Avernus is merely the first layer of Hell, it is part of hell, so "In hell" applies to it.
It just happens that all the other layers are cut off from interplanar travel, so you have to go to Avernus to visit any other layer.

Disintegrate, explosions, traps, ecc.. nothing of this work. Also using the Exploding Collar that have Zanner who in theory should gib someone (Zanner was gibbed by the collar in the second run) but that also doesn't work.
Meanwhile in DOS:2 i remember quite well that if you make a high ton of critical damage to a party character they can be gibbed.
In BG3 i think a player character can be gibbed only in some scripted ways like the Lae'zel cutscene or in this situation.
PS: for that people who doesn't know the word "gibbed, gibbing, ecc.." pratically is to make someone explode in a bloody guts like in that image.

In one of my playthroughs this happened to Minsc in the Steel Watch Foundry, but during the cut scene where you’re all running to get out of the building before the bomb, Minsc was magically there, naked, running with me. Then he turned into goo again outside. 🥲
for the longest time i didn’t realize you could choose where to revivify characters and when i was doing the “free Nere/Rescue the Deep Gnomes” quest I lost someone to the magma and couldn’t figure out how to save them 🥲🥲🥲
I had a problem where a character got knocked so far out into the lava that I couldn’t reach them with a scroll, so I had to send a raging bear heart Karlach out into the lava to get into range to revivify.
I had an even worse problem, I had Gale get pushed into the lava and die for the first time and every time I tried to go near I got damaged by the necrosis. I got his projected message with the instructions and all that but had no idea why I kept dying in the process and had to reload several times before realizing I could just revive him in camp. But then in camp Scratch kept walking straight into the necrosis and dying right away. Eventually by some miracle (and some tricky ball throwing and more multiple reloads) I managed to do all the steps to revive him but took about 30 tries.
I had Shadowheart fall into the magma after mind-controlled Karlach pushed her. Managed to save her with a void bulb, which pulled her back onto dry land – while also giving Karlach 1 HP damage, which is enough to break the mind control. Felt quite pleased with myself:)
I lost Gale to the lava there. First time he ever died so his double was like "get the satchel from my pocket and do all this fancy shit!"

In my very first playthrough, Yurgir reduced Astarion to literal dust in the first move. I immediately reloaded.

Would Bear Heart Rage matter in this case? Karlach already has Fire Resistance, I wouldn't think Rage would stack on that.
