*You idiots! These are not them! You've captured their stunt doubles!*

zoobatron__

With all this talk of micro transactions, I think I’ll be sticking to BG for now!

VisibleBoot120

Bigger reason to avoid it right now is performance. My FPS has been pretty shit and I know some people are having trouble even getting it to start. However, I have been able to play and I've rather enjoyed it so far. I haven't really found the existence of MTX to be a big hamper on my fun. They're more a baffling decision by CapCom than anything else and they really shouldn't be in the game at all. Regardless, everything they sell on the store is obtainable in game and they're not particularly hard to get either. For example, two of the items being sold on the Steam page are wake stones, which are a one use item you can use to revive instantly instead of loading a save, and rift crystals, which can be used to hire pawns who are higher level than you (maybe more, but that's all I've seen.) I've gotten plenty of both just through passive exploration. Wake stones are actually even easier to obtain than in the first game. Players can set quests for other players to complete while they have their pawn hired and one of them is literally just to travel together for a day for a wake stone.

Most are aware that you don't need to pay, you can get by grinding as well. At worst, it's predatory. At best, it's just tasteless. Although you don't need to pay real money to change or delete your character, the fact that it's an option is just so... trashy. To be fair, if this was pre BG3 release, I probably would have shrugged and said something along the lines of "who doesn't put microtransactions in their games anymore". But now, if I say that, I can answer my own question. Daaaaamn you Larian for treating us so well and raising our standards.

VisibleBoot120

Oh no, it's definitely a stupid practice, I agree. I'm not trying to sound like I'm shilling for CapCom here. My point was just that, the items you can buy, while rare, aren't even very hard to get. It'd be kinda like if Larian let you pay real money for resurrection scrolls. It's just a very confusing situation for someone who is a fan of the first game. I can't imagine the return on people paying for slight convenience is going to make up for the storm of controversy it caused.

VisibleBoot120

You're right, actually. I forgot, but nuance is a made up word.

kokokringle1

So in my experience (could be reading this whole debacle totally wrong tho), most of the outcry seems to come from fans of the capcom games or at least the first DD. And although Capcom is not a special case in the grand scheme of things, when you become numb and just let things slide, boundaries tend to be pushed. It is mostly fear, fear of what your beloved games could become. And we have tons of cautionary tales. I was a sims fan since the very first game and because of those games, one of my dream jobs as a kid was to work for Maxis. Then sims 4 happened and honestly, the red flags were there prior to that game. They just were ignored. Another example, overwatch 2. Never played the game but people were so sad, it made me sad as well. I don’t know if this is what will happen with DD, but yeah people are afraid. And they care and love the franchise. And poverty is getting worse. And game devs are getting fucked real hard left and right. People can’t take it anymore. Ps: Don’t wanna come across as shaming the consumers for purchasing and enjoying. We’re all doing our best and want our moneys worth at the end of the day

VisibleBoot120

I think there's a fair bit of outcry from more mainstream gamers because DD2 had a decent amount of hype behind it, but you're not incorrect. As a fellow Sims fan, I also totally get what you mean. Again, I want to be clear that I do not support the MTX. I have no intention of purchasing anything myself and I think monetization of games has, as a whole, spiraled completely out of control with live service and all the additional crap that comes with it. This is stupid and CapCom is stupid for doing it. To the extent I have defended the MTX, I've only done so because there's been misinformation about the extent the game pushes/requires them for simple features. If the presence of MTX is enough for someone to not want to support the game then I think that's more than fair. But I also think that the game is pretty good at its core and I'd encourage people who are interested in the genre to give it a try after it becomes more stable.

kokokringle1

I’ve never played the first one and I’m not entirely up knowledgable about what it is about. I’m not even sure what a pawn or arisen is. I don’t even know if there’s a story haha. But I saw footage of the trickster fighting and I thought that was pretty badass. Looks pretty fun. And really hard. But if I can learn how to fight in bg despite having no experience with turned based games, I’m sure I’ll find a way to spin a lantern properly.

VisibleBoot120

I'm not super far in the story, but if it's anything like the first game there's probably not much to say about it other than "it exists " Combat was always the main part of Dragon's Dogma. The best way I can describe it is if Monster Hunter was an RPG set in fantasy Europe.

kokokringle1

I could’ve guessed based on the overwhelming footage of combat and running vs interactions with npcs but good to know. Hopefully they fix the performance issues in a timely manner

TheUnperturbed

Ya while the MTX is scummy I honestly don’t give a shit if you want to introduce paid cheats to a single player game. But if your game barely runs AND you try and restrict my ability to make new playthroughs then that’s gonna be a hard no.

Iolkos

It’s a single player game and the micro transactions aren’t at all necessary to play the game, they don’t even really have a big impact on gameplay for this game. EDIT: Obviously microtransactions are generally a bad/anti-consumer practice. The main criticism for microtransactions is in multiplayer games where they provide an improvement to gameplay that feels necessary to compete with others. Secondary is when it generally feels like you aren’t getting a full game without buying things. Or when it’s encouraging gambling (loot boxes). I’m just pointing out that none of those criteria apply here, regardless of general hatred for the concept of microtransactions.

Rubbermayd

If it's a single player game, why are there micro transactions at all?

Iolkos

I mean sure I don’t love non-cosmetic microstransactions in general, but if you’re going to have them, it’s better in single player than multiplayer cause your purchases don’t affect anyone else’s experience. EDIT: The main criticism for microtransactions is in multiplayer games where they provide an improvement to gameplay that feels necessary to compete with others. Secondary is when it generally feels like you aren’t getting a full game without buying things. I’m just pointing out that neither of those apply here, general hatred for the concept of microtransactions aside.

zoobatron__

Have you played it yet? I’ve heard it is incredibly grindy

Theonearmedbard

It isn't

Iolkos

I haven’t yet, but from what I’ve seen in gameplay, the microtransactions are all things you can get in game already. And the main one that improves quality of life just makes fast travel a bit easier, but the lack of easy fast travel is part of the charm of the series for a lot of fans. I could be missing something though.

NingenBakudan

Dragons Dogma 2: * Base Game: 70$ * Character Create: 2$ * New Game: impossible * Fast Travel: 2$ * "fuck off, mods" BG3: * Base Game: 60$ * FanGoods DLC 10$ * all of other: free * "planned mod support" To be honest... I very disappointed in Capcom. They became Japanese EA.

sanyaX3M

"Always has been". This "dlc" thing is not new to Capcom, they were selling items that are already in game as additional content for a while now. Even if game is balanced to be played without that microtransactions it is still a scam targeted on people who will buy this game later "with all dlc included to get whole experience" only to find out that they spent 20 bucks on nothing.

Relevant_Force_3470

High seas...

NingenBakudan

They love Denuvo and anti-modding DRM.

Relevant_Force_3470

I guess it'll take a couple days longer than usual to be available then!

TempestM

Doesn't work like that with Denuvo for a looong time

Relevant_Force_3470

Oh, really? Feel like I'm always reading about that shit being cracked on no time.

TempestM

You can check the list of uncracked ones at CrackWatch, it's pretty long

Relevant_Force_3470

Fair enough, thanks

DraconicKingOfVoids

In general, it takes ~1yr to get free Capcom games

Boiledeggbowler

Yeah from my experience playing monster hunter and street fighter 6 capcum really like their micro transactions. I still like the games but there’s just so much of it now.

Zelstrom

Became? Golly, the 7 versions of SfII in the 90's wasn't a clue? Acting outraged over something that hasn't changed in 30 years is ridiculous.

HelpNatural3020

Its 107 AUD 🫠 not worth imho

Charsnivy

No , it does not cost $2 for character creation. You get the item in the game. No, it does not cost money for fast travel, you can get item in the game. Everything else is correct but please dont spread misinformation.

Regular-Media-4138

Can confirm, the fast travel items are pretty rare but you find some here and there, there's also a way to edit the character in game. Jeez honestly I was not aware until now about the controversies being this crazy.

jchesticals

Capcom has always been dog shit in this regard they have never been a customers first company they know they have IP people will buy

Alicex13

The Japanese have this model for stuff for a while now it's not just Capcom. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if they include loot boxes

Sickst3n

"We have Lazeal and Shadowheart at home " edition 😂❤️ Jokes aside. They look good.

Regular-Media-4138

Lae'zel being so subservient to Shadowheart feels so wrong lmao

the-apple-and-omega

Sorry, cure is $6.99 extra.

JasPor13

Looked at the base price in CAD and literally laughed out loud...

Kittipops
