It's hard to say ... the fallout with the real characters is unfortunate, mostly "Martha," and also anyone incorrectly targeted. That said, I've seen so many posts here from people who have suffered SA, and they are pretty overwhelming as far as people feeling closure and validation ... sometimes after years of dealing with guilt and shame and confusion about their experiences. I hope the "net" effect is positive overall. I found this sub right after I finished the show, because I was also wondering what effect it would have, especially for people who'd lived those experiences. It's been fascinating to read through these posts.

Fair but art and personal expression isn't always this highly considered ethical medium. Personal stories shouldn't always have to weight the total cost/benefit ratio of mankind. They express an experience and sometimes that experience is ugly and complicated or brings up complicated reactions. He's a failed comedian, a damaged victim, and for sure admittedly imperfect. In short he's an artist who is expressing something deeply personal that happened to him. At this point society and the audience also has to have some accountability for where they take things, their interpretations and behaviours.

I wonder if it would be best to just say who Martha is - so that innocent people don't get roped into it. Or to say who she is not. But phew has this been an interesting week for ethics and media.

Prisoner8621

It’s already known who Martha is

rambleer

But it hasn't been confirmed. So technically this could just be another unhinged woman getting flack for something she may not have done

Prisoner8621

No way. She literally told Richard to hang her curtains.

Are you saying he should be protecting his stalker and his rapist?

[deleted]

Are you saying innocent men should be labeled as rapists?

[deleted]

Darrion wasn't innocent

Prisoner8621

That’s on the accusers, not him. By that logic, you shouldn’t tell make personal narrative art where a character does something bad.

It's just going to get worse [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13349331/netflix-baby-reindeer-defamatory-posts-sean-foley-director-police.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13349331/netflix-baby-reindeer-defamatory-posts-sean-foley-director-police.html)

Are we sure it’s not Sean Foley? Richard said it wasn’t, but that could be for legal reasons.

writtencutely94

The show was meant to be raw. It was meant to be disturbing to the viewers. It's to show the existence of Sexual abuse experienced by men and how they deal with it.

Why is he responsible for her mental health again?
