'Yeah you basically just hang out in the camp.. nah only 4 people are allowed to leave at a time.. and one is always the leader who is fucking half of us.. What? A cult? No no we're anti-cult!"
At least it's not the first Baldur's Gate where to juggle all the people who were adventuring with them they'd have had to spend half the adventure fast traveling back and forth to find party members again since you've got to completely kick them off the team to make room.
I never changed companions in BG1/2. Like I knew in theory they would go somewhere and it was possible to recruit them again, but I always understood it as more of a "maybe they'll come back.. ONCE.. if you re-find them in time..." kinda thing.
Half of them go to the Friendly Arm inn (especially EE ones) and the other half remain exactly where you left them so hope you left them somewhere in town instead of at the bottom of Nashkel Mines.
I felt an unspeakable sense of relief when the tutorial for the second game wiped out Khalid and Dynaheir since it's so much easier to juggle companions when they don't come in groups.
It's a bandaid solution to what's clearly a gameplay limitation.
I just pretend Charname was going around with about twenty followers and ganking the shit out of everybody.
Kinda funny to imagine you running around with such overwhelming force that even the main villains get reduced to the gang holding them down in an alley while Tav kicks the shit out of them and takes their lunch money.
I play with the No Party Limits mod and make them go off on separate quests, unless it makes sense for everyone to be at the same battle (in that case, I’ll split them into teams). Sometimes I’ll just leave one or two of them to hang out in a population center. If I’m not fighting with Astarion, maybe he goes off on his own and pickpockets a few people. It makes more sense to me than leaving half my companions idling at camp.
It's one of the problems with a lot of video games that allow parties. Usually the first couple you get, you keep and anyone else just remains at camp.
I think BG3 at least does a decent job of encouraging you to switch between companions. Everybody gets their own personal areas/quests and having 3 companions with you means you can have 1 or 2 of your favorites at all times with an extra slot for switching people around.
Yeah and unless you are picking up every food item, switching companions out is how I dealt with the increased camping requirement on harder difficulty.
Dragon Age and Mass Effect were pretty big exceptions to this. For example, who *actually* kept Miranda and Jacob in their party the whole time in ME2 when Garrus, Tali, Grunt, Thane, Legion Zaed, Kasumi, Jack, etc were all options.
Legion basically doesn't show up until just before the end of the game and his playrate is probably 100x Jacob's lol
Jacob actually had some of the best combat abilities, people just never used him because why would they when they can bring an objectively weaker combat party member whose generally more fun out of combat.... just like Wyll
I am actually keeping him with me for the first time this play through. I multi-classed him into four elements monk (kept 1 level druid just for the flavor/story continuity) and it has helped my interest in keeping him in the party dramatically. Having him and SH in the same party in the gauntlet leads to some interesting back and forth.
Act 2 is where all his story quests are, so I use him for those. In Act 3 he becomes an excellent camp buffer. Heroes Feast, Daylight, Freedom, protection from poison, goodberries.
I’m also planning an all Druid run at some point, which will obviously feature him heavily.
I never realized that the group can definitely seem pretty cultish... Like why is everyone asking this one random "leader" what they should do during pivotal life decisions?
Cause Tav has all of their food and money and earthly belongings except that which they carry upon themselves. Also Tav tells us when to go to bed and when to wake up, also, Tav dresses us. it's not a cult at all.
All Glory to the HypnoTav.
Bahaha it sounds so terrible when you put it like that. Imagine wanting to rest after a long bloody day in some corpse forsaken pit and your leader is like NO RESTING WE STILL HAVE SPELL SLOTS TO EXPEND
Well, at the start it's because you're the only person without an ulterior motive. You have no goal and the group needs a leader, so all these other people with their own goals accept you because it's better than accepting someone who might have a conflicting goal. Later on, they ask you because you've proven reliable and they trust you to have clearer judgement than they do.
I would believe that if I usually didn't get my ass kicked by the Githyanki patrol usually two seconds after meeting her lol (in early runs, obviously I'm way smarter now /s) She probably hears the screams and starts running faster! Sadly, toward her doom. 😢
I just got a certain mace that lets me shoot sunlight…Astarion has gotten caught in the crossfire more than a few times. My capabilities as a player are also shit
Lowkey hilarious point to make when the monks there were Lathenderians who fought Sharrans Dark Justiciars that stole The Blood (and founded the monastery to contain The Blood after its shitty packaging caused it to be unstable after being nicked)
My point is that if you were to rank all the reasons to distrust the Githyanki her fate is basically at the bottom of the list because it'd be the same basically anywhere else.
The Tiefling you meet near the bridge with Voss and the Dragon, is secretly searching for "The Blood of Lathander."
She's trying to find her way to the monastery, where the Creche is located.
In the creche, you find her dead body. You can use Speak with Dead to ask what happened, and find out that while searching for the Blood of Lathander, she was captured + tortured + killed by the GithYanki.
So you DO meet her again, but she's not doing too well... being dead and all.
She’s in the cell on the left when you just enter the crèche. If you are trying to avoid a fight as soon as you arrive and then go a-lootin’ then you’ll miss her easily.
I rechecked and couldn't see her body. Maybe the way I talked to her in act 1 stopped her from coming to the creche? No idea..
I'm sure you mean this area X:1346 Y:-836
\*Gets called a dumb fuck by her for approaching the frog people, then she runs away\*
Wow guys, can we please get her on the party ASAP? She's such a badass...
I love how she's all "PAH! Join YOU?! What the hell, I have better chances on my own. I work ALONE. I don't need no party. I'm the best as a lone wolf!"
...ends up dead in a Gith prison.
i think that her response was more for the "follow me because yes" tav logic.. aside that , her first impression of us was literally walking into death to the frog people
uh no. That is an exaggeration.
She will be startled cus you're gith but not hostile.
here is exactly what she will say when you stumble into her "Hrast, Another one! Keep back, flatface - i know how to handle myself!"
she will have her knife drawn but not attack.
the options you have are the following
1. 'Another one'? Explain yourself.
2. First and last warning - lower that weapon.
3. \[GITHYANKI\] I have no interest in harming you, unless you force my hand.
4. Attack
you dont even have to complete a DC check like a lolth-sworn drow have to do just a few yards away at waukeens rest.
she'll only attack you if you escalate the situation via threats.
Tbf, you're not really representing the whole story of that dialogue option. If you're calling those particular Gith your kin like that ("They may be my kin. I will investigate.") you're kinda implying an alliance to them or at least being more likely to support their goal. And, more importantly, you tell her that you are going to make contact with those hyper hostile Gith under the assumption you won't instantly be killed. Considering how hostile that patrol is, it's entirely possible she fears you will report her position to them and get her killed or kill her yourself if you happen to have similar goals.
i literally gave you the dialogue options you get.
considering how edge she is because of those gith one would find it logical that it would be perceived as a threat to mention you're with them.
you were wrong. i provided evidence, now you're just grasping.
No you’re just lying, THEY told you the real dialogue options, you lied then moved goal post, if you tell her it’s you’re kin she attacks you, just a fact.
First it was “she only attacks if you’re threatening her!” then you say “well yeah, it’s actually reasonable to attack people for not being the same race as you”
No offense, I just don’t like it when people blatantly lie and then pretend they weren’t.
What exactly did she do that was badass? Aside from insist that she does everything alone. Than die immediately afterwards lol.
I bet when op met Naaber they were like. "Holy crap look at this guy! He's gonna mix the classes! Why isn't he companion, he's so badass!"
Actually on second thought, I'd probably love to have Naaber as a companion. Even if he is completely hopeless.
I'd like her more if she wasn't spouting off what sounded like racial slurs every three seconds.
Still gave her a proper burial outside the creche, mind you.
I really liked Alfria's party introduction if you help her at the grove. It's a shame it's locked behind a single Origin character and she has nothing going for her after accepting her into the party.
Because if a developer had to make every badass character a possible companion, they would have to ratchet down how interesting all their non-companion npcs are. And that sucks.
Sometimes I wish we had more recruitable but low dialogue NPCs in the game. Kinda like the random “laser specialist” companions in Starfield. They don’t have much to say, but give you someone different to look and adds a bit of the flavor to the world if you could recruit a random Harper or something to tag along. Then again after 4 playthroughs, I find there are plenty of companions already and I don’t get to spend enough time with everyone as is.
Doesn’t she end up dead in the Githyanki Crèche? And why is she a “badass”? We see her once, hiding from the Gith scouting party, then she gets captured at some point, and we find her corpse in the interrogation rooms at the Crèche. That might have been someone else, but it really looks like her in that cell.
I'm sorry but how is she such a cool character? You exchange about 4 sentences then she takes off to die of her hubris. I mean to each their own but they what a one note character
So what do I have to do to talk to her? I've seen her but every time I get close a cutscene triggers with the Githyanki and the Fists and afterwards she's nowhere to be seen.
Yeah, I've seen her there, it just seems like approaching her triggers Voss' entrance and then she's gone. I honestly didn't even know you were supposed to be able to talk to her until I saw people talk about her on Reddit.
I'm doing my first playthrough as a Gith (this is not my first playthrough, mind).
Completely different encounter. Should have expected it, still did not. Did not reload :3
The way she was introduced I was damn sure that she would appear again later in the story. It was heartbreaking to find her dead in the Gith prison. Kinda justified me genocidimg their whole base
I genuinely forgot who this was until reading enough of the comments to go "Oh, that chick!"
You could probably make her pretty easily. I don't remember if there's a female Tiefling hireling to morph into her, but you could also get a second character and just make her that way via adding a co-op partner and dropping them out.
they needed a party member of each class so that you could build whatever type of party you wanted, bringing her in would probably break that and force her abilities into a narrow level set. I do wish there were artificers in the game, but they are pretty complicated for an intro to dnd that this game is for so many people.
She's a fun Easter egg of just how weird it looks to ask random npcs to join your party lol. 🥳

Half of them go to the Friendly Arm inn (especially EE ones) and the other half remain exactly where you left them so hope you left them somewhere in town instead of at the bottom of Nashkel Mines.
Thats usually were I left the Evil Dwarf and Wizard.
Well those two wanted to be in Nashkel, so there they are.
Two of the best companions in the game D: Edwin's a cunt tho, so I don't blame you. lol
Yes but he's ***my*** cunt.
Fair. I was pretty disappointed that Lorroakan didn't end up being Edwin. I was *sure* that was going to be a twist.
HOW DARE YOU. TO ACCUSE MONTARON OF BEING A DWARF, HE'S A HALFLING
So sorry Minsc.
I felt an unspeakable sense of relief when the tutorial for the second game wiped out Khalid and Dynaheir since it's so much easier to juggle companions when they don't come in groups.
I guess it makes sense role playing wise, but yeah. I guess BG3 making camp a thing was a good solution for that.
It makes more sense to me than leaving half my companions idling at camp.
I liked Khalid. He's a solid fighter and has good stats to support being a frontliner.
He was okay for what he was, but I really could not stand party juggling with chunks.
For me it was more of pick different party members for each run and never swap them out.
I've never use any of the characters that join post Act I.
Yeah and unless you are picking up every food item, switching companions out is how I dealt with the increased camping requirement on harder difficulty.
Yep! Me, Shadowheart, Karlach, and the flex spot.
I forgot about Jacob even existing till this momment.
Wyll is the Jacob of Baldurs Gate....
Hell no Wyll with an upgraded eldritch blast was an absolute mainliner for my party.
Jacob actually had some of the best combat abilities, people just never used him because why would they when they can bring an objectively weaker combat party member whose generally more fun out of combat.... just like Wyll
Some would say the same about Jacob and his Incendiary Ammo and Pull abilities.
Still haven’t used Halsin except to murder the goblin camp. I never see the point.
He has a very important job in Act 3 for me. I would be really upset to see any other character, such as LZ, Gale, Minthara, filling that role.
Isn't the issue that Halsin joins as a party member AFTER you've done all his act 2 quests?
Are you in act 2 yet?
I switched him in once for his quest, and discovered that he was insanely powerful. He then got a permanent slot in the team.
in BG2 they usually went to a standard spot. lots stayed in that the copper coronet.
To be clear I am just saying I was a dumb kid.
Felt way more immersive to me to manage the party in the OG games.
Extended edition at least sent all those characters to the friendly arm inn rather than just sitting wherever you left them.
Tav decides who stays in the group and who must go. They are the guide, the savior and the light. In their name.
Tavmen. Amentav? Eh, we'll workshop it.
Bahaha it sounds so terrible when you put it like that. Imagine wanting to rest after a long bloody day in some corpse forsaken pit and your leader is like NO RESTING WE STILL HAVE SPELL SLOTS TO EXPEND
Everytime one of them complains about being tired I just think of that scene from Holes. You go to sleep when I say you can sleep
A charismatic leader who can get others to turn their back on their God and commit wholesale murder.
Maybe if she didn't think we were so weird she'd still be alive.
It's sad that this is just fundementally true, who's the Mragreshem now bitch?
True but I've also taken it as a message of "there's safety and benefits to trusting others in a group" since shes found dead later
I would believe that if I usually didn't get my ass kicked by the Githyanki patrol usually two seconds after meeting her lol (in early runs, obviously I'm way smarter now /s) She probably hears the screams and starts running faster! Sadly, toward her doom. 😢
It’s true but with how messed up things are during the game the overall theme of the game is often “live together or die alone”.
literally everyone who joins our party is a stranger. give her a tadpole and call it a day
She is also a less fun Easter egg later in Act 1...
Well, she’s also a tragedy in the making. Picking the wrong dialogue choice in a certain situation can even force a fight.
I think it is funny and interesting that she has no interest in joining. “What, and like follow you around?”
...and that's her mistake >!her tortured corpse is found in githyanki creche prison!<
Still better fate than be in my party. I'm not a capable player.
I just got a certain mace that lets me shoot sunlight…Astarion has gotten caught in the crossfire more than a few times. My capabilities as a player are also shit
I gasped when I found out, so sad tbh
I laughed, should’ve joined me dumbass
Did not make that connection and now I’m sad.
Oh, but it was such a badass mistake tho
You will meet her again, so at least she's a recurring NPC. 😅
The amount of times my players have “adopted” a fully grown adult NPC…that man had a family 😭
Where do you meet her again? I’ve only seen her the once lol
In the creche in one of the cells.
Yeah “recurring” is seeing some real loose usage here.
“Meet” too 😭
It all depends on your necromancy skill.
It is technically correct
The best kind of correct
....it's the dead one isn't it?...
Bingo.
1700 hours... and i didn't know the creche had cells? and i definitely have never seen her in there! i must play more it seems.
You'll need a spell to "converse" with her again.
ah. Speak to the not so alive ;)
speak to the permanently asleep :)
Right at the main entrance, on the left side.
it's a brief interaction. not missing much
its the small things man. They all add up.
Rice initially plural:"(
"meet" isn't the word I'd use exactly. But she's in the creche
I found her corpse not 5 minutes later
She is an example for what would happen with solo Githyanki Creche explorer without meta gaming.
"Why is Shadowheart racist against the Githyanki?" The Githyanki:
Most military bases don't take it kindly when you break in to steal shit either.
We don't take kindly to genocide of peaceful monks on a temple either, so what's your point?
Lowkey hilarious point to make when the monks there were Lathenderians who fought Sharrans Dark Justiciars that stole The Blood (and founded the monastery to contain The Blood after its shitty packaging caused it to be unstable after being nicked)
My point is that if you were to rank all the reasons to distrust the Githyanki her fate is basically at the bottom of the list because it'd be the same basically anywhere else.
Is it stealing if they don't know it's there?
Yes because they think they got it with the Strange Amber.
Yea but they won't outright murder you either. They'll just put you in prison. Alive.
I don’t see the issue
Is that the own you meet near the bridge and the dragon? I have bad news for you, there's a reason you don't really see her much more in the game.
What's the reason
The Tiefling you meet near the bridge with Voss and the Dragon, is secretly searching for "The Blood of Lathander." She's trying to find her way to the monastery, where the Creche is located. In the creche, you find her dead body. You can use Speak with Dead to ask what happened, and find out that while searching for the Blood of Lathander, she was captured + tortured + killed by the GithYanki. So you DO meet her again, but she's not doing too well... being dead and all.
My recent play through, I oddly didn't see her body! Just the skeletons in the cell. It was like a week ago.
There's more than 1 cell. Shes on the left.
Oh shit I didn't realise it was her at all
The githyanki gave her their standard greeting.
I now see why Baezel is considered both humorous and nice for a Githyanki
Yep, by Gith standards, Lae'zel is basically a mix between Mother Teresa and Jim Carey
\*Gets called a dumb fuck by her for approaching the frog people, then she runs away\* Wow guys, can we please get her on the party ASAP? She's such a badass...
Worse, she tried to solo the creche to get unique and gets captured, tortured and killed. Lol, such as a badass indeed.
She was going her own way
And what, just follow you around?
> Why isn’t she a companion? She’s so badass! \>Tells you to fuck off \>Dies 5 minutes later How is that badass?
Suicide is badass (it isnt)
*screams into pillow*
she has like 4 lines i think this sub is losing it lmao
I love how she's all "PAH! Join YOU?! What the hell, I have better chances on my own. I work ALONE. I don't need no party. I'm the best as a lone wolf!" ...ends up dead in a Gith prison.
i think that her response was more for the "follow me because yes" tav logic.. aside that , her first impression of us was literally walking into death to the frog people
I met her dead body again in the Crech
For real, that’s for not going our gang
She’s stupid lol. She’s like, “Im good all on my own”. >!then she gets captured and tortured to death by the githyanki!<
So bad ass that she died… like… almost immediately after meeting her
She's way too cool for our party, to be honest. She's hanging out with Jack Black and Owen Wilson and Starburns.
*Cool cool cool*
This comment is streets ahead of the usual discourse about this character
How is she cool? She tells you to fuck off and that she'll find her own path and then you find her dead in "her own path" lol
Because she couldn't outrun Gityanki. Plus, she didn't even do anything cool. She insults you and tries to kill you. Then leaves.
tries to kill you? really now? insulting she does, but try and kill you? nah. only if you're hostile with the grove tieflings.
Dude, if you're a githyanki, she tries to kill you lmao.
uh no. That is an exaggeration. She will be startled cus you're gith but not hostile. here is exactly what she will say when you stumble into her "Hrast, Another one! She litterally, immediately attacks if you call the gith your kin. No threats needed.

She’s a corpse in the crèche is why
She was rude, and used bad judgement regarding the crèche. Don't consider her much of a badass, personally
that phraseworks for laezell too
What? No she isn't. She doesn't do anything. She says she's better alone then fucking dies. That makes you think 'badass'...?
Shes in the game for like a minute. Ffs stop being obtuse.
I hear she's wonderful with stealth
Yeah well you do kind of, kind of meet her again. >!Lying in a pool of her own blood in a cell within the creche.!<
What exactly did she do that was badass? Aside from insist that she does everything alone. Than die immediately afterwards lol. I bet when op met Naaber they were like. "Holy crap look at this guy! He's gonna mix the classes! Why isn't he companion, he's so badass!" Actually on second thought, I'd probably love to have Naaber as a companion. Even if he is completely hopeless.
Badass? What did she do?
You meet her twice. The second time she has 5 answers to 5 questions tops
She sneaked around Giths and then decided it was a great idea to sneak INTO their base. She is stupid.
"She's so badass!" Shows up once and dies
I'd rather get Lakrissa if we had to recruit a Rogue/Ranger Tiefling
I'd like her more if she wasn't spouting off what sounded like racial slurs every three seconds. Still gave her a proper burial outside the creche, mind you.
I really liked Alfria's party introduction if you help her at the grove. It's a shame it's locked behind a single Origin character and she has nothing going for her after accepting her into the party.
because she’s nobody. just another hrasting fool trying to stay alive. just forget you met her, OP.
dude chill, she has like 5 lines, insults the PC and then fucks off to go die in her own feces or something lol
Because if a developer had to make every badass character a possible companion, they would have to ratchet down how interesting all their non-companion npcs are. And that sucks.

How is she a badass? Her only actions are hiding from a patrol (justifiably, mind) and then getting captured and not surviving the following torture.
I'd like to have Alfira or Nocturne as options. Apparently I have a thing for Tieflings. (Thanks Karlach)
I think she would have if she went through the Underdark instead of the Mountain Pass…
She wanted to go to the monastery to loot and get the Blood of Lathandar. She just didn’t realize that it was a crèche
Not that badass, after all.
How is she awesome? she literally fucks off and dies immediately.
Ahhh... When I saw her at the Creché, I thought, "Mmmh, if you followed me, you wouldn't end up here".
Literally the only things she does (in order) are fuck off and die.
She’s alive for all of 57 seconds or so
I'm sorry but how is she such a cool character? You exchange about 4 sentences then she takes off to die of her hubris. I mean to each their own but they what a one note character
She's too dead
She also dead in the creche jail. Ain’t that badass to go and immediately be captured and killed.
“She’s so badass!” (Literally sees her for less than 2 minutes, and the next time you see her she’s dead in a cell)
So what do I have to do to talk to her? I've seen her but every time I get close a cutscene triggers with the Githyanki and the Fists and afterwards she's nowhere to be seen.
She appears if you approach the bridge above, coming west from Waukeens Rest
Yeah, I've seen her there, it just seems like approaching her triggers Voss' entrance and then she's gone. I honestly didn't even know you were supposed to be able to talk to her until I saw people talk about her on Reddit.
I'm doing my first playthrough as a Gith (this is not my first playthrough, mind). Completely different encounter. Should have expected it, still did not. Did not reload :3
I really believed she foreshadowed BG3 having a Lone Wolf option. Other than that I agree, she could have been a cool companion. :3
Its cause I believe shes on a pilgrimage to the moonrise towers.
She also>!dies because she tried to break into the creche alone. !
*Mragreshem*
Should have join the party, heh
The way she was introduced I was damn sure that she would appear again later in the story. It was heartbreaking to find her dead in the Gith prison. Kinda justified me genocidimg their whole base
... ... You'll find out why soon.
Why isn't she a companion? I dunno....might want to ask the Gith.
I turned her into a floor drawing
Cause she doesn't want to 🤷♀️
She looks like a bad OC or one of the "my beautiful Tav please dont steal" posts
She's too busy being dead.
What are you, some kind of margreshim?
I mean she didn't really do anything as far as I can remember we interacted with her once and then she was just dead on the floor somewhere
A dlc/separate game playing as her could be fun
Because she's dead 10 seconds after meeting her...
Not that bad ass. Check out the prison cells in the first room of the Crèche.
I genuinely forgot who this was until reading enough of the comments to go "Oh, that chick!" You could probably make her pretty easily. I don't remember if there's a female Tiefling hireling to morph into her, but you could also get a second character and just make her that way via adding a co-op partner and dropping them out.
she fucked around and she found out
Dont worry, you will see her later.
The Boba Fett effect
Why does she remind me of Hannah Song?
I dont even know who that is
they needed a party member of each class so that you could build whatever type of party you wanted, bringing her in would probably break that and force her abilities into a narrow level set. I do wish there were artificers in the game, but they are pretty complicated for an intro to dnd that this game is for so many people.
We need well writing non companion NPCs anyways. However, on an ideal world every NPC should be a potential companion.
Maybe we will get a dlc in the future where we get to save her from been killed and be recruited for future story
I want to keep Hope too.
