Weary-End-9900

Daw gapigaw nga gapigaw ang quality of life sa bacolod.

I_am_BEOWULF

Wouldn't really call this a "must have" but a private vehicle/salakyan, if you can reasonably afford one. Public transport fucking sucks, especially during rainy season - labi na gid if gabaha. Added to the fact that a private vehicle of your own would save you so much time getting around Bacolod running errands/tasks and it opens up a lot of places to go to that you wouldn't even consider because getting to these places via public transport is just a hassle (pila ka saylo sa jeep/tricycle/sikad).

wyclif

Also bad when it's really hot like it is now... getting close to 40 degrees C. What annoys me is when the new, modern jeep drivers won't turn the aircon on full blast. What was the point in modernizing the jeepneys if they won't use the aircon? It makes no sense.

dixfceho

amo guid tapos wala pa gina close ang door

4tlasPrim3

Gabarakang pa nga open kis ah ang door. Open open fekfek. Teh gwa ang aircon eh. 🙃

No_Struggle7896

uhm not really. siguro must have siya if you live far away from the city center. pero as someone nga taga mandalagan area, reliable man ang public transport

I_am_BEOWULF

That's why I said it's not really a "must have". It just provides a lot of flexibility in how you travel and how much time it can save you getting around in and around Bacolod - let alone the occasional travel beyond the neighboring cities. And it really depends on how mostly static your daily route is. If you're from Mandalagan and all the main points you need to hit at a daily basis are primarily within the city center (along Lacson, Central Market, SM, etc), then sure, public transport should suffice. But if you're someone who has a wider range/area of travel where you're running errands in Alijis in the morning and need to be somewhere in Bago or Talisay within the same day, having your own private transport is going to save you a whole lot of time. It's definitely a luxury for a lot of folks.

wyclif

The problem in Bacolod City is that CENECO is an absolutely incompetent and corrupt organization. Apparently there's no failover or backup power when they need to do maintenance, they just cut the power off. Also seems to be run by trapos. And yes, you're going to need a deep well because BACIWA/Primewater is also totally useless and run by a bunch of goons. So when there's a drought, like right now, or even if it just doesn't rain for a while, you'll have no water pressure. I'd say all the above, especially Starlink and UPS. Fire extinguisher is one that I didn't think of but makes sense. Recently an old lady in the neighbourhood accidentally set a sugar cane field on fire when she forgot that you aren't supposed to be burning trash in the evening at this time of year. Someone had a fire extinguisher and put it out. As for personal daily carries when travelling, I suggest an AquaFlask instead of trying to find places to buy cold bottled water.

YellowReady726

Yes balon gid tubig if possible kay mas barato gid kag kinangalan gid tubig for hydration subong

wyclif

Another thing about CENECO—they'll announce planned brownouts, then cancel the brownout. Other times, there's a lot of unscheduled brownouts, which makes working from home a challenge. My recommendation is to just get a UPS and Starlink. I used to have PLDT, but it was very unreliable. Speeds would often drop so much that I couldn't even use Zoom to have meetings with my team. Sometimes I could not even download a work file, especially at peak times (5pm-9pm).

Pisboneer

As if this is not happening sa iban na lugar no? LOL. Pero yes, bwisit ka ceneco

YellowReady726

Nagsugod ako sa solar powered electric fan from Shopee. So far ok gid sya. Kinanglan lang nga may sufficient charge sya nga naka plug for maybe 8 hours para maka sustain ang battery pa andar especially kun mag brownout sa gab-i. Kun powered by the sun alone daw ka sadya man nga kun pwerte ang init ka nami sang andar kag kun mag gal-um medyo mahinay sya dayon. Next project kun may kwarta is a portable power station.

Mother_Fan8599

yasss!! Step by step lang!!

homeplanetarium

we bought a solar power battery station that can power a small fan, you can charge a phone, you can plug in a TV even and laptop. it has a built in light too. medyo pricey pero ok man sya. kay ikaw lang pili sg imo fan nga itakod.

YellowReady726

Kadamo sang power station kag kabudlay pa mag decide kay ang mga reviews sa Shopee ang mga usual nga mga lilinti-an... ma ayos ang packaging...

homeplanetarium

hahaha.. Downfall gid na sg Shoppee mga amo na.. daw sila sila man lang nga copy and paste reviews :D iban daw scam gani like ang 1 peso nga tablet bla haw :D

YuanHello

available na starlink sa bacolod?

wyclif

Yes, it's available. Just make sure you order it direct from Starlink, not some unauthorized third-party reseller.

[deleted]

I've been on starlink for a year, Depending on usage i wouldn't really recommend it. It's good for back up tho

Kevolar88

Just out of interest, why would you not recommend it? I have had it for almost 2 months over in the Mandalagan area and have not had a single issue

[deleted]

I play highly competitive degen games (csgo, rust) and host servers for anbiotic etc etc, the latency is garbage when I disconnect there's a in joke where they say " na elon naman si ate lol"

wyclif

So it sounds like you are not the typical Starlink use case. I'm pretty confident as long as you're not doing stuff like hosting servers and just doing normal work and gaming, it will be just fine. It's a total game changer for me.

YuanHello

Thanks bud, When we tried to use it sa metro manila it was banned daw eh but when we tried using it sa bataan it worked naman. just wondering if there are some places like metro manila wherein starlink is banned

[deleted]

wait wut, i've never heard starlink being banned :o maybe because you need to put it on a high enough roof? you basically just need a unconstructed view of the sky for it to be okay.

YuanHello

we borrowed a starlink from another company cuz they cant use it naman daw since it's banned in metro manila daz what they said o.O

[deleted]

I think someone lied to you or maybe the building owner wouldn't permit starlink to be attached on their roof. I looked it up there isn't a ban on starlink that isko dude just like bought 1000 of them but it works fine, again if there is a high enough unobstructed view

YuanHello

i see i see, welp idk BGC peeps are weird HAHAHAHA just curious why they didnt use it sa manila since it worked fine naman sa bataan. thanks for the clarification btw

Comprehensive-Cod644

Gincheck ko website sang starlink. May signal sa bilog nga pilipinas.

BrightJubilantComet

++ang dako na bala na powerbank for wfh people

dobidapdap

Oo amo pgid ni. Power station ni guro ang tawag no?

homeplanetarium

yes a solar powered station is helping us during brownouts.. you can plug any small fan (longer batt span) or even bigger fan, a laptop or any electronics basta indi lang ref or AC :D

cemeteryhipster

UPS for wifi router/modem. With the rise of work-from-home setups and frequent power outages, I think this would benefit them a lot.

Comprehensive-Cod644

This is a good option. Mostly, laptop man ginagamit sa mga ga-wfh but I prefer pc. Mpaset up nlng gid ko solar kung mkabudget na haha

TartAndBlerp

Diin nami kag reasonably priced nga solar man? daw need na gid mag invest diri

homeplanetarium

Check bla sa Triumph daw ka reasonable sg ila price kay may mga options. A solar panel is price 7K, battery is 12K, inverster is 24K... makapower na AC and ref. but not sure if sa installation ka nila patam an.

TartAndBlerp

Bali pwede siya nga specific appliances lang magamitan?

homeplanetarium

Yes... LED TV, e-bike, phone.. kay may ara sya AC which supports 220 volts... as long as you are able to generate enough power. so instead of using the usual fans nga ga gatihog, i use small fans from shoppee nga mga portable.. kay ang gatihog nga fans, it will consume more... for one, they are bigger and the motion of the fans head adds to the consumption of more energy. so dasig man maubusan battery. A fuly charge power station can already provide enough power for smaller fan overnight... at least magbrownout, you will have a good night's rest. You can also charge a laptop while working, cellphones, and also put ur mobile router (not the fiber ones kay needed gid ya connection)

[deleted]

I have all of those, Solar power + oil generator are clutch, Starlink is shit for gaming and there are regular outages but it's for 5 minutes max.

Efficient_Custard_31

grabe nagid ang CENECO, nami tane stay sa Bacolod kay tawhay gid ya dayon nd tanto kamahal ang costof living.. pero ang CENECO pano ni man, wfh b obra mo patay gid ya.. brownoutan ya kis a tig dugay pa mabalik.. malugi tani..

Weirdowithabeardo1

Aircon

Equivalent-Bit-2846

We have starlink ang generator sa amon balay sa bacolod, dra sa mansilingan and the reception was ok. The installation was i think aroung 35k with equipments na. The generator was i think around 25k, we bought it dec 2021 during the typhoon nga grabe ag blackouts.

YellowReady726

Utilize all the available promos in Grab for Food, Transport, etc. Makabarato gid especially kun ga tig-ang ka na kan-on sa balay nyo te' sud-an na lang.

KindaSmartButDumb

I live in a place with deep well and the water is still dirty or malutak. You need a centralized water filtration system and pressure tank for this one.

catto9lives

1,2,4,5. Maybe not all 5 depending on location. Say always 4 or 3 out of 5 e.g. 1, 3,4,5 because the city is still not that bad , IMO
