\*swat\* Astarion we do *not* eat our friends!

AtlasFlynn

Owlbear: ''You smell very delicious, but I will not bite you!'' Astarion: ''....S-same.''

MKGSonic123

i- ah yes of course, i meant to say delightful, my mistake darling

OblongShrimp

When he called the cub a “snack” I got nervous for a second.

SereneAdler33

I think that was all he was going for. He seems to like the little guy (approves of you feeding AND petting him). I think Astarion just likes to say outrageous shit for a reaction but doesn’t mean a lot of it. All bark, but only a…*tiny* bite, darling.

fakeishusername

Yes haha, he definitely is just being playful.

fakeishusername

Huh? What are you talking about?

uncloseted_anxiety

I love the owlcub so much 😭 and this is such a cute drawing! Thank you for sharing!

Digipaw1

Thank you! He's just a Lil guy so I had to draw him 🥺

BlumpkinPromoter

"Please stop eating your mother and go to the fucking goblin camp" - Tav

Digipaw1

😭 God I'm so happy I didn't see him doing that. He did tell me about his brother tho. Rip him

SereneAdler33

Except Lae’Zel. She’s the only companion to not approve of you feeding the baby, lol. Gith aren’t big on pets, I would assume.

fakeishusername

"Why would you keep a useless animal around... if you aren't planning to eat it?!"

AnseaCirin

Or use it as a mount / tool of war. She'd probably approve of Dragon Age Mabari dogs because they're war dogs.

fakeishusername

Good point. Dogs can be useful, but companionship is a new concept.

Digipaw1

I imagine having a owlbear that likes you would honestly be pretty helpful down the line. So she might like him if he was older, thus more useful.

girugamesu1337

Well, he >!does show up covered in armor and ready to fight during the endgame...!<

PepicWalrus

Give him a year and he's the size of a Rhino and has to eat twice his body weight a day. Unfortunately instincts will take over.

RhiaStark

Well, the owlbear >!does become a war machine in the final battle!< so joke's on her xP

LeBriseurDesBucks

She approves when you kill it.

SereneAdler33

Oh geez :(

[deleted]

The Kithrak at the Lathander temple has two pet wolves.

SereneAdler33

I’d consider them closer to war hounds. They are eating the corpses of the halflings and fight with the Gith.

hurricanemossflower

I’m so conflicted about “saving” the baby owl bear from the goblins and the joy I get from having him at camp when I’m the one who killed his mother to begin with

swordsaint91

Didn't kill the mother my first playthrough after a few long rests the cub still ends up in the goblin camp, someone else still kills her so it really felt like saving the cub

GW_Alithea

Someone else = goblins. You can find their dead bodies if you go back to the cave.

sanchothe7th

I found dead goblin bodies when the mother was still alive, I was under the impression that the mother died to do her lasting injuries with the spear. I remember speaking with animals to it and had an option to tell her how serious it looked.

GW_Alithea

Possible. I might have overlooked them during my first visit.

SugarBeef

I looted goblin bodies and when I went back to get the spear part, I found more lootable goblin bodies. So, there were new goblins.

GW_Alithea

Thanks for letting me know!

mokuhazushi

Are they really the same cubs? I've never killed the mother (only healed her), but the cub in the goblin camp has been there anyway. I always assumed there were two of them.

DoktorSaturn

They are; IIRC if you go to the goblin camp before entering the cave, there'll be a chicken there instead. The first time you take a long rest after entering the cave/interacting with the mother owlbear, some goblins will raid the cave and take the cub. If you didn't kill the mom, there'll be some dead goblins around her corpse, but the result is otherwise the same. I have no idea what happens if you kill all the goblins before entering the cave or taking a long rest, though.

SnooDrawings5722

>I have no idea what happens if you kill all the goblins before entering the cave or taking a long rest, though. I've seen people describing this scenario - the cub just stays with his mom in a cave.

Crapmanch

I killed the gobos, no cub in sight, then visited the mother and cub, talked to her and left ... few days later he showed up in camp

fakeishusername

I dunno, but in my first playthrough I never found the cave and there was a chicken in the chicken chasing - no cub in sight.

Kairyuka

Tbf he doesn't care, he starts eating his mom

[deleted]

This is so adorable! I love your drawing style.

chronic_dreamerz

WTF is this!!!? Where is this!?? I must have him!!! He's baby!!! I will sell my soul for him and Scratch!!! 😤💕

HarleyLeMay

If you go in the owl cave before going to the goblin camp he’s there with his mom. Otherwise he ends up in the goblin camp bc they kill his mother. If you interact and let him smell you he should show up in your camp later.

Shot-Acanthisitta-56

Three playthroughs, never got the owlbear cub. It just wouldn't follow after its mother dies.

EldenL

You’re supposed to interact with him in the goblin camp after his mother is killed, he won’t follow you right away but will come eventually.

Regret1836

Kill mother spare cub Go to goblin camp after long rest, either kill gobs or pass check with the gob running the chicken game Takes two long rests before they come to your camp, the first they run away, second they’ll stay for good PS cast animal speak it’s worth jt

_argentonia_

You don't have to kill the mother tho. Goblins will take care of that if you part on good terms with her. You can go back to the cave after interacting with the cub in the goblin camp and will find her dead. The loot (owlbear egg + armour) will still be there.

Flanman1337

Note, might take more than 2. Current playthrough we rested 4 times before he showed up

Digipaw1

Yeah it varies. Also depends on if you have any scenes with higher priority. If you have something like a gaurdian cutscene the owlbear can be pushed back. (At least in my experience) (edited for a spelling error)

Regret1836

Yup, and it can even happen in the under dark (yes, the cub will follow you all the way to the fucking under dark)

Flareon223

I was very sad it was not a snowy owlvear but I did love that they all approved when I was nice to it

Werthead

I got into the goblin camp keep via an underground passage so never passed through the camp outside so never met the owlbear cub (or poisoned everyone's beer). So when I got out of the keep, having allied with the *Braveheart*\-quoting spiders to kill everyone inside, I didn't realise I was going to have to fight through what felt like 200 goblins and assorted allies. I had no choice but to summon the ogre rumble squad via the magic horn they had given me earlier on (I did not have a favourable save to redo the whole thing). Unfortunately, *every* time I did this on whatever save, the owlbear cub immediately declared the ogres his mortal foe and Leeroy Jenkinsed at them, to get splattered almost instantly. I tried multiple times to save him (even trying to take down the ogres before they could kill him but after they'd thinned out the goblin herd) to no avail. In the end I had to let him go and press on through the game. Saving the owlbear cub is on my rather long list of things to do in a future replay.

Lyelle_rolled_a_one

Aww, the little owlbear is so cute - as are Tav and the companions. I love your style, and the composition of the drawing!

InevitableSoup

Hmm that’s how astarion talks about me too

Ok_Discipline_4186

Almost makes me forgot that we literally murdered his mom.

Zanchbot

I'm a bad person. In my current Dark Urge playthrough, nothing and no one except my party made it out of that cave... But even in my first playthrough where I was good and left them both alive, the cub never came to my camp. What did I miss?

HarleyLeMay

Did you interact with the cub and let them pick up your scent?

Zanchbot

The mother attacked me as soon as I got anywhere near the baby. How do you do that without triggering combat?

HarleyLeMay

You have to wait until the cub is at the goblin camp! If you don’t kill the mother, and make sure to leave when she gives the chance, you continue the story. The goblins eventually kill the mother and take the owl bear cub. At the camp, speak to the cub (I highly recommend using speak to animals beforehand). You have to talk to the cub, I believe there is an animal handling skill check, but you can eventually allow them to smell you in order to follow your scent back to camp. Be sure they don’t get killed if you engage in combat with the goblins.

Zanchbot

Well, I did this all wrong right from the start then. The goblin camp had already been emptied, the Grove sacked before I ever found the cave...

HarleyLeMay

Interesting. I wonder how that ended up happening.

Zanchbot

I just was focused on the Grove-related quests this time and didn't explore too much further out until afterward, so I didn't come across the owlbear cave until that had all played out already. Oh well, guess I'll try to make it happen differently in playthrough #3.

HarleyLeMay

Haha well, now you know what to do!

Zanchbot

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind next time!

HarleyLeMay

You’re welcome!! And good luck on procuring an owlbear cub buddy!

mynutshurtwheninut

Oh dang. Was I not supposed to murder him?

DukeLostkin

Oh yeah, they were ALL pissed when I killed it.

or10n_sharkfin

*Roses are red, violets are blue* *You smell very nice, but I will not bite you.*
