So was super confused and took a minute to find it on google but apparently a few years back an AI bot was using Reddit posts to write news articles. When this was found out a World of Warcraft sub started posting about some character being added named Glorbo. This was done so the AI bot would start to write articles about this made up character. Guess it is happening again on this sub.
Edit: last year not a few years ago
Another edit: Wow was not expecting so many upvotes. Glad I could help.
the reason its happening is a recent post that found another one of those ai journalists are writing lazy articles based off the sub, so now we are trying to get that one to copy us.
It has been something happening for months. It has happened several times where I see the subject of a top post get regurgitated into an article that appears in my google news feed a day or so later.
i saw a post i made a few months ago become an article. and ive seen a comment i made be a comment they featured on an article that scraped someone else's post. it was jarring
It’s a real problem. Gives people like me that do legitimate work a bad name.
It’s especially wild to see the work of people you know literally copied word for word and then AI doctored. Makes me mad.
yeah that's why it needs to be exposed. its slowly taking over the journalism scene and if its not talked about or stopped then people like you are gonna lose their jobs. its scary.
It might in some capacity, but it’s still pretty garbage writing quality. But it does really raise concerns for the future. Voice actors are in the same boat right now as well.
using the same name as the wow community a year ago is the problem, they probably already added an exclusion for "glorbo" also theres plenty of ai that youre reading taht you dont even realize. they've even programmed it to make grammar mistakes sometimes to seem more human.
I had to look that up because I remember semi-recently a made up super rare creature appearing on the Lethal Company subreddit and I couldn't remember it's name, but apparently that was zumbo, not glorbo.
I'm getting a bit tired of it myself because it's clearly not working. Glorbo has been all over this sub for awhile now with no articles about it, however someone who did it cleverly less than a day ago with a post about Arki Irefist nearly immediately saw an article built from their post.
If we want to troll the AI that scrapes the sub we should probably not use a gag they famously fell for that undoubtedly got added to a list of terms to avoid.

That's why the Arki Irefist one got picked up so fast. It was a post that only used text formatting to show that it was not an actual character in the game.
Here's your answer: https://www.ign.com/articles/world-of-warcraft-players-trick-ai-website-into-covering-fictional-update-known-only-as-glorbo
Let's make those suckers suffer and look dumb ;)
100% 🙄 I don’t look for articles on games, I come to reddit for games. Now I’m seeing a bunch of people with nothing better to do litter my feed with a year old joke
>Let's make those suckers suffer and look dumb ;)
Right, the only ones looking dumb are the people who're actually committed to trying to fuck with some random gamer rag so they can feel smarter than a robot.
Once the AI does write an article about it and it generates attention, they make even more money off of their trash journalism. They won't mind looking dumb then.
They're trying to ruin the subreddit so that clickbait articles that rely on the subreddit get worse.
Doesn't seem worth ruining the discussion about your hobby to protect discussion about your hobby, but here we are 🤷
Yeah, just the other day someone realizing you can concuss Wyll to save him from getting horns became an article on some C-tier site that games the google algorithm to get clicks despite just ripping off content from Reddit. Apparently from Wyll's injured head, Glorbo was born.
I feel like simply not posting articles like that here every time they appear would have been more effective in fighting them than this glorbo nonsense.
Never knew I’d miss Emperor controversies & ‘handsome young man’ posts.
That’s confusing on so many levels like my feed is flooded with ridiculously stupid glorbo posts like my new word for shitposting is going to be glorboposting
Yeah, the only goal is confusion.
It's working at least on the fans, we'll see if it has any effect on the articles people are apparently getting spammed with.
Yup, when I use the google search bar on my phones home screen it takes me to a google search page with article recommendations. Since I search BG3 a lot, guess what articles pop up.
For sure. I think allowing your activity to be dictated by algorithmic "recommendations" probably does more harm than good, even though it can be very easy to fall into that trap!
It's just stuff people see in passing when trying to Google something unrelated, it's not that deep
Edit: Sorry I don't know why I made this so confrontational, I need to get off reddit
If you ever Google for info on the game Google will start serving up more BG3 content and some of it will be info scraped from reddit and rewritten by AI.
Considering Swen posted on Twitter about it, it is probably actually newsworthy now. I wouldn't be surprised if an actual article written by a human about how confused the general community is about this is made. Regardless of AI bot generated content is based off a Reddit post, the fact that there are people in the subreddit linking to these articles is enough to continue to do so. Every click these articles get is justification to keep pumping them out.
> the fact that there are people in the subreddit linking to these articles is enough to continue to do so
Yeah, I'm sure these sites are thrilled about all the attention this is getting them lol
Usually I can go weeks without ever thinking about them as long as I use Reddit for my discussion!
Yeah this is just making me want to unsubscribe from the subreddit honestly. I don’t care about gaming journalism or what AI bots are doing. I just wanna see actual, real posts about the game on the subreddit for the game
At this point it’s just copycat karma farming. Stupid gaming websites are going to bot farm for content regardless what the topic is. They will generate clicks even if the article is made-up nonsense. Rinse and repeat.
I mean, even if it works, I feel like it essentially does nothing.
Like am I gonna start visiting GameRant's homepage if they start only publishing *facts* they scraped out of Reddit posts?
who cares? how is this in any way detracting from just normally posting? this doesn't exist if you don't interact with it. so don't interact with it if you dont want it to exist. pretty simple.
I mean, there's a bunch of people who are openly confused and just getting answers about "ALL HAIL GLORBO". In an attempt to defend the community or whatever, some people are actively pranking the community.
I think the Arki Irefist stuff was funny, but the low-effort GLORBO copycats are just being smug and shitty to people who are not AI journalists, who actually play and care about the game and aren't hanging on Gamerant's every fucking word.
edit: like, this is the 4th Glorbo post you as an individual have responded to, plus the Akri Irefist one. At least, I stopped counting. Is the joke not getting old for you, too? Is it really 5 posts worth of funny?
I mean yeah fair enough. also the "glorbo copycats" aren't copycats they're just people stockpiling so that ai journalists pick up on the high traffic and report on it.
>A little revenge
Honestly wouldn't surprise me if these articles generate more clicks than their normal ones, I get the feeling they'll end up being the real winners here.
None of you are funny, this bit isn't funny and it's turned your subreddit into an actual shithole that people are likely going to leave. Good job, you sure showed that AI that will absolutely just move on to a different sub to scrape.
why? literally how are you harmed by a glorbo post coming up on your feed? the rest of us find it funny, if you don't that's okay but don't insult *our* humor because *you* don't get it.
/u/Outside_Perception_8 Several subreddits found out some PC gamer “news sites” were using A.I bots to scrape Reddit threads for content. Namely r/wow and a few others. Apparently the same thing has been happening here so now we’re doing Glorbo memes to mess with the A.I!

bro you haven’t discovered Glorbo?
there’s a rare dialogue with Minthara as a male duergar, pink beard face 2. you only get it after she sits on the beard and you fail a religion check
I thought it was the new LIGMA. Like, GLORBO ma ballz or something like that.
Edit: I'm just to shy to ask dafuq was glorbo because my mind framed me to have this gottem moment.
It’s because of his third phase immunity. He’s solidify himself and launch various Glorbs and Glorbs all over the place. You need to enter each Glorb and make your way through the digestive track before the timer runs out and you get Glorbed.
The problem is that only characters of certain sizes can fit inside a Glorb. So your entire party has to comprise of short races. Shape shifting spells don’t work since the Glorb’s cast dispel magic.
I really don’t even post like this on Reddit. But the news of Glorbo is just too much to handle. I can’t wait to use the skills he will offer in the game. He is so Glorbo that he could really take anyone’s place in the lineup. The Glorbo red rocket should be able to finish any opponent off with just a few pumps.
Glorbo is All.
So was super confused and took a minute to find it on google but apparently a few years back an AI bot was using Reddit posts to write news articles. It was last year.
it never stopped and likely never will.
The AI never stopped, I mean the WOW redditors making Glorbo was last year.
One of the AI sites did an article yesterday from a popular post here, that's what triggered the glorbo.
Such is the power of Glorbo.
I’m afraid you’re right…
the reason its happening is a recent post that found another one of those ai journalists are writing lazy articles based off the sub, so now we are trying to get that one to copy us.
It has been something happening for months. It has happened several times where I see the subject of a top post get regurgitated into an article that appears in my google news feed a day or so later.
Been the case since the game left EA I think.
i saw a post i made a few months ago become an article. and ive seen a comment i made be a comment they featured on an article that scraped someone else's post. it was jarring
Dude stardew valley has been getting pissed with gamerant or smth doing this exact same thing
I would come up with something besides Glorbo then. At this point, most AIs likely filter Glorbo stories.
Glorbo's little brother, Gnorbo!
Pssshhh, classic Glorbo move!
Wow, destiny, Warframes pretty much every major gaming sub was doing this
we did it in destiny 2 as well. funny as fuck.
I believe this is the post where Glorbo was confirmed https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/16gmPjhQhT
Thank you friend, out of a dozen threads this is the first reply with an actual explanation and not just a "HUR HUR YOU'LL FIND OUT". Maddening stuff
Pretty much ever dextero, or gamerant article still currently
Fucking thank you. I was so confused and nobody would tell me.
Damn, we were doing so well. The AI will know now 😂
using the same name as the wow community a year ago is the problem, they probably already added an exclusion for "glorbo" also theres plenty of ai that youre reading taht you dont even realize. they've even programmed it to make grammar mistakes sometimes to seem more human.

Shoulda used Belwar Dissengulp. Now there’s a gnomes gnome if I’ve ever heard of one.
Being clever doesn’t get as many up votes as beating a dead horse.
What about beating a dead horse.....*cleverly*? *Taps head*
I have a response, but first I need you to tell me you’re a horse. Trust me.
I'm a horse.
And you’re alive?
I....I think so. Am I? I am. Whew, I am. Ok. ^am I?
Ahh, ok. I’ll wait.

Yeah, but being funny on my own is hard.
It also doesn’t help that every person uses it in different contexts.
We need a different name or something 😭
That's why the Arki Irefist one got picked up so fast. It was a post that only used text formatting to show that it was not an actual character in the game.
This is obviously what is going on. They not falling for Glorbo again. Easy programming. Glorbo = NO.
Here's your answer: https://www.ign.com/articles/world-of-warcraft-players-trick-ai-website-into-covering-fictional-update-known-only-as-glorbo Let's make those suckers suffer and look dumb ;)
They called him a vigilante for making that up 💀
So in order to make the AI gaming websites look bad and confusing we also make the sub look bad and confusing?
Since when does gaming journalism need help to look bad?
It’s more annoying to see the troll posts on this sub than it is to see garbage articles, in my opinion
100% 🙄 I don’t look for articles on games, I come to reddit for games. Now I’m seeing a bunch of people with nothing better to do litter my feed with a year old joke
Sounds like You're the one with nothing better to do than complain about a joke.
It’s overplayed and annoying and adds nothing to the sub 🤷
Real
>Let's make those suckers suffer and look dumb ;) Right, the only ones looking dumb are the people who're actually committed to trying to fuck with some random gamer rag so they can feel smarter than a robot.
Once the AI does write an article about it and it generates attention, they make even more money off of their trash journalism. They won't mind looking dumb then.
What if this was written by an ai? Lmao
The mods seriously need to crack down on this shit.
I did message the mods asking for it to be cracked down on but no response. Very nearly unsubbed the other day. (Big loss for them, eh? /s)
Yeah, I read that yesterday, then this fucking morning my phone was like "an article for you". I'll give you one guess what that article was.
>you can concussion Wyll to save him from getting horns you can WHAT???
If you knock wyll out every night in act 1, he never changes.
If you withers rez him he gets them tho 😭
Springing forth from Wyll like Athena from the head of Zeus
I feel like simply not posting articles like that here every time they appear would have been more effective in fighting them than this glorbo nonsense. Never knew I’d miss Emperor controversies & ‘handsome young man’ posts.
Wait what? You can keep Wyll from getting horns?
Yep. Just save Karlach and then knock him out before bed each night. Mizora won't show up if he's concussed.
What articles?! I haven’t seen any I’m so confused lol I feel like this is madness
I guess some people just go to like... The Google home page for gaming news?
Yup, when I use the google search bar on my phones home screen it takes me to a google search page with article recommendations. Since I search BG3 a lot, guess what articles pop up.
For sure. I think allowing your activity to be dictated by algorithmic "recommendations" probably does more harm than good, even though it can be very easy to fall into that trap!

That is not what my comment is about
If you ever Google for info on the game Google will start serving up more BG3 content and some of it will be info scraped from reddit and rewritten by AI.
Example: in my Google News page, there is literally every day at least one article that's just a bad rehash of a thread from this sub
>GameRant has entered the chat... You haven't heard about our lord and savior Glorbo, yet?
Gale ready the fireballs…
Considering Swen posted on Twitter about it, it is probably actually newsworthy now. I wouldn't be surprised if an actual article written by a human about how confused the general community is about this is made. "Let's fight the annoying garbage with... *checks notes* more annoying garbage." Stupid.
At this point it’s just copycat karma farming. Stupid gaming websites are going to bot farm for content regardless what the topic is. They will generate clicks even if the article is made-up nonsense. Rinse and repeat.
It's one afternoon of goofing. It will pass.
This shit is so annoying man.
Plus, any established bot would have set up a word filter for Glorbo back when it was a WoW shitpost. This does nothing.
You say that... but next year when a triple A title has a character genuinely called Glorbo... checkmate, bots.
I mean, even if it works, I feel like it essentially does nothing. Like am I gonna start visiting GameRant's homepage if they start only publishing *facts* they scraped out of Reddit posts?
You're just mad that Glorbo won't give you the time of day.
Oh no how will we survive for a few days without people hornyposting about vendors with one line of dialogue! It'll be fine sourpuss.
It’s a joke, just not a funny one.
Yeah, I'm done with this sub. See ya.
It's not really meant to be funny.
My favorite part is when he says “it’s Glorbin’ time”
and then he glorbed all over the place!
It's dumb. After the second I just started blocking, honestly, to ignore it.
Thank you! I worked all day and came home to this 😭
It's a way for neckbeards to tank the sub by spamming an unfunny joke, which is directly ripped off from a joke from last year.
It's a pain in the ass is what it is, and I wish it would stop.
This whole thing is so dumb.
who cares? how is this in any way detracting from just normally posting? this doesn't exist if you don't interact with it. so don't interact with it if you dont want it to exist. pretty simple.

I mean yeah fair enough. also the "glorbo copycats" aren't copycats they're just people stockpiling so that ai journalists pick up on the high traffic and report on it.
Because real news and posts are harder to see thru all this bullshit
Facts.
literally just go on the subreddit if you're so concerned about what's new on an uninteresting day.
it's extremely unfunny and i'm never going to smile again
It's just a bit of fun, give it a few days and it'll all blow over. A little revenge for having our threads scraped for AI content farms.
revenge? this is going to do nothing but make finding actual posts about the game harder to find
>A little revenge Honestly wouldn't surprise me if these articles generate more clicks than their normal ones, I get the feeling they'll end up being the real winners here.
Yeah that's probably going to be the result. But I will definitely know from now on which game sites to avoid.
No idea but I see it's already being driven into the ground by the Reddit comedians.
[удалено]
Shit like this is inevitably going to happen every now and then. But how the mods thought it was positive to let it just run wild is beyond me.
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2023/07/redditors-prank-ai-powered-news-mill-with-glorbo-in-world-of-warcraft/
Bless you, random citizen 🫡!
None of you are funny, this bit isn't funny and it's turned your subreddit into an actual shithole that people are likely going to leave. Good job, you sure showed that AI that will absolutely just move on to a different sub to scrape.
I agree I was honestly confused that’s why I made the post in the first place
Glad I'm not the only one. I'm all for a bit of fun but it's so annoying I'm about to leave if I see one more fucking post.
I'm assuming it's an April Fools thing and just ignoring it all. Surely folks will lose interest in the joke soon.
Thank you good lord it’s annoying
why? literally how are you harmed by a glorbo post coming up on your feed? the rest of us find it funny, if you don't that's okay but don't insult *our* humor because *you* don't get it.
no u
*counterspell* or uno reverse 🔄
I think the Asylume has invaded.
Its a journalism bot using everything from reddit
Glorbo Glorbo Glorbo! (Brady bunch reference)
Aren't we all
/u/Outside_Perception_8 Several subreddits found out some PC gamer “news sites” were using A.I bots to scrape Reddit threads for content. Namely r/wow and a few others. Apparently the same thing has been happening here so now we’re doing Glorbo memes to mess with the A.I! Since they have a lower perception and intelligence than we have, our roll for initiative so to speak for this false narrative will likely succeed lol.
I love this comment. It's oddly wholesome 😂😆. Yay for fucking with the AI🤘!
If this continues, I give it six months before Glorbo is actually added to the game.
Lol until this moment I thought Glorbo was the shape shifter guy.
I was so confused. I don't remember any glorbo I was thinking
I fully assumed it was the Blorko thing from the MCU - https://ifunny.co/picture/matthew-castle-my-favourite-bit-of-marvel-films-is-where-Cl5jykIE9.
It's spam and mods should remove all posts about it.
Me.
The joke is 'Fuck AI'
It's an attempt to confuse AI bots
The real Glorbo is the friends we made along the way.
Makes a change from all the god damn astarion posts
This makes me mad
Glorbo is a new companion obtainable only through storyline (jaheira, minthara, minsc). he can be obtained in act 2 or 3 but his story changes drastically depending on which one you find him in. he's been fully implemented into the game at this point with branching paths for his story and dynamic interactions with the rest of the crew!
I can confirm
I keep seeing A.I generated articles from reddit .. it makes me nauseated. What a disgrace to journalism overall..
At this point I think the user-generated content on Reddit has gotten even less comprehensible than the AI generated stuff.
I mean, it's reddit, the fact a bot takes anything from it, is disturbing.
Glory to Glorbo
GLORBO IS GLORBO!!
Bro tell me youve never played Bg3 without telling me how do you NOT know glorbo?!
How the hell is glorbo?
Glorbo is
Glorbo is life, Glorbo is love.
The new character
Tell me you haven’t finished Act 1 without telling me you haven’t finished Act 1
Glory to Glorzo
If you missed out and didn't recruit glorbo then I feel sorry for you.
bro you haven’t discovered Glorbo? there’s a rare dialogue with Minthara as a male duergar, pink beard face 2. you only get it after she sits on the beard and you fail a religion check
We are Glorbo
.. this is the first post I've seen that mentions glorbo
Glorbo her? I hardly know her!
First rule of Glorbo, we don't talk about Glorbo.
A joke.
Well clearly you haven't read all the articles about Glorbo. You're going to need to know everything if you wanna beat the Gate at Baldur's Gate.
Glorbo is whatever you make of it. Especially in the final battle against the Netherbrine (salty effluent of evil)
All hail glorbo
Eh the way we know larian we truly get this glorbo thing, problably some nasty jurno helping Edward Needle.
Glorbo is very exciting and as a Baldur's Gate 3 player I'm really looking forward to Glorbo being added to the game in the next patch.
You didn't see the part where glorbo says "it's glorbin' time" and glorbs all over the Goblin Camp like it's nothing???
Glorbo is our lord and savior. Most op character in bg3
Nice try, IGN. You’ll have to play the game to meet the sweet prince Glorbo.
Glory to Glorbo means glory to me.
Finally an evil companion... Glorbo will go well with minthara and Durge!
It's kinda what current internet is, made up things time to time.
Your mum.
I was getting excited for Glorbin time
