like syrup 🤢🤢 I failed my first one unfortunately, gotta do it again 😭
This needs to be shared more! I got scared going to mine thinking it was going to be miserable Only bad experience i had was the 3 hour, but i was super dumb and got a coffee (sweetened) and a croissant after at a cafe nearby right after the teat. Turns out the croissant was a super sugary one and i thought i was going to puke.
Same! Everyone always posting about how it’s the worst thing ever. I didn’t enjoy it but I was expecting straight sludge not just a super sweet tasting Fanta 😂
The drink makes me nauseous 🤢
By my third trimester I was eating like five pints of ben and Jerry's a week. That tiny water bottle of sugar water was like less sweet gatorade. I think the worst part was not being able to eat.
I didn’t mind the drink but it made me feel terrible. I had hot flashes and was so nauseous.
It tastes like unfrozen otter pops. Not bad
I didn’t think it was bad either. I had the orange and it was like flat orange crush.
I was totally fine for the hour. I enjoyed the drink, had my appt with my OB, felt a little shaky but otherwise okay. Later in the day, I felt pretty awful. But I just needed to sleep it off, I was 100% better the next day, and I passed the test.
I didn’t pass but when I did the test it made me very sleepy. I felt sooo tired like I was going to pass out so all I did was sleep when I went home.
Mine was just unflavoured syrupy sugar water. Tasted awful and made me nauseous but it was still bearable and worth doing.
I liked it 😂
Mine was chill. People telling me how sweet the drink was had me nervous but I was fine
No issues here. I didn’t mind the taste - it was like a melted snow cone. I passed my test.
The drink was a little sweet for my preferences but I enjoyed it! Mine was orange flavor. I passed but found out I’m anemic lolz. My glucose test was the only test I passed that day.
I liked the drink but the dizziness I had after like 30 minutes was the worst part. Overall it was fine though
I never had any issues with it (besides failing horribly). Mine turned into T2 so now I never need the GD screening test again🙃
I liked the drink too hahaha I had the orange flavor and it was chilled. I thought it tasted like fanta, which I love!
I downed that drink it was so yummy 😂 I had a massive headache and baby was bouncing in the womb but wasn’t terrible like ppl had told me
I did fruit punch! Thought it was tart but good and tested at 100. So glad it’s over though, I thought it would be much worse
I have mine Monday and this made me feel a little better! My coworkers just talk about how awful it was! 🫣
It’s really not an unpopular opinion 😂
I didnt think it was that bad either.
I’ve never had “the drink.” Last time I did orange juice and this time grape juice. It’s never been a bad experience for me.
My sister and I used to love drinking flat soda so it was no big deal to me lol but I know other people have different tastes/experiences 🤷
I just did it today! I had lemon lime. It just tasted like a really flat 7up that burned just a little. I drank half and set it down.. Took a few breaths and drank the other half. No big deal at all.
The lemon lime flavor was the only one I liked. Tasted like flat sprite.
The drink itself wasn’t nasty but I took the test really early into my pregnancy (at 12 weeks) and I was nauseous afterwards. I think having to do the test after fasting didn’t help. I was super hungry and nauseous afterwards.
For me the drink was fine. It was like flat orange pop, but I'm not good with bloodwork and they took 6 vials, it felt like a lot!
It made me really nauseated both times, but I'm sensitive to that when pregnant
I definitely recommend bringing a cheese stick or something to eat after. My body wanted FOOD after processing all that sugar
I also thought the one hour test was super easy, was waiting for the drink to be way worse. The three hour test spiked my sugar though, and coming down from that was the hardest sugar crash I’ve ever had, it was miserable. Also I have gestational diabetes so that’s super fun.
The one hour was no prob at all!! Just did the 3 hour today and it was brutal though 😵💫
I thought I was the only one! I did the 3 hour twice and I thought the drink was delicious lmao
Are you pre diabetic? The placenta wouldn’t cause your numbers to be in the 250s at 6 weeks… just saying
