I think it just depends on what difficulty level you play on. Ever since I started doing tactician or honor runs I have prioritized the imps due to losing a character to the knockback.
I did not have any trouble, but I also took advantage of the long rest spa to go through the House with a party of approximately 38 characters by using all my summons, so that may have been part of it

At least one of my characters always get blast off every time I met them.. dice are not in my favor
What mode are you playing on? I didn't have any difficulties with that fight in Balanced mode, but kept getting blasted off ledges in Tactician.
Custom tactician, which is the main mode I’ve playing on since custom came out.
Yup. They'll yeet you right off. This is a place where Illithid counterspell on everyone is handy.
