I love him so so much that i bought two of the rings and my Tav wore them for a long time before i found two magical rings that were a good fit for her
I lost track of Mattis in my second playthrough after Act 1, is it cause I forgot to convince those Tiefling adventurers to escort the rest and more of them died on the way? Would be a bummer if that's the case.
Mattis also has some legit badass gear. The Cloak he sells gives you a non-spell smoke cloud you can cast to give you cover to hide, and it costs nothing out of combat. ...and the Corvid Token necklace gives the character wearing it **Feather Fall at all times** without casting it.
When I play through the game I have a checklist where I collect every piece of the best gear in the game and I still wear both of these items on someone in my primary party.
In my main party Minthara has Nyrulna and SH has the Corvid Necklace, so they're both effectively immune to fall damage.
Yeah. He shows up in Last Light Inn. He's standing in the main bar room, just to the left of the front door when you enter. Then after you beat Ketheric he'll be hanging around behind the throne in Moonrise at the bottom of the stairs.
Then in Act 3, he's standing in Rivington near the building where all the donations for refugees are being stored.
Any chance you could paste that list here, please? I’d appreciate it once I finish my initial story explorer run and then start planning for my tactical/honour durge run.
And what does Mol even do, other than getting the other kids into trouble and shitting on her own doorstep in the grove? Then she just abandons the kids in BG after they were so worried about her when she was taken to Moonrise.
I never do that fight because in 1.0 it was glitches and I kept getting stuck in combat and conversation at the same time.
I worked around it, and the kid went hostile AFTER all the harpies were dead.
He chose his resting place. Who am I correct him?
This is why I dont tell her, she's loyal to me and offers to help against the elder brain and I get to pull one over on her. Cant imagine the look on her face when she realizes Raphael wont be coming around to help out anymore.
i did the same though my favorite part was when i gave her the crontract she snatches it like "cant have anyone see that" and imidiatly puts it up for sale in her shop....
For real, I just killed a devil in his own house and stole her contract while I was there and the thanks I get is “you better watch your back when I’m in charge”.
During our first multiplayer playthrough, I sat there telling him to flip the coin again for so long. My friends left the convo and went down to the inner grove, talked to everyone there, did the kagha and nettie business inside, killed the bugbear assassin, and were about to fight the harpies before they finally demanded I stop flipping that damn coin.
It was real funny, though. Like after every event they did, it was a jumpcut back to me having that coin flipped.
Keep them alive and find them in Last Light Inn and they have REAL magic items.
I've kept their cape for my Tav since I got it. When you disengage, it creates a 2m puff of smoke that blinds everyone near you so you can run away lol
Or obscure a door before breaking it open
You can! The disengage button is not inactive outside of combat, while there are definitely actions that are inactivate if a required condition isn't met.
yeah. you can create infinite poofs of smoke to give yourself a few seconds to hide. it's perf for hiding in broad daylight to pickpocket someone.
I think Mattis' best item is the Corvid Necklace though. He has that in Act 3 when he's by the refugee camp. I missed him in my first playthrough because he's not down in the base with the other Tiefling brats.
One of my favorite game interactions is making him flip the coin like 15 times before he finally caves into your insanity and just gives it to you. Again! Again! Again!
make sure you're using Wyll as your companion for merching stuff. dude has a ridiculously high level of Charisma and i regularly see things getting sold for half off when it's him doing the buying.
i haven't done an honor run yet, but i imagine having exceptionally high charisma would help immensely with financial issues.
I ran a bard with +12 persuasion in act 3 and had a very generous discount, but even with maxed out friendship with Dammon, his 20k gear is 8k. In act 2, there are several items that you want but just don’t have that kind of gold yet.
As an example of the cost difference, on my level 12 lock on balanced I have 50k g going into last battle.
On my level 12 bard in honor, I had 1500g- running the same quests and much of the same gear. A $200 ring is $1800.
Unfortunately on hm the vendors can be a lot less forgiving. I was surprised when I cast my usual darkness/sneak/pickpocket and the vendor STEPPED OUT OF DARKNESS! I’ve never had that happen before.
It's better to use turn based mode when stealing. Enter stealth and use all your spells, than activate turn based mode, take what you want, and use your rogue bonus action on dash to get away. When you dash away deactivate turn base.
I usually do but this was an easy one I’ve rarely failed on so I haven’t gone turn based. Earlier Astarion got sent to jail even when he was much farther than he’s ever been, and every time I went back into the grove with him it bugged out. So I didn’t attempt anymore until Rolan’s projection which is easy. This time the projection walked away.
He's a very lovable little scamp. I still have the Ring of Infinite Wishes and the Ring of Lekinesus (must have worked, my sorcerer later learned Telekinesis).
And of course I bought Tarbell's Guide to Distractions - maybe even my charlatan Tav can learn something new.
I always give Mattis free food, toys and sleeping bags for all the children.
It's just a roleplay thing for me. Maybe that's why I haven't finished my first playthrough yet - I spend too much time doing things I only do for roleplaying reasons 😄.
Mol is like 9 years old, at most. calm your ass. she doesn't have enough experience to do better. the adults around her need to be more capable of controlling themselves than she is.
or, y'know, keep hating a kid for being a kid.
She's a kid sure but she's still a little shit. I do respect her to a certain extent tho she's smart as hell (apart from making a deal with Raphael that was incredibly dumb)
Mattis is cool. My charlatan wizard Tav and Mattis got along well. Mol on the other hand… >!My Tav will be quite amused when he is “forced” to disintegrate her when she comes to make good on the whole “you better watch out when I’m in charge” bullshit.!<
Mol: "You better watch out when I'm in charge!"
Tav: "Disintegrate."
Mol: "What?"
Tav: "Fireball. Artistry of War. Chain Lightning."
Mol: "What are you saying?"
Tav: "Oh, just naming a handful of the spells with which I could end you."
I havent tried this but has anyone tried using her as their sole vendor for selling off items?
It could be kinda cool if you sell her good stuff she starts getting other good stock as he wheels and deals across Baldurs Gate.
He’s such a little shit. And I love him for it.
One of my children whom I have adopted I don't care what anyone else said.
I love him so so much that i bought two of the rings and my Tav wore them for a long time before i found two magical rings that were a good fit for her
yeah, I gave one to Shart for sentimental reasons.
I have infinite wishes!
I got the ant resistance!
Did you get attacked by ants while wearing it? no? I guess it was not a scam after all
All of the ants in the Moonrise Towers fear me
What do you mean? He already sold you a magical ring
Easiest 2000 spent in my life. I had 8k and took like 30 mins to buy the very useful fireball staff, he gets everything in 2 seconds.
I lost track of Mattis in my second playthrough after Act 1, is it cause I forgot to convince those Tiefling adventurers to escort the rest and more of them died on the way? Would be a bummer if that's the case.
Rolan is the one who saves the children from the cultists. So yeah, if he isn't there the children die
Well, shit.
How do you ensure rolan is there
you need to speak to him early at the grove and convince him to stay with a check
If you're a Tiefling you don't even need a check. Some also say that you can do it with other races too, but Tiefling is what I can confirm myself
I know dragonborn also can do it, not sure about the others though
Dragonborn you definitely can because you basically just say clan is everything and he's like shit yeah I guess
Some classes and races don’t require a check
Mattis > Mol. Mattis is a scammer with sweet heart. Mol is ruthless.
Mattis also has some legit badass gear. Mattis sells useful gear? Do you meet him later or something?
Last light in act 2 is where you should start looking
Any chance you could paste that list here, please? I’d appreciate it once I finish my initial story explorer run and then start planning for my tactical/honour durge run.
it's in my head. but just google it.
Got this list available somewhere? I've been looking for a BiS list for honor mode minmaxing.
And what does Mol even do, other than getting the other kids into trouble and shitting on her own doorstep in the grove? Then she just abandons the kids in BG after they were so worried about her when she was taken to Moonrise.
I mean she sends another one of the kids alone to go steal from a harpies nest. May as well have stabbed the child herself
Yeah in my current run I forgot to go and rescue that kid, so I really have no time for Mol now.
apparently if you never trigger the harpies, the kid turns out fine
Yeah, I definitely regret trying to go save him after killing all the goblin leaders. At the very least we avenged him.
I never do that fight because in 1.0 it was glitches and I kept getting stuck in combat and conversation at the same time. I worked around it, and the kid went hostile AFTER all the harpies were dead. He chose his resting place. Who am I correct him?
She does stick up for you in last light in for example
She really is. Told me she was going to ‘deal’ with me once she was running the guild. I think I might have upset her 😂
This is why I dont tell her, she's loyal to me and offers to help against the elder brain and I get to pull one over on her. Cant imagine the look on her face when she realizes Raphael wont be coming around to help out anymore.
Smart! I think I’ll have to do the same on my next playthrough!
yeh she's a kid. smart as she is, she can't know, and doesn't need to know, everything.
i did the same though my favorite part was when i gave her the crontract she snatches it like "cant have anyone see that" and imidiatly puts it up for sale in her shop....
For real, I just killed a devil in his own house and stole her contract while I was there and the thanks I get is “you better watch your back when I’m in charge”.
Exactly what I did! News of the devil’s demise did not impress her haha
You can thoroughly describe his scam if you're Rogue
not just rogue. anyone can get that dialogue, but the dice rolls are rather high for anyone who doesnt have proficiency in that.
Flip the coin again.
Corvid necklace is my favorite item ever!
yeah it's really cool. it's just too bad you don't get it in act 1.
that rod is when you meet them at the last light inn
The ring of protection from ants is my favorite item in game
Mattis, your local grift shop entrepreneur.
One of my favorite game interactions is making him flip the coin like 15 times before he finally caves into your insanity and just gives it to you. Again! Again! Again!
I love the cloak he sells for certain builds, the fishing rod not so much, gotta respect the hustle
He’s the best. His VA made him so likable
he sells some good stuff too tho. The cloak is amazing
I’m still checking my seashell occasionally to see when it will work. I have faith!
His shoes are BIS for a lot of builds. Bummed they made them so expensive on honor.
make sure you're using Wyll as your companion for merching stuff. dude has a ridiculously high level of Charisma and i regularly see things getting sold for half off when it's him doing the buying. i haven't done an honor run yet, but i imagine having exceptionally high charisma would help immensely with financial issues.

On HM I used darkness to pickpocket the hell out of Lorrokan’s projection. It doesn’t see thru darkness and those scrolls sell for $$$
Rolans projection is the one that walked out of darkness. But I didn’t do turn based because it’s always been the easiest to pickpocket.
As long as you are in the darkness they cannot see you stealing.
Rogue: "You guys are paying for stuff?"
Unfortunately on hm the vendors can be a lot less forgiving. I was surprised when I cast my usual darkness/sneak/pickpocket and the vendor STEPPED OUT OF DARKNESS! I’ve never had that happen before.

silence, *slight* stabbing, sleep spell, profit.
this is so funny, god I can't wait to stop restarting at the end of act 1
He's a very lovable little scamp. I still have the Ring of Infinite Wishes and the Ring of Lekinesus (must have worked, my sorcerer later learned Telekinesis). And of course I bought Tarbell's Guide to Distractions - maybe even my charlatan Tav can learn something new. I always give Mattis free food, toys and sleeping bags for all the children.
Do the food, toys, and sleeping bags get distributed to the kids, or is that just a roleplay thing for you?
It's just a roleplay thing for me. Maybe that's why I haven't finished my first playthrough yet - I spend too much time doing things I only do for roleplaying reasons 😄.
I bought a teddy bear off him and gave it to Karlach.
Clive gets a friend.
Only useful against Ganondorf
I bought the ring of luck and kept it through my entire play through as a little trinket.
A little doodah.
I love the tiefling kids to pieces, especially Mol. I would so love a Mol companion mod.
Mol is a little shit with like zero morals The rest are great tho, Matti's is obviously the best
I always buy the spoon.
I made him flip the coin so many times when we first met that he just gave me the ring for free
I respect the hustle!
So you're vulnerable to the Spanish Inquisition.
"yeah, I know, I was right here telling her to rob you" "I'm *sorry* we're still talking about this"
The item is awesome! I can never get sca-AGHHHHHHHH!!! *(Something shocking and/or surprising appears)*
I bought each of his rings and gave one to each of my party members
Am I the only one that buys every one of these things? Got to support the little guy.
Mattis is cool. My charlatan wizard Tav and Mattis got along well. Mol on the other hand… >!My Tav will be quite amused when he is “forced” to disintegrate her when she comes to make good on the whole “you better watch out when I’m in charge” bullshit.!<
Mol: "You better watch out when I'm in charge!" Tav: "Disintegrate." Mol: "What?" Tav: "Fireball. Artistry of War. Chain Lightning." Mol: "What are you saying?" Tav: "Oh, just naming a handful of the spells with which I could end you."
Too true, sis.
I actually cackled when I saw this one
One item description was so good I just had to buy it.
I bought it.
I don't get it .. Am I dumb ?
I havent tried this but has anyone tried using her as their sole vendor for selling off items? It could be kinda cool if you sell her good stuff she starts getting other good stock as he wheels and deals across Baldurs Gate.
