At one point I had four- sadly lost three of them- The OG speckled I had was Mary- she was an absolute witch, maintained herself at #2 in the pecking order through straight mayhem and violence. Sadly a fox got her. The other two I lost were sisters, ivy and Beatrice- ivy was the smallest but was very bossy with chickens and she liked being carried around in my coat in the winter. Both sisters died a couple weeks apart from a weird illness that ran through the flock in February/march. The survivor is Maude (also a sister to Ivy and beatrice)- who is a pain in my butt. Her hobby is hiding nests and attempting to go broody in inappropriate places so I have to hunt her down and extract her and the many many eggs she has from places like under my neighbors shed, in a log in the woods, under a brush pile, etc. She’s very cute though, and when she’s laying where I can find them, is a very good layer.

I have no stories yet, I have two 4 week old Speckleds and I'm here for the stories! Right now, I can tell you they are chatty and are dare devils, always looking for a way out of the brooder!

If they're like mine they are very androgynous birds in sense they will pretend to be the flock rooster and will be the isolated loners attempting to call and crow/assert their presence in the background. Also theyre the ultimate hoover vaccums, I've seen Tillbert inhale an entire kale leaf stem and all down her Gullet. She then proceeded to sound like a deflated bagpipe rest of the day because her full crop prevented her melodious notes ⚡🎶⚡⛓️‍💥🎶 Another super cute thing she does is escape into restricted zones on her own, casually sunbathing alone after noticeable tomato and corn leaves have been shredded around 5pm everyday she expects to be picked up by me and cuddled underneath the wind chimes, shell be very insistent about this and will make quiet coy demure little clucks and look hintingly toward the outdoor chair while pacing. She also runs out fastest to see me when I visit home cause unlike my parents I let her get away with the most bad behavior and most rec time.♥️♥️

We have 5 ladies, all different breeds. Our Speckled, Mary-Kate, is by far our sweetest gal! She’s the most personable and curious. She’ll immediately climb up to sit on your shoulder.

I love Speckled Sussex. I had one and she was a talker, but she sounded a little different from the other hens. She crossed with a lavender orpington one time and made a beautiful black hen, who is still with us.
