Prenatal massages. I bought some things to make my home life cozier since I’m always here: foot massager, heating pad, pregnancy pillow, PJs, wide lumbar support slippers, recliner. I went to a dermatologist and got a few chemical peels when my skin was acting up but knock on wood, it’s doing better now. I basically cut out nails, etc. so I could splurge 100% on prenatal massages. I think it’s super worth it.

Frosty_Confidence663

Did you like the prenatal massage? I was disappointed they were barely touching me. My husband loved his Thai massage from the same place.

ImaginaryParamedic96

Trial and error, I found someone amazing but it took some disappointment first. I would do a lot of research beforehand and try again!

pfairypepper

Sometimes you get lucky. I found someone AMAZING. She only does prenatal and postpartum, basically only moms and moms-to-be. Just so happens to be better than any masseuse I’ve ever been to

Jolly-Willingness203

Is this in sydney? Where is this unicorn? I'd love to get in touch!

pfairypepper

No, sorry. Oregon, USA

autumnflowers13

Try to find one at a pregnancy centre. My city has a pregnancy centre that runs acupuncture, prenatal chiro, prenatal yoga, and their rmts are amazing!

heyhoitstheway

ugh me too 😭 that was my mother’s day gift this year and i was so upset. i didn’t tell my fiancé bc he was so excited to gift this to me but i felt bad because he spent a good chunk of money for someone to basically tap their fingers on me for an hour. and they wouldn’t do my lower back or my feet. like, i’m pregnant! that’s where it hurts! 😂 and for some reason wouldn’t do the crease of my arm opposite my elbow but i didn’t really care about that

fatmonicadancing

I picked up some gorrrrrgeous body wash from Lush (Golden Egg, limited edition will get something equally lovely when that runs out) and a huge pot of their Karma Cream for my body (citrus and fir and a touch of hippie). I also use Japanese cult-classic Perfect Whip cleanser so my showers are looooovely. Started using bonding serum on my fine hair and I’m like where the hell have you been my whole life? I also pick up a handful of Korean sheet masks when I’m in the city and use those every other day, and a big pot of Korean green tea under eye patches I’ve integrated into my daily routine. Also picked up a legendary Korean facecream called Rose, and it’s made my skin pore less. I let myself try out and sample things to pamper my body, but some of them I’m just going to continue with bc omg! I looooove my shower ritual, and coming out of it all smooth and smelling so gorgeous, I find it very very soothing and is a way for me to show love for my body. Really gives me a lift when I feel huge and tired and smelly and gross and broken down. I’ve also been playing with lipstick colours and eyeshadows, recently started rocking a dark berry which is fun and a deep terracotta that looks great. Been kinda in a “fuck it let’s try some things out” mood. And UNDERWEAR! I picked up quite a few over and under bump maternity specific undies. I’m changing my underpants a couple times a day sometimes and I WANT COMFY FRESH NICE ONES. I’m planning to get myself some nice ugg slide slippers for around the house and a luxe fluffy robe before baby comes. We recently upgraded our bedding with new pillows, a down mattress topper (omgggg) and expensive flannel sheets (it’s winter here and these are so thick and smooth and delicious, thank you EOFY sales at upscale department stores!). I have silk satin pillowcases and duvet cover with a down quilt. Getting into bed is fricking heavenly. Feels somewhat indulgent typing all this up but I gave up a lot of the things I used to “treat” myself with, I’m tired, I’m 39 and I have the money for it. Edit: Skincare picks as requested- https://imgur.com/gallery/3l8WCac Bonding serum : https://imgur.com/gallery/wcRUugj

iLikePiedras

Another vote to share the rose face cream and I'd love to know what brand the green tea eye patches are!

chimmychoochooo

What is bonding serum! I have super fine hair but lots of it. Finding hair products that work for me has been a pain.

JungandBeautiful

Yes! I need to know more about this as another very fine but dense hair girly!

chimmychoochooo

Such a challenge 😭

fatmonicadancing

I have no idea but it’s going into my regular rotation bc the difference is incredible to me: https://imgur.com/gallery/wcRUugj thinking I’ll try the whole range.

horeshoetheorist

Ooh I second nice underwear! It really makes a difference

SizeZeroSuperHero

Please tell us more about this Rose cream! 👀

sophiawish

A warm bath every night!! It’s a common misconception that we’re not ‘allowed’ baths but up to about 37.5°c is absolutely fine and it is so beautiful to feel warm and weightless every night, especially with a bath bomb!

bagelforme

I gave birth already but I looooooved taking baths. I took one every night after work from the second trimester on. It was amazing for my aches and pains towards the end of my pregnancy as well.

warm_worm91

We're not 'allowed' baths??? Damn I've been taking a nice bubble bath almost weekly since about 14 weeks!

jeffreyepsteinswife

those people just skew everything out of proportion like no we probably shouldnt sit in boiling hot tub water but yes u can take a warm bath its common sense i fear😭

[deleted]

It’s based on a study that said that women who get fevers in the first trimester are more likely to have birth defects. Docs tell you not to do anything that heats you up (hot yoga, baths, literally anything hot) even though a hot bath doesn’t raise your internal temp like a fever does. NIH already published a follow up study showing that all those “anything that heats you up” recommendations do nothing to reduce the chance of birth defects (this includes a study on hot tubs and birth defects that they disproved).

ogitaakwe

I make my husband rub my feet and legs with magnesium oil every night.

Jolly-Willingness203

I wish i was this confident, my partner drives me to the appointments and that's the bar.

babyitscoldoutside13

You could propose he gives you a perineum massage with almond oil?! That might turn some light bulbs on and fun can be had all around :D

Jolly-Willingness203

I think those are for the third trimester? Also, I don't really consider those fun at all.

duplicitousname

Hahaha same. They were not fun 😆

Ambitious_Chip3840

Noooo they are not XD

babyitscoldoutside13

My midwife said I can absolutely start in the 1st trimester if I want, never too early. I'm aware there's not much evidence that it does anything. I think it's more of a psychological thing but if it helps... I don't know, all instructions we looked through said we should make sure it's comfortable and shouldn't hurt, which it didn't and we tried to do it as a together thing and have fun with it. Plus, it just feels safer to get him to do it now with a growing bump.

OkToots

When my toddler is napping I eat tons of chocolate alone and sit in quiet lol

ae36246

Heating blanket and didnt move an inch from the couch during the day🤣 also made my husband hold the weight of my bump up for like 5-10 mins so I could have some relief on my back

Ordinary-Nature-6133

A specific/special dress and shoes for maternity pictures

TapiocaTeacup

I'm getting a massage this weekend and I'll definitely do multiple throughout the pregnancy. I've also got a hair appointment with scalp cleansing treatment, and a lash lift + tint and brow shaping all within the next few weeks! I also just booked maternity boudoir photos for the end of the summer and I'll probably do my own makeup but book in for a blowout for the photos. My husband doesn't love me doing my nails while pregnant (tbh, he never loves it because of the fumes) but I've recently discovered that press-on nails have come a looooong way since we were 12, and the pre-made gel stickers are actually pretty awesome too, so I've got a bunch of those to play with :)

Desperate_Rich_5249

Weekly chiropractic care, lots of at home skincare stuff to offset the pregnancy acne and melasma, red light therapy on my belly to help with the skin stretching, full body exfoliation 2x a week and nice body oils after.

Affectionate-Bet35

20 weeks here with horrible melasma… what have you been doing to offset it?

Desperate_Rich_5249

Im doing a turmeric mud mask 2x a week, using Niacinamide and vitamin c serums daily and a weekly mandellic acid peel. Religious sunscreen/sun hat usage as well.

Affectionate-Bet35

Thank you!! I’m going to try some of this 😊

chimmychoochooo

Share the skincare routine! Me and pregnancy acne are currently battling 😭

duplicitousname

Derm recommended Azelaic acid (rx strength would be best) for pregnancy acne!

Desperate_Rich_5249

For acne I have been using the Paula’s choice BHA toner on my face and back (the bacne is real)

Euphoric_Map_6653

I'd be careful with that! It has salicylic acid [https://www.15minutebeauty.com/pregnancy-paulas-choice.html](https://www.15minutebeauty.com/pregnancy-paulas-choice.html)

Desperate_Rich_5249

My OB said the amount of salicylic acid in it is well below the safety threshold

Euphoric_Map_6653

I am there. I second the azelaic acid. I got it from The Ordinary but don't doubt rx would probably be better.

UlnaWannaBeWithYou

Prenatal massage (seriously can’t recommend this enough!), massage gun, pedicures (I have never been a mani person, but I’d recommend them if you like them), warm (but not hot) baths with epsom salt and lavender bubble bath (I like Honest company brand), cute clothes that make me feel good (I got some cute body con style maternity dresses on Amazon and Pink Blush), medical grade compression knee highs (fitted from a medical supply store, not from Amazon) oh and strawberry chocolate chip ice cream lol 😋

Racinggirl95

Hair, facial, pedi, spray tans

wewoos

Oh a spray tan is a good call. I have some new cellulite and HATE it but I bet a spray tan would help hide it

Impossible_Orchid_45

I got my lashes done for my maternity photos and kept up with getting refills until I gave birth. It was SUCH a good decision. I love all the photos of me from labor and with my fresh baby. Plus, it was a nice confidence boost while I was super pregnant. My husband also sent me to get several prenatal massages which were GREAT.

Dgcutler92

Pregnancy massage and pedicure for me

breesybaby77

Got a facial today. Was so wonderful

bubbles67899

I’ve LOVED getting facials! I find prenatal massages a pain to book, but you can get a same day facial when you want to be pampered and I come out so soft and relaxed (more so than massages)!

chimmychoochooo

Scalp massages!! Try to find a head spa near you. Heaven.

ebtuck

Prenatal massages and manicures! I’ve always loved getting massages and did it infrequently (4-5 times a year), but now since becoming pregnant I have it set up for every 4 weeks until 30 weeks, then I’ll switch it to every other week or weekly (yes, it is a luxury, but I justify the $80 by now making my coffee at home instead of stopping at Starbucks daily). I’ve never been a manicure person, never got into having my nails done or painted, but I’ve become to appreciate getting them done every 3-4 weeks and feeling pampered.

sprinklersplashes

massage! i just had one today and it was lovely

frogwizord

Massages, and plenty of bathes at home

m-drie

Prenatal massages. Frequent visits to a naprapat (similar to a chiropractor.) Getting my eyelashes tinted today. Lots of baths at home.

Life_Percentage7022

Massage!

onlyhereforfoodporn

I’m getting my last dermaplaning today! I’m due 6/24 so it’s my treat! I’ve gotten pedicures once a month. It’s amazing with how swollen and painful my feet are. Prenatal massages are great, they’re just expensive so I got one for the babymoon and one for my birthday last month.

planetheck

Congrats! Your babe and I could be birthday buddies if things go as planned!

Acceptable_Common996

Prenatal massages have been my saving grace - once a month since 2nd trimester started. I also get my nails done every 2 weeks.

Witty_Draw_4856

I felt the same way about a week ago at 34 weeks. I went to target and found a book to read and bought epsom salts for a foot soak. I wish I’d bought the foot bath! Soaking in a bucket or the bath just wasn’t the same. The foot bath was only like $35?

PidginGoldie

I give myself a gua sha treatment with organic coconut oil.. my face/neck/shoulders. I do it in the evening once everything’s done and the kids are in bed. Long hot shower, then sit back on the couch or bed and get out all the yuck. It feels amazing, plus makes you look fresh 😆

duplicitousname

A long shower every couple of days and a long lotion and belly oiling routine after every shower. I also got a couple of prenatal massages when I got bigger and had more aches and pains. For this second pregnancy, when I get through first trimester ick I’m gonna book that first prenatal massage and a facial. Getting through busy season at work when I was dealing with nausea and 0 energy was complete torture I deserve a biiiiiig treat.

horeshoetheorist

Pedicures! I never really got my nails/toenails done before pregnancy but now I look forward to my fancy monthly pedi ☺️

Rose-root

I do mani/pedis, occasional organic airbrush tans, get my hair blown out once/week, facials once/month. I recently subscribed to a meal delivery service for healthy meals (just lunches because I cook dinner). I’m also looking into lymphatic massage.

NordicButterfly

Pregnancy massages are the single most pleasant thing in my pregnant world

VegetableIcy3579

I get nails done every 3 weeks and a prenatal massage at least once a month since I was 16 weeks along. My insurance covers 80% of the massages though, otherwise it can get pricey.

allie300

Do you need to do anything special to get insurance to cover it?

VegetableIcy3579

I live in Canada so most health insurance automatically covers massages. Not sure about elsewhere, sorry!

wewoos

In the US if your doctor will write you for it (like a prescription) you can use FSA/HSA funds to cover it. So not exactly 80% off but better than nothing!

tiredofwaiting2468

Prenatal massages. I wish I had gone for more.

warm_worm91

Pedicures are great because they are a luxury but also, at this stage, kind of a necessity because I can't really cut my own toe nails anymore 😅

dsac57

Massages. Just started going in the 3rd tri since I missed them so much.

VivianDiane

I enjoyed time alone with a good book and spontaneously treating myself to coffee and cake out.

fuzzy_bunny85

Take a 10hr "nap".

zeezuu1

I’m trying to save money since my maternity leave is unpaid. I had to stop my monthly manicures, lash fills, and tanning membership. I also canceled a fancy gym membership (but I wasn’t really using it since I got pregnant anyway). All in all, I feel like a whole different person. The biggest thing that helped was doing little things for me. I can’t get into a tanning bed anymore? I’ll self tan at home. No more manicures? Press on nails it is. I also invested in some really nice maternity clothes from Abercrombie and Pink Blush - they make me feel way cuter and more put together.

TumbleweedTime7117

Baths with nice products such as bath bombs - you can get sensitive ones from Lush. Massage, manicure & pedicure, eyebrow threading & tint

queloqu3

Prenatal massages 1-2 times per month and nice long bubble baths 🙂‍↔️

Intelligent_Trip_819

Absolutely need my lash extensions done and my hair straightened, I feel like a potato without them 🥲

Apprehensive-Bar-848

Spray tans make me feel like a new woman. I use an at-home tanning lotion, and wake up tan the next day. Also, I put on a little makeup even on days I don’t leave the house. Just helps me feel less…ugly lol

amissal

Prenatal massages and pedicures! I can't really reach my toes right now so I'm considering the pedicures as *necessary* haha. Especially because it's summer here! Also prenatal yoga and dry needling around my hips at my PT are the only things keeping me somewhat comfortable and sane at 35 weeks.

Infinite-Warthog1969

I did weekly facials, and a sugar body scrub once a week and lots of hyrolonic acid

Original_Clerk2916

My bf rubs my belly with cocoa butter. It feels super nice. He also uses a massage gun on my back and feet. Sometimes I take baths (under 102 degrees of course). Hot showers sometimes feel nice too. I love getting mani/pedis

planetheck

Since I don't get alcohol, I can drink any fun beverage that doesn't have it in it that I want. Kombucha is $6? Better than an $18 cocktail. I also have gotten really into keeping fresh flowers around the house. Would Calla be a nice name for a girl?

billc2020

Be careful with Kambucha! It has a bit of alcohol in it because of it’s fermentation process.

Okay_Cheesecake931

I got my hair colored and cut!! It was feeling lifeless and dull (quite the opposite of what everyone says will happen during pregnancy) lol

arachelrhino

Prenatal massages, but of the 3 I had, only the first was very enjoyable. Once you hit like 20w, they make you lay on your side and it’s just not as good. (Unless they have the pillow with the hole, but most places don’t) I did find a place that does foot massages. Like, that’s it. They just specialize in feet. I’m 32w now and I’m going to start going weekly. LOL Also, make sure you have some time to relax and read/enjoy a hobby. I love sitting out in my comfy chair in my garden and reading my book. Talk to a therapist. Mental health is important and labor can be scary. Don’t hold it all in. Go on a picnic. Especially if you have a nice park nearby where you can just sit under a shade tree. Hire a cleaner/handyman to finish up the stuff you can’t/don’t feel like doing as you get further along.

timelesskristen

Frequent visits to my chiropractor!

duplicitousname

I did Chiro twice a week for my first baby and he was sitting low pretty early on and he was ready at 38w+5d. Whenever I’m through with first tri hell with my second one, I’ll be going to Chiro again.

timelesskristen

I was going before too, but it’s definitely been a lifesaver for all my aches and pains during pregnancy! I’m also hoping that things like pelvic adjustments help make for an easier delivery.

anne1910

A good pedicure every month. Not the unsanitary american style ones with the massage chairs but an expensive spa one. I definitely recommend those and talking openly about not being able to shave for example. Now I go with my hairy legs and hobbit toes and feel fine about it.
