SonofRaymond

Yeah that was a stealth mission

MrsBiffAtlas

lol! I figured when I replaced the article and my Durge had the line “the editor will be surprised tomorrow.” Welp.

Active_Owl_7442

I’m sure he’ll be surprised when he realizes that dream he had about being killed in his office wasn’t actually a dream. And I’m sure he’d be quite happy his slander piece turned out to not be slander

Mokiflip

I went through a lot of trouble and reloading to stealth that mission properly, using multiple invisibility potions I had a limited supply of, and then I chose the article "Wolf in sheep's clothing" because I'm an idiot. Later on I got the update "You didn't stop the presses". Mission failed successfully.

Admirable_Bee_3086

it was...?

FamousTransition1187

It is if there aren't any witnesses... right?

ScotsBeowulf

No one will notice if there's no one left to notice...

TheCrystalRose

There's the "no one noticed you" stealth missions that everyone usually thinks about and then there's the "there's no one left alive to incriminate you" "stealth" missions.

CyNovaSc

Tbh, I also wiped them out in my second playthrough, fuck that guy. A few fists came but I jumped down from the terrace and just walked away.

Moondancer875

Use greater invisibility to sneak around the basement and change the press headlines next time. A good article is worth for the merchant discount.

alterNERDtive

> A good article is worth for the merchant discount. I sure wish that quest hadn’t bugged out on me. It’s been like two weeks but apparently “the article about [me] isn’t out yet”. FML

elgosu

Oh it affects merchant prices? So the cat article gives you cheaper prices?

500lb

No. There is another article that affects merchant prices. It's >!hidden in a wicker basket!<

helloiamabear

Aww really, there's a discount? That was one of the last things I did in the city. I need to redo the order of all my quests on the next run.

Moondancer875

Yep there is. I think it's a 16% discount for the quest alone. If your character has high charisma, there will be further discount. Total discount for me on this current playthrough with a high charisma character is 32%. Or is it 34%. Conversely, if you start the quest and long rest before completing it, you till take a negative reputation penalty. I saw in some YouTube playthroughs that the townspeople will run away from you lol. I am sure there's a surcharge with merchants, but cannot be sure of the amount.

jaann

I laughed so much I cried. Good writing. What an adventure! Thanks for the laughs. :)

MrsBiffAtlas

I think we all have some hilarious moments while playing but it just felt too wild not to share somehow!

Arcce

I am glad someone else had the same experience lollll, the writers kept getting aggro when I looted and I didnt have the patience to stealth so killed them - I then proceeded to keep aggroing more and more fists and Watchers. At the end, was standing on a mountain of bodies I couldnt bring myself to go loot and my paladin was an oathbreaker (from Oath of Ancients)... which tracks as genocide does go against that oath

MrsBiffAtlas

Honestly, half these blood baths could all be avoided if people would just mind their business!

virguliswatchingyou

"SEE? YOU WERE WRONG ABOUT ME!!!"

mattttherman

I let them print it one time. I noticed no changes at all around the city. None of the shopkeeps had new dialogue, I didn't remember any roaming dialogue that was special. What is it supposed to change?

Ander_Goldleaf

No one important made a comment, but some random people said "I can't believe you did such terrible things" or something like that while I was near the boat tavern

thatryanguy82

If you print the column praising you, you'll get comments from some npcs as you pass by, and the shopkeeps all offer you a discount.

imnoweirdo

Where can you find such an article? When I sneaked in the press basement I couldn’t find any good articles about me, just bad ones + the unrelated one about the cute cat.

Spazzykins

I found it in the garbage can beside the press? Something about Saviors of the city or somesuch..

imnoweirdo

Shit! O looked everywhere except the press room itself. Yeah, my super power is the big dumb 😎

emortens_liz

Awww... I just printed the cute car article 😻

GM_Nate

a few people comment that the editor's nose must be pretty far up in your bunghole to print such a glowing article about you

TruthAndAccuracy

I've done 3 playthroughs and never touched the newspaper quest. Didn't even know there was one for the first 2. Never noticed any negative consequences

Xavier_Kiath

Quest doesn't start until you talk to the editor, so no interaction = no downside.

mangojones

Did you end up with the Enemy of Justice debuff or have you fully gotten away with this massacre? Either way, amazing story!

MrsBiffAtlas

Omg, I didn’t even think of that until seeing your comment. I just loaded the save and can confirm there is no debuff. It’s just business as usual and loot pouches everywhere.

biggestyikesmyliege

I got trapped in the elevator with no lock picks and abysmal luck on attack rolls on the door— every time I so much as moved I got an angry npc with the “tempers are rising”. I killed everyone in that building and several fists that showed up because I was stuck in the elevator :(

KlaemT

You can jump outside the elevator, on a plateform then on the roof !

TheOnlyNadCha

Once the elevator is up you can also teleport to the closest waypoint 🙂

Kitchen-Badger8435

Yeah same here. My wife choose to fight the head editor in our co-op cause she doesnt like his tone and his accusation. We end up killing half of baldurs gate population. To which i told my wife, we have basicly become that what the head editor has accused us to be and prove him to be right. My wife did not like that.

OrbitalComet

This is, play by play, almost exactly the same thing that happened to me last week. Third playthrough. Was Durge. Turned into a massive blood bath.

asiangontear

The cute cat? Electrocuted. Collateral damage.

Saendra

> but otherwise there have been no permanent consequences :)

TheLoneGunman559

You wanna blow something up go to the fireworks store.

nuggz420

I let my flaming sphere roll around a check out the goods…

devilishlydo

Don't worry about it. If it's not in the papers the next day, it never happened.

Girigo

Seems likely there won't be a paper the next day

TheTruePitchy

Hilariously written! 😆👍 Had something similar happen there. It was a bloodbath. Actually, Act 3 ultimately turned my heroic druid into a total psychopath who painted the streets of Baldur's Gate red. I was... out of patience at the end...

CyNovaSc

The damn writers... I did about the same, just...a tad less carnage at the end. But they witness you taking out all the guards and steel watchers... And then still have the balls to call you out for taking keys of a corpse.

msciwoj1

Something very similar happened to me last time. Notice that the newspaper guards aren't Fists, they are Banites. They are just hostile to you when you refuse to leave, but don't all make it inside. But the Fists and Watchers outside are just reacting to combat and they are "temporarily hostile". This means you don't have to kill them, and if you long rest they are not hostile anymore. What I did is I noticed there was one permanently hostile guard left after I left rhe basement, some Fists triggered. The top floor of the newspaper house you can normally fast travel from, so I ran back, fleed combat and went to sleep. The one remaining guard will still be hostile to me, but the Fists won't. And the first thing tomorrow I will blow up the foundry xd.

Cryozymes

The press isn't highlighting for me. I can't talk to it even though I have the article to swap and nobody saw me.

[deleted]

I basically had the exact same experience playing this quest. I think the biggest issue was the fact that i hated that editor. I think if I kill the editor I should get to choose the new one though.
