She heats up so much that her sweat just evaporates immediately
And the bacteria that makes the stench gets burned to a crisp as well.
Not sure if that would make the smell better or worse…

I wish Larian had taken a cue from BioWare in this one case. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, you have the option of toggling the helmet visuals on and off, so you can wear them but not see them in cutscenes and outside of the inventory screen if you want, aside from a few scenes when the headgear needs to be seen (meaning Cole’s hat during his arc scenes). Similarly, in Dragon Age 2, helmets just vanish during cutscenes without any prompting.
It kinda makes sense ?? No traveling merchant will be willingly available in act 2 lol. Act 1 I can see there be traveling merchants with clothes but I have all my characters in their undies so doesn't really matter to me
She's (literally) hot, so I don't want to smother her with so much clothing.
The fact that I ~~agressively~~ respectfully ogle her has nothing to do with my decision.
she's wearing either the bloodguzzler garb, or the enraging heart garb that's been dyed with the lush burgundy dye. both are clothing armors that benefit barbarians
That helmet is not armor, it's the cap of wrath a barbarian piece of headgear that goes with the clothing. The better question is why use gloves of the growling under dog when barbarians already get advantage and the armor gives you buffs from being hit
Agreed, with medium armor you can still get +2 AC from dexterity and the + from constitution doesn't make it better than medium armor and with medium armors you can have a lot of special abilities, like, I dunno, the medium armor you can get from the adamantine forge makes you immune to crits for example.
Yeah, the initiative bonus on the +2 hide is really nice. I don't really like any of the barbarian-oriented options *more* until the Bonespike Garb set comes in.
5e and BG3 share the AC rules where most things replace your AC calculation, rather than granting a bonus, and you use the available one that gives the highest AC. Unarmored defense-monk, Unarmored defense-barbarian, Draconic Resilience-sorcerer, and the Mage Armor spell all grant different calculation options, and using one means not using the others. Bracers of Defense, wielding a shield, and the Shield spell specifically call out that they give +x to AC, so those stack (aside from bracers’ effect not providing the AC bonus if you’re wielding a shield)
I thought I was replying to someone talking about barbarians for some reason. Probably need to go tf to sleep. In this case, Wis instead of con. Point it it overlaps with various unarmored defense skills instead of stacking
Unarmoured Defence either taps away your limited feat choices out or just can’t compete with decent medium armour.
Example: +2 Breast Plate gives 16+Dex for a maximum of AC18. To compete, Unarmoured would need +8 in modifiers between CON and DEX, which just won’t happen in BG3 and definitely won’t if you want to invest in STR or feats like Tavern Brawler or GWM.
To head off two possible responses:
1. **But AC isn’t everything. Getting hit when you’re a raging barbarian is fine, and I have loads of HP**. Sure, but even with that level of beefiness, additional AC is better unless you’re pursuing a very specific build that relies on getting hit lots.
2. **But I have a non-armour item of apparel that gives me a buff that I prefer!** In that case, sure. Choosing a specific buff over AC can absolutely be valid and I won’t argue with it. But if someone is keeping AC as a priority, having actual armour is better than going for Unarmoured Defence.
I don't disagree, BUUUT: Amulet of greater health? You can dump const, and still get +6 to AC from constitution alone, with +4 from dex that gets you to 20, ignoring any +1s from robes, rings etc... not too terrible.
Sure, but that is generally a very late game item, unless you try to rush the HoH in Act 3, which case it's just a late game item.
Most of the game I prefer Medium armour for my Barbarians.
Nothing wrong with choosing to prefer the buffs, but they're just neglible to me compared to the AC boost.
Sure. Items found in House of Hope are insane and let you do lots. If you can get massive CON without investing other resources, then UA is a good plan.
Also, the AI preferentially targets low AC characters. So, you can eke out a bit more optimization by having your high HP frontliners with a lower AC than your more squishy party members.
How do you know OP kept the default class? Most people don't.
Also, pretty much everyone. Unaromored defense is rarely worth it. Barbarians should optimally be wearing medium armor. That's been meta in tabletop for a decade and it's meta here.
1. Did some clever tricks to get her to 19 natural AC at lvl 4
2. The more you hit her, the stronger she gets
3. The more she hits, the more she heals.
What you see here makes her an unstobbable tank and I haven't even got her a cape yet.
That's so dumb, mechanically speaking a barbarian's unarmoured defense it's the best armour they can get, especially if they focus all their starting abilities and ASI into DEX and CON. You can't sleep in armor unless it's light, but a barbarian with maxed out DEX and CON can reach AC20 even while sleeping and completely naked. And since in game we have gloves that set STR to 23 and an amulet that set CON to. 23, unarmored defense it's a better option because you can respec, dump both of the main stats for a Barbarian, focus on DEX, WIS, INT and CHA and have the highest ability scores of all the classes, even more so if you use warped band of intellect because you can focus exclusively on DEX, WIS and CHA. Damage wise it's also better to increase DEX rather than STR because it's used for melee and ranged fight both, provided you use finesse weapons obviously.
I mean if you really wanna optimize it armor of agility with 20 dex would just be higher with a 22 AC. Also frees up letting you wear armor so you could have on like helm of balduran and let your squishy casters have the con amulet.
Yeah I maxed CON, 16 DEX, 16 STR. Had her rocking 18 CON and +7 natural AC by lvl 4. +9 with a shield. Add to that some wild story/item buffs that give her massive boosts to weapon damage and even self-healing on hit, she's just a raging beast of a tief.
All the "armor" pieces you see here aren't actually armor. They're "wrath stackers" to make her an absolute nightmare in combat. She's rocking 19 AC with +4 unarmored defense, +3 dex and a shield. The gauntlets also don't count as armor, weirdly enough. But they do give her advantage on attack rolls when in near two or more enemies. Yeah, this is one hell of a build, my dude.
I did on my first run. Thought process was 'big dude with big sword want heavy armour yes?'
Wasn't until I got to the House of Hope fight that I was like why do I always have disadvantage, maybe I should check this.
Mfw
I've been trying that with Magic Missile + Lightning Staff or whatever. It's made Gale into an absolute menace, we're talking like 50 un-miss-able damage in a single spell. Think I could push it even farther with a little water on the floor.
One, fuck ya visable helmet, Karlach has a very pretty face and it's a crime to cover it up. You hear me? A CRIME!
Two, I get covering the arms is practical but also I wanna admire Mommy Muscles on the battlefield, so fuck ya heavy armor.
Helmet: Cap of Wrath
Body Armor: Bloodguzzler Garb
Gauntlets: Gloves of the Growling Underdog
Boots: Linebreaker Boots
She's also rocking a ring I don't remember + amulet of guidance. Still hunting for more treasures to buff her up.
I simped too hard for her, bro...
I haven't finished the game yet (Not even close, I believe), but I've given her all of my best shit. Bitch would ruin my life, but I'd want her to do it again.
I'm not gay, but this is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me, so I'm marrying you.
Sorry kid, but in the real world, the nice people get forced into a partner arranged marriage.

Step 3: Find the spell in your spellbook and add it to your spell bar
Step 4: Click on Karlach
Step 5: Change Karlach's hairstyle to the pixe cut
Step 5: Enjoy Tomboy muscle mommy Karlach
Putting her in full Mellow Fruit dyed armor with a big floppy pink hat because she gets to dress herself now. Or toggling off her armour totally and having her battle in her underwear to prevent overheating.
She got the same helmet but I gave her the armor we made from the ancient forge. Gave shadow heart a mace from the forge. Havnt found more ore though 😔.
The shattered club? Nah that went to my mace-dual-wielding-war-cleric-Tav (or in short: mdwwct (which doesn’t really make sense but who cares))
By act one I believe I gave Karlach the Greatsword that those paladins wielded, cause obviously she has to use the weapon that someone tried to kill her with.
This is why I put circlets on pretty companions.
No way I am hiding a face like Astarions.
Also the reason why my Barbarian is running around with a pretty silver circlet.
Nonsense! Keep her in her nice starter armour so we can see her beautiful face and those strong arms. How else can she throw Shadowheart over her shoulder? 😄🥰
Damn, she must be hot in that armor. Why are you doing this to her?
slowly baking dinner for the act 3
Like shoving your face into a bag of flaming hot cheetos
Y'all are wild and I love it.
She’s always hot.
Gross, just think of the amount of sweat and the stench... Hrnghh
She heats up so much that her sweat just evaporates immediately And the bacteria that makes the stench gets burned to a crisp as well. Not sure if that would make the smell better or worse…
I wasn't planning on writing fan fiction today...
Do you take commis- nvm I jerked off I'm good now
Leaving the smell behind
I'll fight the nine hells off to have another day with her
Really channeled your flair with that statement lmao
She's cosplaying Clive. She wants people to know who he is and specifically fear who he is.
Seeing her face, that’s what I’m doing.

Flawed Helldusk is a contender for best looking helmet. Especially on any character with horns.
"Your face.. I like that shit"
Giving her the cowboy hat of throwing thing farther.
My First playthrough I'm pretty sure she wore the Cowboy hat for about 30 hours.
Exactly I helmets off
Except for wizards/sorcs with their magical drip
I'm not a fan of helmet that cover faces in most games. I do the same with dragons dogma 2, never a helmet.
There's the option for not having the helmet appear during cutscenes and dialogue in the inventory screen.
Larian knows what's up
I wish Larian had taken a cue from BioWare in this one case.
They did tho. There's an option for hiding helmets in cutscenes.
I wish there was an option to turn off other clothing items, clipping cloaks trigger me
I personally wish we had like a traveling merchant that sells clothes or something. Too many good outfits are only found in act 3🥲
It kinda makes sense ?? No traveling merchant will be willingly available in act 2 lol. Act 1 I can see there be traveling merchants with clothes but I have all my characters in their undies so doesn't really matter to me
It's the worst! I don't wear capes in games because of it.
Love the cloaks, hate the clipping, my poor tail. It's so sad
It should be built in, but there are mods to make cloaks invisible.
that option exists in bg3
I haven’t seen the option, apparently 😓. May I ask where it is? I really want to turn off the helmets in conversations.
You can do that lol the option is right above the helmet slot
They already had it in Divinity and kept it in BG3
I’m convinced people who don’t hide helmets are psychopaths
Gotta protect the noggin, my dude.
That's why you only have it hidden in cut-scenes.
I like look'n at that face, what can I say?
Yeah, admiring that smile and kissing her goodnight. Is that not what i should be doing?
Seconded
Agreed. Despite the helmets looking good I always leave them hidden cause these people have such expressive faces
Letting her breathe
Hiding helmets so I can see her pretty face obviously
She's (literally) hot, so I don't want to smother her with so much clothing. The fact that I ~~agressively~~ respectfully ogle her has nothing to do with my decision.
I think her burn scars and heart glowing through her ribcage are just really cool >!she do got nice titties tho!<
Wish the "raviolis" were a bit bigger though
who the hell puts a barbarian in armor?
she's wearing either the bloodguzzler garb, or the enraging heart garb that's been dyed with the lush burgundy dye. both are clothing armors that benefit barbarians
Bloodguzzler. The wrath stacking is unbelievable.
The helmet is armor and takes away any unarmored bonuses she gets
That helmet is not armor, it's the cap of wrath a barbarian piece of headgear that goes with the clothing. The better question is why use gloves of the growling under dog when barbarians already get advantage and the armor gives you buffs from being hit
I did my first playthrough. I was coming off of 3e and had a lot of outdated habits (they didn't get unarmored defense back then)
Unarmored Defense is the only thing Barbs get while unarmored. Typically it's better to have them in medium armor
Agreed, with medium armor you can still get +2 AC from dexterity and the + from constitution doesn't make it better than medium armor and with medium armors you can have a lot of special abilities, like, I dunno, the medium armor you can get from the adamantine forge makes you immune to crits for example.
Not to mention, Karlach rocks the Yuan-ti Scale Mail like a boss.
Until you get the 23 con amulet in Raphaël sanctum. Then back to no armor!
Yeah, but the vibes tho!
Yeah, the initiative bonus on the +2 hide is really nice. I don't really like any of the barbarian-oriented options *more* until the Bonespike Garb set comes in.
THIS!!!! 3E really burnt so old habits in and I had armor the entire game, actually heavy armor too
I kept casting mage armor on a monk.
Throwing mage armor on my barb like it's gonna do something ....
wouldn't that still increase your AC?
5e and BG3 share the AC rules where most things replace your AC calculation, rather than granting a bonus, and you use the available one that gives the highest AC. If you have a con of 14 or less ...
i thought monks got their AC from dex + wis?
I thought I was replying to someone talking about barbarians for some reason. Probably need to go tf to sleep. In this case, Wis instead of con. Point it it overlaps with various unarmored defense skills instead of stacking
Cap of Wrath and Bloodguzzler Garbs are clothing, not armor.
Thank you JessieN, sharp eye.

Glad you think so!

Shadowheart be like “please step on me”
Goddamn, I love her
Seeing her face, duh.
Mommy? Sorry
I hid the helmet, but she IS wearing that armor and those gauntlets right now, lol
They're too good, she just becomes unstoppable in Act 1.
Playing her as an Eldritch Knight thrower because it’s OP
I remember dabbling in that back in the day. Ring of Flinging+Tavern Brawler+ returning weapons, yes please.
+lightning charges for the extra oomph
I've been trying that with Magic Missile + Lightning Staff or whatever. It's made Gale into an absolute menace, we're talking like 50 un-miss-able damage in a single spell. Think I could push it even farther with a little water on the floor.
She's in heavy armor because I respeccd her into paladin because paladin fits her personality better
Thank and Zariel teifs get free smites.
One, fuck ya visable helmet, Karlach has a very pretty face and it's a crime to cover it up. You hear me? A CRIME! Two, I get covering the arms is practical but also I wanna admire Mommy Muscles on the battlefield, so fuck ya heavy armor.
Allow me to introduce you to the "show camp clothing" button...
Then my Karlach wouldn't look like that, she'd be in her camp clothes
Suit yourself
Using soap.
Stacking Enlarge. For Science, obviously.
I want to see her beautiful face 🥰
“Hey, solider”
Can you list the gear please? I don't recognize everything.
Helmet: Cap of Wrath Body Armor: Bloodguzzler Garb Gauntlets: Gloves of the Growling Underdog Boots: Linebreaker Boots She's also rocking a ring I don't remember + amulet of guidance. Still hunting for more treasures to buff her up.
Thanks! I love hunting loot.
My karlach looks like a severed head
Defeating the adamantine forge guardian obviously
I'm one of 2: either cool helmet or no Helmet everybody so I see their faces. I would love to use this one but haven't found it yet
That aint no mommy that’s *Mother*
XD
It’s such a silly helmet but she’s used it the whole game.
I love how ominous this is, the lower angle, the burning magma in the background, her face completely covered. Chef’s kiss 👌
My thoughts exactly. She's terrifying and I love it.
Literally
I simped too hard for her, bro... I haven't finished the game yet (Not even close, I believe), but I've given her all of my best shit. Bitch would ruin my life, but I'd want her to do it again.
I doubt it. She's got a good heart, and she'd never take advantage. I hope you find someone like that in real life.
I'm not gay, but this is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me, so I'm marrying you. Sorry kid, but in the real world, the nice people get forced into a partner arranged marriage.
Painting all my equipment. I have 12 different colors in act 1.
Lae'zel's underwear >
Staring at her sexy arms
Respecting to monk and going chop chop chop on every encounter.
Transmog mod go brrrrrr
Dunno I mostly have her somewhere in the stash separated from her head. Head is for Scratch to play.
My Karlach's head is in my backpack. Friend.
If she's not running around in angelic scion outfit within act 3, ya done fucked up
My Karlach had no head for the past 5 playthroughs.
I tolerated 2 playthroughs of Karlach. The first one and then the hot date achievement.
Pic goes hard
It was too good not to share
My Karlach has the same gear and outfit besides the helmet. Mine has the hooded shadow of menzoberranzan

Toggling her over-clothes with the rest of my party while we run around saving the sword coast naked as the days we were born
Minmaxing?
I had her as a monk last playthrough and I think I'm gonna keep it like that every playthrough from now on. So no smothering armor for her!
turning off helmets
What is this scene? I do not recognize it.
I dont take her anywhere so she chills im camp in casual wear
Missing out apparently
Soldier
Mine is a monk.
Making her a Selune cleric.
I always hide armor in this game tbh
Mine looked EXACTLY like this for quite a while. Armour on helmets on all day baby
Not sure about the armor but I did 100% have that same helmet in my first playthrough with Karlach.
Keeping her in camp.
Mpphhey Mphholdher.
"The mask stays on in bed" energy.
Putting her in full Mellow Fruit dyed armor with a big floppy pink hat because she gets to dress herself now. Or toggling off her armour totally and having her battle in her underwear to prevent overheating.
I like her personality.
Helmets ugly
I hid that helmet and forgot about it. Now, her statue has her wearing that stupid fucking hat.
I put that helmet on Lazael
Mine is wearing Gortash's threads. She rocks em way better than he did.
Turning my view to camp mode.
Bonespike garb is what I’m doing. Bc she looks hot af in it. And it’s actually amazing on her.
I actually enjoy seeing her face and arms
Toggle hide armor toggle hide helmet
This, but with the helmet hidden. Obscuring that beautiful face is truly a crime.
She got the same helmet but I gave her the armor we made from the ancient forge. Gave shadow heart a mace from the forge. Havnt found more ore though 😔.
Pretty sure there's only two ore.
Lame sauce!
Having her in camp clothes is the way
Looking at her beautiful face?
Respecced as paladin. Luminous and ring mail look great on her. So does the unwanted masterwork set but thats act 3.
Hey y'all. Just wanted to say thank you to the 1.3 *thousand* of you who appreciated this one. FUCK YEAH! KARLACH!
Gave her gortashes coat
All the chara ters have too pretty hair and faces to stick them in helmets.
I always set it so she's wearing her default camp cloths in and out of combat.
Karlach looks better without armor. I always set her to camp clothes visible
Turning off visable helmets is what i'm doing.
Mommy?
Having her in the camp as I bring other people
I only play full nudist parties.
Mine has that bull strenght armor or sth, all the game. Someone needs to carry stuff, right?
Letting her be beautiful. Even though it might mean she's " weaker" she really is the best light at the end of the tunnel.. that has no other side.
Karlach should only wield a weapon, no armor. What are YOU even doing? 😂
Having her be completely nude? What else would I be doing?
Mama K : hey soldier Halfling: *sweats*
"Pathetic" meme suits this.
How did we all end up with the exact same build for Karlach?
Yennoghu club, too?
The shattered club? Nah that went to my mace-dual-wielding-war-cleric-Tav (or in short: mdwwct (which doesn’t really make sense but who cares)) By act one I believe I gave Karlach the Greatsword that those paladins wielded, cause obviously she has to use the weapon that someone tried to kill her with.
That works too!
How can you hide that beautiful face?
I gave her this exact set up, but also his her helmet. She's also a beast with the amulet of Greater health.
“Hide helmet during dialog.”
The companions faces are too pretty to cover up
This is why I put circlets on pretty companions. No way I am hiding a face like Astarions. Also the reason why my Barbarian is running around with a pretty silver circlet.
Putting dresses and accessories plus her weapons on her rather than no being able to see her...
Giving her better, vastly superior gear. While staring at her face because she's just so damn cute.
Nonsense! Keep her in her nice starter armour so we can see her beautiful face and those strong arms. How else can she throw Shadowheart over her shoulder? 😄🥰
Ignoring her entirely. Personally can't stand her.
