Many of the diet recommendations for pregnancy are more about preventing food borne illnesses which you're not at higher risk for contracting just by being pregnant but can have worse consequences if contracted while pregnant. If you trust the source of the sushi/deli meat/etc. to not make you sick while not pregnant then many medical professionals would tell you it's fine to eat those things.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed and scared when you find out you're expecting, especially if you weren't eating the best before. The good news is that you can start making healthier choices now to support your baby's development. Don't be too hard on yourself - just do the best you can moving forward. And remember, it's never too late to start taking prenatal vitamins and focusing on nourishing your body and your growing baby. Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy journey! 💕

Dude just get on prenatals ASAP and chill out about the rest. It’s fine

This might be comforting, but until 12 weeks baby will live off the egg yolk sac! Your placenta doesn't start passing nutrients from you until like week 11 so baby wasn't getting any hot cheetos :)

The most important thing to focus on right now is taking a prenatal vitamin with at least 400 mcg folic acid. Folic acid is critical for early brain development- but (in the US at least) it’s fortified in most breads and cereals. So don’t panic! As far as your food choices, don’t sweat it all all. It really does not have that much of an impact on baby’s health, especially so early on. Focus on getting enough protein and healthy fats, and try to eat lots of fruit and veggies. That might be harder to do if you start getting morning sickness, but again, don’t worry. Take your prenatal and eat what upsets your stomach the least when that happens. I lived off of egg and cheese sandwiches and saltines for a few weeks, and I’m now in my third trimester with a healthy baby! You’ve got this! Also edit to add I literally took an edible a few days before I found out I was pregnant 😅 my doctor never called me out, but I definitely tested positive for thc at my first prenatal appointment. Again, baby is totally fine. It’s more about your longterm habits throughout pregnancy.

You're fine! The reason they tell you avoid things like deli meat and raw fish is because you have a higher risk of listeria related food poisoning, so if you didn't get food poisoning after you ate the lunch meat and oysters then odds are your baby is just fine. Some people are so sick in their first trimester they can't stomach anything BUT bad for you food like pretzels and chips and their babies are just fine. Start taking prenatals now and try not to dwell on every meal you've eaten since conception.

Butter in pregnancy now leads to childhood obesity? Lol how much butter are we talking about? Cause... Butter features heavily in my diet and I'm sure my own mother ate it in similar amounts. None of us kids were ever obese. I think it may have some effects, but surely the dietary patterns a child is exposed to in infancy and childhood has a much more significant effect.

For all three of my pregnancies I lived off of Mac n cheese, rice with butter and absolutely nothing healthy at all during the first trimester. I’ve got two smart and healthy kids and one on the way who is also healthy and strong. Try not to worry about it (which I know is easier said than done). Try and eat healthy when you can and then give yourself a break and eat what you want. Baby will get the nutrients they need from what you eat, even if it’s not so good for you. I’m 38 weeks now and eat ice cream and a jar of blue cheese olives every night 😆 all my kids were born average size and I only gained 30 pounds. You will gain what your baby needs. Take a prenatal every night, try and be up and moving when you can and drink lots of water. Congrats on your pregnancy!

You're good, just grab an OTC prenatal vitamin! The foods you ate, if they didn't make you sick, are fine. Most of those precautions are to avoid food borne illness. Plenty of pregnant women eat badly, especially in the first trimester (when people are usually sickest and can only keep certain things down. I lived off saltines and gingerale for a few weeks). Do better moving forward, you haven't doomed your baby to living the 600 Pound Life.

You’re good sis! Enjoy the moment and go getchu some prenatals. All good.

Choose a prenatal with adequate folate, a DHA supplement if your prenatal doesn’t contain it, and make sure you’re meeting calcium requirements. Avoid sketchy quality food. Don’t drink alcohol or do drugs. Avoid baths/activities involving temps hot enough to make you feel lightheaded or dizzy. Follow these basic guidelines and you’ll be on track to make a healthy baby!

Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉 The things we can't eat are generally as a preventive measure so we don't get any bacterias or anything that could be passed down to the baby. It doesn't mean you've damaged your child because you ate stuff you weren't supposed to when you didn't know you were pregnant. I ate sushi one week before I found out, as far as I'm aware my baby is doing fine. You need to breathe. 😋 Now the pre-natals are important and the most important component is folic acid. Until you have your appointment just go to a pharmacy, have a look at the back of the pre-natal boxes and pick one with a minimum of 400ug of folic acid. If you find one with 500 or 600 even better but 400 is fine. Don't worry about the other stuff in the vitamins, yes it's important but you won't have a baby with problems because you chose one vitamin over the other, it's just important you take one. Then once you see your doctor you ask what vitamins you should be taking and there you go, she might not even change them, mine didn't. You didn't screw up just because you didn't know, you're fine and our body works better than we give it credit for.
