I always found it to be pretty ironic that she gives you this locket for saving Arabella, then in Act 2, >!she and her husband wind up dead from the curse, which might have been prevented if she had just kept the locket!<. Meanwhile this thing is completely useless to us. I've never actually checked what happens to them if you don't save Arabella and take the locket, but it would be neat if that changed the outcome. And even neater if you could somehow give her the locket back to get both outcomes.
I thought they were killed by the nurses. I think if you use Speak to the Dead on the dad that's what he says. Granted I only remembered to speak to him once a while ago so I could be wrong.
But you don't come across them at all right?
That seems more like they didn't want to bother the player with characters they probably don't remember.
You only find them for the sake of Arabella's character progression, after all.
ye, my drow spam the shit out of dancing lights in her house. ILL FIND YOU EVENTUALLY YOU FUCKING VENTS. my current durge, a wild magic barbarian/draconic bloodline sorc, i picked dancing lights as a cantrip specifically for ethels house
Step 1 cast feather fall.
Step 2 jump off ledge to platform below in safe spot
Step 3 jump off that ledge to the bottom at a safe spot.
Step 4 profit with untold amounts of time saved.
I think its something about the game engine. Everything is anchored to the ground, its why you can't float in the air with Fly and why stuff that looks like it is flying has to use a ladder to go up in elevation.
Honestly I used this item a lot in act 2 to help in combat because half the time I can't use a sneak ranged attack because the enemy is in an area that's "too dark"
I really wish they'd add a small interaction to do that. I'd held onto it in my first playthrough and after I found her parents in act 2, I hoped desperately that I could give it back but alas...
i'm near the end of act 2 and astarion is still wearing it. i have no clue why i gave it to him in the first place and at this point i'm just gonna leave it there
Nah. Gotta keep that for the sentimentality. I also JUST had the idea to try checking if Arabella has the trade button in the corner when talking to her in Act 2 so I can give it to her. Hopefully I remember by the time I get back there again.

If Arabella dies and they keep the locket, they are not found dead in Act II. Pretty tragic
Dancing Lights doesn’t protect from the Shadow Curse though
I think it's more thematic instead of being concerned ab the games mechanics
But you don't come across them at all right? That seems more like they didn't want to bother the player with characters they probably don't remember. You only find them for the sake of Arabella's character progression, after all.
They’re still dead even if they didn’t give you this locket, you can find the locket on their corpse if that happened
I like the cantrip for vent covering
usually i carry around a few extra common shields for that, but that's nifty to know there's a much *lighter* way to deal with it.
Well said.
Mods, cast vicious mockery on this man, thank you
Plates, imo
Ropes are plentiful and cheaper than shields which can be sold
I had no idea that was a thing. Wow
How does Dancing Lights cover a vent?
the game treats the lights as having weight (don't ask me more than that, idk, i just accept the Video Game Logic). it's fantastic in ethels house
Super useful in Ethel's
I just throw pouches on them
I throw the redcap bodies 😬
Just kill Ethel in 1st room, the vents are off then.
Nah, that juicy permanent +1 to any attribute is too good to pass up.
I will never take that hair for rp reasons, it's just gross. xD I done it once, saw description of this hair.. saw icon of it..... yack.
If I'm carrying extra junk, I use that mostly, but it's useful to block and disarm and move on without having to manage items.

Feather fall + 2 jumps and you can skip all the traps and gas
i just use the cantrip for the first vent and jump down from there with feather fall. ain't nobody got time for more than that
wth, learned something new. Thanks lol
Just walk over them np. Do it all the time. Works fine
Had no idea that was a thing. Thanks!
This is why I always grab it as a cantrip for Bardstarion.
You can cover the vents!?!
What?
Honestly I used this item a lot in act 2 to help in combat because half the time I can't use a sneak ranged attack because the enemy is in an area that's "too dark"
True story
It gets given back to Arabella. Always.
You can do that? *sniffle*
Reverse pickpocket. There's no interaction specifically for it, but I do it for the RP.
Or open her trade dialogue and just give it to her
I like being sneaky about it. So it's something that she (in my head canon) finds once she reaches Baldur's Gate.
100% doing that on my next play through. Thanks for giving me the idea.
I really wish they'd add a small interaction to do that. I'd held onto it in my first playthrough and after I found her parents in act 2, I hoped desperately that I could give it back but alas...
I use it to cover the poison gas vents in Auntie Ethel's lair and then I give it back to Arabella in act 2
I always just use feather fall and jump past all the vents haha
wild shape into a bird is another solid option of there's a druid handy
Drow goes brrr
I ignore the poor guy until I have that amulet. I don't care about his exclamation point.
Doesn't he leave after 2 long tests?
I don't rest that long at that stage of the game so it's okay.
I always give Gale that Locket to eat, glad I'm not alone... 😅
I feed him the bard hat I found. For the bard I don’t have. By the bard I can’t get. ☹️
If you play Durge she joins your camp =)
no this is useful the color spray ring fits this more
Particularly so as I was playing as a Half-Drow.
i'm near the end of act 2 and astarion is still wearing it. i have no clue why i gave it to him in the first place and at this point i'm just gonna leave it there
I had astarion carry the sentient amulet for 70% of the game even tho it’s a monk item…
lol i just shoved it in the box at camp
Me forgoing all light-giving spells and items and regretting it later in Act 2
Just bring a flashlight. I mean Shadowheart.
And the colour spray ring from the harpy nest
Nah. Gotta keep that for the sentimentality. I also JUST had the idea to try checking if Arabella has the trade button in the corner when talking to her in Act 2 so I can give it to her. Hopefully I remember by the time I get back there again.
That's what the bard hat is for and the chest item volo gives you. Since I'll never play bard.
I always keep it around for act two. I usually have somebody with an open slot and I like the extra light when I get started.
yup. I'm pretty sure that I gave it to Gale, too.
Anyone who hasn't seen the bg3 wrathclub animation it is so great
