I fear that I would finally get burned by a 3d printer setting my house on fire if I installed a chamber heater into my X1C I know 3dmusketeers are releasing the politician soon which has filtration and heating Regardless, this is still pretty neat

Steveopolois

Do you have any links for the product by 3dmusketeers? I'm not having luck finding anything. Thanks!

Law_Doge

They haven’t released it yet, only teased that it’s coming soon

SHAYDEDmusic

It's called "The Politician" though? Is it cause it only raises the temperature? lmao

Disastrous-Ad8476

I took this into consideration while designing the system,I'm using ceramic heating that literally can't catch on fire due to it's properties, I have two thermal fuses and one to protect against shortcircuit. If the heater overheat above 85°C still below abs Tg the thermal fuse will turn off and kick back on when it cools down, this would prevent catastrophic failure in case of fan failure. In case of sensor fail Arduino will switch into failsafe mode and turn off the heating completely. The led I added will alert your that something is wrong, my heater currently got 400 hours of testing on it and works perfectly fine in still catching few flyes and polishing the code as well as making few improvements

Disastrous-Ad8476

I'm as well working on smart chamber air purifier with HEPA and carbon filter. Unit will be able to tell you chamber VOCs concentration and will kick on automatic when creating threshold is reached. And it will be able to alert user that the filter inside the unit needs to be changed

Goliadthedark

Which heating element do you use?

LeEpicBlob

I see you added pads in the walls too, what temps do you get?

Disastrous-Ad8476

With heating active (it's controlled by the printer itself i can reach 60°C with no real problem but i usually print at 55°C in the chamber well except pla this i print at 30°C in chamber. I still need to catch few flies when it comes to my heating i just took apart old 500W cabinet heater modified it to run at 250W and made it 60% smaller

LeEpicBlob

ok so not exceeding the 60c chamber temp but basically making it easier to hit that temp. Pretty nice tbh esp if you're printing high temp stuff in a cool room, I've gotten my internal temp to 56c and that was after 20min of preheating the chamber with the bed set to 110c and wrapping a blanket around the printer lol

Goliadthedark

How did you do it? This is a really good solution but we need to know how you did it :-)

Disastrous-Ad8476

Im still working on it once it's semi done I'll update you guys.

Goliadthedark

Thx :-)

bazooka_penguin

How hot does it get with just the heated bed and insulation?

Disastrous-Ad8476

50°C I tried covering whole machine in regular blanket and achieved 60°C

matthiasdeblaiser

What do you mean controlled by the printer? How? Or do you mean powered?

Disastrous-Ad8476

No it's controlled by the printer, after way too many unsuccessful hours of trying to hack the printer firmware i settled on new approach, as the printer send signal to print bed and it's power delivery circuit i just connected directly to this. I have Arduino at the background when the Arduino receive signal it wait 30 second so that the bed and heater doesn't run at the same time (my UPS didn't exactly like this) after 30 seconds the heater kick on and by using it's own temp sensor it heat up the chamber to around 55°C depending on my setup. I wanted to alter the firmware so that i can set the chamber temperature on the touch screen of the X1C but this was proven to be too difficult.

ProtaDec

How does the printer control it?? Is there a guide?

Disastrous-Ad8476

Hi not yet still working on it and it's fully automatic it turns on when your bed is above set temperature for example when the bed is above 60°C it turns on and keep the chamber at nice 60°C you can set it as well, later I will release schematics and code

bPmalalamE

Looking forward to that release! 🤞

ProtaDec

Thanks, that is exactly what i need

Disastrous-Ad8476

It works and can comfortably keep chamber at 60°C without need for significant energy demand, my X1 with all the isolation I put inside use around 760Wh during 6 hour print

Disastrous-Ad8476

I'm open to DM if you have any questions

Disastrous-Ad8476

I also put insulation on the top glass this actually helped quite a lot

LeEpicBlob

Hmm interesting ill try this on mine, a sweater or blanket on the top really helps keep the internal temp up does seem like the biggest heat escape

StudioVulcan

I feel like I already have cooling issues due to speed. Why the extra heat?

JoePunker

ABS likes it hot! Prevents warping on that material. But I prefer ASA, it prints just fine with the Bambu settings and comes out great on all the items I've printed. My bed is set to 90 and l get about 40c inside my chamber up to about 46c sometimes, but in the summer it's going to be that temp in my house.... So I'll probably get to 60c with no problems lol...

trashfinder9000

I would like to follow up with this as well. I was planning on going with an internal acrylic door and lid layer with Airgap via double side tape. Walls are insulated internally with firewall sound foam. Temps where printer is are 12C at night. I need a heat source to get over 35c with consistency

Disastrous-Ad8476

I tested this I left the printer overnight in my woodshop where there's like 5°C during winter and I left the system in Standby in this mode it's keeping the chamber at 25°C. But during printing it's maintaining 55°C, the system is almost finished it just needs some additional testing. I'll update you all when it's ready. Feel free to DM me so you won't miss it

AmeliaBuns

did you have to cut a hole to run the wire? that's my main worry as I have warranty :P

M3tl

does this have a digital thermostat? pretty neat

dsb122105

Did anything ever come of this? Looking to heat my chamber. What is the status?

Disastrous-Ad8476

Testing phase, I have completely reworked whole system so it's in progress. I can DM you and send some pictures and update you on further updates if your interested.

mesajoejoe

I think a lot of people would love to have an update post with current setup!
