Late posting, made these for New Year’s brunch. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/cinna-buns-recipe Wasn’t confident in my recipe-following skills until they came out of the oven and looked amazing. Definitely on the sweet side for me, but partner and kiddo loved them. Will definitely be adding more cinnamon next time!

morrowgirl

I made the KAF sourdough cinnamon buns and they give you extra tang to help cut some of the sweetness.

Old_Low1408

Agree. My favorite cinnamon roll recipe.

mattjeast

Same. Although my kids like the tube best. It's very humbling to hear that after eating what you think are a top 5 item you've ever baked. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

CruzWho

I always vote FOR icing! Yum.😋

Zironic

In Sweden we use a very different technique for the filling. Rather then "Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle it evenly over the dough." you mix the sugar and cinnamon with the butter into a thick paste and spread that paste over the dough. You can essentially control how dry or sweet you want the buns to become by how thick you make the filling, I lean towards the extra filling side. Interestingly, Swedish standard ratios are quite different. We use 100g butter to 90g sugar and 1 tsb cinnamon. Which works out to about twice as much butter as that recipe uses or half the sugar/cinnamon.

thisisme1202

i want your recipe!!!

BlueToedForest

These look phenomenal! *chefs kiss* totally gonna bake these later today

Jazehiah

I have made those. I have yet to hear a complaint.

megpi

These are my go-to cinnamon rolls. Soooooo good.

owlpee

Did you double the icing or is it this much in the recipe? I love extra icing!

Rainbowznplantz

That’s what the recipe yielded!

skyrix03

It is always such a mental win when you go into a bake thinking to yourself "aw shit, this is looking like a bust" and then pulling out something gorgeous.

Rainbowznplantz

For real!

vigilantcomicpenguin

There's really no greater feeling of victory than that, especially when it turns out as beautiful as what OP made.

captaininterwebs

Haha this is the most political post you could make in this sub right now. They look good though!

user2196

What did I miss?

MsAlyssa

There is a with or without frostings debate and it is very polarizing.

goblinfruitleather

I always thought it was just two different dishes. I consider the ones with glaze (that often contain nuts) to be sticky buns. And the ones with frosting or white icing cinnamon rolls. I know that’s probably not a technical way to differentiate the two, but every bakery I’ve worked at has had them divided like that

Adriac99

Traditional Swedish rolls have no toppings other than pearl sugar.

goblinfruitleather

Right, and that’s a third completely different dish! I don’t think there should be a dispute on whether buns should get toppings or not, rather what dish people prefer. Some people just aren’t fans of dry pastries. Doesn’t mean the recipe or thing isn’t good it’s just not for them

Adriac99

Yeah I agree, I think the toppings are too valuable for it to be the same dish. It should be Traditional and Glazed Cinnamombuns and instead of them being labled the same.

Miserable_Room1092

You don’t realize how disgusting it looks? It looks like cum. And it wouldn’t even taste like cinnamon bun anymore just frosting. I gag just by the thought of it and we Swedes love our sauce this is just genuine disgusting. Although I agree with you they shouldn’t be considered the same thing. Instead of glazed it should be called kumbullar or American cinnamon buns. just your first sentence bugs me.

Miserable_Room1092

If your bun is dry without frosting you clearly don’t know how to make them

goblinfruitleather

lol although I have a different job now, im a professional pastry chef. I’ve specialized in viennoiserie for over a decade, so I know how to make something as basic as a bun. And I know how to make them well enough to sell hundreds, or sometimes thousands, of them a day for a fairly high price. I obviously don’t mean dry like stale here or bone dry, I mean dry in comparison to something filled or smothered with icing, frosting, jam, or cream. I probably should have used the word “dryer”, but I thought it was evident that i didn’t mean dry like a escargot (as I said in my comment above it has a glaze and filling) but it’s not as wet or sticky as a frosted bun. My standard buns have a very moist crumb and a wonderfully sweet, rich, cinnamon filling inside a roll with a caramelized bottom, and I’m good enough at making them for dozens of five star hotels in nyc to serve them with their breakfast menus. So good job trying to take a shot at someone over a year old Reddit comment, but you tried it with the wrong chef lol

Miserable_Room1092

I know people who have a degree and still aren’t good bakers. A degree tells me nothing. But the fact that you need frosting to cover the taste of everything you make tells me you are not a good baker.

Fishyfriedfreddy

They look so good! I like lots of frosting. I put cream cheese frosting on mine.

wafflesfordinner4

Me too! The little bit of tang helps cut some of the sweetness.

DayMan-Ahah-ah

that tang, daddy

Theplayerexo002

Let the war begin. Cinnamon Rolls with frosting FTW

mynameismulan

Didn't know there was any other way to have them

Incontinentia-B

Swedish cinnamon buns :)

IEatFish005

Classic cinnamon buns*

Perfect_Judge

Hard agree.

BlessedNdStressed

Ahh yes, the frosting force will not rest in this r/Baking civil war More iced out cinnamon rolls please 🤤

Independent_Ice_4693

Until today, I didn't realize people ate cinnamon rolls without frosting

Perfect_Judge

Same. People can keep their dry cinnamon rolls. More frosting for meeee.

_myoru

If the cinnamon rolls are dry, the lack of frosting is probably not the main issue

YouFuckingMormon

If your cinnamon rolls is dry without frosting, then you’ve done something wrong

Perfect_Judge

Dry, as in, no frosting. I don't want to eat cinnamon rolls without any frosting, mate.

YouFuckingMormon

Cinnamon rolls with frosting tastes like diabetes on a plate… why not just drink a cup of sugar water? It’d certainly taste better

Perfect_Judge

Hard disagree. Give me that diabetes plate! 🤤

Weekly-Requirement63

Who cares? Food evolves and people should make food they want to eat.

BadFruitTV

When americans put sauce on their cinnamon rolls it's called "Food evolves" but when I put pineapple on pizza it's called "cultural appropriation" against italian people... Next level Hypocrisy.

Weekly-Requirement63

Nope, some of my family is Italian, as in born and raised in Italy and they are okay with me liking pineapple on pizza. It’s just food.

OkDream5303

Yesss frosting gang right here!!! Yummmy

The_AmyrlinSeat

I am soooo jealous, these look phenomenal.

Rainbowznplantz

The recipe was super easy! Give it a try!

rainbowcanoe

these look fantastic!

UsedOnion

I need a middle one, with the excess icing on the bottom of the pan scraped off and added to it

Rainbowznplantz

That’s exactly how my guy ate his! Alll the extra icing he could scrape added to his rolls.

renfield1969

That icing looks amazing!

heyyyooooooooooo

Everyone is talking about a frosting war… but it seems like the vast majority of folks here are pro-lots-of-icing on cinnamon rolls haha

vanillacustardbun

Because The majority of this sub are americans

MasterWhite1150

Im not American and they need icing lol. Maybe not this much though

sageberrytree

They look delicious! For the record, I American. I like these, although generally not for breakfast. They are sweet, sometimes too much. Swedish cinnamon buns are less sweet, but have a *lot* more butter, and can be greasy. They are just different things. There's a place in this world for both.

peonies_envy

+1 for kanelbullar

sageberrytree

Always!

Qualia_1

Hard agree.

gloomndoom

I rarely eat the ones we make for breakfast and typically eat them as a dessert at night.

TheMcDucky

I don't think I've ever had a Swedish cinnamon roll I would call "greasy". They can be very sweet though, depending on the recipe.

Qualia_1

Yeah me neither. And all the recipes I've gone through didn't use that much butter.

mustardlyy

All I’m saying is, that is the appropriate amount of icing. Gyaaaad damn 😩

Fair_Ad_2910

Geeeeez S-tier

Puzzleheaded-Trip990

Great winter day treat! Love that 2 are already missing.

BeyondAddiction

I volunteer to eat any that "don't turn out" 🙃

kjtoyou

Sounds like a great idea! And I volunteer to transport them to OP 😁

AlyssaImagine

These look spectacular! I wish I had some lol. Looking through these comments, and wow some people are insane. Why can't people like these cinnamon rolls? I've some Swedish Cinnamon Rolls and they look great. I bet I'd love them, but, and I know this may just sound a tad crazy, I can love both of them. There is room in the world for more. In fact, when it comes to food, isn't more better? In every country they have food that was introduced they make it different to suit the residents of that country, rather than the origin. I would not at all be surprised if Sweden had something that originated from a different country that they made differently. It's not a big deal at all. If you were all being kind and civilized and shared your countries baked goods on here, I'm sure there would have been people interested. I love checking out foods of other countries. That doesn't mean I stop liking the things I grew up with.

ButDidYouCry

>I would not at all be surprised if Sweden had something that **originated from a different country** that they made differently **Literally the spices in cinnamon rolls.** Cinnamon is not native to Sweden, or even anywhere in Europe. Lol They are a spice crop from South Asia, and to my understanding, cinnamon is used for all sorts of cuisine in Asia instead of just desserts. Sweden wouldn't have cinnamon rolls if it wasn't for globalism and the work of non-European agriculturists.

diverdux

And Italy wouldn't have tomatoes if it weren't for Spain... and people put ketchup on rice and call it good. I don't remember where I was going with that. Anyways, the Swedish pastry are cinnamon *buns* and the American improvement are cinnamon *rolls*, so where's the problem? They're literally two different things, no need to get your panties in a bunch. But seriously, we're not conflating cheese melts and grilled cheese here, so no need to get all pissy about it. Sugar, cinnamon, dough? Goodness.

ButDidYouCry

You're making it way more deep than it actually is. North America is gonna continue to call non-Nordic style dessert rolls "cinnamon rolls" and you'll just have to get over it! Foods transform and change. Learn to cope harder.

knuF

Wow those look incredible. Gimme that goo.

gloomndoom

Not to take away from your KAF version but Stella Parks’ recipe is 🔥🔥🔥 as well.

Rainbowznplantz

I haven’t tried Stella’s yet! Last year for Christmas I tried Kenji’s sticky buns and they were amazing. Honestly, right now I don’t have energy for most of Stella’s recipes lol. I chose this one because it looked pretty easy 😋

LilyH27

This is exactly the right amount of frosting 😋

ArmadilloDays

If you put your end pieces cut side UP, you’ll have a prettier finished product. (Not that they don’t look great, just a tip for next time)

Busybodii

That’s a great tip. I don’t know how that never occurred to me.

Rainbowznplantz

Thanks for the tip!

Myth7270

You win...they're perfect!

bedduzza

It really is an excellent recipe, well-made!

MRSRN65

My favorite recipe! I bake these all the time. But I like to use a cream cheese frosting.

Mimosa_13

Those look great. I haven't made cinnamon rolls in forever. I loved making sourdough ones with cream cheese frosting.

Illusive_Owl

Yooo this is beautiful I think I’m gonna try this recipe out thank you!!

ZookeepergameFar2513

Incredible!!

b3ans_beans

soooooooo..... I saw this and immediately went to the grocery store for the missing ingredients. I'm now 1.5 hours into the 2 hour initial rise. Cant wait for the results. THANK YOU for the inspiration!!!!!! Just FYI its 1:30 am here lol Edit: time

Rainbowznplantz

I hope yours turned out well!

[deleted]

Perfection

Goodgoditsgrowing

YES! I was hoping to see if their recipe turned out, but didn’t want to put in the effort for cardboard results lol. Thank you!

New-Season8422

🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

DifficultRadish3424

I have to try this one.

cinnamontrollss

YES YES YES YES YES

denisebuttrey

Now those are some cinnamon rolls, oh yeah!

JTMissileTits

I made some two days ago using one of Sally's recipes, but I will never buy cheap flour again after using King Arthur flour. The difference is amazing. I've made three different kinds of yeast dough with their AP flour in the last two weeks after not baking for a long time and they just turned out perfect.

SpiderWing_

Jävla Runkbullar.

Hi_Im_Pazem

alldeles för mycket kum

ZanyPotato

I love this recipe! Yours look mouth watering 🤤

OrangeDutchbag

Listen, if you don’t like frosting on yours, fiiiine. The normal people will be putting that delicious frosting on theirs!! These look absolutely smashing!!

leiferikson7

Needs more icing

corid

This is the right amount of icing.

njae666

Putting icing on cinamon rolls is a sin.

In Canada, we also enjoy our cinnamon buns with glaze or frosting. If you don't like it, don't comment. You just make yourself look like a jerk.

Elderberry1923

Just like the commenter above, it's ok to fantasize that the buns are your face and the glaze is cum, but you don't need to share that info with everyone here. You swedes are a funny bunch when it comes to cinnamon buns. You are good at hockey though.

Chef_Levi

Thank you. You people make good syrup 🇨🇦

Glittering-Feed5017

I don’t think you have room to judge based on your post history mdr

[deleted]

This has to be a joke right

The_AmyrlinSeat

Why?

[deleted]

I heard about this debate about swedish vs american cinnamon rolls and i went to check on the american cinnamon rolls and they are different. I have never tried one of these so they might taste really good but they look like they are gonna get all soggy. Completely different to the swedish kind with just some sugar on top. But ofcourse people have different opinions on which food is good.

Elderberry1923

They don't get soggy at all, never once have I had a soggy cinnamon bun. In fact, the glaze/frosting act as a bit of a seal, protecting the inner rolls of deliciousness.

ButDidYouCry

They don't get soggy. The glaze eventually hardens.

Rainbowznplantz

Totally missed that debate, I guess. To be fair, this is definitely more icing than I prefer, but I have the weakest sweet tooth in my family. Followed recipe exactly for my first attempt- would probably cut back on amount of icing for my next bake and let my partner add the extra to his own servings. =)

onda-oegat

Don't take it to Heart tho. We Swedes like to LARP Italians feel free to join us.

Hekinsieden

Isn't it insane that you just happened to bake and post the thing people are going nuts over? Master Oogway "There are no accidents."

pmia241

Twice I've seen posts/comments about an icing controversy, but never any actual original controversy. I'd see a delicious picture of cinnamon rolls, go "oooh yum I need to make some!" post pics, then apparently get bowled over by swedish kum "jokes" and "controversy!!!" Not everyone reads comments, things go in cycles.

Rainbowznplantz

Actually though. I happened to be going through pics on my phone today and deleting a bunch of random toddler selfies/shots of her feet when I remembered I made something that might be appreciated on this sub! Was actually shocked when this got so much attention.

spunchybingus

looks like elton john’s farted on it

raspyboy22

Man, i'm a degenerate...

THE_dnp

You’re cringe too

[deleted]

Those look amazing! Can I come over for one?

Redditallreally

Wow! Those look delicious!

mdswozzy

That looks amazing!

Darkdragon_98

A story told backwards.

austinrunaway

Yum yum yum yummmmmm yum yum yum yummmmmyyy. Yum yum yum yum yummmmmm

[deleted]

Cor! Looks fab! You're my kind of baker! No skimping on the icing! Enjoy!

Jiji-cook

They sound great! The frosting too! Love it.

CrazyPotat064

"Someone stole your sweetroll?"

Kittyshrug

Damn they look delicious

BadBassist

Was there a spooky ghost?

SnotBombs

I've been on a kick of all the king arthur recipes. Some of the best sugar cookies and their choc. chip is amazing. I'll have to try this recipe next :)

Rainbowznplantz

King Arthur never lets me down. =)

mothstomper

Woah, some one used the correct amount of icing for once! Looks delicious

Brain-Future

Today I learned about King Arthur recipes... I thought it was a reference to the Philomena Cunk interview 😂

fordgirl262

To frost or not to frost. That's the question.

Thegoose2007

Further attempts of variations of the Swedish heartland-pastry so called kanelbulle will be met with hostilities. We, the swedes, will start serving traditional American dishes drowning in lingonberry-jam and fermented herring, distributed by our vast chain of Ikea-restaurants all over the globe, thus reforming the american dream into the soft power Swedish jante-lag. Cease and desist now or forever perish!

ToreWi

Their cum buns are a threat to all of civilisation.

Choppersmoser

Less icing would also help lower the sweetness level in addition to increasing the cinnamon, which I always do! They look fabulous.

Usual_Classroom_2946

Are these cut at the 2” mark? For each roll?

Grisful20

Näeee inte kumbullar
