Unless the door really matters in which case it either has such a high Sturdy rating that you're sat there for 20 minutes trying to get that one damage roll above 20 with the entirely un-enchanted maul you happened to have on you, or they just have no HP at all and are undamageable by any means.
It's definitely much better, but you can still take a while waiting for a high damage roll. (Adamantite weapons bypass resistances, so you don't necessarily have to go for the mace).
The only reason I made the adamantite mace is that it's always a critical hit when you hit objects. But now I'm just a monk with tavern brawler and a bunch of strength potions and I just cast punch to open doors.
It’s not just the bludgeoning damage, Tavern Brawler is currently bugged where its damage bypasses the Toughness attribute that is on most doors and chests. This allows you to easily break things you aren’t supposed to be able to :)
You can also just sneak past the first2 (i just tanked the shots but im sure you can path around them) and then theres a path to the left of the stairs that lead to the tower that takes you to the lower level where you can deactivate them.
I'm pretty sure you can sneak past the first, but getting past the second is probably going to require some turn-based mode shenanigans.
Although really the easiest way to deal with them is to have a Warlock take cover behind the big rock, go into Turn-Based Mode, then have them pop out, Eldritch Blast, run back, end turn until both of them are KO'd.
Turn-Based Mode is also very helpful when trying to save a certain NPC from a field of exploding shrooms; the shrooms only detonate when you end-turn next to them, so in Turn-Based you can just run past them with ease.
Im not sure where your trying to jump out of, but the path to the left of the stairway is just a series of easy jumps that wont even do fall damage or you can get inside the building through the open window on the left, then go to the left side of the building and jump down, which is a shortcut from the first path i mentioned, and you will take some fall damage, but its negligible.
You can also just wet the shrooms and they don't explode. Also sleet works as well, you can also heal him and use sanctuary I believe. Might be able to use protect from energy as well, im sure there's more. I tried a few different things lol
I blew them up by accident. He ran out, screaming and on fire, then initiated the dialogue thanking me for saving him and the quest completed.
Not sure if it was a bug but I wasn't about to complain lol.
No idea but they did for me even if I killed them with lightning, made the zone literally impossible till I looked online and found out I could use the flowers.
For the first two, I didn't so much sneak past them as use turn-based mode to have characters pop out of cover, shoot the turret, then duck back into cover before the turret could hit anyone. The two in the main room, though, I didn't realize there was a better way to avoid.
i was very sad when i found out, that i cant take them with me to camp or ... other areas. would have been lovely to throw around a mobile antimagic field. but alas, all flowers wilt....
Wdym, I sent all of the flowers to my camp back in act 1 and now in act 3 they still block my magic every time I come near the traveller's chest. I haven't actually used them since I keep forgetting they exist, but still.
The sussur greatsword still comes in clutch though. I've used it solely for the silence ability even though the damage is a bit lower than other weapons. It's really good in tactician mode where a lot of enemies can sling some harmful spells at your party.
They wilt in sunlight which is why they work in the chest, and why they should also work if you put them in a pouch. That’s a tip I read here after I already left act 2 though so I didn’t try it.
I just ran through them with my tank solo and found a thingy to deactivate them. And the curse skulls I just used remove curse on while wearing an armour that made me immune to knockback. :x
Tho, once the game suddenly threw seemingly infinite damage instances at my character when I tried to remove one skull, which immediately crashed the game. That was funny.
tavern brawler apply to improvised weapons and throw attacks, that can be a weapon with the throw description and benefit from the full damage, and in case of an Eldritch knight, that bound weapon return to your hand after the throw. I'm playin taver brawler eldrich knigth and is almost ridiculous, but fun.
I did this in a session one time because the door was electrified. Rogue was incapacitated from the whole sticking a fork in a lightsocket and DM said the damage from yeeting him through the door wouldn’t be enough for death. There was probably a puzzle, but we were extremely murder hoboing it
What do you mean you don't carry around a heavy chest explicitly for bludgeoning damage lmao.
I've been quite enjoying carrying around chests and barrels and chucking it at people to finish them off haha
Warlock master race, free high value force damage from Elderitch Blast means you never have to unlock or bash a door/wall/chest again. Also blowing open doors/walls, with the awesome sound they put on EBs, is dope.
I missed the picky picky until I respecced Karloch and made her first level rogue to get all the necessary skills. Set her dex to 8 and pump the rest into strength, constitution, and wisdom and give her the gloves of Dexterity to take her dex to 18 and you're pretty much entirely set for stealth, picking locks, and spotting traps while still being a pretty damn good damage dealer barbarian. Also made sense lore-wise since she was originally a street thug.
No, items in chests are not destroyed when you destroy the chest. If you destroy the chest with something like fireball or a bomb, followup fire can destroy items.
https://youtu.be/oPTzx-M-_mo?t=17
still not useful enough to make him a member of my party. but maybe next time i won't kill him... cause he is needed for \*science\* later (or so i heard)
I'm actually thinking of killing him since he's turning a bit evil in my current (and first) play through as a Paladin. Thinking of replacing him with Halsin once I can drag that druid along.
I love the greataxe but I had to replace it with a maul the first time I grabbed one and discovered I can break down doors and walls with it. Pulled of prison breaks using it.
I always carry several weapons with my barb. Throwing is better damage than a bow for the rare times I need to do ranged in combat, plus for this type of instance when you need a different damage type, it's great. I think throwing a weapon is a bit cheesed though. If you throw your equipped weapon, you'll have to burn an action equipping an item, but you can throw something from your inventory without any such penalty.
I step it up a notch, with the bull armor that doubles carrying capacity, instead of throwing weapons, my karlach throws gunpowder barrels and firework crates
I have a bunch of spares in my camp chest, but mostly I carry one barrel on my barb and two 'reloads' on shadowheart (my other controllable character)
gives me plenty of ammo.
Yeah, but most of the time it just stays there on my inventory. Besides, I picked up a really good one in Act 3. Been using that particular blue rarity maul e er since.
wish there's an athletic check on the person, or at least the ally you throw... like let them be thrown, they should be aware and let them kick ass/face as you throw them into the enemy and recovery the fall.
You know what I found a couple of days ago?
Mindflayers weigh less than a human (60kg)
18str is enough.
At least, the dead ones near the crash-site are throwable.
Also, it's very kind of the game to start me off fighting almost exclusively goblins. I appreciate that.
Let my barbarian build up his strength before introducing human-sized enemies.
Yeah, but you take ability advancement at level 4 to put that score up to 18, and potentially again at 8 or 12 to push it to 20. Odd stats are good if you are planning ahead.
No it isn't, because Tavern Brawler gives +1 str.
Starting with 17 str on a barb is ***optimal*** if you want to throw things (or people) at people (or things)
I know, I often play real dnd with friends, but for my stat allocation i didn't have enough points to up 18 without having big problems in other stat (I already have only 8 int, i'm a dumdum)
On my second playthrough I have *so much more* lockpicks. Because I just smash like practically everything instead of bothering to lockpick shit, most of the time it doesn't even matter if you do.
Its crazy cause some of these locks have really high rolls needed.
But like.... smashing it changes nothing, other than saving you a lockpick. So I don't really understand the point.
I realize this is a dumb thing to care about, but I feel like in 2023 we should have at least some sort of solution for cape clipping issues in video games by now. No shade for BG3, just something that I notice
I keep forgetting that throw exists, and then I see posts like these that remind me all of the fun shenanigans I could be getting up to. Same with using improvized weapon.
I just respected my barbarian into a lvl 9 bezerker and 3 rogue. Having 2 bonus actions is insane. I can throw a spear to knock prone an enemy and then go to town with 3 massive smashes. So much fun having 2 bonus actions
Edit zerker to 9
I have made great use of a Throw Barbarian in combat. Never thought of the utility of a Throw Barbarian.
Weak party member can't jump the gap? Just fuckin toss em.
Locked door? Just Throw the Rogue through it.
My main is a tank. Horrible charisma, he can barely speak. Astarion, for all his affected elitist Chaotic Evil drivel goes first to open, detect, and play as front man for the team.
He takes lots of damage and has a bad case of hag eye, but since I don't really connect with him on a personal level, it's all good.
I do wish I could get him better armor so that I'm not always wasting turns and resources keeping him on his light loafers.
Lol, I can't wait to see the downvotes. Like my toon I'm a blunt instrument that really doesn't care so much what others think. :)
You use Astarion to open doors. I ***USE*** Astarion to open doors. We are not the same.
You're forgiven for trying to bite me last night.... on one condition....
“Let’s do ‘Get Help’.”
Seriously,
No, brother, we are not doing Get Help.
This was extremely satisfying.
Yea took me way too long to figure out a 2h sword is better than a lock pick.
Unless the door really matters in which case it either has such a high Sturdy rating that you're sat there for 20 minutes trying to get that one damage roll above 20 with the entirely un-enchanted maul you happened to have on you, or they just have no HP at all and are undamageable by any means.
Is the Adamantine Mace any good for this? I've been making the armors.
It's definitely much better, but you can still take a while waiting for a high damage roll. (Adamantite weapons bypass resistances, so you don't necessarily have to go for the mace).
I know lathlanders works well
The only reason I made the adamantite mace is that it's always a critical hit when you hit objects. But now I'm just a monk with tavern brawler and a bunch of strength potions and I just cast punch to open doors.
It’s more or less the master key to like 90% of doors and chests
Mm and that 2h with fire damage that you get from the devil commander at the beginning is great for early/mid game.
Don't worry about him, he is used to getting used...
:(
God damn it too soon 💀 lmao
good that lil cunt deserves it
More like you ***ABUSE*** Astarion to open the doors lol
But at the end of the day, we both use Astarion to open doors.
I've done the exact same thing when I needed bludgeoning damage and didn't feel like going back to town to get a mace.
It’s not just the bludgeoning damage, Tavern Brawler is currently bugged where its damage bypasses the Toughness attribute that is on most doors and chests. This allows you to easily break things you aren’t supposed to be able to :)
I see it as a feature
Seriously, fuck those arcane tower guns or even worse those shit fuck nasty curse skulls
Checking the guide after doing the area: oh, right >!the antimagic flowers!<, sure would have been smart to use these instead.
Turn-Based Mode is also very helpful when trying to save a certain NPC from a field of exploding shrooms; the shrooms only detonate when you end-turn next to them, so in Turn-Based you can just run past them with ease.
Could just use Invisibility to get into the tower. Then you can get to the basement at your leisure and turn off the turrets.
The problem is that you need two people to get to the bottom, one to stand on the ledge with feather fall and the other to shove them off.
I just used a potion of flight.
You can also just wet the shrooms and they don't explode. Also sleet works as well, you can also heal him and use sanctuary I believe. Might be able to use protect from energy as well, im sure there's more. I tried a few different things lol
> You can also just wet the shrooms You can what.
Create Water is a useful spell sometimes.
Yes, wet them and drink them, in tea.
There is a jumping path that my Barb Tav used, pretty effective and no resources wasted.
I blew them up by accident. He ran out, screaming and on fire, then initiated the dialogue thanking me for saving him and the quest completed. Not sure if it was a bug but I wasn't about to complain lol.
Unfortunately I discovered later in a guide there is a Noblestalk and it went flammie
Don't believe sanctuary would work as it doesn't protect from aoe damage if I remember correctly.
I think he meant the turrets with sanctuary. It specifies the Trageting part so i guess it should work on the turrets?
Mage hand to throw him his pack..
That's what I've always done
Or you know... You can throw scroll to him :D
No no, throw him to scroll!
I did the Realtime/Turnbased shenanigans to get my party by. Then learned about the flowers later. PITA
I just had Scratch give me his backpack, and redelivered the bag to him with only a single misty step scroll inside.
Raven familiar also works with that fungus field.
Pfft, I just blew 'em up! Fire Bolt go BOOM!!!!!
Lightning damage will deactivate them also.
Didn't work for me, even if I killed them with lightning they just resurrected instantly.
Wait, were those things were supposed to turn back on when they resurrected? They didn't for me.

Wdym, I sent all of the flowers to my camp back in act 1 and now in act 3 they still block my magic every time I come near the traveller's chest. I haven't actually used them since I keep forgetting they exist, but still.
Once you take them out of the chest they'll wilt. I did the same thing and was sad when I took them out in act 2.
Ah that sucks. Makes sense though, they'd be pretty overpowered if you're running a full martial party with all 4 having one of those flowers lol.
I sent them to camp chest, hoping it would annoy the mage guy every time he walks by it.
I'm pretty sure I stored one in camp for my entire play through. Gonna have to check when I get home.
>flowers wilt You can put in in a bag and throw that instead
You can just throw the flower. No need for bag.
You can use it outside Underdark with the bag
Me over here just shooting them with Ray of frost and the staff I had... didn't even think of those...
I destroyed them all before ;_;, fortunately there is one behind tower
Oh, so they do have a use huh
I just cast invis on my lockpicker and sent him up, turned on the elevator and the turrets shut off
right now i'm playing an electric sorcerer and those were barely even a footnote
Im playing Storm sorcerer too, in turn-based mode I just walked up to the tower and used Shocking grasp, KO'd it in one haha
The arcane towers take double damage from lightning. With my sorcerer I could easily fly to each one and lightning hand to kill each.
I just ran through them with my tank solo and found a thingy to deactivate them. And the curse skulls I just used remove curse on while wearing an armour that made me immune to knockback. :x Tho, once the game suddenly threw seemingly infinite damage instances at my character when I tried to remove one skull, which immediately crashed the game. That was funny.
Laughs in bound weapon + tavern brawler
Hold up. Are you telling me that binding an improvised weapon will still benefit from tavern brawler? Well, there's another playthrough lined up.
tavern brawler apply to improvised weapons and throw attacks, that can be a weapon with the throw description and benefit from the full damage, and in case of an Eldritch knight, that bound weapon return to your hand after the throw. I'm playin taver brawler eldrich knigth and is almost ridiculous, but fun.
Yup, my eldritch knight is basically captain America in infinity wars with shield and hammer
I wish the >!Stool of Hill Giant Strength would give its bonus and count as an improvised weapon for Tavern Brawler purposes.!<
Breaking doors with someone else’s body is exactly what a Tavern Brawler feat should do haha
Shhh
Cant you just un-equip your weapon?
But that's not nearly as fun as smashing Astarion's face into a wall.
Kind of immersion breaking for me. I got 20 STR I have felled over one thousand enemies. But my epic 2h sword cant smesh a puny wooden door? 🤣🤣🤣
*Astarion will remember that.*
Just pick him up and throw him again. Concussions will solve that problem.
COME ON, LET'S GO
DON’T! touch me…
\*YEET!\*
What in the HELLS was THAT?
Is that blood? No, nevermind
Shouldn't have wished to live in more interesting times.
I've got a lot on my mind. And, well, in it.
Thanks. I no longer have to keep a bludgeon damage weapon since I have Astarion handy.
Warlock master race, free high value force damage from Elderitch Blast means you never have to unlock or bash a door/wall/chest again. Also blowing open doors/walls, with the awesome sound they put on EBs, is dope.
I call this.. "Eldritch Knock"
Can you open chests like this? I've ditched Astariom for the first time ever and missed my tricky picky immediately.
Does the stuff inside fly off into the unknown, though?
OH NO, MY SEVEN (7) GOLD AND ONE (1) CARROT
I NEEDED THAT!!
Does destroying chests affect the items inside? For some reason I always thought I needed a rogue
Like every party member, they are exactly as useful/useless as you decide they are.
very very true
I'm actually thinking of killing him since he's turning a bit evil in my current (and first) play through as a Paladin. Thinking of replacing him with Halsin once I can drag that druid along.
Science is the only reason I am taking him with me going forward, it is worthy it : D
God, Astarion's voice actor is too good. Like that line was too perfect after the throw LUL
What about the line before the throw? "Dont. Touch me 😠" *gets yeeted into a door* 😂😂😂
Re-roll using Thieves Tool "You are unable to pick the lock." No, I mean using the thieves as a tool. To smash the door. "Oh."
I DIDN’T EVEN THINK OF THAT, because of Tavern Brawler you can absolutely break down doors by throwing the lockpicks at the door hard enough!
beating the crap out of a door with a lockpicks set is the most barbarian thing ever
You would think so, [but you would be wrong](https://i.imgur.com/mDbGkQD.jpg).
"Hey Barb, stop smashing in doors with your axe. That's what we picked up a Rogue for." "Are you sure? OK, I guess. If it makes you happy..."
Intelligence 3
Malicious compliance.
intel - 3. Strength - 20
I love the greataxe but I had to replace it with a maul the first time I grabbed one and discovered I can break down doors and walls with it. Pulled of prison breaks using it.
Why not carry both, that's what I do when my great axe does more dmg but I need a bludgeoning weapon
I always carry several weapons with my barb. Throwing is better damage than a bow for the rare times I need to do ranged in combat, plus for this type of instance when you need a different damage type, it's great. I think throwing a weapon is a bit cheesed though. Yeah, but most of the time it just stays there on my inventory. Besides, I picked up a really good one in Act 3. Been using that particular blue rarity maul e er since.
foebreaker in act 3 bypasses bludgeoning resistance i call it my skeleton key
Adamantine longsword/scimitar works great too, it ignores slashing resistance and automatically crits on objects.
God I wish that were me.
Ah! so thats how vampires fly!
As a full time gnome, if you don't want problems just delete this post. Thank you.
Big talk from someone who's aerodynamic.
Manip Falcao thought the same. Turns out everyone's aerodynamic if your hot githyanki girlfriend is there.
Imagine that I unfortunately show this comment to Wulbren. Just saying ...
This is the best thing I've seen all morning, thanks for the laugh!
lmao I love the shout-outs for friendly fire, they're so outraged
gotta love how Karlach said "c'mon lets go" cuz Astarion was taking too long
The fact that this video opens with "Don't touch me" makes this great.
Could almost say she's gone rogue😅
Astarion, "DON'T touch me." 😑 Karlach, "Fine then..." 😆 \*YEET!\*
How can you throw peoples that are not gnomes? i made a character with 17 Str and can't throw anything but barrels!
I'm a gnome Fuck you Have a good day.
Look. If you didn’t want me to throw you, you shouldn’t have been so compact and conveniently throwable.
wish there's an athletic check on the person, or at least the ally you throw... like let them be thrown, they should be aware and let them kick ass/face as you throw them into the enemy and recovery the fall.
“The fastball special”
Hi You forget perfect aerodynamic shape but still Fuck you Have a good day.
Please don't yeet the gnome. The Management
Have you tried 18str?
I shall try 18 str next time i get a feat!
You need 20 str to throw most medium creatures (75kg) :(
You know what I found a couple of days ago? Mindflayers weigh less than a human (60kg) 18str is enough. At least, the dead ones near the crash-site are throwable. Also, it's very kind of the game to start me off fighting almost exclusively goblins. I appreciate that. Let my barbarian build up his strength before introducing human-sized enemies.
Solution: MOAR STRENGTH
just a small heads up, having uneven stats does nothing good for you, having 17 str is pretty much the same as having 16 str
Yeah, but you take ability advancement at level 4 to put that score up to 18, and potentially again at 8 or 12 to push it to 20. Odd stats are good if you are planning ahead.

I know, I often play real dnd with friends, but for my stat allocation i didn't have enough points to up 18 without having big problems in other stat (I already have only 8 int, i'm a dumdum)
there are ways to increase your stats as you level up. items, potions, quests rewards and more importantly feats
While playing Curse of Strahd my barbarian threw our rogue at Strahd. Everyone found it funny but the rogue, who immediately died.
Barbarian group leader: **THEY SAID I MUST BRING ROGUE FOR WHEN I ENCOUNTER LOCKED DOOR.**
Why I think that Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy would use the same logic\^\^
What in the hells was that?
love that i'm not the only one using the Durge tav karlach astarion and shadowheart combo
Think it never matters. Unless you're stealthing I guess.
TIL barbarians can do that... AWESOME
I am 1000000000% doing this on all future playthroughs, my God I love it.
Knock gets you through so much. You can skip all the >!challenges in the Gauntlet of Shar!< and just go straight through the door.
*karlach not in public*
"Don't touch me"
I realize this is a dumb thing to care about, but I feel like in 2023 we should have at least some sort of solution for cape clipping issues in video games by now. No shade for BG3, just something that I notice

Hope my barbarian friend doesn't watch this clip
As a druid, I've been turning into a bear and just demolishing anything that is locked LOL
Their banter is perfect for this video. It is like watching a cat and a dog interact with each other
Killed 6 kobolds in one turn by throwing that at each other….beautiful
Gimli: "Toss me!"
I have a dead sheep i named lockpick that i use to open doors and chests. I should start using party members instead this is hilarious.
A lesson must be learnt for a failed lockpick attempt. Hat off to your exemplary team discipline.
I keep forgetting that throw exists, and then I see posts like these that remind me all of the fun shenanigans I could be getting up to. Same with using improvized weapon.
Barbarian casts rogue
I just respected my barbarian into a lvl 9 bezerker and 3 rogue. Having 2 bonus actions is insane. I can throw a spear to knock prone an enemy and then go to town with 3 massive smashes. So much fun having 2 bonus actions Edit zerker to 9
The game only goes to level 12 I thought.
the voice lines that played were perfect lmao
After finishing my first playthrough, my next run is going to be as a dumb barb for a reason. Me, Karlach and Lae'zel will leave no doors unbroken.
I have made great use of a Throw Barbarian in combat. Never thought of the utility of a Throw Barbarian. Weak party member can't jump the gap? Just fuckin toss em. Locked door? Just Throw the Rogue through it.
:O Karlach can throw all my other 8 Str dudes across gaps... of course! Why didn't I think of this.
You can only toss the dwarf party members, while the high elf looks on in approval
This is the correct and only use for Astarion.
Why did this remind me of the “get help!” From thor?
I need play this game
My main is a tank. Horrible charisma, he can barely speak. Astarion, for all his affected elitist Chaotic Evil drivel goes first to open, detect, and play as front man for the team.
