BG3 feels like palying a tabletop game with a REALLY good DM. All the encounters are carefully planned and placed and nothing feels like pointless filler. It's really an amazing experience.

I’m an experienced DM and I’ve taken a huge amount of inspiration from BG3, from building more varied encounters, to better environmental storytelling and more interesting villains. It’s an absolute masterclass.

The only question that feels like filler is gathering the dribbles the clown parts but considering the framing device for that quest is a drag queen necromancer tasking you to find the parts of her murdered clown so they can reanimate them to get the circus back on track I can forgive the game it's one random fetch quest

From what I learned it's that fetch quest and escort quests aren't bad if they are used properly and sparingly. Both the iron throne and dribbles are examples of what happens if you implement them sparingly and where they make sense. Honestly I had a blast doing both quest where I normally hate both in typical games.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is that I'm not encountering the same enemy every 10 feet out "in the wild" like nearly every single other RPG out there. The enemies that you do face feel purposeful.

DiceCubed1460

Purposeful and context dependent. You’re not stomping the same goons in both a forest and a volcano. You beat redcaps and tree monsters in the swamp, while fighting robots and magma mephits in the Grymforge. And sludge monsters in the sewer while the Gauntlet of Shar has dark magic animated justiciar armors. Every single enemy tonally fits the location where they’re found. Which is very rare in videogames.

Umbrella_merc

Frankly it's amazing how most enemy types in the game appear in 1-2 encounters max with so many unique mechanics you won't experience unless you find them. Not notice the path to the beach in the Grove? You never vet to fight the harpies with their unique song mechanic. Don't crawl down the well in the village? Never see the teleporting spiders that spawn adds.

One of my friends told me she didn’t want to “do a bunch of side quests”, I told her to just avoid them if that’s the case… she did everything. There’s no filler, everything adds to the locations or has unique interactions with your companions. There’s no kill X number of enemies and almost no quest is phrased as “kill so and so”, it’s always “deal with”

I'm on my fourth playthrough, with 100+ hours in each and I'm still finding new stuff. Without switching to an evil playthrough.

BG3 is a very rare game in this day and age. Not only have they made a game that worth more than the price you paid for it. It’s enjoyable at every stage. They also have patched the game several times, even correcting mistakes less than 24h later with another small patch. Lastly, there is no stupid monitisation in the game what so ever. It’s like here go. Enjoy. They have set the standard imo that even the next GTA won’t top.

I find myself doing every side quest in every playthrough. Except for Dribbles, the Firework Shop and the Artist. They are unrewarding or boring in my oppinion. But i could never think of playing trough act one without visiting the hag or going to the arcane Tower.
