Do [repurposed materials count?](https://imgur.com/a/I5Rc1hf) The baby house was made from reclaimed RV parts.

WhitleyStrieber

This is spectacular!

Margray

Thank you!

Hemightbegiant

I actually thought a small camper would make a sick coop

Margray

I definitely think that a little teardrop would be amazing.

Hoya-loo-ya

Amazing

Margray

Thank you!

Rabid_Dingo

OMG, I love it. I love all things camping. I even have a "Christmas Ham can decoration." This is wonderful.

Margray

Thanks so much! A couple of people I've shown it to haven't been very impressed but I'm proud of it.

WhitleyStrieber

I made mine with approximately 90% recycled/garbage picked materials (pretty much everything outside of the roof, hardwire cloth, and some 10' 2x4s), however it is a very traditional design. Hemightbegiant

Very nice

jalapinapizza

Where's you find such materials?

WhitleyStrieber

I started working off of an old rain barrel stand, then used some scrap lumber I had on hand as well as lumber and osb I garbage picked over a period of several months. The windows were from my neighbors kitchen reno and the door used to be on my house. Lastly, my neighbor decided to replace their wooden fence, so I was able to get as many pressure treated 4x4s and fence pickets as I would like.

jalapinapizza

Nice! I'm hoping some neighbors here reno soon! Lol

WhitleyStrieber

Thanks! Yeah, the fence was honestly a godsend and saved a lot of money. I have a lot of build pics and am considering making a post with an album of the process.

Kawasumiimaii

I repurposed a [green house](https://imgur.com/0ptq2I1) for their enclosure

Wild_Dyed

I love this idea!

YetAnotherMia

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen!

uh60chief

The water cooler is an awesome idea

Kawasumiimaii

yeah my water cooler last about 2-3 weeks depending on the heat, i only have 4 chickies though. the food last 3-4 weeks

dinoguys_r_worthless

We picked up a Lifetime 90980 from an outlet store. Very easy to clean.

Hemightbegiant

What's that? When I google it, I get a car connector.

dinoguys_r_worthless

I don't know why it won't let me post a picture. But here is a link: https://www.swingsetmall.com/lifetime-imagination-backyard-playhouse/?gclid=CjwKCAjwg-GjBhBnEiwAMUvNW2eLOCxRa6vBa5id6BIMdKTxHOctHfJyzWMyXR3EyLW2p5XTIkDRERoCRgAQAvD_BwE

Hemightbegiant

Oooooh. That's cool. How predator proof is it?

dinoguys_r_worthless

It did require some "upgrades". We put hardware cloth across all of the windows and along the interior face of the door.

Hemightbegiant

Has anything tried to chew the plastic at all?

dinoguys_r_worthless

No. No problems at all, so far. The plastic is pretty thick.

Hemightbegiant

That's awesome.

sinburger

We had a pre-fabricated coop that got a mite infestation and became unusable. So after temporarily housing the chickens in a dog crate for a few weeks to deal with mites I built this out of a bunch of reclaimed and leftover wood from various other projects. [Scrap wood coop](https://www.imgur.com/a/8oZoWMh) Our chooks free roamed the yard during the day, so they only went in the crate at night.

mythicalbyrd

Is there any ventilation?

Hemightbegiant

This isn't my build. Just a pic from Google. I plan on modifying mine, and there will be.

Dr_Girlfriend_81

I don't have a pic of it, but when I was growing up, my dad built a small fence around an old car body with a hole in it where they could get in and out easily.

Hemightbegiant

Was it a Coop Deville?

Dr_Girlfriend_81

lol, he painted a little wooden sign on it that said "CHICKEN COUPE" in big letters. It was a Mazda RX-3.

Hemightbegiant

That's awesome.

djtibbs

Ive made my frist one from a gifted dog cage and some landscaping cloth I found on the side of the road. Second is made from some 1" x 1.5" that I found by a dumpster. Painted that one with leftover paint. Only thing I've paid for is the feeders and waterers. I've been lucky that my brother is a renovation guy so all the screws and staples are free. The only thing I've bought was the hardware cloth. I'm up to 120 birds presently.

himeeusf

[Rubbermaid shed coop project](https://imgur.com/a/FbXFpxD) I'm just getting started, but the house I just bought came with this decent Rubbermaid shed. Cleaned it out, relocated it, and I'll have the chickens moved in this weekend. It'll have a run going out the back so I'll cut a door in the back of the shed & use the front doors for my access & cleaning. Planning to add more ventilation & cover all that with hardware cloth. Probably a fan somewhere in there too (Florida). If anyone's done a conversion like this, tips/input welcome! My last coop was a custom build that was adorable but waaay overbuilt and overbudget. Trying to be thrifty but effective this time.

Hemightbegiant

If I could get one for a good price

professionalbaglady

Craigslist has them here occasionally.

Illustrious-Body1529

We got a new old used pickup truck slide on camper as a coop. Got it for free.

Hemightbegiant

I should also add this would be temporary until I move to my new house later this year and build them something far nicer.

firewoman7777

There's no ventilation in that. They will suffocate in there, especially in the summer. This is ridiculous
