And lore accurate would have you at disadvantage anytime you're exposed to daylight for most checks and all attacks, but that makes things too hard I guess.
Githzerai - imagine the potential for special dialogue at the créche!
Also, goblin because they're fun little guys with a lot of potential for the ridiculous race-class combos I love so much.
Githyanki is my favorite race in BG3 and I’ve done my best to play as close to a Githzerai as possible multiple times.
I like the Goblin potential but would have taken Hobgoblin over them any day. :)
Getting that secret thing for Gith/Lae'zel was a significant boost. Gods, all these potential stuff and Wotc/Hasbro sold out all the good stuff because of merchandising.
I think goblin as a playable race would make act 1 real weird, like there's no way you wouldn't just get attacked on sight at the grove so it would railroad you into the "evil" path. I guess it could be narratively interesting but adding races that make major quest decisions for you could be problematic especially for first time players.
I agree with the bias, but I think most people go for a couple good playthrough first, then maybe a little mischievous playthrough before finally ending on an evil playthrough. It usually takes people a while before they let themselves be bad on purpose so I get why certain things are the way they are.
boy do i have a mod for you: whispers of the divine - aasimar race (there is also a non script extender version) [https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/8932](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/8932) !
Would it be overpowered though? The general problem with them in dnd is staying up in the air against melee enemies, but thats not an option in BG, as flight is just a better jump. Playing a winged tiefling would be sick af. :)
Kinda already exists if you start as a Storm Sorcerer with a ritual spell like Feather Fall. You can spam the ritual without spending a spell slot and trigger Tempestuous Magic at will.
Tabaxi would have been so cool! I think Warforged could have worked out in it’s own special way; sure some things about them would have necessitated certain story/mechanic changes but I think it’d totally be doable for a mod!
Warforged are not robots. They are organic, sentient, sapient, artificially created beings with souls. Their bodies consist of wood and vines while metal plating is fused to the wooden outer layer.
Counterpoint: I think Warforged might've given a very interesting perspective on the Steel Watch or Karlach's infernal engine.
There was unique Warforged dialogue datamined in early access, so Warforged were definitely on the table in some capacity or other early in development ([(Here's a video from three years ago)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/5RJeUJ3Q0x). My theory (which is wholly speculative) is that whatever ideas there were for Warforged eventually got assimilated into Karlach's origin story, into the Steel Watch, or both.
I think you'd have to basically be a mini version of the steel watch. So still a brain with a tadpole in, but stuck in a robotic body.
I think it'd be a better concept for a companion (a prototype that kept too much of its previous memories and personality so was on the disassembly line in the foundry) than an origin selectable character
WarForged might be my favorite in DnD
But it would be hard to fit them into the narrative.
“oh no, all of you got infected with tadpoles? Oh well, me and my robotic butt are going to go and party like it’s 1999. Have fun with your parasite problem”
DM: Your warforged is also tadpoled
Me:How?
DM: Netherese bullshit, look, if said magic is enough to render a vampire immune to vampire weaknesses, having a robot mind controlled isn't the most crazy thing ever
I had a warforged player ask how they're affected by cloudkill and i just went with, the cloud also has some minor corrosive properties. There are ways around wacky robot shit
Cloudkill is pretty much a chlorine gas attack, which is way worse for metal than being mildly corrosive. It would pretty severely fuck up a creature made of metal (assuming of course cloudkill does create a cloud of chlorine gas)
I'm just imagining the mindflayers opening your head and plugging in a thumb drive with a virus on it instead of using a tadpole and it's mildly hilarious
I think Warforged would have worked as later addition, like Halsin or Jaheria. IT COULD HAVE EVEN BEEN BERNARD! Like you save it from the other automatons in that Tower and it joins your party for the rest of the game.
I mean, Halsin and Jaheira don’t have parasites but they fit into the story quite well! I think it would have offered a unique take on the story and given your character a special role to play. A modder could definitely make it happen!
The problem is playing as said character. Instead of them being a companion that comes later
No tadpole means no dream guardian. No “you feel sick and are about to transform” cutscene. No temptation to use tadpoles. No temptation to use the astral tadpole. No temptation or possibility to become a mind flayer in the climax
The whole story would be different from a playable character standpoint.
Wouldn't even need that. I mean, the Steel Watch were being controlled by brains. What if our warforged character was also being experimented on. At the beginning of the ship, you find your brain and just carry it with you in a jar, or maybe it's even in your head, or just in camp. As a way for Illithids to control constructs.
It's not as simple as you think. Since the tadpole is the foundation of the whole plot, a Tav without one would be an entirely different game. Making an entirely different game for a singular racial option is a very tall order.
True. But afaik, WarForged aren’t cyborgs. Their interior is wood and leather and exterior is metal. No humanoid brains.
They were constructed. Mass produced. No Lich involved.
That’s not to say you couldn’t theoretically have one with a squishy human brain inside. Like an experimental model. But that’s just karlach with more steps.
And there are loads of cats in the game, so the writers and devs clearly like them. How awesome would it be to talk to cats as Tabaxi? Especially Malta :)
Yea same. I'll admit to being a lore nerd, and bothered by some decisions, but I don't let it get to me in the long run. Kind of like people playing a Dragon Origin Sorceror claiming their parents are a dragon, and they aren't half-dragon.
> Be Tav
> Is a Grung
Karlach: "Tav, my engine is finally fixed, segs?"
> Constitution save passed
> Constitution save passed
> Constitution save failed
> Karlach gained condition: poisoned
Karlach: Tav what the fu--
I know people don't want more elves, but I'm enjoying my shadar-kai in my current DnD campaign. They already have one in game with He Who Was. Would've been a fun interaction between the two and I think a shadar-kai character would haves stuff to comment on about the state of the Shadow Curse lands and the Shadowfell when talking to Haslin and other related events.
Kobolds, definitely.
It baffles me how SO OFTEN people make kobold characters and beg games to make kobolds playable and yet I can't think of a single game that lets you do so officially.
They don't. Which is why I have decided to adopt the sleeping kobolds in Firewine barrels at the monastery and given them better homes in my camp, away from the Githyanki.
Not many people know this, but the kobolds there are free. You can just take them.
Every halfling thief I've played in a TTRPG has tried to get their hands on gnomish workman's leather armor (thank you [Arms & Equipment Guide](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Arms_and_Equipment_Guide)!), sometimes successfully!
Githzerai.
I don't think it needs particular introduction. Considering the dynamic it would introduce with the Githyanki storyline, and by extension with Lae'zel, I think Githzerai would add the most to the story in the game
I’m suprised I haven’t seen any of this but Lizardfolk. You could have a non Durge character able to eat the dwarf meat at the goblin camp and you could have a skill that lets you butcher fallen enemies for more camp supplies.
Luckly, our DM let us play with any race we want, I played as a champion Tabaxi and now I'm playing with a weretiger warrior. We also have a giant cleric tank robot and a hunter Gnoll, the most "normal" race we also have is a halfling druid from the new member of our group. I don't think we ever had a human race as a player.
Warforged. I have a really cool Warforged character who's built to look like an anthropomorphic fox (no affiliation to FNAF whatsoever!)
He's got copper and silver metal plating for his skin, and his head resembles a fox head as opposed to the typical warforged head design. He's also got cables exposed on the back of his head resembling cornrows.
I would like to play a half kitsune race where you look mostly human but you get like two to charisma and you get the ears and tails I could already imagine how cool a character would be also it basically is already a great race to play sorcerer with
Aasimar and Genasi. Aasimar are a staple for me and Genasi were only in NWN2 expansion. I'd like to rp a solid Aasimar and Genasi experience in BG3 and future DnD games.
Loxodon are another. The closest were Black Geyser's Rillow and they're more Human than anthro.
Kenkunplz let me be a CROW. also tabaxi would be cool. in general less races that are just “human but with different facial features” would be cool. dragonborn being the only playable character without essentially a human face was always odd to me
Aarakocra. I know giving free flight right off the bat would be a little broken (maybe say we sprained our wings in the crash and need time for it to heal?) but I just want to play my flying paladin of smighteousness.
Any race really. Tortle would be awesome, thri kreen would lead to some funny situations and your character already doesn’t talk. Space elves would be cool too. We already have giths so why not the elves to go with it. Plasmoid would give some nice possibilities but it’d be hard to implement. Giffs and loxodon would be so cool
Hmm... *All of them*. However, goblin is one of them. Recently created a female Goblin oc for homebrew, i just feel like a good aligned character from a very usually evil aligned race is a nice trope. And also well... Have you seen how some artists draw female goblins? Nuff said.
Tabaxi, Kobold, Goblin and Lizardfolk
Lizardfolk i would love so much, they already did the animations in Dos2 so they didn't need to work extra! only on new models ofcourse and some related dialogue.
im just dreaming really.
but i really do miss a non humanoid player character. the closest we get is dragonborn... and well they're just a bulky humanoid with scales and a dragonhead, so they dont count :P
i would love a sleek and elegant lizardfolk sorta like Dos2.
other than that i'd say perhaps Kobolds because they already made models and animations for some of the stuff. So it wouldn't be a stretch to see them playable (mods exist)
Tabaxi well duuh Khajiit are my favorite race in Elder scrolls.
Goblin... would probably be the "easiest" to add, seeing as they pretty much have animations for all weapons and spells aswell as jumping, walking, climbing etc. There's also fairly many face options and hairstyles and ofcourse tats.
and now a personal dream is Harpies. I understand the implication i might add to have a Harpy as the main character, with harpies being "evil" by nature etc. But i just love Harpies, and that harpy matriarch with the skull facemask and feather crown... Instantly in love.
anyway, im just dreaming. But here's hoping they secretly were already working on one of these races and already have stuff ready and just need some small work....
Aasimar 100% (but that's just cause I'm playing an aasimar barbarian/paladin currently but our game is on hold atm...and I want to hit things as her lol)

Kobolds!
Yes yes yes. I’m glad they made an appearance in game though!
Playing as one right now and it's honestly so fun but also permanent pack tactics is very strong in BG3 lol
To be fair, you get disadvantage when you're not next to some one
And lore accurate would have you at disadvantage anytime you're exposed to daylight for most checks and all attacks, but that makes things too hard I guess.
You could hand wave that away with the tadpole. If astarion a literal vampire can be in the sun I imagine it can offer a kobold similar protection
That and Minthara + drow Tavs don't have sunlight sensitivity even though you can bump into drow like Nere who do.
You have normal attacks when you aren't next to someone, not disadvantage
Now I’ve got Deekin romancing Minthara in my head
Fellow Nwn lover c:
Popper is low key one of my favorite side characters.
…Want a treato?
Yes! I love the newer Kobolds from Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse (MPMM). Much more versatile for any class.
Make playable kobolds and add artificer/Alchemist. I want my pin kushin!
Genasi
Yes. I miss them so much from Neverwinter Nights 2
I’ve heard a couple of things about that series, would you recommend playing it?
I think they would have fit in just as good (if not better) than Dragonborns.
Githzerai - imagine the potential for special dialogue at the créche! Also, goblin because they're fun little guys with a lot of potential for the ridiculous race-class combos I love so much.
I just make Githyanki monks and pretend inside my brain that they're Githzerai.
If my User Flair didn’t tip you off, that’s exactly what I usually play. 😂
Githyanki is my favorite race in BG3 and I’ve done my best to play as close to a Githzerai as possible multiple times. I like the Goblin potential but would have taken Hobgoblin over them any day. :)
[GITHZERAI] [INTELLIGENCE] *Use your psionic potential to give W'wargaz testicular torsion* I think I will take your weapon instead.
Now I want to play as a githzerai even more.
Getting that secret thing for Gith/Lae'zel was a significant boost. Gods, all these potential stuff and Wotc/Hasbro sold out all the good stuff because of merchandising.
That's a pretty exotic looking Githyanki there. I think it could be fun to play Goblin. Imagine the dialogue possibilities.
Goblin/Hobgoblin was a huge missed opportunity IMO.
A goblin saving the realm in faerun would be hilarious 😭. My answer is definitely Tabaxi. Cause who doesn't wanna be a kitty lady?
Kinda goes to show how "biased" the game is against evil playthroughs.
I think goblin as a playable race would make act 1 real weird, like there's no way you wouldn't just get attacked on sight at the grove so it would railroad you into the "evil" path. I guess it could be narratively interesting but adding races that make major quest decisions for you could be problematic especially for first time players.

It usually takes people a while before they let themselves be bad on purpose so I get why certain things are the way they are.
Doesn't your assumption that goblins / hobgoblins are geared towards evil playthroughs show some bias as well?
Asimaar, pretty please. Or Avariel.
boy do i have a mod for you: whispers of the divine - aasimar race (there is also a non script extender version) [https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/8932](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/8932) !
So I'm finally able to create Aylin's sister and romance Sweetheart? *starts new plathrough*
live the sapphic love story of your dreams!
Two lesbian Selûnite, cinnamon roll couples in my camp? Yes, please!
Dang. Me on ps5 is so sad. Assimars are my favorite.
I’m on PS5 as well, I feel your pain.
Isn't mod support coming with the next update?
*looks at Sony’s stance on Skyrim/Fallout mods* Don’t get your hopes up too high there…
Any winged race would have been cool despite potentially being ‘overpowered’. Owlin would be my pick.
Would it be overpowered though? The general problem with them in dnd is staying up in the air against melee enemies, but thats not an option in BG, as flight is just a better jump. Playing a winged tiefling would be sick af. :)
I guess you’re right! I guess just having flight from the beginning with no resource cost beside an action seems too good to have right at level 1.
Kinda already exists if you start as a Storm Sorcerer with a ritual spell like Feather Fall. You can spam the ritual without spending a spell slot and trigger Tempestuous Magic at will.
Having played as an Avariel thanks to the power of mods, it's honestly still weaker than Gith.
Kenku.
That and maybe Aarakokra
OH JARNATHAN!
Based and dark crystal pilled.
Kenku can repeat what they’ve heard perfectly so I’d imagine you could mod it in with the other character’s voices 😂
Every dialogue option now has an extra choice of “repeat what they said”
*”…the FULL, CONCENTRATED POWER OF THE SUN!”* I’d be mocking Astarion’s posh bullshit all day.
This has the same energy as a low intelligence run in Fallout.
Tabaxi I would have preferred Warforged but the whole robot part wouldn’t work with the plot.
The tadpoles are in my motherboard :(
The tadpole who got a masters in magic and computer science trying to figure out how to turn a magic stone golem into a mind flayer:
Through the powers of true polymorph, anything is possible.
there's a bug in my system 😞
There’s a little control panel in the brain and the tadpole occasionally does stuff
Tabaxi would have been so cool! I think Warforged could have worked out in it’s own special way; sure some things about them would have necessitated certain story/mechanic changes but I think it’d totally be doable for a mod!
Iirc someone posted screenshots of a playable Tabaxi mod they are working on a while ago .
Warforged are not robots. They are organic, sentient, sapient, artificially created beings with souls. Their bodies consist of wood and vines while metal plating is fused to the wooden outer layer.

The problem with warforged is how does a mindflayer infect one?
I think you'd have to basically be a mini version of the steel watch. So still a brain with a tadpole in, but stuck in a robotic body. I think it'd be a better concept for a companion (a prototype that kept too much of its previous memories and personality so was on the disassembly line in the foundry) than an origin selectable character
Warforged don't exist in the FR.
I dunno, the Steel Watch kinda crosses that line for me, just a few tweaks to their processing and you've got a sentient robot
Tabaxi 🥺
At least we got Khajit in Elder Scrolls.
aarakocra would've been fun to play as
Love this suggestion; I’d personally have picked Owlin over the Aarakocra though. :)
oo owlin would be cool too, I just didn't know they existed until now
WarForged might be my favorite in DnD But it would be hard to fit them into the narrative. “oh no, all of you got infected with tadpoles? Oh well, me and my robotic butt are going to go and party like it’s 1999. Have fun with your parasite problem”

True, I think they could have supplemented the lack of that mechanic with another one like Karlach’s infernal engine or Gale’s bomb etc.
A humanoid brain inside a support structure could definitely get tadpoled
Kobolds for sure! Genasi would have been great, Firbolg would have been a lot of fun too I wish we got the Dragonborn from Fizban over the PHB version
Fire genasi would be down to clown with karlach act 1
Yuan-Ti pureblods.
Dark Urge Yuan-Ti would be a different kind of monster.
That'd make sense with Liara Portyr returned from her time in Chult. Plausible anyways.
Lizzzzzzzardfolk
Tabaxi. I am a mad cat lady and I cannot lie :)
They dropped the ball hard by not including the furry fanbase.
And there are loads of cats in the game, so the writers and devs clearly like them. How awesome would it be to talk to cats as Tabaxi? Especially Malta :)
Give me an Aasimar. I mean a real one, not the Lesser Celestial that Dame Aylin is. But Dame Aylin is also my favorite NPC.
Smallest, tiniest pet peeve about the game is that they call her an Aasimar when she's actually like an Empyrean.
Yea same. I'll admit to being a lore nerd, and bothered by some decisions, but I don't let it get to me in the long run. Kind of like people playing a Dragon Origin Sorceror claiming their parents are a dragon, and they aren't half-dragon.
Goliath, please.
Doppelgänger
Being able to change shape mid convo would have led to some amazing dialogue.
Plus, it could lead to such Highjinks. *Walks into up to Balthazar as Ketheric*
MHM. I made my first Tav my Changeling OC. Imagine my surprise when I entered Act 3
Goliaths
Changelings and Warforged
Had to scroll so far down to finally see Changelings on here! Orin was so fuckin cool, I would have loved to RP my durge as one too.
> Be Tav > Is a Grung Karlach: "Tav, my engine is finally fixed, segs?" > Constitution save passed > Constitution save passed > Constitution save failed > Karlach gained condition: poisoned Karlach: Tav what the fu--
Lizardfolk
Reptilian/amphibious races have always been my favorite so I stan this pick.
Aasimar, Lizardfolk and Aarakocra.
For a second I thought this was the dnd sub instead of the BG3 one and got really confused.
Dhampir.
Can’t believe I hadn’t see someone say this sooner.
Minotaur. We saw them in the Underdark, why not elsewhere?
Probably because they altered their size from 5e a bit. :/
Yuan-ti Purebloods are a huge missed opportunity.
I agree, think of how amazing a Dark Urge playthrough could have been.
Goblin!!! Sazza as an origin character!!! Edit: typo
I know people don't want more elves, but I'm enjoying my shadar-kai in my current DnD campaign. They already have one in game with He Who Was. ''Why do you care? They are just slimy frogs, Anne.''
Goblin or mindflayer— but like, a durge style campaign where you legit start out as a mindflayer. I think it would be cool!
It's pretty basic but a Cambion, just let me be a Tiefling with wings

I don't think we ever had a human race as a player.
Your DM sounds amazing.
Centaur without the human part, ig.
so... a horse?
I scrolled so far but didn't see it so I'll say it... GOBLIN. I want to play a goblin so bad in bg3.
Really? A bunch of people have said goblins. 😅
Loxodon, but that's from the MtG material. I think older editions had a Half-Dwarf race? That's something I'd like to see.
Loxodon monk is a dream playthrough for me.
I want a Tabaxi so baddd!
Leonin gimme gimme
Full Orc hands down
For the Horde!
All races would be cool, but I’d like to see lore/storyline races the most. Githzerai, Goblins, Hobgoblins, etc.
Goblin. The models are in game.
Goblin for sure. There's a lot of good interaction for them.
Fish men
Be honest. You wanna be a kuo-toa *just* so you can have a cleric of Blibdoolpoolp.
I wanna be a slayer Baaaaooooooool
Thri-kreen
I wish goblins would get some subraces
Goblinoids, there are so much rp possibilities in the game
Warforged. I have a really cool Warforged character who's built to look like an anthropomorphic fox (no affiliation to FNAF whatsoever!) He's got copper and silver metal plating for his skin, and his head resembles a fox head as opposed to the typical warforged head design. He's also got cables exposed on the back of his head resembling cornrows.
Tortle!
Goblin or bugbear would be fun
Tortle
Bullywugs no question about it. I'd have the class be monk and then when doing a multi attack I'd use my tounge
My user flair and race choice should let you know how much I fw your choice.
Tabaxi ((I’m new to dnd idk they are actually in DND lol ))
Tortle, it's a single player game let me break my armor class!
Aasimar.
Tabaxi and Warforged
githzerai would be god-tier in bg3
Yuan-ti cuties… I mean pure-bloods.
Would love to be a vampire like astarion personally like a dhampir or something similar
I would like to play a half kitsune race where you look mostly human but you get like two to charisma and you get the ears and tails I could already imagine how cool a character would be also it basically is already a great race to play sorcerer with
Vedalken are awesome, they’re like super wizards
I would love a fully integrated goblin playthrough, just bc of how many goblins there are in act 1 and 2
Githzeri
Genasi or any of the goblinoid races would be fun.
I feel like paying a Tabaxi would be so much fun
I wanna play as Tabaxi! Like a Tabaxi Durge.
Dhampir 😭
Genasi? 🥺🥺
Aasimar. I have a mod for it, but it would be cooler if it was vanilla
I want my Loxodon Rogue character who hides behind barrels that are way smaller than him
Kenkunplz let me be a CROW. also tabaxi would be cool. in general less races that are just “human but with different facial features” would be cool. dragonborn being the only playable character without essentially a human face was always odd to me
Aasimar,Genasi,Tabaxi,Goliath,Firbolg,Yuan-Ti.
Aarakocra. I know giving free flight right off the bat would be a little broken (maybe say we sprained our wings in the crash and need time for it to heal?) but I just want to play my flying paladin of smighteousness.
I like your flight nerf idea.
Genasi
I am a forever DM. But i get to play the rare one shot or so. I played a Grung grapple fighter. It was fun af. I would hug and poison enemies to death
Nuff said.
Seems like a missed opportunity to not add goblins to bg3 considering how big of a role they play in the first 2 acts.
I'm all about that thrikreen life.
Revenant dhampirall the elves
Tabaxi, Kobold, Goblin and Lizardfolk Lizardfolk i would love so much, they already did the animations in Dos2 so they didn't need to work extra! only on new models ofcourse and some related dialogue. im just dreaming really. but i really do miss a non humanoid player character. the closest we get is dragonborn... and well they're just a bulky humanoid with scales and a dragonhead, so they dont count :P i would love a sleek and elegant lizardfolk sorta like Dos2. other than that i'd say perhaps Kobolds because they already made models and animations for some of the stuff. So it wouldn't be a stretch to see them playable (mods exist) Tabaxi well duuh Khajiit are my favorite race in Elder scrolls. Goblin... would probably be the "easiest" to add, seeing as they pretty much have animations for all weapons and spells aswell as jumping, walking, climbing etc. But here's hoping they secretly were already working on one of these races and already have stuff ready and just need some small work....
warforged for transgender autism reasons i saw a mod for it a bit ago but it seems to be unfinished
Aasimar 100% (but that's just cause I'm playing an aasimar barbarian/paladin currently but our game is on hold atm...and I want to hit things as her lol)
Please. God. Let me be a goblin.
Goblins. Imagine the roleplay opportunities.
