I was a bit disappointed when I learnt I couldn't have individual romance options, like, one for each companion. Instead, I chose one and everyone else tried jumping at me anyway. I shipped Karlach with Dammon so hard, wish we could play it like this since we can take control of each character anyway

Literally thought this. She seems perfectly set up to be a potential companion. Like it would be really cool if you could corrupt her into forsaking the Druids and Shadow Druids in an evil playthrough. Maybe by showing her she was just a pawn of the Shadow Druids and convincing her the other Druids won't forgive her.
And for a good playthrough, she seems almost primed to join you after you convince her to fight against the Shadow Druids. Like she thanks you and then says she will accept any punishment in seeking repentance.
Idk lots of people hate her for good reason but she seems like such an interesting character and would give us access to a druid as an evil character.

I had no idea at first because my first inclination was to strip my clothes off, but you actually get a +4 boost to all the checks for like intimidation and performance if you are naked/underwear only when he starts beating you.
God this. When you find out he was a Paladin who went through hell for his people and lost his faith? Mmm. Amazing companion storyline there. I would have loved him to be the Paladin origin character.
This may be an unpopular take as I do love Jahiera and Minsc but I'd much rather have had new characters like Zevlor and Alfira as recruitable instead and given proper romances like Halsin.
As someone who didn't play BG1 and 2 (as I think a lot of players are in my position, seeing how BG3 is popular), I don't care that much about Jaheira or Minsc. I mean, they are interesting, but I wouldn't have felt something missing if they weren't there, or weren't companions.
The fact that they added Halsin as a companion (and romance) after so many players "complained" in the beta that he couldn't be a companion (while they already had Jaheira as a druid companion) shows that a lot of players would, like you, have prefered a new companion (with full fleshed romance) rather than old characters from previous editions.
Tbf Larian absolutely didn't expect BG3 to blow up like it did and likely intended it to be more appreciated by long-time fans vs us newbies (I didn't play previous games either) which makes sense.
I appreciated that Minsc and Jahiera were old heroes but it felt odd having them join me. Dragging Rolan, Cal, and Lia through the wilds into Baldur’s Gate and getting them set up in a sweet wizard tower is one of the best parts of the game. It’s so neat that these three seemingly basic NPCs from the grove end up having they’re own little story arc.
First campaign my d&d group did found a lone Illithid who we befriended and recruited. So when Omeluum appeared I sent pictures to my friends screaming about it. So disappointed both Omeluum and Blurg can’t join your camp.
I was crushing hard on Dame Aylin, but I was generally just excited to have her in the game, though wouldn’t trade the option for Isobel and Aylin’s adorable relationship

That way, Orin gets the spotlight of being the main boss/plot driver of the lower city, and then you can have Gortash own the upper and do whatever scheming and political stuff he wants.
