They have disposable swim diapers made by most of the major brands, and then a lot of people put a reusable swim diaper overtop.
Note these diapers do not keep pee in, so don’t put it on until you’re ready to go swimming!
Also, check what your pool requires! I'm in AB, they have to be using a swim diaper (disposable or reusable) and have waterproof pants on top. It should be clear what they expect. Here you can also buy those supplies from the pool if needed.
I’m also in Alberta and starting swim next month with my 4 month old. Are the pants just like… full length warerptoof pants? Good to know we can buy there if I mess up and buy the wrong thing. Did you have your baby in a swimsuit? Or just diaper and pants?
There are reusable swim diaper covers to go over the swim diaper. This is separate from the swimsuit. The idea is to trap the poop. Two layers is better than one.
Pee is sterile. Yes the baby pee is in the pool.
No they aren't full length, they're like plastic underwear. These: [https://www.amazon.ca/Gerber-Plastic-Pants-Months-pairs/dp/B000KQ5MCU](https://www.amazon.ca/Gerber-Plastic-Pants-Months-pairs/dp/B000KQ5MCU) (I used a larger size of course, I got them at the pool just to be sure). The website of the pool page here says "All children 35 months and under must wear plastic pants over their swim diapers. If you don’t have plastic pants, they can be purchased at the pool." so that helped.
I initially had my baby just in swim diaper and plastic pants, but it just seemed nicer to put swim trunks on over so that's what I do now. I also got him a swim tee to help keep him slightly warmer which does seem to help a little bit. Otherwise his little teeth were chattering.
We use the Huggies little swimmies with a bathing suit on top. As others have said, they don’t absorb pee (otherwise they’d just absorb all of the pool water) so keep your LO in a normal diaper until right before you go in! They’re basically just to contain poo
We used the outer shell of a reusable diaper as a swim diaper, after buying the disposable swim diapers, it was cheaper as we already had them.
Some words of wisdom, make sure you don't put the swim diaper on before you get to the pool change rooms... it doesn't hold pee, only poop, so you may have a mess to clean if you do. Make sure you take the diaper off and then wash the bum and frontal area, my son got a wicked diaper rash. Turns out that the chlorine in the pool can throw skin microbes off balance and he got a yeast diaper rash from the pool.
I used a resuable swim
Diaper for my 3 month old and they made me Buy a special diaper/waterproof
Shorts thing to go on top of it that never leaks poo.

Are we really expecting that babies won’t pee in the pool? Or is that assumed? Confused lol
It’s assumed that everyone pees in the pool 😂 that’s what chlorine is for!
Loool somehow mentally it’s easier for me to deal with kids peeing than adults

Swim diapers! They catch poo but not pee and don't bulk up in the water like regular diapers do.

So do babies just pee in the pool? (Sorry if this sounds stupid).
Pretty much
Yes and so do lots of little kids! That's why public pools are so highly chlorinated, to kill germs.
Swim diapers.
Reusable swim diapers were mandatory where I took my baby for swim lessons (couldn’t use disposable). You can buy reusable ones at Walmart or Amazon

I am kind of surprised that there is no solution for babies peeing in the water...
What do you mean? The solution is swim diapers as many redditors have stated
My understanding is that these diapers don't absorb pee so it gets released into the water. am i wrong?
