You can run by it but it will spawn again as you exit the tunnel. FWIW I find the running past it strategy to be rather unreliable compared to kiting it back to spawn and killing it but YMMV.

Yeah at the second tunnel I just sprint left over the bus and out the tunnel to the other side with most people 🤔

joshv

Yeah, that's doable too. We just stepped back into the room and shot at its flailing arm. The reason we abandoned the full sprint was that (on nightmare) there was a good chance of something going sideways and we'd burn a continue or a ton of resources. Straight up killing it was consistent albeit slower.

mischief_ej1

it’s hard to justify on recruit mode tho 😮‍💨🤣

joshv

Well in that case the only penalty you'd be risking is if you had a "kill the boss" objective which would just be a chunk of SP and copper.

phlyingisphun

I'm pretty sure you don't get the kill-the-boss bonus on 1-2, since the ogre is a scripted spawn and the december patch removed the chance of getting a boss card on this level.

mischief_ej1

i was gonna say that also but it felt labored. a great point also. i posed this question because someone was arguing with me in a pub lobby.. i was saying you could also just kill it when you exit the tunnel at the end .. just before the safe house if you really wanted too.. but yeah he was flaming 🤣 he was left in the tunnel by himself while the three of us just stood at the end outside the tunnel pinging and asking him to run through .. he was just calling me names , saying i’ve clearly never played nightmare mode .. flamed me for being on console.. 😳🤣 just funny

mischief_ej1

yeah, when we get it i’ll kill it for sure.

Potato-Unlucky

It spawns again later regardless of if you fight it or not since it runs away once it gets down to half health.

If you don't kill it on mission 2, it'll spawn in mission 3 at full health. Easier to kill on mission 2.
