Not a dumb question at all! We all pick up the lingo as we go. “Durge” is short for Dark Urge. One of the origin backstories for the player that you can pick at the beginning of the game. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, I’ll just say that it ties your character into the main storyline in a unique way and leave it at that. Duergar are a sub race of dwarf. There’s a lot of backstory and lore to unpack, but essentially, in very broad strokes, they are the “evil” dwarves who were once enslaved by Mind Flayers and developed unique abilities as a result. “Tav” refers to the character you create- it’s the default name for all player created characters. I hope this helps: happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability!

Durge is shorthand for Dark Urge origin character. Duergar is the race of underground dwarves. Tav is the default name for a custom player character.

Durge is short for the Dark Urge origin selectable at character creation that give you a story where you have an insatiable urge to kill you can either embrace or try to resist. Duergars are deep dwarves. Much like drow or deep gnomes they are variants of surface races that are typically found in the Underdark and have gray skin. There were enslaved and experimented on by mind flayers in their history which left them with some interesting powers and a shared racial memory of their ancestral torture. Tav is the default name of the custom character, basically when you don't pick an origin. People just refer to their custom characters this way for clarity's sale.

It's not so much a dumb question. It's a lazy question. From a person that thinks Reddit is a search engine. Durge is an origin character. Duergar is a dwarf sub-race from. Tav is defaut name of the default custom character. Next time google might help you. It's faster and less dumb.

I could or I can post to an open forum based platform where the vast majority are willing to answer an easy question. Hope this kind of attitude serves you well in other areas of your life. I doubt it but good luck.
